About Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital

Formerly Kennedy Health, Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital takes mental health care seriously and has developed several incredible programs to meet the growing mental health needs of the residents of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. They offer more than a half dozen programs to treat addiction and substance abuse.

Their programs range from maternal addiction to intensive substance abuse treatment to narcotics rehabilitation. There are also outreach programs, medical stabilization services and a case management program that allows individuals to have consistency in care. Individuals are treated by a healthcare team rather than several random health care professionals.

Insurance is accepted, but if you don’t have any, that shouldn’t be a barrier to getting the help you need. There are financial assistance programs and payment plan options to help those who are underinsured.

Intensive Substance Abuse Treatment

Individuals who are struggling with addiction or substance abuse and trying to cope with other mental health conditions can attend an intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment program. Individuals may come here as their first form of treatment or after a hospitalization or residential detox program to provide a smooth transition as they return to the community.

The program is usually three to four months long, and individuals are expected to attend for at least nine hours each week. Those hours will be spent doing group therapy, individual therapy, 12 Step groups, health education sessions and activity groups.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services

Children and youth are dealing with mental health and behavioral issues at an alarming rate, so Jefferson Health does their best to diagnose, manage and treat emotional, behavioral and neurodevelopmental conditions as early as possible. They provide inpatient, after-school intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) and outpatient psychiatric and mental health services for children and youth ages 2-18.

Psychotherapy, medication assisted therapy and family counselling are all a part of mental health care plans for young patients. They help families and their young ones cope with developmental disorders, disruptive behavior and mood disorders, neurodiversity and neurodevelopmental challenges.

Adult and Senior Psychiatric Care

Mental health concerns among adults of all ages can be effectively treated through one of many programs at Jefferson Health. This may include outpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient treatment or outpatient and peer support programs.

Worst Hospital Experience in New Jersey - Avoid This Place! If you re considering this hospital, don t waste your time. My experience was absolutely terrible, and I can t believe this place is still operating at this level. I came into the ER with severe abdominal pain, and while the wait time in the waiting room wasn t bad, things went downhill as soon as I was taken back.I ended up waiting over 8 hours for an ultrasound, and when I asked why the wait was so long, the staff kept making excuses about being very busy. However, I looked around and saw empty rooms and waiting area with 2-3 people. The hospital felt completely understaffed and disorganized.Once I was taken upstairs, the hallways were empty, and I was put into a room with no nurse to assist me. I was left to fend for myself, and when I needed help using the bathroom (I was hooked up to an two IVs, one on each arm), I started pressing on I ve machine to see if I could pause it or stop it but a nurse finally passed by and helped.I arrived at 3 pm and didn t leave until 1 pm the next day, and you d think they would ve at least done something productive in that time, but no. The doctor wanted to give me pain meds and then ordered an MRI after I had already had a CT scan (from two weeks prior) and ultrasound. I don t understand why they needed so much testing. When CT scan had already confirmed all I needed was a simple gallbladder removal. Then they told me i needed the MRI at 3:30 am but didn t actually take me down until 12:30 pm the next day because they were backed up. I was over it at this point and left. They kept making excuses like there s only one MRI technician or we don t do imaging on weekends, but when I finally got down there, I saw two technicians working and I ve been there before and they have done ct scan on the weekend so idk that was weird to me. And I had fasted all day, expecting to have surgery the same day when I came in, only to be told I couldn t eat and then forced to wait until after surgery but with the looks of things I would have to wait two more days fasting smh. The level of miscommunication and disorganization was infuriating.I was so frustrated by the delays and constant excuses that I ended up leaving against medical advice. They were making a simple process so difficult, and I couldn t waste any more of my time in that place. On top of that, I had to pay $200-300 per night in copays, and the doctor came in and told me it could take a couple of days to resolve. I lost a full day of work and have to pay a outrageous amount of money for terrible care. Hell no. My sister had her gallbladder removed and her process was less than 24 hrs in Philadelphia. This hospital needs to hire more qualified staff and seriously reevaluate their entire system. If they can t even get the basics right, I don t know how they expect to handle more complex cases. I ve never felt more frustrated and disrespected by a healthcare facility. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs.

I ve said it before and I will say it again, THIS HOSPITAL NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN FOR MALPRACTICE!!!! I have never once heard of a good experience here. If I could give zero stars, I would. If you care about yourself or your loved ones DO NOT GO HERE!!!My dad was brought to Jefferson last night in an ambulance after having really bad leg cramps, but to the point where his entire body went stiff, he felt the pain in his chest, and he was vomiting from the pain. He does not take care of himself, does not keep up with routine checkups or procedures like he should, eats like crap, has had high cholesterol in the past, and has been having issues with controlling his bowels. Me, my sister, and my mom all told the nurse this, plus our concern about the way his legs looked. The receptionist literally told me We don t have any rooms available so I m not sure what they re going to do with him. In other words, they did not have room for him so from the start their only concern was how to get him discharged so they could turn the bed and move on to the next patient. It gave us the impression from the start that their priority was to discharge him quickly rather than provide proper care. They took my dad back, put him in a hall bed, and did the absolute bare minimum. They did a minimal insufficient bloodwork panel that failed to check for critical issues like cholesterol levels. He was also never given a hospital gown, which means they didn t even do a physical exam. Maybe if they did, they would have noticed his swollen, yellow, hairless legs that we told them about, which can all be signs of a vascular issue. After all of this, their diagnosis was DEHYDRATION. A man with swollen yellow legs, cramps to the point of vomiting, and consistently losing control of his bowels is just extremely dehydrated. Oh, and after that diagnosis, they did not even give him IV fluids to hydrate him! They discharged him & sent him on his way with a list of specialists to go see. Not once did they educate him on steps to better take care of himself, not once did they stress to him that this can be serious if she doesn t go see the recommended doctors, not once did they take the situation seriously. Because they just thought it was dehydration, and needed to get him out for the hospital space. Absolutely sickening. I have heard many people have this experience with Jefferson, even local doctors offices and other hospitals cringe at the name "Jefferson" because they are known for this malpractice.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
A program offered days and evenings that runs for approximately three-and-a-half-hours. Patients attend a combination of psycho-educational and psychodynamic groups. Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school).
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
inpatient iconInpatient
They offer two acute levels of care (the Short Term Care Facility and the Open-Side) at the West Pavilion at Kennedy - Cherry Hill, a 35-bed inpatient psychiatric unit. Each level offers individually tailored treatment plans for adult patients. The treatment team includes board certified psychiatrists, residents, interns, nurse clinical specialists, RNs, dance, movement and art therapists, social workers and mental health technicians.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients in a rehab aftercare program have typically completed detox and intensive inpatient and are medically stable. These programs are designed to address addiction recovery as a life-long process. Outpatient counseling and recovery education are typically categorized as drug rehab aftercare, but many clients continue to receive support after being discharged from formal outpatient treatment. Case managers and recovery teams facilitate clients' access to peer coaching, career counseling, 12 step program induction, and related services.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. The Dual Diagnosis Intensive Outpatient program designed to specifically address each patient's co-occurring mental health and substance abuse issues. Patients are taught tools for relapse prevention and recovery from addiction as they progress in their recovery.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational interviewing helps clients find their motivation to change. It can be an effective method to work with clients who are angry or hostile or feel insecure about their ability to make changes in their lives. It is often used during addiction treatment or to manage physical health conditions.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Building life skills allows you to demolish negative patterns of behavior and build new, healthy patterns. By building new thought processes, coping strategies, and behaviors, you establish a solid foundation for recovery.

Nutrition therapy is more than a simple meal plan during rehab. It's designed to facilitate a faster recovery by giving your body the nutrients it needs to heal. It aids in strengthening your systems and giving you the energy you need for daily functioning and success in other therapies.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

For best results, nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) should be combined with other methods to quit smoking. While NRT addresses physical dependence, other quit program elements are necessary to address emotional and mental dependence. Together, these supports can help you successfully quit tobacco for good.

I went here for a masectomy with Dr. Suzanna Nazarian. The nurses were extremely friendly and everyone was very competent. Jamie's (the nurse) bedside manner was so good that I didn't feel nervous at all. I'm so glad that I chose to go to this hospital, even though it's a bit far from my house!

I sense the lack of urgency which is funny considering being in an emergency facility. I don’t feel the staff at fault but the extraordinary time for testing and results seems excessive. Here at 2PM ,severe abdominal and cat scan ordered”. Waiting in queue for approximately 3 1/2 hours and then waiting another hour and a half for results (still waiting )seems excessive. Don’t know how serious my wife’s condition was at the time. still don’t, but not waiting much longer.

My wife just had hernia surgery there and while she received prompt care I didn't receive the best explanations for why things were done the way they were and why another surgery might be needed.

The care team is amazing, and the hospital is clean and beautiful. My elderly mother was admitted after a fall and had hip replacement surgery. Everyone was kind and supportive. She’s still recovering, but the care has been exceptional. Not sure why the reviews are so negative. Many complaints seem to come from people visiting the ER for non-emergency issues that would be better handled at urgent care. Like any emergency department, they prioritize the most critical cases first. When the ER is overwhelmed with non-urgent visits, it naturally leads to longer wait times—even for those who truly need immediate care. It’s important to understand how the system works before placing blame.

We're glad to hear you enjoyed your visit. We hope to be of service to you again in the future.

This hospital is full of great staff. My dad is currently admitted her for about a week and every single person he’s come in contact with has been kind, respectful and made him feel seen and heard. They have reassured me time and time again. They actually care and I’ve never felt like they were avoiding him. I wish I lived near this hospital because they put the CARE in healthcare. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

My experience with the Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital is one of horror. My husband was in here in the hospital on May 6 and seventh. He had his skin ripped from his arm by a nurse who ripped off the tape he was stuck for viciously, trying to look for a vain by 15 different people Nurses leave the room said they be back. They don’t come back for at least 6 to 7 minutes. I have pictures where I timed them. They delivered him some salty chicken broth. I came into the room, which was filthy dirty. The floors had not been mopped. It looked like all that happened with the bed would be me. They need to get something on their housekeeping, cause they’re not cleaning these rooms. My husband came into this hospital as a stem cell transplant patient and he was supposed to be in a room by himself and they placed him in a room with four people likes ward

This place is absolutely horrendous. I went to the ER last night because I was experiencing a serious asthma attack to the point where I was extremely dizzy. Not only were the front desk people extremely rude and kept rolling their eyes at me when I expressed my symptoms but they also had the audacity to tell all the single people with no kids in the lobby to get out of our seats and make room for others who were coming in with kids. (there were plenty of seats, mind you). I could hear people struggling already to make this ridiculous accommodation. Ultimately, after an excruciating wait, I asked the front desk staff if they knew how long the wait was and they said they didn’t know. I told them I would be leaving to another ER and I asked if I could get my $100.00 payment refunded and I was told no. I will be filing a claim/ dispute for this disgusting scam. This hospital will not be taking my money. This whole situation sent me into a panic attack and worsened my symptoms but thank goodness a local hospital took me in right away and I was able to find relief from my life threatening crisis. They took my concerns very seriously and were kind and empathetic. Please do not ever come here if you want to get gaslit and scammed out of your money! I am not interested in hearing from the “patient advocacy” team at Jefferson. Stop gaslighting patients/ putting them in danger and make your staff live up to your hypocritical standards.

The worst ER in the country. They treat You like an animal not a patient. People need to get together and sue this place. I have never been so disrespected in my life. The Drs their on Tuesday morning should have their license revoked to work in America. I wouldn't go there again if I was dying.

If you want to be unlived, experience trauma or just be belittled than take your chances at this hospital. Jefferson in Cherry Hill. NJ needs to be shut down for malpractice because if you go to the Emergency room here by Ambulance and you need immediate help and if you are seen after waiting hours, you could be unlived as one of my best friend was a month ago. I had a illness for over a year that left me bedridden in excruciating pain for over a year. I saw Dr's here and was in the Emergency room 9 times. After a year and one half I was finally given the surgery I needed. Dr Blair and my bariatric Dr were a blessing to me. I am very grateful to them. However, with the exception of one angel nurse on the 3rd floor, this is a very, very Bad hospital. Don't go here. The ER Dr's are rude, condescending and liers. Once, I spent 2 days in the ER before being admitted. 3 times my bed was in the middle of the hall. The nurses are aggressively mean on the 3rd floor and the 3rd floor is way understaffed. Also, I was given medication that had interactions with other medications I took. Please 🙏 🙏 🙏 don't go to Jefferson in Cherry Hill, NJ.
