About The Emily Program

The Emily Program’s Durham, North Carolina, location offers residential treatment for those with eating disorders who also have co-occurring substance abuse or mental health disorders. They have a really interesting holistic approach that I liked that offers a more contemporary and homelike setting for adults both male and female.

Their 24/7 care will give you onsite access to nurses who can supervise you and monitor you medically. Their team of medical professionals including therapists, physicians and dietitians can give you personalized support with therapy, nutritional counseling and experiential activities.

Their program incorporates group psychotherapy by using cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and other evidence-based modalities of treatment. Their family therapy plays a big role because it involves loved ones who may not understand you or your condition as well as they’d like to. Their nutrition therapy can help restore your physical health and give you a better understanding of your relationship with food and how it’s affecting you.

You’ll get checked up on whenever you need with their regular physician checkups. And if you’re a resident you can enjoy their experiential activities too, like cooking, grocery shopping, and dining out, which will give you a chance to learn real world coping skills. They also have expressive arts and movement therapy that can offer you a creative outlet to explore your emotions, as well as reducing your anxiety and reconnecting with your body.

Some of their amenities include healthy meals, onsite laundry, wifi, and cozy common areas. The Emily program gives you a lot of services that can make a big difference in your recovery.

DO NOT TRUST STACI FROM ATL OR CHAERON FROM NORTH CAROLINA. Staci told me my move in date was Aug 6th. She then lied to Chaeron and said she never told me that date. That lie cost me thousands of dollars due to Chaeron believing her over me. So disorganized. Do no trust North Carolina lodging.

Formally known as veritas collaborative, the absolute worst facility ever!!! I would not send my rat here if it wasn't eating. the staff don't care about the patients they have the same staff that's suppose to give meal "support" leading groups. the therapist don't hardly lead groups or if they do they are late we don't learn anything new it's the same stuff over and over there is nothing therapeutic about being here, it actually made my eating disorder worse. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Y'all parents be wary, now. I was an adolescent in PHP (repeat offender), and they will give the patients much more percent completion than the patients actually did on meals just to have things over fast. That affects the team making their decisions. Be involved in your kid's treatment. Overall, this place is helpful for treatment, with quality staff but a noticeable amount of staff turn over, usually people in their younger twenties supervising us. We get away with stuff. A dietitian gave a vegetarian a blog post as a credible source once, and a girl was vaping here once. Not common, though. Have somewhere else for your kid to talk, too, since there is a lot of limits on what we can say in groups here, in light of triggers. You get to choose what you get out of treatment here, because there's wiggle room to sneak under the radar in PHP (trust me, you do not want to go to res), so put your all in to get your all out.

Accepted Insurance

The Emily Program works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

I have went here when it was Veritas multiple times as an adolescent. It was a terrible experience. They did not really give true individualized are that really helped and seemed more focused on making profit. After RES at TEP in Atlanta, GA, I transitioned to TEP here in Durham. PHP was nice compared to RES because I wasn't beyond bored and could leave at 2:30 pm all days except Saturday, where we left about an hour earlier (after at least a month or two, the same weekly schedule can get boring). The staff are INCREDIBLY receptive to feedback. In community meeting, if you need supplies, next week there will be supplies. I was not the person requesting, but as someone who has been to about seven different facilities throughout the last eight years, this facility had the most receptive staff I've seen. The staff do care about you and many of the patients were kind (during my stay at least). IOP was about the same as PHP, you just go to programming four days a week and are expected to be there around 8 and leave at 11:30 (unless you have an appointment). I know everyone's treatment and case is individual. However, out of every treatment I've been to, I feel like this program is actually solid. Certainly not perfect, but it got the job done for me. And my dietician was and is fantastic because she actually understands and challenges me.

This place is amazing. Its a great place if you actually commit to recovery all the staff are kind and welcoming. They all give support and or tone down situations by thinking of both sides. I love how everything is made to the point where triggers are NOT brought up and if they are then its by accident! This place is amazing and helps all disorders (arfid, anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, anorexia, and BED)

I was afraid I was too far gone to get better, but this place gave me hope. The care, kindness, and dedication of the staff helped me see that recovery was not just possible, but worth it. I left with the skills and confidence to maintain a healthy relationship with food and with myself.

Response from the owner

Coming here was one of the hardest decisions I’ve made, but also the best. The outpatient program allowed me to stay in school while getting the support I needed. My therapist was incredible—so patient and understanding. I never felt judged, only encouraged. I’ve learned so much about myself, and I finally feel like recovery is possible!

The care my daughter received was amazing. The therapists truly understand the challenges that teenagers face, and they took the time to connect with her. The group therapy sessions were a great way for her to meet others going through the same thing, which helped her feel less alone.

Response from the owner
Your kind words brighten our day! Our mission is to provide compassionate and effective care, and knowing we met your expectations is truly heartening. Thank you for your thoughtful feedback.

Veritas (now known as the Emily Program) was a horrible experience, the staff was abusive, inconsiderate of triggers, didn’t meet our needs, joked around about ED related things, talked negatively about bodies, and didn’t take their job or us seriously. Some of the TA’s were great, and the nurses did tend to be good, unless they were day nurses - they were lazy about their job and acted like we were a burden. (I miss you Tanea and Kiara, y’all were the best) Maria, the psychiatrist, she was passive aggressive and rude, she acted inconvenienced by me refusing to get the tube placed, wasn’t patient and overall acted like I was the biggest burden and disgrace and disappointment. Honestly the food was good, the chefs were so nice, polite and did an amazing job. I hope some of these “professionals” left, because they’re not trained enough apparently to work with individuals with ED’s, it’s a lot more work than they think, a lot more time and effort, kindness and compassion. (Oh I can’t forget Madison :) you’re amazing) please for the sake of recovery and protecting yourself, find somewhere else to invest your money and time in, it’s not worth it to go here.
