About Serenity at Summit New England

Serenity at Summit New England is a modern residential treatment and recovery facility for substance use disorders in Haverhill, Massachusetts. They also address dual diagnosis disorders. This is when someone simultaneously struggles with addictive behavior and mental conditions. Their treatment options include medical detox, clinical stabilization or inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization and an intensive outpatient program (IOP).

This expansive facility offers a tranquil setting where you can comfortably and privately begin your recovery journey without distractions. Their location offers convenient access to major highways for residents of Massachusetts and the surrounding areas. They boast spacious, well appointed rooms with options for private accommodations. Residents have access to recreational areas, fitness centers and chef prepared meals. There are also outdoor walking trails, exercise classes and art and crafts. These are useful for recreational therapy which fosters mental awareness and overall wellbeing.

Their interdisciplinary clinical team comprises experts in behavioral health and addiction recovery. This encompasses licensed counselors, therapists, physicians and nurses. These compassionate professionals are committed to helping you overcome addiction through quality and individualized treatment. Depending on your unique condition you may begin your recovery with medical detox after assessment and individualized treatment planning.

Medical detox cleanses addiction-related toxins from your body and lays the foundation for further treatment. It involves a tailored and carefully executed withdrawal procedure with 24/7 supervision by their trained physicians. These experts may employ medication assisted treatment (MAT) when necessary to manage severe withdrawal symptoms and curb cravings. This ensures that your detoxing is safe and comfortable.

Following detox you can continue your recovery journey via their clinical stabilization. This involves intense therapeutic intervention with round the clock support from their dedicated team of professionals. They offer clinically proven therapeutic models like cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and trauma informed care. This may be delivered in group or individual formats to help you address negative emotions fueling your behavioral challenges. Emphasis is on developing sound coping mechanisms, preventing relapse and staying sober.

You’ll learn essential life skills like anger/stress management, effective communication and relationship building which facilitate lasting sobriety. You’ll also participate in whole person activities like yoga, meditation and nutritional counseling as well as alternative therapy like acupuncture and reiki. These wellness programs help you develop healthy habits and address the physical, spiritual and emotional aspects of addiction. Their dual diagnosis treatment also includes medication management and dialectical behavior therapy which fosters emotional regulation.

Upon graduating from inpatient care you can step down to either their intensive outpatient program or partial hospitalization program (PHP). Both programs offer ongoing support while allowing you to maintain daily responsibilities. Their intensive therapy involves up to nine hours of group sessions weekly. Sessions are designed to accommodate your work or academic schedule. This makes it ideal if you seek flexibility and convenience.

Partial hospitalization is more structured and involves more intensive care. You’ll attend up to 20 hours of therapy sessions weekly. This is great if you need more support or therapeutic interventions but not 24/7 supervision. You’ll receive treatment in the day and return home in the evening. Both programs involve continued therapeutic progress in group and individual formats as well as peer support. They also include family education and therapy to improve communication with loved ones and strengthen support systems. Comments from past clients reflect an overwhelmingly positive experience and incredible quality of care.

It would’ve been nice to receive a packet or some information when I entered the program. There was no direction as to how the detox procedure goes on. There were a lot of rude people that work there and definitely you could tell they didn’t care about any patients. There were a few good people there that were kind. For the most part, we were treated like zombies during the seven days of detox. We weren’t allowed any physical activities. they tell you that family members can call to get an update on their loved ones. And also someone would get in touch with them the day after they arrived. As loved ones are worried, we were not able to get through numerous times. No one answers the phone at the nurses station, and there’s a message that states, do not leave a message. Keep calling back. The rooms were nice. And you’ll be woken up every 15 minutes, no matter what stage of detox you are in. If you are lucky enough to go to the next level, which should include groups, and therapy, you won’t. All of the groups and the detox patients are thrown together for groups and meetings. no information is giving as to substance abuse, the whys, the what’s etc. So if you’re looking for detox without any Care, that’s the place for you. If you’re looking for Care after detox,go somewhere else. The thing I was most upset about, I looked at the medical history they provided for me. There were five prescriptions or medications I didn’t receive. So they’ve committed medical fraud. If you do end up going there when you leave, they’ll give you a medical history and before you leave take a look at it

I picked up a family member from here yesterday after three wasted weeks. They were originally supposed to stay for a fourth, but we made the decision to end the program early. Brook W.’s review was spot on. While Serenity might be effective for detox or basic sobriety support, it lacks the resources to properly address anxiety or depression. Unfortunately, we had to spend $22,000 to find that out. I can express how much I do NOT recommend this place!!! The first red flag was the no-visitation policy. The program was described as having full days of therapy and beneficial activities, but my family member reported being bored most of the time. Individual therapy was virtually nonexistent, and group sessions often devolved into complaints about disorganization or simply playing Jenga. Mental health and detox patients were treated the same, with little regard for their differing needs. The gym had very limited access and was described as old and unclean. The first roommate assigned was reportedly violent—someone that “everyone was afraid of.” We were told there would be private rooms, but that wasn’t the case upon arrival. When you inquire about Serenity, you’re actually connected to a Florida-based sales team. They’re very persuasive, but clearly more focused on enrollment than care quality. There was also a lack of consistency in case management. It often took multiple calls just to get an update or to have someone respond at all. We truly hoped this would be the right resource, but instead, it caused a significant setback. Brook W.’s review wasn’t an isolated experience, as it mirrored ours exactly.

Just came home after four weeks at Serenity Treatment Center and it was a wonderful experience. I came home more with a better understanding of my condition and given great coping skills to deal with my anxiety and depression. I want to thank with all my heart two people in particular My clinitions Jack who gave me great one one one therapy with a kind and gentle heart and Rob...both true gemsne. Rob ran many of the group sessions always giving a lot of information and encouraged us to recognize our needs and work on coping skills that for me we're so important. Rob had a way of running groups and not making the groups boring with different approaches such as occasional an chuckle combined with many serious conversations. Anyone lucky enough to enter into the Serenity program is truly lucky. I would be wrong not to acknowledge the techs, nursing, cooking and cleaning staff all wonderful people.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are designed for clients who are medically stable and not at an elevated risk of relapse, including those who have already completed inpatient care. Outpatient programs typically advance clients' established treatment plans, offering continuing addiction counseling and recovery education. Clients who enter outpatient care immediately following detox may also receive medical and mental health assessments and personalized treatment plans. Most outpatient rehabs provide multiple levels of care to align with clients' unique needs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab offers robust, hands-on care in a highly structured and supportive environment. The facility provides housing, meals, and round-the-clock supervision, allowing clients to focus exclusively on their recovery. Inpatient treatment typically involves intensive addiction counseling based on CBT, DBT, RBT, motivational interviewing, or other psychotherapeutic approaches. Many inpatient treatment centers also offer life skills training and/or complementary therapies, including meditation, mindfulness, and nutrition counseling.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) facilitate clients' sustained sobriety through high-level care aligned with their evolving needs. Clients engage in multiple treatment sessions per week, typically receiving between nine and 20 hours of outpatient care weekly. The frequency and intensity of treatment gradually decreases as clients stabilize. Many intensive outpatient rehabs offer a variety of services, including addiction counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT). Evidence-based complementary therapies are also common.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs offer customized, wraparound support for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery. Many clients enroll in drug rehab immediately after completing intensive inpatient or residential care. Services encompass outpatient treatment but often extend long beyond the completion of a formal recovery program and typically include a variety of medical, mental health, and social service programs. Peer coaching, relapse prevention, 12 step program induction, and related services are commonly available.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
The Serenity at Summit detoxification and recovery services are state of the art, integrating the latest medical, clinical and holistic programming for overall well-being. Here you, or your loved one, can recover in peace and comfort with total privacy and discretion. Their detox program is run by their expert, highly qualified medical, clinical and holistic teams. The staff is on stand-by 24/7 and each individual is guided through the process, every step of the way.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Couples therapy in Massachusetts is a short term therapy designed to equip you both with the skills you need to address conflicts and challenges in your relationship. During sessions, your counselor may meet with you individually and together.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Their program includes a fluid daily schedule, individualized for each of their clients. A personal schedule is planned to integrate overall wellness, with a focus on recovery. Mornings often begin with mindful meditation sessions, check-ins and psycho-educational groups that focus on key areas of recovery and wellness. Afternoons offer individualized counseling sessions, integrative movement, and group sessions. In the evenings, 12-step meetings and a variety of holistic services are offered. Clients will work with their treatment team in planning for their day.

The life skills you'll learn in rehab range from financial management to practicing healthy self care. They help you learn how to solve problems and make decisions, as well as develop healthy interpersonal relationships – all of which are key to successful recovery.

I had an extremely great experience. My mental health, and my substance abuse were addressed and worked on every single day. With medication and daily therapy sessions, and a greatly structured environment I felt very confident in moving into a sober living phase--which is a part of the recovery process. The team at Serenity are amazing. Thank you all for your hard work! -BooBoo

My son had accepted this program, which is DMH worker was involved in. She went there toured the facility and had convinced my son to go and even drove him there .20 days into it. The clinician John and the team had decided they were gonna move my son to blue Hills did not even bother to have the DMH worker or the parents in this decision. The DMH worker was a crucial part of my son even going to this program and should’ve been involved in the other program so in the end, they let my son go and he’s homeless there was no communication shame on all of you there. The DMH worker was a vital key to my son and you all ignored it.

My experience started with Robert from Linep he organized the stay and was very patient, I could only hope that the stay would be as nice. Nelson picked me up from the airport and I couldn’t have asked for a better person to escort me a genuine sweet heart. John was my counselor and listened without judgment and understood where I was coming from. No other counselor nor therapist would ever listen. Robert G from Serenity is a group leader that I need to thank for his “ No sugarcoating “ he is real and doesn’t mince words, but in a caring way. There is no ego stroking and that is what is needed. A heartfelt wanting for you to see yourself as worthy and as love. Thank You Robert❤️ All of the staff was wonderful, I’m sorry I can’t remember all of their names but they know who they are and I’m grateful to them all. The people who stayed along with me were the greatest help of all. Thank you All …..I Love You❤️

Place has amazing people here and is run very well. Still has room to improve for 1 on 1 counseling. Most counseling is done in a group so your personal endeavors and info is aired out most of the time. However this place will proved a place to heal and detox extremely comfortably if needed. Bed pillows are plastic covered so bring a pillow and blanket to be more at home.
