About Serenity Education and Therapy

Serenity Education and Therapy (SET) is a state licensed center that specifically provides treatment to people facing alcohol or drug related legal action that’s located in Lakewood, Colorado. This facility focuses on education and prevention and also provides relapse prevention support. Classes are available for both in person or virtual attendance to give added flexibility.

A Crime Reduction Focus

SET prioritizes helping people facing legal action to avoid either losing their license, incarceration, or other penalties that are usually associated with receiving a DUI or DWAI in the state of Colorado. Even though therapy is provided, this is not a traditional substance abuse treatment program. The priority is to teach people of the importance of not using substances and the penalties or risks associated with having a criminal record for these violations.

Level I and II Education

If you’re facing legal action such as a license suspension or even jail time because of a DUI or DWAI, SET’s Level I and II Education programs may be court mandated solutions. Level I Education is a program for first time offenders with 12 hours that is usually spread over a three day period with a maximum of four hours per day. Level II Education is a more extensive program that requires 24 hours of education spread over 12 weeks and is sometimes required to be completed with Level II Therapy.

Level II Therapy Groups

This is a long term therapy program that’s treated like an outpatient solution that offers two hour sessions that meet once a week. There are four tracks or levels ranging from as little as 42 hours over 21 weeks to as much as 86 hours over 43 weeks. The program length is assigned by evaluators from the probation department.

Because this is an alternative program to help you keep your license or avoid facing criminal charges, services are not covered by insurance.

this treatment center is nothing but amazing. I completed both my education and therapy with Serenity, and it was very straightforward and easy to stay on track with classes. Both Kevin and Theresa are knowledgeable and so helpful with whatever I needed regarding my DUI and getting education and therapy. I checked out multiple treatment centers and I'm so glad I chose to go with Serenity. I highly recommend Serenity, and Kevin is an amazing counselor. he treatmented me like a human being that made a mistake, never looked down on me or treated me poorly for why I was there for treatment. I learned so much from Serenity that will stick with me for the rest of my life. I'd highly recommend Serenity if you are looking for a professional as well as personable treatment center.

Client completed Level II Education and received full credit on his Discharge Referral Summary (DRS). He may take this proof of classes to the DMV, Court or another agency. This man did not understand the language on the DRS form.

Classes are pretty good and go by fast but there is just something about there offices lack of communication they never answer when I need something especially when its court related, but they are pushy when they need to get ahold of me for something.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Professional services are often necessary to recover from addiction. Drug rehab in Colorado provides the expert services needed to address the complex issues of addiction and help individuals start their recovery journey.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

I'm not court ordered or sentenced to complete anything yet. I voluntarily signed up for alcohol classes. I was not informed by anyone until my final education class that serenity MANDATES therapy in addition to education classes. If you do not follow their orders you get discharged from the program. Somebody should have told me that when I started.

I have nothing to say expect wonderful thing. From the office people to Ann out instructor and therapist. I felt they really cared. They spoke to me spoke to me with dignity and respect. While zoom is not the easiest form to teach, Ann did great job. I took a wealth information. Just remember if you treat people like you want to be treated it usually works. One last thought. Do not blame them. We are the one's to blame so own it. Thanks for everything from Serenity Sincerely Rhonda Sue Curtis.
