About Behavioral Health Inpatient Services

Spectrum Health Lakeland, which is located in Saint Joseph, Michigan, is a really unique clinic in regards to the services they provide for the community. They can help you whether you need support with substance use disorders or mental health disorders. They can accomplish this with holistic and personal care.

Christian Faith Based Mental Health Support

Something that I found interesting right off the bat is that they collaborate with Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services. This allows for some interesting additions to their treatment such as psychiatric consultations and medication management. This is more geared toward individuals who need ongoing care or even medication after they’ve already been stabilized.

Unlike many other clinics, they have inpatient behavioral health services here. If you’re in an urgent crisis, you can get helped quickly and effectively. Inpatient care can be helpful if you need round the clock care.

Specialized Care for New Moms

Even those with postpartum depression can find support, which I think is a pleasantly unique service and extremely important in the community. The specific focus is on maternal mental health for new mothers.

They even have cancer support services, another unique offering, and provide psychosocial support for cancer patients. This may include counseling and emotional support for those people navigating that difficult situation.

Their Michigan Child Collaborative Care provides specialized care for children with behavioral health concerns.

Last, but certainly not least, they offer outpatient counseling for individuals, families and couples dealing with co-occurring conditions and issues like trauma, anxiety and depression.

There isn't enough space to tell my account. Avoid at all costs like your life depends on it. Because it does. Not a healing environment. Went in for suicidal ideations came out with an even stronger sense of doubt in the world. Pine rest is cool

My daughter Brianna Sherwood went there and came back traumatized. They were not understanding with her condition and shot her up with meds and didn't even tell her what they were giving. Got ignored by multiple nurses on shift when she needed someone to talk to her and calm her down. She was excluded from every "group" therapy except for arts and crafts. The first time she went in she tried to kill herself and they made her feel like she was in trouble. They should add more things like group counseling and other things like the sycamore springs hospital in Lafayette Indiana

If you do not enter this place insane, you will be made insane within a week. Absolute garbage and childish, you will be treated like a prisoner. Drive to a better place.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Michigan is essential for certain phases of recovery treatment. During detox, many physical ailments related to the detox process can be lethal if not treated. Having medical staff available at all times provides the proper care for safe detox. Medications and other treatment can also make the process much more comfortable and bearable.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Michigan helps participants view challenges more clearly so they can respond to them in healthy ways. During a limited number of structured sessions, clients learn about and practice these changes to effectively address substance use and mental health disorders.

Addiction often involves intense situations and emotions. Dialectical behavior therapy helps you understand and regulate your emotions and better manage the situations that evoke those feelings. You'll receive mindfulness training and stress management training to cope more effectively with difficult emotions.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Family therapy is often recommended for family units with a member undergoing drug or alcohol rehabilitation. Family therapy helps to foster communication and conflict resolution that creates a supportive environment. This helps the loved one who is struggling with addiction.

Dr. Ericson took my brother-in-law off of Klonipin without titration. He was not admitted for drug or alcohol abuse. I find his actions reckless and irresponsible.

Dealing with this hospital felt like I was living in one of those psychological horror films. My girlfriend who has lived a very hard life, struggles with some mental health disorders understandably, and was admitted to this hospital after suffering a mild mental break at her college dorm. The staff did everything your not supposed to do with someone who suffers with mental health disorders and gets scared easily. They forced medications on her, wouldn't tell her what they were or how they worked and refused to give her the medications she was already on and had been prescribed by her psychiatrist which made her freak out even more. The staff are cold, callous and uncaring. I was not allowed to visit her or see her once they moved her to the ward but I was told I could call and make an appt for visitation. I was given several numbers to call to set up a visit however every single number I called never picked up. I left countless callback messages over the entire week she was in there and not once did I get a call back. After being in there for several days they finally allowed my girlfriend to call me for a whopping 10 minutes before ripping the phone out of her hands. They allow med students to practice on mental patients against their will and my girlfriend came out of the ward with a horribly bruised and butchered arm from a med student practicing blood draws. Patients here are not allowed any outside time. Even prisons require inmates have outdoor time. They kept pushing her release date back time and time again probably trying to milk her insurance for money. It was only after she acquired an attorney that they started getting serious about releasing her. On a side note this hospital has its own police force. I personally talked to one of the officers and he said they go to the same academy and are trained the same as regular cops. If the police want to protect the hospital from outside threats that's one thing but these officers are being used in the psyche ward to deal with the mental patients. This is absolutely unacceptable! Street cops and mental patients are not a good or professional mix whatsoever! Stay away from this place at all costs! They will treat your family members like prisoners and punish them for having mental health disorders. I would sue if I had the money!

These doctors practice very unsafe medical practices. They cut you off your psych meds cold turkey and don’t have a lot of them in stock so they give you something else. This is dangerous medical practice. In addition, I was also unable to receive several of my other meds for other conditions for most of my stay. I came out traumatized. I would sue if I had the money.

Do NOT go here! please go to reputable Chicago hospital. They do not respect the family with dignity and have violated many of the the Michigan Mental Health State Laws with our loved one. We have asked for our loved one to be transferred to Chicago psych ward with amazing reputation and have it all set up and this is done all the time in mental health hospital industry and they do NOT RESPOND to our professional and polite emails, phone calls. They lost our loved one and the only way we found out he escaped under their care and watch, is the Sheriff of county called me and as he was found thanks to sheriff more then 7 hours later but he could have been injured or killed under their care. No advocate that is neutral to make sure his rights are not being violated. Due to fact he is over 18 we are in nightmare as they told us they will not tell our loving family what day or time when he is discharged and social worker told me that if he doesn't give a name that the hospital sends our mentally ill teen to a shelter!! Our loving family are being treated like criminals when they are the ones violating our loved ones rights and we are following up with lawyers and regulatory commisions in the state and governor of Michigan. I'm trying to save another family from going through nightmare of non compassionate experience we are going through. DO NOT GO HERE!! please help us!

Called up to see if I could speak to my mom and they receptionist rudely reminded me of the patients confidentiality and hung up. I tried calling back to find out what I can do to be able to speak with my mother and they wouldn't pick up the phone. As soon as I can get the very rude receptionist name ill post it. This is crazy.
