About Chapters Capistrano | San Clemente Drug & Alcohol Addiction Rehab

Chapters Capistrano, located in San Clemente, California, is a luxury detox and residential alcohol and drug rehab program that provides addiction treatment to men and women seeking recovery. They also provide treatment for those living with co-occurring disorders.

The detox program lasts for up to ten days. Clients are medically monitored and supported throughout the whole process. Measures are taken to help reduce the burden on the body and the psyche, and as much comfort as possible will be provided.

Chapters Capistrano provides 24/7 supervision in a safe and supportive environment. Clients may stay in the residential program for up to 90 days. Time is spent exploring the root cause of addiction while supporting individuals in learning coping skills that will allow them to prosper in their recovery.
As the residential treatment program comes to an end, clients often are referred to an outpatient treatment center to continue mental health and addiction treatment services.

Chapters Capistrano accepts most insurance plans, including HCSC, Tricare, Ambetter, Humana, Becon, Wellmark, Amerigroup, and more. Out-of-network benefits may vary, so individuals are encouraged to contact the provider before starting treatment.

Chapters Capistrano was hands down the best treatment I’ve been to, mind you I’ve been in treatment three times prior. Group/individual therapy proved to be very effective. The food, activities, and outside meetings were phenomenal. I want to give a shout out to Ligi, Jessica, Matthew, Raif, Savannah, Hans, Sarah, and Michael. You all truly saved me from a dark place and brought me into the light. From the bottom of my heart Thank you all. Chapters Capistrano saved my life.

Just back from a 21 day stay at the Chapters Beach House and I can definitely say it was a transformative experience! I was a 3 time dropout of a local outpatient program and didn't want to go to the "institutional" type of inpatient programs that lock you away like a prisoner and you get outside a few mins a day to smoke. Being from the East Coast, the warm and sunny environment of Orange County definitely helped (i spent A LOT of time on the deck and/or in the hot tub just relaxing, thinking, reflecting, planning for individual/group sessions, or doing workbook assignments for the next day), but it was the overall experience that made a difference. The small group setting of a max of 6 clients allowed me to develop strong bonds with people I consider lifelong connections and family. The clinical staff, especially Ligi, Jess, and Michael are amazing. They each get 20 out of 5 stars! I specifically want to recognize a few of the operations staff - Raif, Tyler, and Edith - with whom I spent a lot of time and credit each of them for being a huge part of my positive experience. I also want to thank Teresa, the Executive Director, who took the time one evening to have a conversation with me about some feedback I wanted to provide to enhance the client experience for future clients. Thanks again to the folks I called out above. I miss you all and don't plan to see you ever again..unless we pass each other on the street! :-)

Chapters Capistrano | San Clemente Drug & Alcohol Addiction Rehab works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Fitness therapy blends exercise with psychotherapy for a fun, inspiring, and effective way of treating addiction and other issues. By incorporating movement into counseling sessions, clients become more empowered, motivated, and goal-oriented, all while strengthening their bodies and becoming more flexible. Fitness Therapy is usually used to complement a course of treatment (inpatient or outpatient) to make it even more successful. Increasing the connection between a patient’s mind and body helps both with healing as well as in creating new, healthy habits.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I recently had the experience of staying at Chapters Capistrano and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I was greeted when I arrived and felt at home very quickly as I was anxious to arrive for my first time. The facility was clean and very comfortable and truly gave me the best setting for the healing I required. The therapists and counselors saved my life. They helped me get through my childhood trauma and gave me all the tools to heal. I appreciated the variety of activities they offered- yoga, kayaking, gym membership, acupuncture, and my beach days. It was huge for me to take a break from all the hard work I was putting and just relax. I am so grateful for the support and guidance I received during my time at Chapters Capistrano and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to change their life for the better. Special shout out to Jon Aicher for his dedication and operational leadership to make this the experience what it has been and to Michael my therapist I’m going to miss you. You have changed my life. Thank you to the entire team for helping me on this journey to my recovery. TW

Chapters Capistrano was the most ideal luxurious and effective place that I have experienced rehab. I loved how we were treated as adults. The counselors and therapists are top-notch. They really gave me perspective that I never thought I could get on the fifth try. Every room is luxurious in its own way. The patio with its view of the Sunset Enhanced my healing. My counselor was Lingi And she took personal Interest in me and Made me feel safe and confident, and that my problems were genuine and guided me through some very dark days. I love the BHT’s, including Bobbi Edith, Tim, Jose and Matt. We saw the upper management many times and they did make changes when we asked. I highly recommend Capistrano if you are trying to make a decision out of your heart and your mind.

This “facility” is like a home! Most all people I interfaced with were knowledgeable as well as kind I feel much better mentally and physically Now that I’ve returned to my home residence ~ Thank God. The less than positive was that I didn’t know the ropes of a detox facility~ Sometimes I felt like there were too many cooks in the kitchen regarding medication and changing of medication plural, but I would say if you picked this place, you’ve done a great locating an Awesome place The staff like their work which is very important. Start your process(es) at Capistrano!
