Avoid this hospital at all cost, the process of patient care is horrible. The DR and RN lied to us about asking for a transfer since PVH couldn’t provide the level of care for my injury. After we left due to waiting around for 4 hours with zero progress on getting the transfer we went to the hospital PVH said they asked for my transfer and Balboa Naval Hospital said no one from any hospital called to request a transfer. The only reason this hospital is still open is because they treat all the arrested people and the city keeps it afloat.

PLEASE AVOID THIS HOSPITAL, GO ELSEWHERE FOR HELP! THEY WILL NOT GIVE YOU TREATMENT IN A TIMELY MATTER AND THE WAY THEY TREAT YOU WILL MAKE YOU FEEL WORSE! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! GOING HERE IS A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY! Went to the emergency room with a fever, severe abdominal pain, nausea, headache and vomit. I was only given blood and urine tests. My pain was not taken seriously and I was discharged told that I was okay and to follow up with my doctor. However, I was not okay, I had an infection that I was not notified of until 4 days later ON A SATURDAY AT 5:50 PM!!! My prescription to treat the infection wasn’t made available to me until the next day, and when I went to pick up the doctor had sent a medication to the pharmacy that they did not have. I had to contact the hospital again so they could send the prescription to a different pharmacy as I was in terrible pain and needed treatment ASAP. The phone operator raised their voice at me simply for asking for help and explaining my situation so he would understand and know where to direct me. When I asked for his name because he was almost yelling at me while I cried because he made me upset while I was IN PAIN, he just redirected me to ER. Then, the staff at the ER told me over the phone “I don’t know why you’re calling us” after I had already explained what happened. I HAD TO BASICALLY BEG, for them to help me receive my medication. I suffered for 5 days with fever for no reason because the incompetent staff at this hospital couldn’t detect something that should’ve been obvious from my symptoms. But the people here cannot be bothered. They DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR PATIENTS. They make you feel like you’re a disturbing their peace and make a situation that is already stressful even worse. ALL STAFF AT THIS HOSPITAL NEEDS TO BE TRAINED ON HOW TO TREAT PEOPLE WITH RESPECT, ESPECIALLY PEOPLE WHO ARE UNWELL, UPSET, AND IN NEED OF HELP! I work in healthcare with people who have developmental disabilities and I am appalled that healthcare “professionals” can act the way I was treated here.

Accepted Insurance

Paradise Valley Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Clients receiving treatment at an outpatient rehab typically do not require hospitalization or intensive supervision and support. Outpatient addiction counseling and recovery education are often offered during the morning, evening, night, and weekend, allowing clients to tailor treatment to their own schedule. Partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs are the most time-intensive and are designed for clients who are at an increased relapse risk and/or who need more robust therapeutic support.

inpatient iconInpatient

Inpatient rehab provides intensive treatment for clients exiting detox, those in early recovery, and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Unlike outpatient drug rehab, clients receiving inpatient care reside at the facility for the duration of the program. The length of stay may range from two weeks to 18 months or more, depending on the client's needs and the program's design. Inpatient treatment typically involves extensive addiction education and recovery-focused life skills training.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober living homes in California offers an intermediate sober environment that has less structure than inpatient rehab but more than typical home environments. This makes it a good option for those who have concerns about transitioning back to the "real world" after treatment. Residents can typically live at the halfway house as long as they want, if they are willing to follow house rules. These may include a curfew, chores, and maintaining a job.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive form of outpatient treatment where clients meet during the day and return home in the evening. PHP treatment doesn't require 24-hour care and often serves as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down after a residential program. With PHP treatment, you can receive daily support for 6 to 8 hours which includes evidence-based therapies and medication management. The cost of PHP treatment typically varies but averages 90 days.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

During the first phase of recovery – detox – it is crucial to have 24-hour clinical care in California. This care provides constant monitoring in order to ensure your safely and comfort as you progress through the withdrawal process for drug or alcohol addiction. Licensed professionals prescribe medications to treat withdrawal symptoms and provide frequent monitoring to ensure your safely as addictive toxins leave your system.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

While participating in dialectical behavior therapy in California, you'll focus on four key areas of skill development: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Treatment includes weekly individual and group sessions.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

I went to the ER department in excruciating pain and dehydrated, waited for 4 hours, eventually they took my blood in their “lobby” , never had a room for me, and charged me 1,400$. Place sucks. Would not go back again.

I am absolutely furious as I write this review, decades after what happened to my mom. Back when she was only ~13 years old, she was in a severe car accident in Paradise Hills, San Diego. She wasn’t wearing a seatbelt because the car didn’t even have one, and when she crashed, the vehicle spun 360 degrees in the middle of a heavy-traffic intersection. She slammed her head into the windshield so hard that it cracked. She was bleeding profusely from her head, couldn’t see anything because her vision blacked out, and felt nauseous — all clear signs of a serious brain injury. And yet, what did the hospital staff at Paradise Hill do? They put a neck brace on her and made her walk to her room instead of safely transporting her. They stitched her head and sent her home. No CT scan. No proper neurological evaluation. Nothing. A child with severe head trauma — blackout vision, nausea, heavy bleeding — and they treated her like it was nothing more than a scratch. As her son, I am livid that my mom never received the care she so desperately needed. For 20 years, I’ve heard this story, and it shocks me every time. She could have had permanent brain damage, or worse, died, because of the sheer negligence of that hospital. The fact that she functions today is nothing short of a miracle, but the staff’s failure to provide even the most basic emergency care is unforgivable. This hospital was known back then for killing people, and my mom’s story only proves how recklessly they treated patients. I will never forget how she was dismissed and mistreated as a young teenager with a traumatic head injury. If I could give this hospital zero stars, I would. It doesn't matter how long ago it was. I will never trust this hospital even if you gave me 4 billion dollars. I will always talk bad about it, and it will always be on my "never visit in case if emergencies" list.

They were so nice and fast and caring and the nurse he was amazing such a huge heart. Not bad for 1. Dr. And 20 beds I was impressed. The Dr. Was really nice to and he actually sat and listen to me. And check in was so easy and then the blood work and testing started right away. I say Bravo to this hospital.
