Odyssey's goal in our adolescent house is aimed at doing just what you described. Reuniting the family in a healthy, peaceful way. That's why our program includes so much involvement with families, not just the teen who is in our care. We are glad things are working out Cody and thank you for the positive review.

it's the most horrible place we've ever heard of in our life. And it's tormenting my son, he's being threatened to get killed and everything staff don't care, my son had to share a room with a kid who was talking to themselves ( they were mentally bad in the head), and he ended up overdose, my son is so traumatized I'm trying to do everything I can to get him out of there, and they don't care because it's court ordered my son is not a bad kid at all he was just caught smoking so they sent him to this facility and all I hear from my son is that he just wants to get out of there and that the place is driving him nuts, no place should make you feel like that. They are supposed to make sure your doing good and okay and not just letting you be in the room, my son almost got stabbed with a toothbrush this isn't a jail or prison it's supposed to be a rehab center, and then allowing and just letting this happen is not okay I need my son out of there it's driving me crazy that he's not doing well and it's making me very very sick

Thank you for reaching out to Odyssey Leo about concerns you have regarding our adolescent residential program. First a simple fact. There was not a stabbing there! We take violence of any kind extremely seriously, especially involving a weapon or anything that could be used as a weapon. We conduct regular room searches to make sure the facility is weapon free. Because of federal privacy laws we can t comment on specific cases. We might point out that very few teenagers want to be in a residential program, but many of them are there because of behaviors they ve engaged in that put them in the juvenile justice system, something more serious than being caught smoking. The professional staff of therapists and clinicians in the Odyssey program work diligently on helping them to change those behaviors. They care about these troubled teens and want them to succeed. In fact over the years we have helped hundreds and hundreds of kids to get their lives back on track and they ve become healthy, happy contributing members of society. We take all complaints seriously and would suggest that you contact our Program Director Chris Coburn directly to have an honest conversation about your concerns. Worst place ever, I swear no one can pass this program people try there hardest and still can't do it, if I say so my self after seeing a lot of reviews and people talking about it it does not seem like a safe environment why is there stabbing? And why are they making kids feel so miserable and crazy, this in not helping there mental health but making it worse I had a friend in there who never got to make it, but he was the best and goodest person there, it's crazy how they have 1-3 months on there website but they are trying to make my friend stay there even longer than those months, and seeing that review about that poor kid he does not need to be there getting caught smoking is serious but not serious enough you have to put them in rehab, is for people with serious addictions and they are supposed to keep on watch of you, and take care but this reviews are so sad.

Accepted Insurance

Odyssey House – Teen Residential works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enter a drug rehab in Utah, the process usually involves four stages: treatment initiation, early abstinence, maintaining abstinence, and advanced recovery. Treatment methods can rely on medications, counseling, or both, in either an outpatient or inpatient setting.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) is a modality based on strengthening moral reasoning, that can be used in substance abuse treatment. Originally created to help criminal offenders stop committing crimes, it is a structured approach that includes both group and individual counseling, as well as homework exercises. The MRT workbook is structured around 16 steps (units) focusing on 7 treatment issues, including building a healthy, positive identity; developing a higher frustration tolerance; and forming a strong moral belief structure. Participants meet 1-2 times weekly in groups, and can complete all steps of the MRT program in 3-6 months.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

When our child was dumped by lifeline for youth they referred us here. They wouldn’t take my daughter because of one act of aggression. They never even called to say they wouldn’t take her.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thanks for the review Rochelle and we hope you find help for your daughter. Odyssey House has strict guidelines about acts of aggression to make sure all of our clients are safe. If you had a communication problem we certainly apologize, although we wonder how you knew we couldn't take your daughter if no one told you that. We have hundreds of successful outcomes in our teen program.

This rehab center was great. Shout-out to Riri for the delicious food. Shout-out to Ms. Tascha (aka my therapist) ya she's the best therapist. Ok look times will get hard throughout your time at Odyssey. There will be drama from time to time, the best option is to remove yourself from the drama and write your encounters, focus on yourself and what you have to do. Give this program your all, if you take in everything it is very helpful. I can't complain myself. The outings are usually fun and the activities are pretty cool. (for the noobies: save up your tickets don't spend them on food too often, go out and make memories!!) The staff are really cool too and they deeply care about the kids. If you tell yourself they don't think again. Just because a staff couldn't answer a question you asked within the first 3 seconds of you asking doesn't mean they don't care or they don't like you, everyone has there own personal things going on in there life, not every staff is going to have a good day everyday. Keep your head up and put in 120% effort. More shout-outs !!! : Mike is a very understanding and wise person and he is very good to talk to if you need someone to talk to or if you want to have a 6 hour conversation (my record with him) Chris (teacher) is very smart like he should be a scientist smart. He is very helpful and good at explaining things. And he does fun things once in a while :) oof I could go on and on but I don't really want to do that :) Thank you Odyssey for leading me down a better path. Thank you Odyssey for the memories made.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Wow Carlos!!! What can we say except a big THANK YOU for the positive review. Your comment about staying out of any in-house drama and taking advantage of everything being offered really hits home. The people who really want help and are willing to work hard and buy into the program are the ones who always succeed. Our dedicated Odyssey staff and the Horizonte teachers really care about helping you and wanting you to succeed. Dealing with teens and their problems isn't easy as you well know. We will make sure that the entire staff sees this review because clients like you make their hearts happy. We are glad you leave with great memories and you will be someone who has left all of us with great memories as well.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
The teenage years are difficult and Odyssey House is grateful you gave us the opportunity to work with your daughter and we are ecstatic with the outcome. Your story is typical about teens hating things when they come in and then crying when they leave. The key is giving it a chance to work and your daughter did just that. We are proud of our therapists because they work so hard in difficult situations and we will be sure to let all the folks working at the Odyssey Adolescent House see your review. A heartfelt thank you.

this place is terrible. i went into a full blown breakdown here. the building is so small there is barely room to breathe. because most of us are court ordered, they treat us like criminals and as if our voice dosent deserve to be heard. i had multiple suicide attempts here (i wasnt the only one) and my therapist (yollie) refused to see me. the director of the building allowed me to listen to a certain artist help me calm down when im upset and take breaks in the hallway, but one day when holly (the clinical director) was there, she came into the hallway screaming at me for taking a break. at first i wasnt really saying anything back, but she continued to antagonize me until i was having a meltdown. she brought her boyfriend into work with her that day, who tried to fight me. she was literally holding him back. after all of this she called the police on me and got me sent back to juvie. the cops on scene clearly thought it was all a joke but she persisted that i had to be out THAT NIGHT. after i left i was told my things would be sent back, but i still havent gotton my stuff back 3 months later. i have called repeatedly about it and nobody seems to know anything.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thanks for the review Lime. Achieving recovery from mental health and substance use issues is a long, difficult road especially in your teenage years. Your perception of what is going on can be different than reality. There always 2 sides to a story and you have every right to your side. Odyssey is glad you are seeking help and we honestly hope you can find it somewhere. If you do, you will realize that life is worth living.

This is the second time my son has been with Odyssey House’s Teen Program. They have worked diligently to improve the program and still are. With the changes, consistency and accountability that incorporated into this program my son has really started to turn things around. The staff there cares about the kids and it really shows. Tasha, his therapist is one of a kind. She’s all in. She held my son accountable and worked tirelessly with him to help him get through and push towards his growth. Chris, the director was incredible. You can tell he’s invested in the success of the kids within his program. M. John was such an amazing mentor to my child and I’m grateful for their presence. My son has been home a little over 2 weeks now and the continued improvement I see and his want to really try and change I feel is owed a lot to the program. The only real thing I would like to see maybe incorporated into this program is like a weekly updates on how your children are progressing or struggling. Overall, I would recommend this program to any parent who has a child that struggles in addiction and mental health issues. Thank you guys so much for your investment in my child.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you so much for the detailed review Hayley! You're right that Chris and the staff really care about the young people in the program. We wish more people would recognize problems at an early age and work on them before they turn into adult problems that could create serious issues in the future. We thank you for your suggestion about weekly updates and it is always our goal to have family members aware and involved in their teens progress. The entire staff and the classroom teachers are all dedicated to a successful outcome and it sounds like things are working for your son. Odyssey house appreciates your positive and constructive review and we wish all good things for your son as he navigates life.

Way to teach the children to blame their parents for their bad behavior. You broke our family!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you for your review Debra. The perfect goal in our Adolescent Program is for our young clients to have a happy reunification with their family. Unfortunately because of specific family dynamics and court orders that doesn't always work out. Believe me that our program is aimed at fixing families, not breaking them, and in most cases it works.

We decided that we needed more help for our son then we could give him. When we reached out to Odyssey House, they were very quick and efficient to get us the help we needed. Our son has been here for over a month now. Odyssey is not just a treatment center for addiction but behavioral health as well. The staff works hard to take care of the needs of our children and we have witnessed this first hand. His therapist is helping us understand the things that he is going through. Natascha is absolutely amazing! This program is well structured and thought out to every need of the children. I know that it is still early, but I have no doubt that we are going to have many positive outcomes from utilizing this program!

At Odyssey we love our adolescents and take great joy in getting them back on track to face the realities of life and doing it sober. Thank you for the review and we hope for nothing but the best for your son!

Although my son is still currently there and only a month in i would still like to give my thoughts on the program. First i would like to give a special thanks to his therapist Natascha she has been nothing but amazing, sending updates all week long, to answering any and all questions we have as a family to better help our boy.The determination that she has to help my son is amazing. I havent had to many interactions with the staff however i know my son is in the best hands possible for the circumstances he's got himself in. I also would like to give a special thanks to Pam & Chris for helping us get him into there! So with all this said i am oh so grateful for the program and encourage others to utilize it if needed!

Thanks for the amazing review. We are all dedicated to recovery and we put special emphasis on family connections in our adolescent program. It is gratifying to hear that your son is well and progressing in the program. You've taken a difficult and amazing first step in finding help for him and we honor you for doing that. When we say "We are Recovery" we live by that slogan every day.

Thanks Slump for the review. No one loves going to treatment and it's hard, but Odyssey is glad you survived and are taking a positive approach remembering the things you will use in the future.
