About UF Health Florida Recovery Center

UF Health Florida Recovery Center is in the Florida city of Gainesville. It’s a substance use disorder treatment facility operated by the University of Florida. They’re staffed with addiction medicine specialists that include licensed behavioral health counselors and psychiatrists.

Clients struggling with addiction can receive psychological testing, medical consultations and comprehensive labs. The levels of care offered include inpatient alcohol and drug detox and the partial hospitalization program.

Long Term Structured Treatment

The partial hospitalization program provides clients with addiction treatment seven days a week. While PHP is typically an outpatient program, at this facility, you’ll be allowed to stay in a living area on campus and be expected to maintain it as your own home.

You’ll practice living skills such as cooking and shopping along with participating in new leisure and recreational activities. The campus has a swimming pool, a basketball court, a pickleback court, and other outdoor options. Some unique attractions that can be enjoyed in Gainesville include visiting the Florida Museum and or going to Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park.

Your treatment will consist of a mixture of evidence based therapies and holistic therapies. Counselors use approaches such as dialectical behavioral therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy to teach clients how to regulate their emotions and change negative beliefs that hinder their recovery. Along with those therapies, your treatment may also include morning medication and life skills groups.

Safe Medically Supervised Detox

This facility has 18 licensed hospital beds available. Clients struggling with withdrawal symptoms can receive medically supervised drug or alcohol detox. You’ll be monitored by physicians, addiction therapists and nurses who will provide you with behavioral and medication therapies for a safe detox.

This is the worst facility ever, they are money driven, and that s all they care about. They do not care about your well-being or your recovery. I m so glad I made the decision to go elsewhere, 7 summits In Tampa, changed my life. Please do not waste your time or money trying to go here, you will regret it, as soon as your insurance stops paying they kick you out, they will tell you a certain amount of days, but as long as your insurance keeps paying, they will keep you there. I do not recommend this place at all. I would not recommend my dog here. They cater to caucasians as well

Grateful for FRC, the men s community, and the talented Doctors (Dr Titlebaum, Dr Smollen), and the therapist. I came in as a broken individual, and left with hope and working a recovery program. If you have a problem, and want to get sober, this is the place to be at.

Accepted Insurance

UF Health Florida Recovery Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are a collection of highly individualized services designed to promote long-term recovery. These services evolve as your needs change. Case managers and recovery teams typically begin formulating the rehab aftercare service plan early in the recovery process to facilitate your reintegration back into the home, workplace, and community.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs support recovery through emotional, psychological, and spiritual development to address the root causes of addiction. These programs are peer directed, with participants regularly attending 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and accessible day and night, year-round. Recovery is based on "working the steps" to understand the source of addiction, take accountability for one's life choices, and relinquish control for that which cannot be changed. Age-specific, gender-separate, and other specialized programs are widely available.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Florida is an essential part of treatment, particularly with medical detox. Withdrawal symptoms can be severe, and supervised detox provides around the clock access to medical professionals who can adminsiter proper medications and treatment to address these symptoms and step in should an emergency occur. This intensive clinical care will help curb the withdrawal effects, minimize substance dependence, and prepare you for the next step of treatment.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Therapists who apply cognitive behavioral therapy in Florida believe patient thoughts and behaviors are closely linked. They use this treatment method to help clients change their thought patterns so they can also change behaviors and break free from substance abuse.

Dialectical behavior therapy in Florida consists of individual therapy and group instruction. This structured program is a form of psychotherapy that incorporates the development of skills for managing emotions and relationships.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

As a short term therapeutic method, motivational interviewing in Florida requires only a couple of sessions. During these sessions, you'll have the opportunity to talk about your circumstances and any discrepancies between your current situation and future goals. You'll then decide for yourself what changes you want to make.

Trauma therapy helps you work through the psychological impact that traumatic events have had on your life. Your therapist helps you identify the physical, emotional, and mental triggers and develop coping mechanisms. This helps rebuild a sense of safety and trust in yourself and others.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills are the core skills you need for daily success. They can include self care, stress management, daily routines, and emotion control. Rehab treatment includes the development of these skills so you have the tools you need for long term recovery.

Sure! Here’s the revised review: ⸻ I cannot say enough about the life-changing care I received at UF Health Florida Recovery Center. After completing an 86-day PHP-level inpatient treatment, I can confidently say this program is second to none in providing comprehensive, compassionate, and evidence-based addiction treatment. From day one, I felt truly supported by a team of dedicated professionals who understood the complexities of addiction, especially as it affects healthcare providers. The multidisciplinary approach—including expert medical care, therapy, group work, and therapeutic assignments—helped me rebuild my life from the ground up. The structured programming, combined with individualized treatment planning, made all the difference in my recovery journey. The emphasis on long-term sobriety, emotional wellness, and spiritual growth set this program apart. I left not only with the tools to maintain recovery but also with a renewed sense of purpose, confidence, and hope for the future. If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, I wholeheartedly recommend UF Health Florida Recovery Center. This place saved my life, and I will forever be grateful.

The staff of the Florida Recovery Center changed my life. The treatment team is comprised of top level experts in the field of addiction treatment, the therapist are engaged and caring. My time at FRC laid a solid foundation for sustained recovery and provided me with the necessary resources and tools to achieve this goal. I found the treatment to be challenging at times and encouraged my own growth. I can honestly state that at discharge I was a better, healthier version of myself and had achieved significant personal growth during my treatment. Like most of life you get out of any treatment or training what you put into it. I was resistive at first like many but learned to trust the process and engage the opportunity FRC presented me with. Today I can truly say that my time at FRC was some of the most profoundly impactful of my life and that the treatment team saved my life. They gave me the tools and keys to escape the hellation I had been living with.

If you are a person with even just a little integrity, this is not a place for you. The psychiatrists are not there to help you, but to show you that they have power over you and you can do nothing about it. You'll need therapy to heal the trauma they cause for the rest of your life.

The program is mostly put together great minus a few glitches. The therapists there are very good and the group sessions were great and I got a lot out of them. Thank you for all your help

The staff are highly trained, caring and professional, like all UF facilities. They work hard to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help people on their journeys through recovery. Staff are not afraid to share their own experiences. The physicians and staff are adept at addressing a persons spiritual needs on whatever level that may be. They provide useful educational lectures about the science behind addiction, recovery, personality traits, and they integrate the family into a patient’s care. They allow safe level of personal freedoms.
