About Cottonwood Counseling and Family Services – Closed

Cottonwood Counseling and Family Services in Littleton, Colorado offered outpatient counseling on site and via teletherapy. The clinic offered a sliding scale fee for clients who needed financial assistance obtaining treatment.

Counseling was offered for individuals, couples and families. They could help with a wide range of mental health needs, but clients with substance use disorder were educated about addiction, how to prevent relapses, and recovery.

Specialized Counseling for Women and Other Individualized Needs

Families were included in the client’s substance use treatment. Clients were treated for relationship issues, emotional and mood disorders, grief and loss, stress, women’s issues, and men’s issues.

Anxiety disorders such as panic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder were treated. Women who had experienced violence and trauma received specialized therapy for domestic violence and other scenarios.

Treatment by Experienced Clinical Staff

Clinic staff were noted as saying “We believe in empowering our clients to build the tools they need for lifelong well-being.” Clients reported staff as being compassionate and knowledgeable while offering effective strategies for sobriety.

Sally Marelius, MMHC LPC, preferred to engage in dialogue with her clients. She would “brain storm” with the client for solutions to challenges the client was dealing with.

Sally had experience treating clients with diverse economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. She also had experience working in a variety of locations such as schools, churches, private, and public organizations.

I wish they had a way to split my ratings..most things ARE 5 Star but a few CRITICAL l items cause me to give only a two star because they upset me so much. FIRST the many good things. 1. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION..across from the court house on West Littleton Blvd you can walk to the Metro Station, Chase Bank, and the Post Office! Then the restaurants and stores are next! Such a pleasant little downtown with both unique restaurants and boutique stores AND the community theatre. 2. Facilities- this is new construction with many appartment options and great community rooms. The place is immaculate with a cleannig crew that can nit be beat. Maintenance is also tops with a timely response to problems. 3. Activities- The activity director, Amy, is an energizer bunny on SPEED!! She is a go getter that LISTENS to the residents. She is simply amazing. So, what can be bad. Just a few things. 1. I have concerns that I wish to voice to corporate management as well as our site manager. Our on site manager is GREAT but there are concerns I wish to raise with the "top dogs". Neither their phone numbers, email info etc was provided to me. The following issues I think are unsatifactory and needed to be addressed in a timely manner by the "top dogs. 2. Handicapped Entry Curb- The main entrance is covered protecting folks from rain and snow. HOWEVER, many residents use walkers, rollaters and even wheelchairs. One resident is completly blind while others have site issues. These handicapped individuals must go into rain or snow for a ramp to enter a vehicle. I was told this was an APPROVED design when the bldg was first occupied. They would work to get it into the budget with no sense of urgency. I have been told by other residents that people HAVE fallen but I have no personal experience. 3. My wife just died and my one year lease expired about 7 days after her death. I have NO IDEA what I will do now to include WHERE DO I WANT TO LIVE. Her death was sudden due to a fall and death less than 6 days later. I had a choice. Sign a one year lease OR pay a premium of $400 per month for month to month contract. My wife and I lived here for two years with timely payments and great relations within the community. After 2 good years, when a resident faces an unsolvable problem, this heartless company choose to charge a $400 monthly premium because my wife had just DIED and did not know what to do! In conclusion, I would NOT have written this review if it were not for the death of my wife. While this is a 55Plus community, the average age I would guess to be OVER 75 with active and handicapped residents. Deaths, crippling falls, strokes etc are all too common. I can only conclude that a blood thirsty , money driven philosophy is in place. This is ONLY MY experience and the local management is kind within their boundaries. UPDATE:

Addiction Treatments

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Professional services are often necessary to recover from addiction. Drug rehab in Colorado provides the expert services needed to address the complex issues of addiction and help individuals start their recovery journey.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

I was fortunate to find Vita when I moved to Littleton from the Midwest. I was looking for an active 55+ community and was thrilled when I went to visit Vita!! It is a community that has something to offer every resident, no matter what their interest. Besides the building's beautiful amenities (including pool, fitness room, outdoor cooking and fire pit) and fun social events - there are also many physical, intellectual, and creative classes that are included in your monthly rent. Downtown Littleton shops, restaurants and Light Rail Station are just steps away from the door!! The staff at Vita is very accessible, supportive and receptive to new ideas.

Response from the owner
Hi Jan!

We are so happy to hear you are loving your time at Vita, and are enjoying all of the activities, and how everyone here truly make this community more of a neighborhood than a building. As we always say, our residents are our greatest asset, and we want to do everything to continue your great experience here at Vita Littleton! All of our residents make it a joy to come into work, and continue to serve you!
