The New Bridge environment (residential treatment facility, & extended satellite sober living environment), are safe and clean, and provide the type of space where I was able to successfully focus on, addiction & mental health curriculums, group therapy, as well as personalized "one-on-one" therapy/counseling sessions. Additionally, the treatment facility environment is supportive of "peer-to-peer" feed back & coping skills, "focus" and "affirmation tools".., all (to which I found) have great value in early recovery...! What I enjoyed most about New Bridge is the dignified and professional way each staff member treated me, and treated me as valued (from the newest staff member, to the kitchen staff, to nurse staff, maintenance staff, the on-site doctors, to group staff, the clinical coordinator staff, the assistant director, up to the director). These staff members, all, display a "real human" level of authenticity and care...! I'm truly happy that I chose New Bridge..!!! The first time I came here, I was 12 years old. I was very scared but the staff were really nice and supportive. The program is really helpful, I'd recommend this place to any child who is struggling with mental health. They also have a program to treat ED's. I've been to the 3 East B adolscent psych unit multiple times, so I'm very familiar with everyone. The therapist Emilio, Megan, and Susanna were so nice to me, and a nurse named Chris. I spent 2 of my birthdays here, my 13th and my 14th. They made it a fun time even if we were in a hospital:) The patients I've been with were always really nice. Every employee I've interacted with are nothing but nice, professional, due diligence, and ensure proper care of their clients/patients. As a medical professional myself, it is obvious that everyone involved at this clinic work as a team and communicate as efficiently as possible with the patient load that they must have. From security, to front desk admin, and every single PT. Truly, this clinic feels like fam. I want to give a huge shoutout to Colin, James and Carolyn. They really fast tracked my recovery from a broken wrist + surgery, injured shoulder, tight hip flexors, low back + oblique pain and more from all the riff raff my body has encountered from numerous car/bike accidents, sports injuries and more. It is true...getting scheduled in the beginning was challenging to get a call back and get on the schedule... but once you're in... you're in. Plus they now have a separate phone number / line for scheduling (I think?). From the bottom of my heart, thank you again everyone that has been apart of my healing journey from all the injuries I experienced in such a short amount of time. Going to a detox and a rehab is so hard scary and you are riddled with shame when I was at Heartwood and I finally was able to get the strength to eat, the first person that shared kindness, no judgment, no disrespect, and no shame was the Chef at Heartwood Novato. I don’t remember what his name is, but what I do remember is how he made me feel. I have been at rehab before and this time it was very different and I have been sober since this Chef has brown hair, kind eyes, and he would talk to me, and I saw him talk to all the clients and listen to them and hear their stories and make them feel so good about who they are as a human being not about the things that they have done. And I think this person really deserves to be lifted and raised up to the highest because that’s what he gave to me into the other clients that I got to see while I was there. I really think it’s important to recognize those that help light up our souls because that’s what we need in this world and so this recognition is to the Chef at Heartwood Novato to thank this person for lighting up my soul when it felt so dark, and it felt so judged, and it was riddled with shame it was you that fed me and it was you that helps me feel more human than anyone else has ever made me feel. Having her as my counselor and having this particular Doctor has helped me get my life back and my children back. Several months ago, my brother was in a very dangerous place in his life. It got to the point where we feared for his life on a weekly basis and knew we had to do something urgently. Our family staged an intervention and successfully got my brother to agree to inpatient treatment. After extensive research, I found that Reflections was our best option, and I believe choosing Reflections is a decision that may have saved his life. From the very first phone call I had with program director Olejan, I felt a level of genuine care, intelligence, nuance, and humanity that Olejan brought to our conversations. He wasn't trying to sell us the program or anything like that. We had heart-to-heart conversations that made me feel like Reflections would be our partner in my brother's recovery. I felt confident in the credentialed clinical team they have there with Dr. Hanna, and reassured that the level of care my brother would receive would be top-notch, with more one-to-one therapeutic care than what most inpatient treatment centers could offer in Los Angeles. My brother's main therapist at Reflections was Stewart Bryant, and they formed an amazing relationship that my brother cherished during his stay. Week by week I would check in with my brother while he was at Reflections, and just hearing him progressively become more clear-headed, alert, deeply reflecting, emotionally available and vulnerable and willing to speak about everything, working through foundational issues in his life, being more optimistic and committed to his sobriety - it was so profoundly encouraging to see the signs of his work at Reflections really taking root. For intake, meaning you're staying for detox which is 5 days or staying 90 days you'll need to go through intake. Show up at 8:30am. Trust me you'll save yourself hours and getting from intake to your bed can take the whole day so showing up early is important. There are 2 mandatory classes you have to attend not to be kicked out. One in the morning and one in the evening Set alarms on your phone for everything. Eating, pills, classes and snack time. Never disrespect your instructor. If he has his way of doing things then follow it even if your way is better. Many of them came from where you are a few years prior so they have no problem getting ghetto with you for not following the rules. Buy your own pillow and blanket. If you're in detox you'll need 3 blankets and still cold. I wore my jacket to bed. Utalize the therapists that are there for you. You need to sign up for this individually. Nobody is going to tell you. If you need a license or ID from DMV get a voucher from your councilor. Every package you get will be inspected. For snacks I recommend ordering from Amazon. Then when the snacks show up you need to play dumb. Make up an excuse like this was sent to me. It's ok. Store the snacks in your personal bin. Then when the guy who's working is cool go say you need your bin. Then load up your snacks in your bag then bring them upstairs. Snacks! I recommend hiding these from staff room searches. You can vape weed. You'll have to sneak it in but I highly recommend it. There are giant windows always open in your room and bathroom. Go to the bathroom unless your roommates are cool otherwise vape from your bed. Hide your stash. People steal Get a tripod for your cellphone so you can watch TV or movies Bring a large coffee or insulated mug larger than 20 ozs. You're going to need it. You need minimal clothes. Clothes are washed every day and delivered to you. Bring smokes and some lighters even if you don't smoke. Menthol a plus You'll have a lot of time to work out your life. Great group of people and I like this clinic because of them and the medication isn't watered down! At the same time though, people can see a physician here for a physical check up. Truly appreciate their professionalism from the personnel returning phone calls when people leave them messages, to the personnel being able to give patients their diagnostic. It’s also really beautiful and peaceful here, which has helped a lot during this process. The group therapy sessions are very intimate, and the people in group are genuinely non-judgmental. I work with Kristine, who has been amazing. Just graduated IOP and i feel confident with getting out there and working on my sobriety personally. Dr. Smeester (“Dan”) is great. He has a very warm and gentle presence, and it’s clear that he really cares about helping people who are struggling with addiction. He doesn’t judge. he listens carefully and accommodates any extra need you need. I had a great experience, and learned a lot. They provide aftercare for all graduates no matter when they graduated. I personally continue to attend aftercare every Wednesday, free of charge.
