Villa Kali Ma is a holistic treatment center in Carlsbad, California, that offers addiction recovery services for women. Staff members are also able to help treat trauma, mental health disorders and co-occurring disorders. A unique thing about this location is it uses treatment practices from both Western and Eastern medicines. The facility aims to
I can’t fully put into words what Villa Kali Ma gave me, but I can honestly say it changed my life. I came here wanting deep healing, not just coping skills, and that’s exactly what I found. For the first time, I was able to understand how much my childhood and trauma had been influencing the choices I was making without even realizing it. It was intense, fast paced, and incredibly effective because I was ready to do the work, and they gave me the tools and support to do it. The program is so thoughtfully designed, and every therapy is intentional. We experienced EMDR, IFS, yoga, craniosacral therapy, Reiki, sound healing, trauma release work, individual and group therapy, and so many other evidence-based approaches that helped me heal on every level. The staff met me with kindness, compassion, and genuine care, while also knowing when to gently push me to grow. The food was delicious. Healthy, organic, fresh, and made with high-quality ingredients. As someone who already ate a mostly plant based diet, I still noticed a huge difference in how I felt physically, and I even lost 12 pounds simply by nourishing my body well. They even cooked gluten free options for me. I left healthier emotionally, mentally, and physically than I have been… probably ever. If you’re willing to show up with an open heart and truly do the work, this place will change your life. I will always be grateful to every person at Villa Kali Ma for helping me become the person I knew was somewhere inside me all along.

Villa Kali Ma truly changed my life for the better. Their holistic approach to treating substance use and mental health not only healed my mind, but also nourished my soul. The vegan meals helped restore my physical health, making me feel stronger and more energized. The women who work here are incredibly compassionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in each person’s healing journey. From the moment I arrived, the beautiful, comfortable home made me feel safe, supported, and truly at ease. In addition to individual and group therapy throughout the week, we participated in a variety of outdoor activities and experienced powerful holistic healing practices that supported our recovery on every level mind, body, and spirit. Villa Kali Ma gave me the tools, confidence, and inner strength to build a beautiful, peaceful, and sober life. I will always be grateful for the care, support, and hope I found there. It was truly a life-changing experience💕✨

I chose Villa Kali Ma in 2018 during the most difficult time of my life. Looking back now, I realize I was recovering from narcissistic abuse and parental alienation, which led to alcohol dependence. Seeking help at Villa Kali Ma was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Villa Kali Ma is a beautiful, serene setting in San Diego, and Kay, the owner, is an inspiration in so many ways. Dr. Ashley Amundson is also someone who has blown me away by her remarkable journey. The staff was exceptional, the vegan meals were delicious, listening to Trevor Hall music throughout the day gave me life, and the thoughtfully designed daily schedule offered a balance of healing, movement, and self-care. Every detail made me feel supported and at peace. When I think about my time there, it feels more like I attended a wellness retreat than a treatment program. Even now, after several years of sobriety and rebuilding my life, I often wish I could return for a "vacation" and relive that magical time of calm and renewal. If you're struggling and looking for a beautiful, safe, and serene place to heal, I can't recommend Villa Kali Ma highly enough. It was a life-changing experience, and I'm forever grateful for the role it played in my recovery.

Montecatini Eating Disorder Treatment Center in Carlsbad, California, offers a huge array of services to help individuals find success in eating disorder recovery. Monte Catini was a place where, for the first time in a long time, I felt like I wasn’t just a diagnosis. My treatment team was incredible — supportive, attentive, and genuinely invested in my recovery. The director of nursing, especially, made a huge difference. She listened, she cared, and she helped me feel safe in a body that often didn’t. Most of the staff went above and beyond. I was surrounded by people who made me feel human again, and that mattered more than I can say. That’s why my discharge was so painful. When I spoke up about what I was struggling with — not to act on anything, but to ask for help — I was discharged. It felt like the decision came from fear, not from understanding. I wish the CEO had taken the time to hear me out, to collaborate on a plan instead of making me feel like I no longer belonged there. I didn’t want to leave. I was doing the hard work. I just needed more support — not a closed door. Despite how it ended, I’m still grateful for the care I received at Monte. I grew a lot during my time there, and many of the people I met left a lasting impact on me. I just wish I had been given the chance to stay and keep going.

Montecatini Review – by Kelley Goode Montecatini was, for me, a place of deep transformation, held together by a handful of truly extraordinary people. I came in uncertain, fragile, and afraid—but there were individuals there who showed up for me in powerful and lasting ways. Alixe, my therapist, was nothing short of phenomenal. Her ability to cut through the noise and get to the heart of things is a gift. She is fierce, insightful, and deeply compassionate—a force to be reckoned with. The work I did with her was some of the most meaningful therapy I’ve ever had, and I will carry it with me always. Janel, who served as one of the house moms, held such a loving and nurturing presence. Her warmth, humor, and grounded care made all the difference on hard days. I will be eternally grateful for her steady kindness and for the way she made the house feel like a safe place to land. Lexi is an intelligent and wise woman who clearly lives by her values. Natalie has a heart of gold while still being able to “throw down” when needed—fierce and loving in equal measure. Katie brings together wit, intelligence, and humor in a way that makes her instantly magnetic. Emily, although officially the exercise physiologist, could easily be a therapist with her deep ability to listen and truly hear people. Glee made me feel seen every single day, simply by saying hello each time we passed. Yasmine is elegance defined, with a wicked sense of humor that always made me smile. Dr. Morache is one of the kindest, funniest, most loving men I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting—an absolute gem in the field. The BHA team are the backbone of the program—dedicated, tireless, and deeply compassionate. The nurses bust their butts in a very hard situation, and their work deserves immense respect and recognition. Not everything was perfect—particularly the food, which often felt like an afterthought in an environment where nourishment is central to healing. But despite that, the human beings at Monte—those who truly show up—are what made the experience valuable. To those staff members who gave their full hearts: thank you. You helped me find parts of myself I thought I had lost.

For reasons I hope to one day understand, I have more experience with rehab facilities than most, certainly more than I care to think about. I drank alcoholically for years and had plenty of experience getting DUI’s. What I didn’t have was the self-honesty to accept I had a problem. After 12 years of trying with little success, the team at Present Moments moments helped me learn how to live an honest, sober life. It honestly didn’t happen on the first try for me, I’ve been met with a warm welcome back to PM more than once. Sometimes slowly, sometimes quickly - that’s what the Big Book of AA says. Today, with five years of sobriety, my life is beyond anything I ever dreamed could be mine. I took my 29 year old daughter to detox for heroine addiction for the first time at 15! She has been to 100’s of treatment facilities in the last 14 years, but can’t stay clean. Sometimes quickly, sometime slowly. My experience with her in the 3 years before she turned 18 was that maybe 1 in 10 treatment facilities can be trusted or has any integrity. Present Moments is the 1 in 10 without any doubt. Ask my 25 year old son what he thinks of PM, he’ll say they saved his life too. It’s a long story, but my son ended a 7 year daily 1/5th of vodka habit earlier this year, checked into PM with a 4.1 BAC I might add for color, spent 30 days there and just celebrated 6 months as a sober man. He says he was existing before, PM and Alcoholics Anonymous showed him how to live. In an industry full of ‘money first, care second’ and ‘one size fits all’ treatment centers, Mark and Amy put care first and somehow find a way to figure the rest out. I learned how to live a sober life in 6 months at the PM sober living house. I learned how to get honest and accept that I’m an alcoholic in 5 weeks at PM recovery. Amy even created a new supervisory program for me to get ongoing care and comply with a court order while living at home for 5 months. That’s what I mean by ‘figure the rest out.’ My sober son who now works at a local treatment facility, is a miracle that started at PM. My entire amazing life started with lessons I learned and help I received from the people at Present Moments Recovery. PM is a rare example of clinical excellence, unquestionable integrity, individualized care, and creative problem solving. 6 stars out of 5 for Present Moments Recovery

This is a very thorough program covering counseling, IOPs, and housing needs. Not only do they understand the patient, they are also very well connected in the recovery ecosystem and guide you to further steps as needed. They work with your needs, and also believe in second chances (can't be grateful enough for that!). Highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to find support for a loved one.

The staff here are great, and have actually been in the shoes of the people they help. The rehab is very thorough and they put a lot of effort into helping clients find themselves again. The IOP they own also helped me a lot and was great because of the social aspect of it and the facilitators. The sober living itself was great, I had some troubles with people stealing my food, which were eventually kicked out.

Restore is a miracle resource. I have been welcomed into its community with open arms, although I am not alumni of Restore. This place was great, I had a wonderful experience. It's low client, great staff and a safe place for when you truly need it. I specifically enjoyed the low client aspect of it. The groups feel personal and urges you to share and process things once you are done detoxing. Plus the house is beautiful and the property sits on top of a hill far away from any distractions so it is as quiet as North County SD can get. The owner is genuine and cares for your sobriety. Thank you restore and thank you Steven!

Wow, I am so grateful for Restore and the incredible team and their unconditional love! The home is beautiful and the view breathtaking, but the care, connection and joy of the team are the pillars of Restore. I have been to dozens of detox and treatments centers over the last 10 years and Restore is the first place that has helped me get to the heart of the matter- I cannot recover alone. Restore taught me how to work a simple AA program, give my fears away to my god, and speak my truth authentically to connect with others. Restore's program supported my recovery in all facets- mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. And one of the most amazing parts that NO other place offers- it is welcoming FOREVER to alumni! Steven's house meetings are the most powerful tool in my recovery toolbox. I go to Restore at least 2x a week for house meetings along with other alumni and have the joy of seeing Steven, staff, and alumni at outside AA meetings throughout the week. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Restore, for teaching me recovery is possible.

AToN saved my life, and I don't say that lightly as someone who completed their program two years ago and has stayed sober since. Dr. Kevin's approach to clinical care is unlike anything I encountered in years of outpatient therapy. He has a way of cutting through the noise and getting to what's actually driving the behavior, without ever making you feel judged or reduced. The group sessions, the holistic work, the food, the grounds - all of it creates an environment where healing doesn't just feel possible, it feels inevitable. If you're on the fence, please get off it. This place is the real thing.

I went through the program at AToN and it changed everything. The care, the setting, the people - there is nothing else like it. This disease is insidious - it's doing push-ups and waiting for us to take our guards down. Don't let it ruin your life like it tried to do to mine. I didn't let it and AToN helped me along the way. Thanks.

Kick ass, down to earth, mind , body and spiritual experience. Small program but individualized for personal growth. My trip there was some what short due to needing a higher level of care....but I will return for PHP and IOP. Elliot: Right from the first phone call, Elliot clearly articulated the therapeutic approach, making me feel confident. He emphasized both group and individual therapy, which was exactly what I needed. Nicholas: As a facilitator, psychologist, guru, and teacher led with experience . Nicholas felt like a guide, he helped me tune into my inner self, enabling me to make better decisions. His presence was transformative. Angel: Angel, my therapist, didn’t give me answers, she guided me inward. Her support was constant, and she advocated for my transition to a higher level of care. Megan: The bodybuilding doctor next door, Megan, got me moving! I wasn’t one for working out, but her energy and care had me feeling so good, I even attempted to give back by cleaning the windows. Lol I actually ruined the sticker with her logo and she took it with a grain of salt. I will replace it . (^-^) Every interaction was tailored, making this program truly special. I have learned so much and they allowed me to grow towards the goals I've wanted to have for years. Not at all the sit and be bored type of atmosphere. More like sit, share, breath, learn , walk, have fun, place to cry, safe place to be, and a spot where I got totally honest for the first time in many moons. I strive to be better by their guidance and compationate ways they have taught me what to do.

We are so grateful for the care our daughter received at Evolve Cole Ranch. She truly thrived, growing in confidence, accountability, and self-awareness. The facility is beautiful and creates a peaceful, healing environment. There’s also a positive, uplifting energy—it was important to us that treatment felt like support, not punishment, and Cole Ranch delivered. We especially appreciated the small group setting (only about six kids), which allows for individualized attention and meaningful peer connections. She benefited from both traditional therapy (individual, group, and family) and experiential therapies like equine and surf—she can’t wait to surf again! Most importantly, she left with real skills she’s already using at home. We’re incredibly proud of her and deeply thankful to the entire team—especially her therapist, Charlie, who seemed to know exactly how to connect with her. Ermias was great with and Rafa the chef made her laugh and smile. (I’m not sure I can compete with his cooking!). Thank you to everyone at Cole Ranch—you truly changed her life.

My daughter’s mental health symptoms showed up at age thirteen. It seemed like overnight we went from having a typical child who enjoyed spending time with family, playing with friends, reading books, going on outings to just wanting to die. It was a very scary and confusing place for our family. I tried and tried to find providers who could help her. She went to multiple providers and programs with little change. After our insurance changed, we were able to start treatment at Evolve. From the very beginning, I felt that we were in good hands. The staff are well trained and the program is well designed. My daughter’s behaviors and our family’s communication patterns changed dramatically. After four years of feelings as if I had lost my daughter, I have my daughter back. I’m grateful that the providers at Evolve have extensive knowledge and experience with teens with mental health issues, and we finally got the help we needed!

Evolve did wonders for our teen. I'm sure it's hard for them to get reviews as this is such a private matter. The whole process is utterly heartbreaking. You don't end up here because you wanna be here. That being said they worked with us as a family so well. I really liked that. They involve you in the treatment and try to ensure that you will have the tools necessary to help your child continue on their path of healing. The path is BUMPY, and it heartbreaking. I remember graduating out of program thinking I don't know if I am ready to do it without them. They helped us navigate tough topics and issues our teen would shut down on us with. Helped us see each other's sides. Helped our teen see themeself. When we graduated out were ok and we did move forward on our own. As a family we are so thankful for the staff at Evolve and the forever impact they have made on our child's life. The skills they shared, our kiddo still uses. Our kiddo really had a connection to the staff. There was also a pet lizard that meant a lot to our kiddo. There's so much I could say about this place. But the biggest is just two words FOREVER THANKFUL.

Finding the right help for my brother was one of the most stressful situations our family has ever faced. While searching for rehab in San Diego, I initially focused on detox San Diego options, and that search led me to Shoreline Recovery Center. Choosing this program turned out to be one of the best decisions we could have made. From the first phone call, the staff was patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely responsive. They explained the treatment process clearly and helped our family understand what effective drug treatment in San Diego and alcohol treatment in San Diego should involve. That transparency gave us confidence during a very uncertain time. Throughout my brother’s stay, communication with the family was consistent and respectful. It was clear he was receiving structured, professional care. What stood out most was the level of detail that went into discharge and aftercare planning. Shoreline provided thoughtful recommendations that included therapy, psychiatry, and step down options such as IOP in San Diego, which helped create a realistic path forward. Since completing treatment, the changes in my brother have been significant and encouraging. He is healthier, more stable, and actively engaged in his recovery. For families searching for addiction recovery San Diego, I would strongly recommend Shoreline Recovery Center.

We came to Shoreline Recovery Center after a long and exhausting search for help for our child. When researching rehab in San Diego, we were overwhelmed by options and conflicting information. Our initial focus was on finding a safe and reputable detox San Diego program, and Shoreline was recommended during that process. Choosing them turned out to be a pivotal decision. What stood out immediately was the level of organization and professionalism. The intake process was thorough, expectations were clearly explained, and questions were addressed promptly. It was evident that the program has a strong foundation in evidence based drug treatment in San Diego, rather than relying on vague promises or one size fits all approaches. During treatment, we observed consistent structure and accountability, which was reassuring as a parent. The program emphasized responsibility, clinical oversight, and forward planning. The discharge process was especially well thought out, with practical aftercare guidance that included therapy coordination and PHP San Diego options, helping ensure continuity rather than abrupt transition. Since completing treatment, our child has maintained stability and direction, which we attribute in large part to the planning and expectations set during care. For parents navigating addiction recovery San Diego, Shoreline Recovery Center offers a level of professionalism and follow through that is difficult to find.

The fellowship was excellent, the classes were informative and well organized, my case manager rocked, and my therapist was extremely helpful. West Coast provided me the tools to feel confident about living sober. I can’t thank them enough.

This place brought me hope, healing and insight into the complexity of what I was going through. Not only was I able to see the underlining issues I had internally, but I was also taught about the workings of the brain which I don’t think a lot of people know about. You can really get a feel for how much the staff truly cares about recovery. It’s obvious that this line of work is something they pour out their hearts into and that it’s not just a job to gain a paycheck. The facility is more of a home setting with a limit of 6 clients so the care is personal, intimate and in depth. The food is amazing with a fantastic chef that cooks daily meals for the 6 clients. My therapist was pure gold. Firm to call me on my B.S (thank God because I needed this)but also super caring and able to lead me to uncover things about myself I don’t think many people could. All your personal outside life responsibilities and issues will be taken care of through a great case manager. He will work along side of you to make sure your covered while your there and set up for success when you leave. You will leave feeling like you have been adopted into a family!!

I came here for recovery and detox after some traumatic events occurred for my very first admission. This place is fantastic. All my needs were met and not once did I fear for my life. Here you are in good hands with the ever so kind, hardworking, and diligent staff. The home you stay in has individual rooms which is a HUGE plus being that you get your own privacy. The food is absolutely fantastic, and the rules that are in set in place are for your own personal safety. You will have freedom to explore the beautiful property here in San Diego and even get out and explore some of the beautiful attractions around the area multiple times during the week. On top of the medical expertise, delicious food, and the fantastic staff. You will also receive the best therapy one can possibly hope for. You will leave here with all the tools needed to continue a beautiful life of sobriety. 10/10 recommend. Please do come and see it through. You won't regret it :)

. I read many of the reviews here and the negative comments seemed to come from people who are either recovery Nazis -bashing MAT services- or people who may have had a personal grudge. If you try some of the other places from San Marcos or Escondido, youll have no doubt, this is the most compassionate and most professionally run clinic in North county, if not the entire San Diego region. Other clinics can keep you waiting for well over an hour because the nurses are either at lunch, or too busy. Also, security keeps the parking lot clean and safe from the homeless drug dealers, where other places simply ignore the problem. SOAP MAT cares and it shows!

Food was amazing Staff was great! Very small and intimate you don’t have to worry about dealing with the extra drama that comes with large facilities. Your literally living in a mansion on the hills with a group of ppl that will quickly become your friends who comes from all over. Out of all the facilities I’ve been to this is def the best especially if your older and prefer to be around more mature individuals. There was never a strict schedule for fresh air or smoking, nor eating. The chef came in 6 days a week and your free to enter the kitchen. They had a little snatch bar as well that’s stocked full of great snacks and a fresh pop corn machine. This my stay was the winter to spring months of 2019 I’m pretty sure it prob hasn’t changed much. Oh and the rooms are amazing I never had to share a room it included a walk in closet and amazing bathroom with great vanity that I never had to share!!

After struggling with addiction, I made one of the best decisions of my life. Checked in 11-20-2021 and checked out 12-19-2021. The house was comfortable and welcoming. Watching the sunsets from the backyard was like a postcard. It was nice to have a pool and hot tub. Would have been nice to have exercise equipment. I liked the small atmosphere. The maximum clients is six. Made some great friends. The staff was amazing, minus a couple of people. My case manager was there to help me with anything I needed from filling out FMLA, filing Short Term Disability, setting up aftercare, and everything inbetween. The groups were informational. We were taught how to live a life of sobriety. The seven hour daily groups got monotonous towards the end. The therapist left some to be desired. She was very nice, but we didn't learn much about CBT or DBT. I was looking forward to having a therapist for the first time, but I only ended up getting an hour one on one session the thirty days I was there. The food was fantastic. Pete, Dom and Amy are great chefs. I gained twenty pounds! Two months sober and looking forward to many more. I highly recommend California Highlands Vistas if you're struggling with addiction.

This place is predatory, as in they are money hungry and prey on addicts under the guise of helping them. They are only friendly to you when you are paying them; anytime after that, they will treat you with disrespect and intimidation. They use outdated statistical information and attempt to brainwash you into being dependent on them. While there is a lot of useful information and services they can direct you toward, this third party company is only interested in taking your money and treating you as less-than-human. In my experience, Dale Walters, the in-take coordinator and class teacher, was only friendly toward me when I was paying him money for the program. Afterward, he treated me with disrespect by insulting me in front of the rest of the class, talking to me as if I were five years old and consistently disregarding my personal space by knocking over my water bottle and saying, "oh, I don't care about anything beneath my knees." This has been my experience and I hope it helps shed light on the poor practices of this company and its employees.

I stayed here for a week in December 2025. I read reviews on my ambulance ride over because I had never been in a psychiatric hospital and was terrified, and the reviews made me even more scared, but I really enjoyed my stay at Aurora. I was the only female in an all-male unit, which was scary at first but all the nurses were so nice and helpful, and the men were very respectful and kind. I was placed in the SUDS unit (for detox) since the MOOD unit (usually mental health) was full, so I got to sit in some sobriety groups with the men, which was also very informative and educational. We did music therapy, got to watch tv and listen to music in the small rec room, and I was able to join processing groups that were really helpful. The food was great too, breakfast wasn’t the best but dinner was usually really good, and the nurses would let us bring food back to our unit and store in their fridge, which was so kind. We asked the nurses to go outside and if they were nice, would take people out for smoke breaks for about 10 minutes too. The only reason they get 4/5 stars is because the communication with clinicians kind of sucks. I was there on a voluntary stay and was told I was free to go when I pleased, but apparently doctors are less inclined to discharge people on the weekends since it’s a long process. I ended up having to stay for a week instead of only 4 days, which gave me a sense of being trapped there and I had a hard time accepting it. The processing groups helped me cope with it, but I wish it had been better communicated.

My son (12) had a problem with his old medication and needed to find a new medication that would help him. The personnel told me how polite my son was, and my son said nothing but great things about the hospital personnel. Dr Grozavu was patient and kind. Cynthia, our nurse, helped us with letters for notification that are helping us a lot through this process (they went above and beyond to help us). Aurora was a place we needed. My son feels better, gaining confidence about his health, social skills, and he also got excited about music, art, and education again. He also liked the food. My son did his best to be kind and polite, and I know it can be hard to remain this way when in a crisis. I know Aurora is there to help as much as they can. You have to be open, honest, and communicate constantly so they can be able to help you the way you need to, as every person is different. I wish you all the best recovery.

Decided to go to VA for the very first time as I have had private care since I got out of the Navy. Besides mediocre bedside manners it wasn't too bad. Their people skills need improvements, it's a stale environment, it just took me back to my Navy days, kind of triggered my memories of my medical visits when I was active duty. it was oddly familiar... The gal that took my intake was kind but again it just felt cold and blah.. I saw a NP and she had a heavy accent, she asked questions and gave me some referrals so I am happy that she listened. We shall see how the care is afterwards. Not too, too bad for the first time.
