About Advanced Center for Psychotherapy

Advanced Center for Psychotherapy is a behavioral health service located in Forest Hills, New York. They treat people for many different psychological conditions including substance use disorder and alcohol use disorder. They also treat people who struggle with a combination of addiction and a mental health condition.

They accept private insurance and self-pay and they’re part of the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.

A Team of Mental Health Professionals

They have many different psychotherapists at this treatment center and they are either board-certified or board-eligible. There are also psychologists on the staff who can provide medically assisted treatment. They have social workers who can assist you in seeking public services such as low-cost housing and food stamps.

Therapy Services for the Whole Family

You will receive a full evaluation as well as group and individual therapy. You will be assigned a case manager who will follow your treatment every step of the way.

They have special services for adolescents and the elderly. They have group therapy sessions and support groups that are age-specific as people often feel most comfortable sharing personal information with those in their own age group.

Loved ones of people who have substance use disorder often need therapy to deal with the stress. They offer couple and family sessions where you can discuss your recovery with your family members. They offer play therapy for children which will help them express how they feel through play.

The Russian Family Program

People who are in a strange country for the first time may feel a sense of isolation. This may cause them to use substances or smoke.

This treatment center offers a unique service called The Russian Family Program which helps people from Russia assimilate into American culture. They can help you with socialization skills and parenting skills if you are new to the US. They can also help you to quit smoking.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Salima who is now so called the Manager is one of the worst exam ples of how a Manager should be. She is very disrespectful, prejudice and has her favorites.. She is very rude on the phone and teaches the other Receptionists to act the way she does... She disconnects my calls every time she speaks to me. She is disrespectable and unknowledgeable of how a Manager should behave with patients.. She needs to be fired from this job because she is causing many people alot of trouble.... This is the second time I am making a complaint about her and she still doesn't get her act together even when Jason spoke with her the first time...She is not suitable to be in the front desk at all...She makes patients uncomfortable the way she talks to them and does not take her job serous... She left me without medication for a couple of days the first time I made a complaint about her.... Please forward this to Dr. Chen at Jamaica Hospital and share our concerns...Thank You!

I was trying to make an appointment, everything should be through voice messages so they can call you back whenever they “can” I felt like I was literally begging for their service. If they don’t care about patients now, how does it work later?. They don’t receive direct phone calls, are they really as busy every minute of the day, every day ? Because if they can call me back, they could receive my call too. Why I can’t schedule a specific time to be called? why ? I have to wait for the random call back when they are ready, unbelievable! Such a messy system. I saw this in the comments and you know we try to give them another chance but the supervisor literally told me “ our system works for everyone except you” Do they check the reviews ? that made me understand they don’t care, be careful people. ✨

If you are referred to this office, be prepared to advocate for yourself. It is a slow process to get seen for the first time, and even more so if you want to change providers. I saw Dr. Khaimov and began to have problems when I experienced an adverse reaction to a medication. First, I was unable to contact him even though it was an emergency. Later, he became extremely defensive when I began to ask questions about course of treatment and concerns about adverse reactions. It has been a month and have yet to be scheduled with a new provider.

The doctors and therapists are excellent. But the administrative process like request of records, very huge ridiculous delays. That gives the clinic a negative impression. Shows lake of care por people. Care, diligence, and excellent timing is a MUST in hospitals and clinics. In this clinic it's MISSING.
