If you are serious about your recovery and want a team of people to support you then this is an amazing place to help you get your life together. Most of the staff are in recovery themselves so they know all to well how real the struggles are. If you're not too serious about your recovery then they will still help push you towards sobriety but you get what you put into it (as in many things in life). I know this place has probably saved my life. More than once. I will forever be grateful and highly suggest Freedom House to anyone struggling with their own addiction and/or mental health issues.

They offer supervised medical treatment to safely manage withdrawal symptoms during detoxific | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I’ve been living here for over a month now and have had a fantastic experience so far. I love the proximity to campus (~3 stops away from the health sciences buildings) and that there’s a bus stop right out front! I also really like my apartment- there is ample space and light, and additions like the breakfast bar and newer kitchen make it a great place to live. Maintenance is insanely fast to fix anything, even though I haven’t had any big issues. The office staff is absolutely amazing, and part of the reason I chose to live here. Isvela was wonderful when I was touring virtually from another country, walking all around the property to show me the amenities and answering lots of questions over email and in person when I moved in. Ian also goes above and beyond- he even helped me with a maintenance issue on a weekend, which was way outside of his job description. The people here are just that kind. I haven’t had any bug issues, which I was a little worried about in Chapel Hill, and I love that Morgan Creek Trail runs right beside the property for walks/runs! There aren’t many places left in Chapel Hill with the combination of amenities and value that Kingswood has, and I recommend this community wholeheartedly.

Overall I had a positive experience living at Kingswood. Coming from DC, I absolutely felt safe living in these apartments, which was a big win for me. They are well priced for what you get and just an easy place to live. I had some pipe issues, including ants coming from the toilet (I lived on the bottom floor) and a busted pipe behind my kitchen sink which made it fairly hard to use the kitchen for a few weeks, but overall, compared to other places I have lived, this was great. No big frills, but it overall was a very positive experience and if I moved back to Chapel Hill, I'd look there first, but maybe at one of the units that has a bit less stairs. The complex is on the free bus line that takes you directly to campus, so very great for students as well.

Having been to other inpatient facilities, I was very disappointed by Carolina House's program. Disorganized. Untrained and unequipped staff. House needs major repairs. Ineffective groups. Recently under went a change in clinical directors so the program is in disarray. Two therapists left in my month 1/2 stay. I do not recommend this facility.
Well, the Carolina House only scored high marks for the contractors who offered a limited amount of treatment modalities. The worst is their poor medication hand-offs and absolute incompetence - one of whom looked like she was 80 and was completely insensitive when I was having a panic attack. She dismissed it and said I could not possibly be having a panic attack because I was still breathing. What in the world. Their psychiatrist Dr. Foreman was equally as incompetent and i did not appreciate that I had to suffer through my allergies, inflicted by her dogs because she won't leave them when she's argumentatively trying to help people. Look, Dr. Foreman have ever considered doggy day care - my dog goes? Their CEO, Jessica was completely clueless as to how to address their operational issues to which she confirmed there were communication issues. And while contractors, particularly the yoga specialist who was excellent. Some cancelled last minute or simply left without any communication. From what I understand, their mental health program has only been in place for ten months. If I'm a lab rat then compensate me, please. Recent good news is that they are shutting down due decreased revenue. I've found a more stellar and highly rated inpatient practice in Florida where you receive equine therapy, acupuncture and so much more for almost half the price this organization charges. I was actually in a better space before coming to their facility as we watched in horror how they discharged people due to insurance, police and ems in sight to take patients away, witnessing another patient who tripped on their throw rug because the lip was coming up, and just so much more - this is a situation that they were well aware of. They served unhealthy food to us from their eating disorder clinic, to save money. If they do reopen Acadia needs to reconsider its current leadership and especially Dr. Foreman who couldn't offer a proper diagnosis and chastised me for wanting more visits - she said only billionaires receive that type of care - well lady my $40,000 cost should have given me much more than I received. I plan to report her to the NC Medical Board. She's the worst psychiatrist that I've ever seen! Oh and their website is inaccurate. While they do have a fancy estate for overflow, we were swiftly removed in the morning because this place really serves as office space their employees; however, proper use of this estate could actually help people.

Wonderful facility and supportive staff! As a new member of the City of Raleigh's Community Engagement Board, I want to learn more about organizations serving our community members. I chose Healing Transitions' Women's Campus as my first site visit because I live nearby and I wanted to see what my neighbors who are experiencing homelessness have access to. I had the opportunity to meet staff and received an amazing tour by Carol, a peer-mentor (former program participant), who guided me through the entire facility and shared information about the programs available at the Women's Campus. The location is beautifully situated in a canopy of trees with several outdoor amenities for gathering. When I arrived, without an appointment, I was greeted by, Kristin, another former program participant, who connected me with Kathy Worley, Women's Planning Room Team Lead.
Kathy shared information about the primary services offered: Long-term recovery program, emergency drop-in shelter, and non-medical detox. They provide on-demand shelter and non-medical detox services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Both serve as entry points for the recovery program, but direct entry into the program is possible if detox is not necessary. Two days a week a nurse and physician provide medical triage for various conditions. Healing Transitions also offers a family support program (open to family, friends, and loved ones) and they have outreach efforts lead by their Rapid Responders who are state-certified, peer support specialists. This group of specialists build relationships and connect people in Wake Co. to life-saving resources within 24 - 72 hours of overdosing.
I would recommend individuals seeking services and those that care about someone experiencing homelessness and/or substance use to contact Healing Transitions. I also recommend local businesses and individuals to make contributions (e.g., financial contributions, provide in-kind services, or volunteer) to support this local organization. Healing Transitions is a registered nonprofit and all donations are tax deductible. I would also suggest community organizations, businesses, or other groups inquire about renting their beautiful board and community rooms. The spaces have amazing views of the wooded property and are easily accessible from the facility's private parking lot.
Thank you very much for allowing me to visit with staff and program participants as well as for the insightful tour! I look forward to sharing information about opportunities at the Healing Transitions' Women's Campus and will see if I can learn more about the Men's Campus in Downtown Raleigh, next!

I attended the evening program IOP for several weeks at Pasadena Villa before giving up. The program is disorganized and run by some very junior therapists with little experience. They teach their curriculum in an ongoing cycle and add people as slots become free. This makes very little sense for the patients. Depending on when you start in the cycle, the lessons revolve around skills you have yet to learn and there is no attempt to catch you up on what you miss. It is like you are doing homework for skills you haven’t been taught yet. The program is straight DBT and goes directly from a DBT workbook. There is no attempt at teaching any other modalities even though the administrators stressed that the program was a combination of CBT and DBT. The evening program was supposed to be 3 hours but was usually only about 2 hours or less of actual lessons. The therapists would just read straight from their workbook lesson without any real deviation. So it was often like attending a series of dry lectures. If the group was losing interest or not participating, the therapists really had no clue on how to adjust to increase engagement. They would just give up and send people home early, often 30-40 minutes early. This was especially frustrating since they refused to cover the skills sessions that had been taught earlier because they needed to “follow the curriculum.” Individual sessions with the therapists were usually 10 minutes or less and any needs I expressed were ignored. I was even scoffed at once. If you are considering the evening program, I would save yourself the time and money and just buy a DBT handbook.

Durham, NC | Carolina House is a behavioral health treatment center in Durham, North Carolina. They’re most well known for their eating disorder treatment, but they have mental health treatment, too, including drug and alcohol addiction care. The addiction recovery and mental health program here is a residential rehab. They work with clients ages 18 and old | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I greatly benefitted from my 4 week stay at Carolina House. While it was not perfect (no place is), I would definitely go back in the future if needed. One thing to note: I almost didn't go because the sample schedule they send you looks packed full from morning to night. This is definitely not the case. There's far more break time than group time. In fact, groups are frequently cancelled and are often shorter than the allotted time (which was my biggest complaint while there, since I had come in hopes of an intensive therapy experience). That said, the groups are mostly helpful and the staff were usually pleasant. The house is clean and comfortable and the back deck is nice when the weather permits.

Carolina House saved my life. I am forever grateful for my amazing therapist, Marisa, and dietician, Sarah, who worked extremely hard to help me reach my goals. CH was flexible with my needs and made me feel safe and comfortable. With any treatment center, there were flaws. You have to be motivated and willing to do the work independently as at times the supervision is limited. I was exposed to many new foods that I previously would have never tried! Shout out to Kenly for all the variety. 1:1 Exposures, restaurant outings, and weekend outings made you feel more “normal” in a stressful situation. The BHA’s were always there when needed, even in the middle of the night. Nursing never made me feel like a burden or uncomfortable when talking about health concerns. The homelike setting made it easier to carry over skills when I was discharged. Be brave and do the next right thing.

This facility saved my life. I don't have enough good words to say about Carolina House. Staff were so great. I had a wonderful therapist (Anna) and a great dietitian (Emma). I was challenged in ways I didn't realized I need to be challenged in. I left in such a good place in my recovery thanks to Carolina House. There are definitely problems with the facility but there is no perfect facility. There might be some problems but the good outweighs the bad. You do need to be in a place where you want recovery as this program is meant for those with self-accountability.
