About South Bay Guidance Wellness Recovery Center

South Bay Guidance Center, located in Chula Vista, California, is a care clinic that serves men and women who need support for a mental health struggle or co-occurring substance use disorder.

There are recovery programs here that are funded in part by San Diego County and other state agencies. Because of this, they accept Medi-Cal and Medicare, along with most major insurance plans.

You will not be denied care because of an inability to pay or because you don’t have insurance. All of their services happen in an outpatient setting.

Supportive Care

You’ll work with a dedicated team of mental and behavioral health professionals who will identify the unique struggles you’re facing. After a thorough evaluation, they’ll create a targeted treatment plan.

To help reach you in the way you need, there are services including a mobile outreach team, addiction counselors, and case management services. They also offer all of their services in Spanish as well.

Referrals for care can come from families, local hospital systems, and the justice system among other agencies.

I get meds for my mental health issues from my psychiatrist. I have a therapist for counseling. I also like to hear about their positive and productive workshops! I'm getting better one day at a time.

I been with them for two decades, the admin females remained sharp and professional, yet their character decreased in judging walk-ins impartially - they have the option to avoid "making up" for personal stereotypes and being afraid of the manager at the same time.A revolving door of doctors seemed to pressure them to not take patients seriously/honestly. Certain individuals know their health very intimately and sensibly, and diagnoses and inconclusive reports distort feedback.Almost all the doctors I've had overmedicated me and were not flexible in talking options. The psychiatrists for peer support showed themselves diverse, some false psychological and others considedly open-minded.

Accepted Insurance

South Bay Guidance Wellness Recovery Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

🚫 I should have gotten a courtesy heads up from from these people of where they were going to be sending me exactly, this is not the place to go p for walk-ins as far as it goes in my case I was looking for medication because I had ran out and I haven't been established in a mental health center since I paroled, they ended up sending me to Paradise valley hospital In chula Vista, I didn't know I was basically unknowingly walking into a Crisis mental health hospital when I simply needed medication refill, I could have been placed on a psychiatric hold, Sense I'm pretty Unique unusual and extraordinary, nonetheless after seeing 5 mental health professionals it was determined that I am completely utterly mentally stable in spite of Unimaginable Hells that I've survived, so for whatever reason I was actually pretty happy that I was helped out right there and I left a pretty good impression and it was determined that I am very intelligent and resilient but, I would had prefer having gone to Jane Westin in downtown like I normally would if I had ran out of medications, they will give you a refills as long as you make it before 4:00 you will see a psychiatrist and get a mental health evaluation you walk out of there with your medications the same day and pretty quickly to, unless there's a lot of people you have to wait on.

If you choose to be lead to insanity choose this place of underwhelming service to care for the cosmic order. I have arrived at this post by divine nature and the services ushered as priority were not in alignment. Disregard this source of aid for further production.

This place is an uncaring place with cold unhelpful front desk, and has no decent doctor/medical providers. They now only have a nurse that is either late or no call no show for patient appointments; and do not respond to requests for help. No one in this office cares about people's mental health. No help from everyone to make the provider be accountable for actions.

Been going to therapy for depression. The level of care and real caring of the staff, goes above and beyond the service they provide. I highly recommend to visit and get help from people who care and will help you get through your struggles. Thank you for all the love 💙

I am giving South Bay Guidance Center a 5-star rating because they are a fantastic organization that have surely saved many lives. The staff is always very friendly, kind, and compassionate and they really care about their patients. Important to remember that because it's a government-funded clinic, there is a very high employee turnover and their doctors are usually only available once a week, which can be pretty challenging if you have a busy schedule. However, the pros categorically outweigh the cons. Turnover is high, yes, but I’ve met a lot of highly qualified, empathetic professionals that deserve a lot of praise for their work, patience and devotion. If you've struggled with mental health in the past but have not been able to get the help you need, make an appointment! I can guarantee that they will do everything to make sure everybody gets the best treatment possible.
