My father was stuck in the orthopedic unit of this terrible hospital this past week. No one came to check on him for hours after his spine surgery. Some grey haired woman (administrator I think) was just sitting in her office glaring at me when I asked for help with his IV and again when he needed assistance using the bathroom. The night staff was much more attentive. Really hope he never has to come back here again.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to the mental health treatment. Their inpatient treatment provides a safe environment for residents to recover. The staff include psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, counselors, and case managers. Additionally, ECT is provided on a case by case basis.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don't require 24-hour care. It is a more intensive short-term treatment than outpatient programs. Clients attend from 9 am to 4 pm daily to the campus.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The detoxification treatment length of stay varies depending on the individual needs. The treatment also include medication management, individual counseling, family counseling and aftercare planning.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enroll in drug rehab in Virginia, a treatment plan is designed by professional staff in order to help you overcome drug addiction and modify addictive behaviors. This may include evidence-based treatments, group and individual therapy, and relapse prevention.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Great hospital and ER. However, one of the worst and most inconsiderate nurses I’ve ever met is Zoe B. She doesn’t care when patients are at their worst, when family wants to visit. It’s sad. Whether it’s policy or not, this was disgusting behavior.

My criticism is primarily focused on the hospital's DISCHARGE INSTRUCTIONS -- deficient, one size fits all.  It was ill-fitting for me because I had an unusual situation where I had an emergency followup surgery that happened during recovery2 phase: TWO surgeries back to back, with general anesthesia administration x 2. The Discharge instructions should have taken that into careful consideration and prescribed oxycodone every 4 hours (what the nurse told me verbally), not 8 hours.  In other words, not enough pain medicine was prescribed.  When it ran out, I was still in pain for days on end.  When I called my doctor's office, the triage nurse wouldn't give me a refill. Next, to avoid constipation, the hospital discharge paper instructs to "eat more high-fiber foods."  Well, on day four after the surgery, I am still having these horrible gas pains because of all the medication, but I did venture to eat some oatmeal on day 4, and boy did that make the gas problem worse!  When I called  the doctor's office and complained about the wrong hospital instructions, I was told to gradually increase the fiber.  If eating oatmeal (isn't that everyone's ho-hum diet?) not gradual enough, imagine what would have happened if from day one I followed the hospital's instructions and started eating veggies! And finally, the discharge instructions gave NO HEADSUP about large swathes of  bruises that appeared on both of my upper thighs, a few days after the laparoscopy ( I had bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy).  In fear & shock when I contacted the triage nurse, she explained it sometimes happens, and will eventually disappear. The Hospital needs to treat each patient's discharge care the same as a VIP, or the president of the United States!!  Not just a $$$$$ case number:  after all we are paying the executives' handsome compensations,  footing the hospital bills, and every uninsured person that walks into ER that can't afford to pay.  I gave an extra star because the doctors were excellent.

"I gotta say, Inova Fairfax has been amazing to me for years. A few months back, I had a scary situation with an aortic dissection, and Dr. Endicott and the whole team jumped into action. They literally saved my life. Every single person I’ve met there, from the surgeons to the support staff, has been super caring and made me feel at home. I'm beyond grateful for the top-notch care I got. Thanks, Inova, for everything." Robert A. @ardancreates

Issac Weintraub (patient dining associate) definitely is impressive. I have been in the care of this hospital for a few weeks and if it wasn’t for his presentation and professionalism I don’t think I would be too excited about eating hospital food. Don’t get me wrong… all dishes aren’t really bad but this is not home cooked or a 5 star restaurant either! Lol , one thing for sure, he’ll make you feel like it is! Issac understood the assignment💯

I called for help to be better situation in the bed, being pulled back. A petite black women put the entire bed all the way down and my neck hurts.. she is rude and needs to go back to school to brush up on her bedside manner. Patients are at the mercy of caregivers and she is very much needs help. Anthony the nurse on duty and the tech Wasif have been great and always come to help me. This woman needs to be held accountable for the way she treated me.today at 6am I hit the call button asking to be moved to the chair. I was told I had to at a high level for my vitals to be taken.. it 7:32 and I’m still in bed with a sore neck. The also say that shifts are changing. I am in the professional bldg rm 232. Staff need to retake customer care and how to treat patients. I was in the same hospital in Sept. and got the same treatment. SAD

Dr.Sahar Q Khan was absolutely, rude terrible and kind!! I was there from 7pm-4 am asking her to figure out what was wrong with me and she said she has other patients! And she is very busy! I went in with severe fatigue and passing out several times including when she was in the room and my sister had constantly ask her for additional tests! After spending almost 18 hours there she never gave us an answer to why my BP was incredibly low and why was keep fainting so I finally had to ask for discharge and going home! Waste of money and time!! She doesn’t know what test to order nor does she care!! She shouldn’t be in position she is!!

My stay in the Women’s Center was nothing short of spectacular. Ashley, Aisha, Libby, Cherita, Ciara, and Fairey- -As well as John in X-ray and Marlon the transport— everyone was absolutely amazing. Coming from a medical background , I am Verry picky. The attention to detail and compassion was superb. And yes okay, even the doctors I met were great too. Six stars or more. Give these ladies some recognition! They are superstars and this is their calling. I feel very lucky to have met them.
