About Serenity at Summit New England

This expansive facility offers a tranquil setting where you can comfortably and privately begin your recovery journey without distractions. Their location offers convenient access to major highways for residents of Massachusetts and the surrounding areas. They boast spacious, well appointed rooms with options for private accommodations. Residents have access to recreational areas, fitness centers and chef prepared meals. There are also outdoor walking trails, exercise classes and art and crafts. These are useful for recreational therapy which fosters mental awareness and overall wellbeing.

Their interdisciplinary clinical team comprises experts in behavioral health and addiction recovery. This encompasses licensed counselors, therapists, physicians and nurses. These compassionate professionals are committed to helping you overcome addiction through quality and individualized treatment. Depending on your unique condition you may begin your recovery with medical detox after assessment and individualized treatment planning.

Medical detox cleanses addiction-related toxins from your body and lays the foundation for further treatment. It involves a tailored and carefully executed withdrawal procedure with 24/7 supervision by their trained physicians. These experts may employ medication assisted treatment (MAT) when necessary to manage severe withdrawal symptoms and curb cravings. This ensures that your detoxing is safe and comfortable.

Following detox you can continue your recovery journey via their clinical stabilization. This involves intense therapeutic intervention with round the clock support from their dedicated team of professionals. They offer clinically proven therapeutic models like cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and trauma informed care. This may be delivered in group or individual formats to help you address negative emotions fueling your behavioral challenges. Emphasis is on developing sound coping mechanisms, preventing relapse and staying sober.

You’ll learn essential life skills like anger/stress management, effective communication and relationship building which facilitate lasting sobriety. You’ll also participate in whole person activities like yoga, meditation and nutritional counseling as well as alternative therapy like acupuncture and reiki. These wellness programs help you develop healthy habits and address the physical, spiritual and emotional aspects of addiction. Their dual diagnosis treatment also includes medication management and dialectical behavior therapy which fosters emotional regulation.

Upon graduating from inpatient care you can step down to either their intensive outpatient program or partial hospitalization program (PHP). Both programs offer ongoing support while allowing you to maintain daily responsibilities. Their intensive therapy involves up to nine hours of group sessions weekly. Sessions are designed to accommodate your work or academic schedule. This makes it ideal if you seek flexibility and convenience.

Partial hospitalization is more structured and involves more intensive care. You’ll attend up to 20 hours of therapy sessions weekly. This is great if you need more support or therapeutic interventions but not 24/7 supervision. You’ll receive treatment in the day and return home in the evening. Both programs involve continued therapeutic progress in group and individual formats as well as peer support. They also include family education and therapy to improve communication with loved ones and strengthen support systems. Comments from past clients reflect an overwhelmingly positive experience and incredible quality of care.

I ended up at this facility a few years ago, and I finally feel like I’m able to express what went on. I came here fleeing a trafficking situation and struggling with substance abuse. The staff did not treat me like a human being. They mocked me, made patronizing comments, shamed me, they made me feel like I deserved all the trauma I was trying to escape. After 3 days of begging to leave they let me go. Because of this place I do not trust medical professionals or therapists to this day.

Accepted Insurance

Serenity at Summit New England works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient programs are designed for clients who are medically stable and not at an elevated risk of relapse, including those who have already completed inpatient care. Outpatient programs typically advance clients' established treatment plans, offering continuing addiction counseling and recovery education. Clients who enter outpatient care immediately following detox may also receive medical and mental health assessments and personalized treatment plans. Most outpatient rehabs provide multiple levels of care to align with clients' unique needs.

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient rehab offers robust, hands-on care in a highly structured and supportive environment. The facility provides housing, meals, and round-the-clock supervision, allowing clients to focus exclusively on their recovery. Inpatient treatment typically involves intensive addiction counseling based on CBT, DBT, RBT, motivational interviewing, or other psychotherapeutic approaches. Many inpatient treatment centers also offer life skills training and/or complementary therapies, including meditation, mindfulness, and nutrition counseling.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) facilitate clients' sustained sobriety through high-level care aligned with their evolving needs. Clients engage in multiple treatment sessions per week, typically receiving between nine and 20 hours of outpatient care weekly. The frequency and intensity of treatment gradually decreases as clients stabilize. Many intensive outpatient rehabs offer a variety of services, including addiction counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT). Evidence-based complementary therapies are also common.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Rehab aftercare programs offer customized, wraparound support for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery. Many clients enroll in drug rehab immediately after completing intensive inpatient or residential care. Services encompass outpatient treatment but often extend long beyond the completion of a formal recovery program and typically include a variety of medical, mental health, and social service programs. Peer coaching, relapse prevention, 12 step program induction, and related services are commonly available.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

The Serenity at Summit detoxification and recovery services are state of the art, integrating the latest medical, clinical and holistic programming for overall well-being. Here you, or your loved one, can recover in peace and comfort with total privacy and discretion. Their detox program is run by their expert, highly qualified medical, clinical and holistic teams. The staff is on stand-by 24/7 and each individual is guided through the process, every step of the way.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

In Massachusetts, substance abuse treatment programs can help to address addiction and, if relevant, any co-occurring mental health conditions. Programs include outpatient, inpatient, dual-diagnosis, and partial hospitalization. You'll receive therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy, and sometimes complementary therapies like acupuncture and mindfulness-based therapy. By attending skills training and recovery groups you'll build a strong foundation for your recovery and strengthen your support network, increasing your chances of long-term recovery success.

Mental health services are essential during treatment for drug and alcohol addiction, whether you receive treatment in an inpatient or outpatient setting. While receiving inpatient care, you can expect to have round-the-clock access to mental health therapists and medical staff. Additionally, you will likely receive a number of different therapies and mental health options like individual and group counseling, addiction and relapse prevention education, and coping skills training.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples therapy in Massachusetts is a short term therapy designed to equip you both with the skills you need to address conflicts and challenges in your relationship. During sessions, your counselor may meet with you individually and together.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Their program includes a fluid daily schedule, individualized for each of their clients. A personal schedule is planned to integrate overall wellness, with a focus on recovery. Mornings often begin with mindful meditation sessions, check-ins and psycho-educational groups that focus on key areas of recovery and wellness. Afternoons offer individualized counseling sessions, integrative movement, and group sessions. In the evenings, 12-step meetings and a variety of holistic services are offered. Clients will work with their treatment team in planning for their day.

The life skills you'll learn in rehab range from financial management to practicing healthy self care. They help you learn how to solve problems and make decisions, as well as develop healthy interpersonal relationships – all of which are key to successful recovery.

My experience at Serenity has been life changing and just incredible. The love and support I received from the staff during my detox and CSS is just incomparable to anything. Lindsey && Taylor && JJ are exceptional women who work so hard to help you with anything you need and make sure everything outside is in order so you can focus on yourself and your sobriety and it makes such a world of difference. Jonathan, Jessica, Nevaeh, Andrea & Brooke are the sweetest most wonderful humans and offer so much love and support. No matter who you are or what you struggle with the staff at serenity make you feel home. This has been a life altering experience for me I feel so lucky & blessed to have had it. Ashley & Val & work so tirelessly to make sure that you don’t leave here unprepared. The nurses and providers helped me find the medication I needed. And Maria is just a ray of sunshine. I’ll never forget any of the people I met here. <3 The food is phenomenal. The rooms are so cozy. I couldn’t imagine getting well anywhere else <3

I was at Serenity for approximately two days, and this was possibly the worst mental health facility I’ve ever been to. While there are a few nice people there, the majority of the staff don’t even have the decency to pretend to care about patients. They take away patients’ phones in the name of “focusing on recovery,” while simultaneously running some of the worst groups I’ve had the misfortune to witness. Each room has only one TV, and it only plays basic cable. The heat in the building also didn't work, which meant you had to take freezing cold showers. The temperature in the building was consistently either too hot or too cold. In addition, because of the no phone policy, in order to make a simple phone call, you have to submit a request, which then has to be approved by management which could take hours. The place is more akin to a jail than a rehab. Furthermore, The so-called “clinicians” were equally dreadful. One had a bizarre habit of making disgusting comments about farting. The one assigned to me seemed wholly unqualified—after I expressed deep depression to her, she offered no support and instead berated me for my emotions. When I decided to leave, she followed me around reading aloud from a paper she had printed about major depressive disorder, telling me it would only get worse if I left. Later, after I had left I realized the staff member with a farting obsession had stolen my visa gift card. I also found someone had ejaculated on the public toilet seat and no effort was made to clean it up. They don't even let you coordinate a ride before you leave, as they only give you your phone back when you are outside the facility. So you could literally die outside for all they care. Needless to say, once I got out of that place, my mood significantly improved. The positive reviews for this facility are, in my opinion, likely paid for by the owners. If you’re reading this, please don’t waste your time here—go to Hillside in Chestnut Hill instead

If your going there for Drug/Alcohol Rehab then the place is good, but if your going there for mental health I’d stay away. They do not focus on mental health nearly as much as they should. They focus way too much on drug/alcohol rehab. On the other hand the staff there are very friendly, understanding and helpful

This program literally saved my life. The care and support that I got here is second to none. Not only are you getting an education on your disease and your recovery, but you are also getting education on your health, wellness, and how to keep your sobriety. Lindsey, Taylor, and Maria were integral parts of my process. Not only were they my healing gurus, but they supported me with all their words of comfort, words of wisdom, and their loving empathy. The people here have impacted my life forever. I have never felt so loved and so supported as I battle this disease. I am leaving here a new person and am looking forward to my new life of sobriety. I can't thank the staff enough and I thank God that I found them. Thank you to Serenity for giving me the hope for my future life. I look forward to helping others in the same position as me. I love you Serentiy!
