NP Kelly Clark has been very helpful with my anxiety. The staff is always doing their best. You can tell they need more people since there's a mental health crisis and not enough workers to help. But I believe they are doing the best they can.

I have multiple surgeries here and two unexpected hospital stays for myself, and I can’t say a bad word about the care from the physicians and the Nurses down to the aides. I don’t really ever wanna go anywhere else. Recently, as in October of this year 2025, my being intelligent enough to know that something was wrong and my doctor getting me in to surgery the next morning saved my life. I had MRSA in my back a month and a half after my surgery and I had bacterial infection in my bloodstream so they took care of me quickly and made sure that the infection was out of my blood before letting me go home. They have always been caring and conscientious and professional, even when dealing with my mother who had dementia before she passed. They would bring in a sitter to sit with her, turn her bed towards the nurses station so she could see them and if necessary sedate her because she could get very very agitated. If she had the kind of care at Neuro behavioral hospital Crown Point, I don’t doubt she would still be alive now. I trust them implicitly, but I verify. you have to be your own advocate, no matter where you’re at.

They "Saved my life" doesn't quite seem like enough. I have tried, and failed, with several other treatment programs. The combination of tough love, science based recovery, medication, and alternative programs was perfect for me. My favorite part is that even though I discharged, I can still come back and hang out. It is my "home base' and I am always made to feel welcome when I come to visit.

Background: Healthcare provider, Male, 29 years old: Making a decision to return to rehab was a hard one at the time. I was scheduled to visit family in the Caribbean but relapsed in the weeks before prior. Three days before vacation I reached out. I knew deep down if I didn't seek help soon I would get caught, or worse, continue hurting the ones I loved, or God forbid harm a patient/face criminal charges. I went to treatment instead of a payed vacation and odd as this sounds, it was the best decision I made. Over a year later I am still clean and sober, happier than I have been in years. Most importantly, I have a relationship with my family and they trust me again. Parkdale not only helped me re-enter the profession of nursing but offered the support and individual counseling I needed to regain confidence and trust in myself. Because of substance abuse, I developed depression/anxiety, which the clinicians helped treat with cognitive and pharmacological therapy.

After completing inpatient rehabilitation, I transitioned into the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Parkdale Center and I can say with my whole heart that it was one of the most life-changing and soul-healing experiences I’ve ever had. Parkdale didn’t just help me continue my recovery, they helped me to continue to find myself again. They believed in me, held space for my pain, and gave me the tools and encouragement to continue to rise stronger than I ever thought possible. From the leadership to the support staff, everyone at Parkdale exudes compassion, professionalism, and a deep commitment to healing. But what makes Parkdale truly exceptional are people like Rigo and Claudia. They treated me not like a number or a case, but like family. There was zero judgment, only humility, kindness, and an unwavering belief in my potential. Rigo felt like a steady big brother, firm when needed, but always full of heart. Claudia radiates warmth and made me feel safe, seen, and cared for in a way that felt almost sacred. These two, and so many others at Parkdale (like Dr. Chris, Denise, Ty, David) restored my faith in people and reminded me that recovery is possible when you’re surrounded by those who genuinely care. Parkdale is the best at what they do because they combine clinical excellence with human connection. Their program isn’t just about sobriety, it’s about rebuilding your life with dignity, strength, and purpose. If someone I love ever needed help, Parkdale is the place I would trust. Pictured: Claudia (COO). Took time out of her busy schedule to chat with me and learn about the quality of my care.

Better Life MD is an outpatient opioid use clinic that features medication assisted treatment (MAT). An overwhelmingly positive outpouring of feedback from past clients speaks volumes about their exceptional care. So many heartfelt stories of transformation and recovery, all thanks to the compassionate support of the staff. This commitment to the h
It all started YEARS ago when I sent an email to Better Life, desperately searching for a provider to get me in right away. It was a Friday. I was refused to be seen at my then current provider for being 15 mins late. I had just had a C Section. I wasn’t even cleared to drive yet. They were so overbooked they refused to squeeze me in. I said, it’s Friday! I won’t be able to get my meds until Monday! They told me, sorry, we can’t help you— and offered to give me “comfort” meds in the form of Imodium. Which we all know is a joke. & they also informed me it would be 2 weeks til my next appointment. NOT Monday. They played with my sobriety as having to go that long without your medication can be devastating to your recovery. Like a true Angel from above, Dr O called me into his office AFTER HOURS ON A FRIDAY and got me my medication RIGHT AWAY. I thought there was no way he’d see my email before the weekend. I had googled other doctors and locations in my area and came across Better Life and his email and though it felt hopeless, I emailed him. Not only did he see it, and quickly, but he took time to get me in when his office was supposed to be closed! I was able to leave his office as a new patient and go get my meds! He saved my sobriety that day and I’m forever grateful to him for that! It is something I will NEVER forget! I was his patient for a few years (and he IS as fabulous as these reviews say) until he got some help on board, NP Laura! Laura is incredible! She has gone above and beyond for me on more than one occasion. Talking with her is like talking to a friend and I look forward to seeing her. She IS a friend, in my eyes. One of the most compassionate addiction specialists in NWI, next to Dr O. This office and everyone in it are in a league of their own and I will NEVER see another doctor! They’re stuck with me for good! If you want to find a place that truly cares and will do whatever they can to help you stay sober… give this place a try. Just don’t all of you come at once HAHA (I joke) BUT one of the best things about this place is the fact that they are not too overloaded with patients. Often times a good place will go downhill when they take on too many people bc the quality of care goes down. This place does NOT overbook and I’m entirely grateful for that. & if they do, heck I don’t ever notice!! My care is never compromised! My appointments are never a headache! Running a few minutes behind will never put me in a bad spot again and as a mother of 5, that alone is priceless because being late happens sometimes! This is the best Addiction Treatment Center in all of NWI with the best people on board. Throughout my sobriety journey (now 10 years) I’ve been to MANY locations. All with the same self serving goals, judgement, and lack of compassion. You will never run into that problem here. You will always be treated like a human being and not like an addict. That alone is worth more than money can buy. Thank you Laura, Dr O, and all the amazing ladies up front that help me every visit! You are ALL rockstars! & angels! 😇

I made my main review at the Portage location if ya need advice on who to see. But wanted to shout out Micah the psychiatrist who works at this location. I’m a force to be reckon with to put it nicely but he passed the test most don’t for me. I came from having a psychiatrist who knew me for years to having to switch to Micah so I already wasn’t thrilled about it because I get the ick to easily from people. But he has been a breathe of fresh air honestly. He truly listens, not just listens to give a reply and answer, but he understands and comprehends it and that’s important. Especially a gem of a person after having to deal with me at an appointment when I’m in a manic episode cause if you know about those BPD manic episodes then you know how intense you can be. He may have had a lil fear in his eyes seeing me in that moment but he dealt with it with such care and understanding and respect even in the hardest moments. If you get lucky enough to have Micah as your psychiatrist, ask him about the large picture he has framed in his office, he’s got some pretty cool stories to tell that are guaranteed to make ya giggle.

I have been a patient here for some time . Regardless of what some may think , this facility is currently saving the lives of almost 400 people . If you don't see the desired results you want it is most definitely the patients fault. The clinic is more than accommodating for all types of people and disabilities. Most of the staff is very professional and understands that although required daily visits can be hard to manage and difficult to tie in with a job , it is required by law and really do try to accommodate you. Regina runs the show there and is not only trust worthy but very good about having your back when it counts . Diane is also a cut above the rest and very much shows how much she cares for her clients . I'm not one of hers and she treats me like I'm just as important as her patients. If your serious about not being physically ill when you can't get heroin or whatever opioids you take them new seasons can definitely help you get back on track . I'd be dead without them .

I have been coming to semoran new seasons treatment center for over 6 years and never in any of those 6 years have I ever have my HIPAA violated or have been treated like the staff is better than me, until today. Diane, someone who is supposed to be a 'trusted' counselor, is someone who instead is a power hungry and unsympathetic human. As I'm being called to the window she tried to block me from going to dose and also made some ignorant comments, then went on to tell my counselor to CONTROL HER PATIENTS! Basically because I didn't let her bully me like she does every one else...oh and Diane didn't like that. Even after knowing what a disgusting person she really is after hearing how she talks to and about people, as I am sitting outside where the group was going on (literally before this had even happened) but after I saw how she acted towards me in a hallway full of people, oh and tried to deny my dose. Like what a miserable human. She obviously doesn't like when people stick up for themselves. She was just dragging addicts in that group and it was nauseating. Even after all this happened in the hallway and patients from that group are saying how this counselor acts like she is better than the patients. I sure don't want anyone or anything like that around me and my sobriety! Being in that type of position and treating people in recovery like that is disgusting and you should be ashamed of yourself, Diane. Literally the ONLY negative thing I have to say about Semoran. Like I said i have been in the program since August 2019 and I have had a very positive experience with everyone else. Regina is so kind and supportive but also very no nonsense. Michelle, the nurse practitioner has a heart of gold and the best sense of humor, she will always have a smile on her face. Dawn is my counselor and she's amazing, she has worked very hard with me and I have came so far in my recovery. I can always depend on her to be honest with me. Steve, you aren't my counselor but you have helped me through a lot too and i am very grateful for you. This program was the best thing that has ever happened to me. You have to be ready to commit yourself to sobriety and really be done for it to truly work for you. And there are some wonderful counselors to help you. Bruce, Makeba, Vic, just to name a few. Even negative things you can try to take away and make something positive from it. This may have started off as sounding like a negative review, but you can't let one rotten apple ruin the bunch. 🙏🏻

A much better experience than the other options I've contacted for mental health. Porter Stark, the doctor immediately told me he couldn't help me and came off as very judgmental and North Shore was a joke. The doctor I met with for the first time with today was the complete opposite. Compassionate and actually listened to me without being condescending. Not sure yet that they'll be able to help me but I'm just grateful to find a single local psychiatrist that speaks to people like a human being.

I went here when i was 13. I am 24 now. I met some great people who had their issues but deep down they helped me grow into who i am now, they taught me very good skills that i still use today like DEARMAN. They let us get school work done and have fun in gym class. They were wonderful with issues and adressed them appropriately. I am so happy to finally leave a good review after all these years. This wasnt the place i wanted to be when i was 13 cutting myself being suicidal, but they helped me grow into who i am today, i was only there for a month because of insurance reasons. But they had great ling term care. My only complaint is that they could upgrade the food and milk, the milk tended to be spoiled most days back then, but it may be completely different now, i wish the staff and everyone who knew me the best of luck

This program is extremely adaptable, it is up to the residents to help create the environment they need to grow in. I was at SSA for nearly four months, and there I (as well as my family) have learned absolutely the most therapeutically there compared to anywhere else. Any other 1:1 therapist, any other group therapy, inpatient, IOP, rehab, anything. This program fully immerses you inside of a place of DBT and support. There are 100% difficult times here, as there are anywhere, and at the same time, there are constantly tools provided to assist with these times. You hear horror stories of residentials locking adolescents in their rooms, starving them, refusing to engage or provide helpful tools to them, restraining unnecessarily, using them to clean/as tools etc- but this is NOT one of those places. This place is SAFE. This means the necessities. AND THEN THEY HAVE MORE. Like I said, this program is very adaptable. Every group of adolescents that comes in has a say in the adjustment of the growing experience here. This ranges from just voicing your opinion in general, to leveling up and becoming a member of what they call resident council. Resident council makes changes to how the floor is run with the staff and helps teach the skills. This was something I commonly did. I made changes on the unit for my group, I lead informational groups and games all the time. There are resident lead groups, BHW groups, therapy groups, nursing groups, pet and equine therapy- and more. Here you are allowed to have fun, to engage and live and progress, but this means working the program. You can't hide things here, fake your way through, stay blunted. You will not have a good experience here if you can't work the program. And that will be part of it for a lot of people, having to go here to learn HOW TO open themselves up and be part of the program. It does take time to regulate to it, but being willing is important. At some point. A lot of these other reviews are pulling the negatives from the positives. This is likely the safest place in a several state radius for any adolescent. There are caring staff here, someone your child WILL click with and find as their safe person, and it will be okay for them. It has been extremely helpful and educational for me, and my family. Brendon, the shift coordinator for the South Shore unit, is extremely well educated and skillful. He's been working in mental health for 10+ years. He is trained very thoroughly in DBT- and more areas of therapy. Everyone that comes here will always remember him, there's no doubt about that. He leaves an educational mark on just about anyone. He will consistently lead BHW groups, teaching residents and even staff about useful DBT skills, takes residents to equine therapy, he leads the resident council activities, and more. I frequently call back onto the unit floor and talk to him, as well as other staff members. They are consistently there for old and new residents. Cloe Carda, a therapist here, is THE MOST wise, well-spoken, helpful, skillful, and caring person I have met. She has been solely the most supportive person there to me and many others. She is always willing to take on every situation she is faced with, and she is more than prepared to do so. I've never been more impressed with any mental health professional. I actually miss her each day, and I'm more than thankful I met her and the Midwest team.

This place turned my life around although some people were there using it as a shelter what they were doing was none of my business at that time because the focus was on me. My wife Kelly Smith is coming to Gateway, the Taylor Street location, within a week or so I hope this is a good place for her. Some questions I have if anyone is kind enough to please answer them for me: 1. Can she bring in a vape pen? (Tobacco) 2. How do phone calls go? 3. How does visiting go? If I don’t have an ID, can I be denied entry? 4. Any helpful advice you have for me to help her adjust when she gets back home? 5. Any tips/ insider info you could give me to tell her to help her stay be more comfortable?! 6. What’s one thing you wish you brought to treatment but forgot? Anything you suggest to bring?? 7. In terms of female counselors, is there one who stands out as the best? Thanks you guys!!! Appreciate all the help and advice and if you see my lil girl Kelly in there be nice! LMAO😅😅😅👍

I went to gateway rehabilitation and the food was good. But the best part of my experience was my counselor. Virginia Garcia was absolutely fabulous. She went above and beyond her duty for me. She made me feel at ease and answered all my questions. She is lovely and kind. Ty Virginia.

Such a transformative experience! Naturally, the reviews you read for addiction treatment centers are going to skew negative but don't let that deter you if you believe you need help. Not only did I have an amazing experience with staff, I've built a strong foundation of community among my peers who were also seeking treatment. While encouraged by their use of an evidenced-based model, the incorporation of the 12-steps had me skeptical at first but now I'm fully committed. If you feel the 12 steps aren't for you, they also provide information about alternatives such as SMART Recovery and Recovery Dharma. My one complaint would be that I had chosen to participate in the in-person IOP during intake, but was somehow placed into the virtual IOP. Once it was recognized it was a quick fix and it didn't impact my start date or anything like that.

It’s incredibly difficult to capture in a few sentences the positive changes I have experienced in my life due to my time at Positive Sobriety Institute. The saying “you get what you put in” is a very apt one. PSI helped me set a foundation that has changed my life in a way that merely must be witnesses. There’s a reason I only have Just For Today. PSI gave me the toolkit needed to get over the one year hump of being clean from alcohol, drugs, and other terrible things. I am forever in their debt. I only have JFT, may you find this place as well, do the footwork, so that “no addict ever need die from the horrors of addiction”. Thy will be done. cheers.

A breath of fresh air in our very broken health care system. It works if you make it work, you make it a seamless experience. Everyone in the counseling department was so genuine and real, that is very hard to find when you don't have private insurance.

Been going to Family Guidance for awhile now and I absolutely recommend this methadone clinic to anyone struggling with opiate addiction. The staff are mostly friendly and it's easy to get into the clinic within a day or two. Once you get to the correct methadone dose the dope sickness is mostly gone and then you can slowly get back to a normal life. I've had a few counselors since going here and all were nice and professional but my current one Gary is Awesome. He seems to really care and is always helpful. I would most likely be dead if I didn't sign up at Family Guidance. If you're looking for a way to stop using dope give this clinic a try.

I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to this rehab center and its staff. No, it’s not a luxury retreat or a spa-like setting—but neither is prison, or worse, the morgue. This place is about recovery, not comfort, and I believe they are doing exactly what they’re meant to do: helping people get their lives back. The staff was kind, dedicated, and truly cared. My son's father recently completed treatment here, and while he shared that it was incredibly tough—physically, emotionally, and mentally—he also said it was nothing compared to the pain of being out on the streets, lost in his addiction. Recovery isn’t supposed to be easy. If it were, addiction wouldn’t be so hard to beat. I’ve seen some reviews criticizing the center for not giving constant updates to family members. I get it—when someone we love is in pain, we want answers, we want involvement, we want to help. But part of the healing process means letting go of that need to control. We didn't have control when our loved ones were in active addiction, and recovery is no different. The program is designed to build independence, accountability, and internal strength. Constant calls, questions, and attempts to interfere, even with good intentions, can undermine that. Trust the process. Let the professionals do their job. It’s not always comfortable—but neither is addiction. Discomfort is part of growth, and growth is what this place is all about. If you're looking for somewhere that offers real recovery—not coddling, but healing—this is it. Let them work, and give your loved one the space to fight for their own life.

I, like all, was at ICFR at the worst time of my life. I had several doctor appts that I needed to make when I went in. The travel was accommodated for me to be able to be taken to so I didn't miss them and that was one of my biggest concerns.
