The main entrance is on the right side of the buildings. When you walk in, there is the main waiting room with the receptionist area to check in. There are a few books and magazines to dad while waiting. Children’s artwork decorate the walls in addition to the required documents that need to be posted. There is an additional waiting room in another straight to the back when you walk in. That is the best waiting room if you’re there for medication management, which is virtual. STILL clean!!! still love metro-and completely credit them for my sobriety… reading these words i wrote years ago brought genuine tears to my eyes. they saved me This place has saved my life. When I arrived I had nothing and no one. I was doing over a gram of heroin a day, I was homeless. I had done some things and had things done to me that I think back on now and can’t believe I survived it. But metro and my counselors helped me become myself again. I had forgotten how funny I was and how much I loved to read and draw. I forgot how much I loved to travel and eat!! I forgot who I was and metro reminded me that I was a real person who deserved a good life. I d had two counselors both have played such a huge roll in my life. Preston has been at metro for years first as a wonderful security guard (who saved me once when I passed out when pregnant due to dehydration) and to this day we talk nearly every day now that he’s my counselor!! Sometimes we talk about life always about sobriety but also the happiness of how far I’ve come. All the things I didn’t think I deserved, metro helped me erase that thinking and then helped me push for everything I’ve always wanted. I want to say I haven’t touched heroin in over 5 years thanks to the help of metro and my counselors. They encouraged me to get clean and get a job that I’ve now finished school for and have now become a certified eye technician studying to become a COA. I’ve been able to take my daughter on vacations and keep a beautiful roof over our heads. Metro even helped repair my relationship with my family... with my permission even brought my mother in so we could all talk privately and give my mother more understanding of a world she knew nothing about other than drugs taking her daughter away. Metro is my safe place. I’ve shed tears, laughter, sadness and happiness under that roof. I got better in that building and it will always have such a special place in my heart. If u actually wanna get clean and not just use it bc u can’t find anything else than the place is good plus since getting a new head nurse “that we needed so bad” n when Anna was the director things have gotten much better. even tho Anna is not there anymore she got it together and it seems like the new director is following her lead, the only bad thing I can say about Baart is if someone skips line or being disrespectful and you say something then I would be punished by holding my take homes over my head while the other person who started the mess has no take home’s receive no kinda punishment. I had my daughter while I was there. I wasnt the easiest client to deal with. I gave them hell. Had a horrible attitude. Was so ungrateful. Looking back im so grateful for this program. They took me in with just the clothes on my back, got me hooked up with medicaid and foodstamps as well as a strong support system within the program. They offer parenting classes, therapy, child therapy, case workers, they house you while you are there and make sure you have somewhere safe to stay when you leave. I was allowed an extension by 2 months just to make sure I had somewhere to go since I was homeless when I came in. The staff are stern in policy but they truly care! They wouldn't be in this if they didnt! That's for sure! My daughter will be 10 in a couple months and I catch myself using the things I learned in parenting classes I took here before she was even born! I stop by there from time to time hoping to see some of the workers that were there when I was, and there are still several there!. Im forever grateful for unc horizons and I would highly suggest this place to any mother who is truly ready to get their life back! My therapist and psychiatrist are always there when I need them. I don't have to worry about making sure that I have a ride to get to and from my appointments, the virtual visits are very convenient, especially when you're a single parent. They work around the minor inconveniences when you have kids in the background yelling for you. They don't keep you on the phone any longer than needed, when you're the only parent taking care of them. The patient portal is very convenient as well, especially after hours. You can still get a hold of them to talk about changes to your information, needing to make or cancel an appointment, etc...they say that it could take up to 2 days for a reply.
