The Raleigh VA Clinic has exceeded my expectations with every appointment. The receptionist greets you with a smile, which I know is easy only sometimes when interacting with the public.
Dr. Sheryl Joyner is the epitome of professionalism, wisdom, and warmth. Equally, those who work with Dr. Joyner are a joy! Usually, I have "white coat" syndrome when I visit the doctor, and the anxiety elevates my blood pressure. However, nurses like Rashida King had me laughing and at ease in the short walk from the reception area to the doctor's office--no high blood pressure!
Furthermore, Dr. Joyner and Nurse King were informative, relatable, and authentically caring. Going to the doctor is not at the top of anyone's list of things to do, but the staff at the Raleigh VA clinic are good medicine!

Pasadena Villa Outpatient Center–Raleigh is an integrative, 12 step focused drug and alcohol rehab for adults in Cary, North Carolina. They offer specialized programs for young adults, seniors, and persons with co-occurring addiction and mental illness. Their primary treatment modalities combine psychotherapy with evidence based complementary car | Treatments Programs Payment Options | This is a terrific program! I can’t recommend it highly enough, and I’m pretty skeptical and critical generally. I didn’t really think I needed any outpatient program support when I started it, but I’m so glad I agreed to attend! I learned so much and have been applying what I’ve been learning. It’s really working and helping me deal with tough situations in much better ways. The DBT and CBT skills they teach seem like common sense at first, but they’re hard to realistically apply in day-to-day life. The way they are taught and reinforced at Pasadena Villa makes them more applicable to actual life and real situations, and they really help folks practice and engage with what they’re teaching. They use many different ways of teaching which helps make content accessible to different kinds of learners.
The therapists are absolute rockstars!!! They do soooo much to accommodate people in whatever their situation is, making sure everyone feels and is safe and supported. They’re great at individual therapy and teaching groups, keeping conversations going and getting to know people well. All therapists learn all patients’ names on each person’s first day, which helps people feel comfortable and included. The organization runs really smoothly and transparently, and the curriculum is well-designed and engaging. You can tell that the director cares a lot about making it a good experience. She’s really down to earth and seeks (and applies!) feedback. They foster a really caring, open, safe culture that helps everyone feel welcome and appreciated. Additionally, the alternative therapy sessions are really fun, insightful, and useful (art, music, yoga). They keep the group sizes reasonable and pretty intimate. The other clients/participants/patients are also really really kind, supportive, and motivated (like literally almost every single person!). I looked forward to going every single day, which says a lot for 8 weeks at 9 am, 30 minutes from my home!
The space itself is well supplied and designed: comfy chairs with little desks, rooms that have a lot of natural light (the pictures online are bad and don’t do it justice!), well-stocked snacks, fridge, water, coffee, nice quiet room to calm down, cool fidget toys, many art supplies, good lunches if you’re in PHP (I recommend starting with PHP if your work and insurance allow it — it was more helpful than IOP when I was initially having a pretty hard time, and then you step down to IOP which feels appropriate after some time in PHP).
My only complaint is that the rooms are pretty cold — bring a sweater.
If you’re considering an IOP or PHP program, you will not regret going to Pasadena Villa. If someone has advised you to do IOP or PHP, and you don’t think you need it, you will not regret going to Pasadena Villa! ;)
P.S. I wasn’t paid or anything to write this glowing review — I really did absolutely love this program!!! And I rarely write reviews! :)

I am a previous patient and at the time I was very hesitant to start due to past experiences at mental health facilities. On my last day I was having a bad day and was extremely upset because I had felt like all my hard work went to waste. It has now been a month or so since I’ve left and I cannot thank this program enough for all of their help. It may not feel like progress in the moment but my life has forever changed for the better. It feels like everything is now working in my favor and even when life feels hard I now have the tools and resources to live a fulfilling life. Thank you to Emily and all of the therapist. I am actually tearing up writing this.

The Insight Program was exactly what I needed. I came into the intensive outpatient program after being referred from an inpatient I attended in Georgia when I was 17 years old. I did 13 weeks of IOP and then stayed in their support group for 1 1/2 years. This program taught me how to be sober and live a sober lifestyle in a way that I could understand and relate to. I had been to 4 other treatment centers when I ended up here. I connected with this place the most because all of staff are in recovery and had gone through the program themselves. They were immediate examples that recovery was possible for me, and I knew they understood what I was going through because they had gone through it themselves. The meetings and functions gave me things to do in the evenings other than using substances and people my age who were sober to socialize with. This program gave me the environment and tools I needed to learn how be sober and take ownership over my life. I have 3 years sober next month and have fully transitioned into AA, but I will forever be grateful for my experience here and what I learned.

Wonderful facility and supportive staff! As a new member of the City of Raleigh's Community Engagement Board, I want to learn more about organizations serving our community members. I chose Healing Transitions' Women's Campus as my first site visit because I live nearby and I wanted to see what my neighbors who are experiencing homelessness have access to. I had the opportunity to meet staff and received an amazing tour by Carol, a peer-mentor (former program participant), who guided me through the entire facility and shared information about the programs available at the Women's Campus. The location is beautifully situated in a canopy of trees with several outdoor amenities for gathering. When I arrived, without an appointment, I was greeted by, Kristin, another former program participant, who connected me with Kathy Worley, Women's Planning Room Team Lead.
Kathy shared information about the primary services offered: Long-term recovery program, emergency drop-in shelter, and non-medical detox. They provide on-demand shelter and non-medical detox services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Both serve as entry points for the recovery program, but direct entry into the program is possible if detox is not necessary. Two days a week a nurse and physician provide medical triage for various conditions. Healing Transitions also offers a family support program (open to family, friends, and loved ones) and they have outreach efforts lead by their Rapid Responders who are state-certified, peer support specialists. This group of specialists build relationships and connect people in Wake Co. to life-saving resources within 24 - 72 hours of overdosing.
I would recommend individuals seeking services and those that care about someone experiencing homelessness and/or substance use to contact Healing Transitions. I also recommend local businesses and individuals to make contributions (e.g., financial contributions, provide in-kind services, or volunteer) to support this local organization. Healing Transitions is a registered nonprofit and all donations are tax deductible. I would also suggest community organizations, businesses, or other groups inquire about renting their beautiful board and community rooms. The spaces have amazing views of the wooded property and are easily accessible from the facility's private parking lot.
Thank you very much for allowing me to visit with staff and program participants as well as for the insightful tour! I look forward to sharing information about opportunities at the Healing Transitions' Women's Campus and will see if I can learn more about the Men's Campus in Downtown Raleigh, next!

This was my first visit to this clinic and I was very anxious because of some bad reviews and negative feedback from friends. The anxiety caused my blood pressure to shoot up through the roof. However, Ms. Durham, the nurse, calmed me down and took my anxiety away. Ms. Durham is a pleasant person who does a great job. In addition, Dr. Lee is a great doctor who cares about his patients. He explained everything to me in detail, not only the medical aspect, but also the administration resources that are available for me. I am a hospital corpsman and I have been working in the medical field for decades. I can say that my experience at the VA clinic is not different from any other private clinic, if not better. I only gave this review 4 stars because the receptionist was not smiling nor was she welcoming either. In fact, I felt that she got frustrated with me because she was unable to find my appointment easily. Overall, I can sincerely say that my visit was great! I went through this program in 2019 and became an alumni. It changed my life and helped me develop a solid network of people in recovery in this area.
Unfortunately, after 2.5 years of sobriety, I moved away from Raleigh and stopped working a recovery program and ended up relapsing and losing everything over the course of a few months.
What makes this place so special to me is that when I called, they sent someone to Wilmington to pick me up and brought me back into the program... And I've never had to pay a penny for any of their services!

Im a Owner Operator Truck driver. I delivered a load and the place i delivered to left some food products on my trailer. I was about to trash it just to get it out my trailer. Then I decided to call a shelter to see if I can give it to them. I called and Robert answered. I explained my situation to him. He said he will be happy to except it. So I drove their, Robert and I think the other guy name was Trent. I just know he was wearing a burgundy sweat suit. Sorry if I got your name wrong. Anyways they got the stuff off my trailer. I'm happy I was able to give it to them instead off throwing it in the trash. Robert and the other guys I spoke with was extremely friendly.

My evaluation appointment I felt she listened well and made me feel assured that I was gonna be in good hands. My second appointment with my meds doctor went well. She honestly understood and knew exactly which direction I should focus on first and motivated my efforts to gain control of my mental health and life back in order again. I'm eager to get back on solid ground and start a new beginning. Thank you for the help Visions

I've seen some negative reviews about Maxine, although I've had the opposite experience. Maxine does have a strong personality, however, she has been extremely professional, helpful and loving over the past two years while working with me and my children. Their behaviors have shifted for the better since Maxine has come into our lives and I am so grateful for her and the services she provides.
