This psychiatric hospital did not provide my son with the proper care placement that he so urgently needed. My daughter and I pleaded with the caseworker, Mr. Clark, and with Dr. Jones and Dr. Jennifer, to please conserve my son. We were completely ignored. We advocated for my son to the fullest extent any parent possibly could. We submitted multiple emails, documents, and recent evidence of serious events, all of which were disregarded. Even his primary psychiatrist called and spoke directly with Dr. Jones. Still, no action was taken.Dr. Jones came across as someone completely disconnected from the emotional reality of the families he s supposed to help like a mad scientist with no heart. He refused to meet with us, and we never received even a single phone call from him. That behavior will absolutely be reported to the hospital. It feels as if they hold no respect for families perhaps because they assume the family members of patients are also mentally ill, and therefore unworthy of being heard. I repeatedly told Mr. Clark via email not to place my son in a board and care. I explained that this type of placement has failed him every single time in the past.Despite my clear warnings, they did exactly that and in the most dishonest way. They didn t inform me until my son was already in the medical transportation van on his way to the facility.Upon arriving at Telecare Olive House, I learned it s not exactly a board and care but rather a short-term crisis center, with a maximum 90-day stay. Shortly after arrival, my son left the facility. They didn t even notify me. I only found out the next day when I called them myself. When I heard he had walked out right after being dropped off, my heart nearly stopped. I was in shock, in disbelief, and in tears. My son was back on the streets no phone, no money, no debit card, just the clothes on his back in an unfamiliar area 30 miles from home. They didn t even file a critical missing persons report. They said it wasn t their responsibility. This is now the fourth night he s been missing. Our family has been driving around Sylmar frantically searching for him. We ve received no updates from law enforcement. We are terrified terrified that the next call we get will be from a hospital, a jail, or worse, the coroner. The system has failed my son. Doctors don t want to take responsibility because of the paperwork and the inconvenience of going to court to file a conservatorship petition. That s what this comes down to: laziness, masked by excuses.Something needs to be done. I will be reaching out to legislators and to the public defender for legal counsel.Thank you, Dr. Jones and Mr. Clark, for being so sneaky. How do the two of you sleep at night?

No one wants to be here typically let s be honest. I was a patient ended up here involuntary both times and we have to remember that 80% of the people here are quite mentally ill. 20% of us are usually just here due to stupid actions related to drug use or something. Anyways, the facility was amazing. The staff is very very decent. There s one Latino guy that runs the show and he s amazing. I had the same older doctor he was great. They do what they can. Clean facility, decent food, lots of activities. Just support your family members, anyone can end up here it doesn t have to define our lives. Today I m sober, college graduate, attained my ph.d, work in finance, live an amazing life. It s not about where you start but where you end up! Thank you to all who work in this industry.

Negligent, dehumanizing, and dangerously unprofessional care. Our family s experience with Dr. Leonard Jones, Jennifer Rousch, and case manager Akeio Clarke has been absolutely devastating. Despite providing detailed documentation of my loved one s complex psychiatric history and repeatedly warning that a board and care facility would be unsafe our concerns were dismissed without any meaningful consideration.Within less than an hour of being placed, my loved one fled the facility. It has now been over five days, and they are still out on the streets without food, water, shelter, a phone, or life-saving medication. We warned this exact outcome would happen, and yet the team chose to ignore us.Instead of partnering with our family, Dr. Jones and Jennifer Rousch insisted that our loved one was at baseline and excited for board and care statements that were not only inaccurate but dangerously negligent. We begged them to initiate the LPS conservatorship process, which could have protected him. They refused. A single piece of paperwork could have changed everything. Now, our loved one is a critically missing person, and our entire family is suffering deeply. We are out every day searching for him, unable to sleep, and living in constant fear for his life. The emotional toll has been overwhelming my mother is now experiencing severe panic attacks and breathing difficulties due to the trauma and stress caused by this team s inaction. To make matters worse, Jennifer Rousch made an unprofessional and deeply inappropriate comment implying that our loved one would have received better care if he had better insurance. This type of insurance-shaming is unacceptable, especially from someone entrusted with supporting our most vulnerable. These providers took advantage of someone who was mentally ill and in crisis. They showed no compassion, no accountability only detachment and a concerning focus on procedure over people. Their lack of action and empathy reflects a systemic failure that contributes to the homelessness crisis we see every day. They are part of the problem. We are now working hard to ensure this doesn t happen to another family. We will be filing formal complaints and reporting each person involved. These individuals should not be in positions of power they should be fired. What happened to our loved one is not just tragic it was preventable. If you are seeking help for a vulnerable family member, please think twice before trusting this team. Their indifference may cost more than you can imagine.

Accepted Insurance

BHC Alhambra Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
When an individual is in denial about their substance use disorder, their loved ones may organize a drug intervention in California. This effort involves gently but assertively confronting the individual about their substance use and sharing how it has affected those who care about them. A professional interventionist may also attend this gathering. Their expertise with intervention services can prove helpful in guiding the conversation to a positive result.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive form of outpatient treatment where clients meet during the day and return home in the evening. PHP treatment doesn't require 24-hour care and often serves as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down after a residential program. With PHP treatment, you can receive daily support for 6 to 8 hours which includes evidence-based therapies and medication management. The cost of PHP treatment typically varies but averages 90 days.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The goal of couples therapy in California is to strengthen the couple's relationship. The therapist may take one or more approaches to counseling which may include the Gottman method, emotionally focused therapy, behavioral therapy, and psychodynamic couple's therapy.

The goal of nicotine replacement therapy in California is to mitigate the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. It cuts down on your cravings by supplying a small dose of nicotine without exposing your body to the toxins of cigarette smoke.

I went to this this location due to suicide thoughts back in 2014, It was my first time going to any of mental facility. Dr. Jones is one who send me there and he didn't make sure that I receive ASL interpreter when I was seen him for first time, I had to write down everything. Whole times I was there I had no access to knowledge of what going on and no interpreter. When Dr. Jones giving me medicine I woke up at middle of night I was in painful and confusing due to Side effects. Nurse there gave me Tylenol. Also, When I asked them to use phone and they don't have TTY. Nurse had to call my loving one. When I come home and my loving one told me things that I never told nurse they made me looks like crazy twisted words! Lack of communication too.

To whom it may concern, Unfortunately my experience at the facility was one that I wasn’t prepared for. Some of the staff were using profanity towards the patients. Some of the staff were very unwelcoming and showed no compassion to the most vulnerable ones. I personally experienced the animosity from various staff members except for three individuals 2 ladies and one of the nurses named George that showed empathy towards me. George went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable in a difficult situation. Upon my arrival, no one took the time to asked me if I had eaten yet. George was the only one to go out of his way to provide me with something to eat. Although my experience was traumatic to say the least, I will never forget the kindness and humanity that George bestowed upon me. Also, I want to thank Dr. Singh for taking time out to speak with me and comfort me at a time when I felt I most needed his compassion. Sincerely, Candelaria Ramos

My daughter came back from this place worse than how she started. First of all they went behind our backs and sent her away without our consent. Second Dr. McNeel was the worst person I have ever met. He lied to us, he misdiagnosed her and he didn't give her the right meds. The nurse and staff were awful. They told her to stop crying repeatedly and didn't help her when she was having a panic attack. They showed no respect to me and my husband and constantly yelled at us on calls. We couldn't see our daughter for days and she was calling us upset and begging to go home. I can't get over how awful this place was and please do not send your kids hear. If your kids happen to end up here do NOT request Dr. McNeel.

UPDATE: Just as we urgently warned Dr. Jones, our loved one who is gravely disabled and unable to care for himself—was wrongfully released. Despite our repeated pleas, documented evidence, and deep knowledge of his psychiatric history, the medical team ignored our concerns and failed in their duty of care. We told them clearly: releasing him would result in a crisis. They dismissed our family’s input, relying only on a superficial evaluation. This gross oversimplification of a serious psychiatric condition was not just negligent—it was dangerous. As predicted, our loved one disappeared for nearly 10 days, wandering the streets without food, medication, shelter, or money, while in a full-blown psychotic episode. Now tragically, he has been incarcerated. Instead of receiving treatment, he is being held in solitary confinement—completely isolated, w/o proper clothing or basic dignity, and still in a state of active psychosis. He does not belong in jail. He belongs in a hospital, under compassionate psychiatric care. This entire situation was preventable. Dr. Leonard Jones and Jennifer Rousch ignored over ten detailed warnings from our family. We gave them clear documentation, shared his history of hospitalizations, and even submitted written testimonies from family members. Still, they turned their backs on him—and on us. The emotional toll is unbearable. We are speaking out because we refuse to let this happen in silence. These providers must be held accountable not only for their inaction, but for the irreversible harm they caused. Negligent, dehumanizing, and dangerously unprofessional care. Our family’s experience with Dr. Leonard Jones, Jennifer Rousch, and case manager Akeio Clarke has been absolutely devastating. Despite providing detailed documentation of my loved one’s complex psychiatric history—and repeatedly warning that a board and care facility would be unsafe—our concerns were dismissed without any meaningful consideration. Bhc El Hambra saved my life. The staff including nurses and doctors were attentive and helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone with mental health issues and trauma. The staff is friendly and the groups are extremely helpful. The therapist and psychiatrist really care. Thank you Dr. Jones for all your help. Lindsey was awesome and all the front desk staff as well.

Idk man, I liked it. I’ve seen many bad reviews. Yeah it sucks to be around people who we don’t know, but there are groups we can go to and participate to get a perk. Luckily I didn’t engage in arguments that obviously would have led to bad altercation. I kept to myself and just really spoke to staff. It does get boring but you can have books there to read and pass time. I guess it all depends if you’re problematic or not. I don’t like where I was sent afterwards, but luckily I’ll be transferred somewhere else soon. The therapists there really listen to everyone. I found it interesting only because I like all the attention. But for the most part I learned a lot from the groups. It can get dark and scary, but anyone writing bad reviews should realize that people in there got themselves there.
