09/11 My wife was bitten by a copperhead snake and was taken to the ER at Inova Fairfax. The ER team and ward staff provided excellent care. The doctor took special care with her case, as this isn’t common, and made sure she had serious follow-up and observation. We felt very well taken care of throughout the entire process.

Seems like everyone here, from crossing guards and valets to nurses and surgeons, is on the same page and focused on trying to make the experience smooth for patients. Super well organized and we got helpful automated texts while waiting on someone in surgery. Im kind of shocked to see this place not near 5 stars for everyone. Ive been to some BAD hospitals. This place is top notch.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to the mental health treatment. Their inpatient treatment provides a safe environment for residents to recover. The staff include psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, counselors, and case managers. Additionally, ECT is provided on a case by case basis.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don't require 24-hour care. It is a more intensive short-term treatment than outpatient programs. Clients attend from 9 am to 4 pm daily to the campus.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The detoxification treatment length of stay varies depending on the individual needs. The treatment also include medication management, individual counseling, family counseling and aftercare planning.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enroll in drug rehab in Virginia, a treatment plan is designed by professional staff in order to help you overcome drug addiction and modify addictive behaviors. This may include evidence-based treatments, group and individual therapy, and relapse prevention.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

This institution is unimaginably horrible. Their oncology Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) is in disarray at best and non-existent at worst. Thus, If you have cancer and intend to survive, please do yourself a huge favor and run to a different institution.

Would have given more stars because most of the doctors, nurses and staff are nice, But in ICU, there is a black woman nurse named Rosalyn who work on night shift on 9/8, Rosalyn had a don’t care attitude, was rude to me and my mom who drove 3.5 hours to visit my extreme sick dad. My dad was placed on hospice, and this was the last day my dad was able to speak to us. Rosalyn had the security guard come in yelling like he was in a court room to escort my mom out the room, which we were very quiet, and people need a dose of reality how to treat people who are going through such a hard time, don’t need the attitudes. My dad was afraid to go to sleep in fear that he would pass. So he didn’t sleep, he held my hands tight, and didn’t want me to leave. I was really hurt about this situation but i had to leave, and I left and came back now my dad doesn’t talk anymore. He can only sleep through this hospice. Talk about a broken heart, my dad is my everything.

My experience at Inova Fairfax was interesting. First the surgeon that worked on me was great. My problem came from the hospital and some nurses. I have an advanced directive that apparently the hospital does not like. It is a DNR. We explained this when we came into the ER. However, they had me listed as full code. My wife brought my Advanced directive in they scanned it and yet right before I asked and I had been changed to full code. I would not allow them to do surgery until they changed it. I was listed as DNR finally or at least for a day. I heard nurses make comments about the DNR sign. Then they changed my room and I was back to full code again. This is unacceptable and a direct violation of a patient's rights. Fortunately I did not have any complications but had I would have sued the hospital for everything I could get. They better get to a point where they may not agree with the patient but it is the patients right to choose what happens to them.

I was recently a patient here, and overall I received excellent care. And that was mostly because of the nurses who were awesome. The techs were also solidly good, and the doctors decent to good. And of course, they really helped save my life, treating some potentially fatal conditions, and discovering more! I will say that it was definitely confusing having different main treating doctors- some continuity of care would have been nice. The doctors did have a bit of narcisse going on, they didn't spend much time with me, and barely even touched me. But I think overall their knowledge and competence was on point, and they gave me good enough. The nurses, did give me a good amount of their time, and were kind /compassionate and nonjudgmental. I was always so impressed about their knowledge base about the different medical things. I definitely think they were good advocates for me, and they really just took such good care of me. The techs were also solid assistant s, and I thought it was very impressive how they could take blood and do IV lines. I definitely did not expect such excellent care. The main reason I'm giving four stars instead of five stars, is because the wound specialist was totally arrogant and didn't give me the care I needed because of her personal sensitivity. And also the whole discharge was botched. They should have been talking to me about discharge from day one, I was there for about a week and a half, instead everything was rushed at the end. The case manager really didn't have the time of day for me, and really did not communicate with me or my mom when we needed her to. I really wasn't explained, or given the time to know what my options were. And then the whole transition from hospital to home was just so overwhelming. INOVA needs better transitional services in place for their patients. But, all in all, I would confidently recommend this hospital to anyone in need.
