Before coming to Soba, I was going through a rough time with alcohol for several months.
I walked through the door, the staff treated me very well. This facility is a place to get sober it’s small and comfy. You can really build strong connections and focus on road to recovery.
The group sessions focused on trauma and life skills, and holistic activities (like sound bowl, crystals and meditation) gave me the tools I needed to build a sustainable life in recovery. HOV holistic group session also were great. I truly valued all the group sessions. All the other techs were amazing as well. The living environment was comfortable, however the detox floor was extremely cold. Please turn up the heat. The food was ok we had snacks galore set aside everyday. Saturday nights were the best it was movie night, take out food and a huge snack and candy spread courtesy of Mike who is also a great guy. Thanks again. I would also say I met some amazing people who that’s on the same sober living lifestyle who I will definitely keep in touch with
my new sober family. I would suggest getting
more NA books/material. The cleaning staff needs to be more efficient and thorough with the cleaning and taking out the trash. Please turn up the heat and make the shower water a more hotter instead of luke warm.
I would recommend SOBA as a place to go for your road to recovery and sobriety even with those minor suggestions. I want to give a shoutout to Mike C, HOV, Brittany, Julia, Treva, David, Bridget you guys truly rock and made my experience the best.

My experience at the Soba House in New Brunswick, New Jersey has been nothing short of life changing. From the moment I arrived the staff made me feel supported respected, and genuinely cared for. Their compassion and dedication played a huge role in my alcohol recovery, and I never once felt alone there on my personal journey. Everyone there from the counselors to the support team created an environment where I could heal, grow, and rediscover confidence in myself. I’m truly grateful for the kindness and encouragement that they’ve showed me every step of the way. Big shouts out to HOV, MIKE, and DAVE for making my experience at the Soba house feel welcoming. With the movie nights, to morning check ins, I felt like I was at home. Was brought in via EMS, admitted for 2 nights and 3 days in the adolescent unit. The hospital staff are incredible, caring and always smiling at all hours. The night neuro team came in while I was having an episode, instead of just making sure I was medically stable they held my hand and reassured me that they were right next to me and I'd be ok- all at 3 in the morning! Shout out to Nurses Kim, Sam, Heather; all the rest of the nurses in Adolescents; Doctor Sarah Yavelberg and the Peds team; and Art Therapist Christiana and Child Life Specialist Jasdeep 🩷🩷! I definitely felt safe, taken care of, listened to, validated and understood during my hospitalization.
Additionally, the place is very clean, aesthetically appealing, and well-designed. There was a bed with a separate curtain, light and tv for parent to stay overnight. Meals can be ordered from an extensive menu and are delivered to rooms. They changed sheets as often as requested, even multiple times a day.
People ask why I insist on traveling the hour distance to New Brunswick for emergencies, and this is why! If there was an option to give more than five stars, RWJ New Brunswick would definitely get it!

SOBA was extremely important for the beginning of my recovery journey. They taught me the tools I needed to set up for success. Kristen and Katelyn my therapists were compassionate and informative the techs were all awesome. The tech supervisor Abby was extremely helpful in facilitating all my requests and needs.
