book iconAlcoholism

Alcoholism - also known as alcohol use disorder (AUD), alcohol dependence, and alcohol addiction - is a chronic condition that describes a form of problem drinking that causes harm to a person’s health and relationships. To treat AUD, alcohol rehab in Louisiana is usually necessary. This typically involves three phases: medical detox to safely withdraw from alcohol, rehabilitation through evidence-based therapies, and support for long-term recovery maintenance.

prescription iconDrug Addiction

While each drug rehab in Louisiana offers unique elements, recovery support often follows a similar pattern. Detox is followed by inpatient and/or outpatient care, then aftercare support is provided once the participant completes the initial program.

head-side-medical iconDual Diagnosis

Specialized dual-diagnosis addiction treatment in Louisiana offers integrated treatment for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Programs include detox, outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization options. Therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy, or dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and group therapy address the underlying causes of addiction, enhance coping strategies, and promote mental health and well-being. The programs discharge planning and alumni program will help to support long-term recovery by preventing relapse and providing on-going support post-treatment.

file-medical iconSubstance Abuse

Specialized substance abuse treatment programs in Louisiana can address addiction and any co-occurring mental health disorders. These programs offer a range of care options, including outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization programs. Expert clinicians utilize evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-focused therapy to address substance abuse and promote mental health. Other recovery supports include 12-Step meetings, skills workshops, psychoeducation, and an aftercare plan to enhance your chances of long-term recovery.

Medical briefcase icon Levels of Care

clipboard-medical iconMedically Assisted Detox

The first step in the addiction recovery process involves flushing all addictive drugs and alcohol from your body while under 24/7 medical supervision. Known as a medically assisted detox, this level of care takes into account that quitting your drug of choice cold turkey can be very dangerous once you’ve become physically dependent. In a medical detox, your team of medical professionals helps to ensure your safety and comfort. Most people transition to an inpatient treatment or maintenance program upon completion.

house-medical iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients engaged in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) participate in multiple treatment sessions weekly. Typical treatment modalities include individual, group, and family counseling, addiction and recovery education, medication assisted treatment (MAT), and evidence-based holistic therapies. Most intensive outpatient rehabs require clients to engage in a minimum of nine and a maximum of 20 treatment hours per week. Many clients enter IOP after stepping down from intensive inpatient care, but some may enroll immediately after completing detox.

bed-front iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

people-group iconIntervention Services

They know that the impact of addiction extends well beyond the addict. Families and friends who love and care about them feel the pain as well. Everyone maintains the hope the the addict will finally “see the light” and come to their senses but more often than not the addict is trapped in denial and simply unwilling to accept help that is offered. Interventions can take many forms including confronting the addictive behavior, setting boundaries, or just getting together and talking over options. The purpose of an intervention is not to place blame or to air grievances but instead to show the addict how much people care about their well being and to hopefully convince them that the best step forward is professional treatment. Their preferred intervention partners bring a professional approach to this process that is intended to bridge the communication gap and improve the chance of getting the addict engaged in the recovery process. With the proper guidance, everyone has the ability to make decisions that result in a greatly improved quality of life. The goal of their intervention partners is to remove the family or employer from the crisis and guide the individual to the appropriate level of care.

house-medical iconAftercare Support

When clients are admitted to Whispering Oaks, they begin their recovery journey – a journey that will include physical, emotional and spiritual healing in an environment that has been designed solely for that purpose. As clients graduate and venture outside of this bubble, the possibility of returning to old behaviors can quickly turn into reality without proper planning. Having a sound aftercare plan in place that has been developed specifically for the individual’s situation is a critical step in the recovery process. Upon admission to Whispering Oaks Lodge, an aftercare plan will begin to be developed for the client. This plan may change over the course of treatment but the goal remains the same – establish an environment that will give the client the absolute best odds of nurturing and maintaining long-term sobriety.

car-building iconOutpatient

Clients enrolled in outpatient rehab typically need less intensive supervision and support than those in inpatient care. Clients may continue to work and attend school while participating in addiction counseling and recovery education during the evening, night, or weekend. Clients also often enter intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment immediately upon exiting residential care, which provides them with high-level step-down support as they reintegrate into their homes and communities.

Animal Therapy

The WildCat Foundation has partnered with Whispering Oaks Lodge to bring forward the Heeling Partners Program. This seasonal program is the first of its kind in the area, and was created to facilitate the rehabilitation of substance abuse patients through the fostering and training of ‘at-risk’ shelter dogs. Clients who qualify will be provided a new avenue toward recovery by training and socializing abused, neglected or unwanted dogs in the hopes of finding them a forever home.

Equine Therapy

The Eagala Model of equine assisted therapy is a global standard in therapy and personal development. It is a client-centered and solution-oriented approach to treatment. Equine-assisted therapy work often helps clients change and grow more effectively and quicker than traditional clinical and psychological approaches. The reason for this is that typically people learn best by actually doing something. Life lessons take deeper meaning when individuals not only understand them but experience them in their bodies. Working with horses is engaging, real time and hands-on. The experience is immediate and felt completely.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Family Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.
