I have struggled with alcohol abuse for the last three years and this was the ONE place out of 23 treatment centers that finally worked. Nobody ever thought they would see me sober, but today I can say I am, thanks to Sober Life. I was a frequent relapser, just barely making it by, and when I decided to seek treatment through Sober Life a whole new world opened for me. The team at Sober Life cares. I felt valued, I felt empowered, understood and heard. After being in and out of so many treatment centers I found myself fatigued, but through my process with Sober Life I actually wanted to continue my program as long as I could. I WANTED to be there and I've learned a life I never knew possible thanks to the team there. I can say that this program likely saved my life, and showed me a new life that I could never have imagined. The support and understanding was beyond belief. I felt so safe there. I've made friendships with a lot of my peers from groups as well. Which I never wanted to do before. Recovery can be difficult to begin, scary to start, but Sober Life feels SAFE. I'm not the type to write reviews, but I know how hard I struggled and for anyone reading this or questioning a start, I highly recommend this team. I am eternally grateful for my experience there.

Sober life has been one of the best experiences in my life! I came in not really sure what I wanted out of treatment and scared to really connect with people and have them see me in my weaker moments. All of the staff at sober life loved me through these issues and helped me get to a place where I felt safe and comfortable enough to communicate what was really going on with me, and gave me the tools I needed to be able to deal with things as they came up on a daily basis. Anytime I was a little off or lost any amount of momentum, they noticed immediately and did whatever they could to make sure I continued my progress and that even though addiction is a lonely disease, it became a lot easier to believe I wasnt alone and recovery is possible. It wasn't complicated at all, they handle the insurance stuff for you so you can focus and prioritize your recovery over anything else. Kimberly, Dan, Ashley, and Kelley have all been huge grounding stones in my recovery, showing up every time and helping me make solutions out of chaos. Having all of these amazing, kind, and extremely dependable people in my life has kept me steady and also taught me what having people around who genuinely love you, want the best for you, and who celebrate your achievements and help you through your downfalls looks like. Like any recovery program, you have to want it and put in your own effort, but they make the weight just lighter enough that it seems much more attainable.

I like to thank Pacific Bay recovery for helping my husband and treating him like family. The staff helped him every step of the way, we have tried several rehabilitation centers and none of them worked. My Husband has been through a lot was addicted to everything was a very agitated man and I am so thankful to have my husband back and it’s all because of this program. He stayed in the copper house for two months and he loved it so much. It was hard to bring him home. He chose his recovery center And he was there because he wanted to be there not because he wanted to be Not because he had to be there. He was not the easiest patient in the beginning, but he stuck it out because Made him feel comfortable as they treated him like family. His big guy there since January 5. And they have truly been a blessing to our family Him get through his addictions, his mental state, they have great counselors Psychiatrist they have been a blessing. He is now changed man and a great husband And grandfather, I’m truthfully grateful Of your help I love you all!! My father has been attending this recovery place. Watching someone you love struggle is one of the most painful experiences life can offer. My father’s journey with addiction affected not only him, but our entire family. This rehab gave my dad a chance to step away from the chaos and begin to face the pain that fueled his addiction. This place has treated him greatly and I'll be forever grateful for what they have done. Since entering the program a few months ago, he has begun the hard work of healing. I finally feel like I have my dad back and could not be more thankful for the staff and everyone else included, truly. I HIGHLY recommend this place for someone and/or a family member struggling with addiction.

I have a love/hate relationship with LJR. It's complicated, but I have to say that it IS a great place to detox. The nursing staff is top-notch, exhibiting a tremendous amount of care, empathy and experience. Francisco was my guardian angel, always ready to lend an ear, guidance and giggles. They are *almost* always willing to fulfill requests. The staff is remarkably kind and helpful.

We are so grateful for the care our daughter received at Evolve Cole Ranch. She truly thrived, growing in confidence, accountability, and self-awareness. The facility is beautiful and creates a peaceful, healing environment. There’s also a positive, uplifting energy—it was important to us that treatment felt like support, not punishment, and Cole Ranch delivered. We especially appreciated the small group setting (only about six kids), which allows for individualized attention and meaningful peer connections. She benefited from both traditional therapy (individual, group, and family) and experiential therapies like equine and surf—she can’t wait to surf again! Most importantly, she left with real skills she’s already using at home. We’re incredibly proud of her and deeply thankful to the entire team—especially her therapist, Charlie, who seemed to know exactly how to connect with her. My daughter’s mental health symptoms showed up at age thirteen. It seemed like overnight we went from having a typical child who enjoyed spending time with family, playing with friends, reading books, going on outings to just wanting to die. It was a very scary and confusing place for our family. I tried and tried to find providers who could help her. She went to multiple providers and programs with little change. After our insurance changed, we were able to start treatment at Evolve. From the very beginning, I felt that we were in good hands. The staff are well trained and the program is well designed. My daughter’s behaviors and our family’s communication patterns changed dramatically. After four years of feelings as if I had lost my daughter, I have my daughter back. I’m grateful that the providers at Evolve have extensive knowledge and experience with teens with mental health issues, and we finally got the help we needed!

Evolve did wonders for our teen. I'm sure it's hard for them to get reviews as this is such a private matter. The whole process is utterly heartbreaking. You don't end up here because you wanna be here. That being said they worked with us as a family so well. I really liked that. They involve you in the treatment and try to ensure that you will have the tools necessary to help your child continue on their path of healing. The path is BUMPY, and it heartbreaking. I remember graduating out of program thinking I don't know if I am ready to do it without them. They helped us navigate tough topics and issues our teen would shut down on us with. Helped us see each other's sides. Helped our teen see themeself. When we graduated out were ok and we did move forward on our own. As a family we are so thankful for the staff at Evolve and the forever impact they have made on our child's life. The skills they shared, our kiddo still uses. Our kiddo really had a connection to the staff. There was also a pet lizard that meant a lot to our kiddo. There's so much I could say about this place. But the biggest is just two words FOREVER THANKFUL.

Out of prison since September. Went from CTC, to McAlister New Conmections, to Independent Living. I wasn’t mandated but asked my probation to stay. I’ve been out 9 months from Folsom and I’ve got a five figure savings account, a brokerage account, a permanent job (after working with a staffing agency for 3 months) at a major industrial manufacturer in San Diego and a job making almost 80K a year with a 401(K). When I arrived at this place I didn’t have anything but literally the clothes on my back but the staff inspired me to believe that I was capable of maintaining my sobriety and making something out of my life and thanks to that feedback that I took to heart, I’m a responsible member of society again and I early term off of probation in three months. The Lighthouse Community is a place where people can receive support education and the necessary resources for their recovery from addictions. Life is full of challenges including pain, anxiety, depression, emotional distress and more. In order to begin our recovery process we need to first admit we’re addicted. The Lighthouse will assist those who are suffering and have decided that recovery will be the best option to continue with the process. My personal experience with the Lighthouse was extremely positive, I was given all the necessary tools, information, counseling and guidance to make it happen, beginning my lifelong journey in recovery. The more effort that is put into making recovery a priority the more you will get out of it. The Lighthouse is longer than others and shorter than others, the approach is unique and worth the effort. I have been fortunate enough to be house coordinator for an extended period. I’m grateful for the opportunity to begin my journey, by starting there.

I didn’t come to Soledad because I “wanted help.” I came because I was out of options. By the time I made that call, I was completely desperate—emotionally, mentally, and spiritually drained. I felt alone, without hope, and I was slowly killing myself. I thought I had everything I once prayed for but, I could no longer feel joy or happiness. I was in complete darkness and a big black hole that I couldn't dig out of. I wasn’t living anymore… I was just existing and a shell of a person. And that’s when Soledad stepped in—and changed and saved my life. I came into the program not fully honest with myself, stuck in a prison of my own making. I believed leaving my responsibilities was impossible, and I was terrified of judgment. But desperation has a way of opening doors you never thought you’d walk through. With nowhere else to turn, I said yes. From the moment I arrived, the staff, counselors, and volunteers met me with a kind of love I didn’t know how to receive. They showed up for me when I couldn’t show up for myself. They loved me when I couldn’t love myself—and that was the beginning of everything changing. What I gained here goes far beyond putting down alcohol. Yes, alcohol was destroying me—but it was never the real problem. It was my solution to something much deeper. By simply showing up, being willing, and taking suggestions, I started to see patterns I had been blind to my entire life. I realized how much I resented myself. How deeply I hated myself. I never felt like I was enough. I’ve always been a people pleaser. I poured everything I had into others, hoping to feel valued, only to end up feeling rejected, second choice, and alone. I didn’t know how to navigate relationships, and I lived with the belief that if people would just be kind and do what I thought was right, I’d finally be okay. What I didn’t understand was this: when I was pouring into others, I was trying to give them what I so desperately needed myself. I had everyone else’s back—but I never had my own. I set impossible expectations—for myself and for others. I chased perfection, and because perfection doesn’t exist, I was constantly left disappointed. That cycle kept me stuck, resentful, and in pain. This program helped me break that cycle. I'm leaving Soledad a better person—with real tools and a new way of living. I’m equipped to do life. I’ve learned how to pause, how to reflect, and how to respond instead of react. I’m no longer rushing to fix everything. I take life one moment at a time, one day at a time—and I actually find joy in the process. For the first time in my life, I can celebrate myself. I can look in the mirror with confidence, amazement, and strength—and truly believe: I am enough. I am strong. I am amazing. I am beautiful. I am a badass. I look at myself now the way I used to look at people I wished I could be. The pain I carried was anchored deep, and I know this journey doesn’t end here. Recovery is something I’ll continue to prioritize, because I want to keep everything I’ve been given. And what I’ve been given is nothing short of a miracle—my life, my joy, my peace. Not just restored, but better than I’ve ever experienced, even before alcohol. I wake up without panic. I feel calm. I feel grounded. Things that once felt impossible are now manageable. And maybe the greatest gift of all—I finally have my own back. If you’re at a loss… if you’re desperate… if you’re scared, terrified, or worried about what people will think—make the call. Soledad is a wonderful recovery program! they helped me to love myself again and showed me that being clean and sober is worth it and can be fun! all of the staff were amazing during my time there. they keep you busy with different activities that are supportive to everyone’s recovery. I joined Akua and completed the program. I was in the program for a total of 4 months and it truely changed my life in such an amazing way. All their staff and therapists are amazing and so well educated to help and assist in anyway I needed. Kathy was my case manager and I can't say enough good things about her, she helped me the entire way through and provided great thought provoking groups and was able to always get everyone involved with each others recovery. This is an amazing program and I refer it to anyone struggling with mental health or addiction, or any kind of trauma they are going through. Thank you so much Akua!

I was at akua strong for PHP, IOP5 and then IOP3. Huge thank you to my care team Meghan and Gabi. During our weekly 1 on 1s they saw me through the whole process and helped me work through all steps of my recovery and set me up to be successful upon my completion of the program. I graduated from Crossroads 20 years ago. The program consisted of groups,meeting and chores. We were not allowed to go to our rooms during the day to rest. The weekends we did house chores all day, taking everything out of kitchen cabinets etc. or on weekends we had an all day garage sale, not able to rest all days and weekends.At the time I didn't stay sober. Now I have been clean and sober 3 years I am 66 yrs. Old. I remember often of the hard program Crossroads was. Yet, thank God I had a place to live sober. This place brought me hope, healing and insight into the complexity of what I was going through. Not only was I able to see the underlining issues I had internally, but I was also taught about the workings of the brain which I don’t think a lot of people know about. You can really get a feel for how much the staff truly cares about recovery. It’s obvious that this line of work is something they pour out their hearts into and that it’s not just a job to gain a paycheck. The facility is more of a home setting with a limit of 6 clients so the care is personal, intimate and in depth. The food is amazing with a fantastic chef that cooks daily meals for the 6 clients. My therapist was pure gold. Firm to call me on my B.S (thank God because I needed this)but also super caring and able to lead me to uncover things about myself I don’t think many people could. All your personal outside life responsibilities and issues will be taken care of through a great case manager. He will work along side of you to make sure your covered while your there and set up for success when you leave. You will leave feeling like you have been adopted into a family!!

I came here for recovery and detox after some traumatic events occurred for my very first admission. This place is fantastic. All my needs were met and not once did I fear for my life. Here you are in good hands with the ever so kind, hardworking, and diligent staff. The home you stay in has individual rooms which is a HUGE plus being that you get your own privacy. The food is absolutely fantastic, and the rules that are in set in place are for your own personal safety. You will have freedom to explore the beautiful property here in San Diego and even get out and explore some of the beautiful attractions around the area multiple times during the week. On top of the medical expertise, delicious food, and the fantastic staff. You will also receive the best therapy one can possibly hope for. You will leave here with all the tools needed to continue a beautiful life of sobriety. 10/10 recommend. Please do come and see it through. You won't regret it :)

The Jane Westin Center is slow as hell, yes. HOWEVER once you are seen, the care is second to none. The counselors, doctors, psychiatrists, nurses and even front desk staff treat you like you matter. They treat you like they care about you and are concerned for your well being. They also insist upon going above and beyond to help you. They offered me help I didn’t even come in for… which I needed. I can not thank the staff enough for being so gregarious and thoughtful. You made me safe and cared for just when I needed it most.

One of the safestplaces I’ve been to for services meaning I didn’t feel uncomfortable disrespected, that I was the problem of my situation, that I was judged by what I’ve done like other clinics have been unfortunately. My daughters at this facility, it has truly helped her and her journey and getting ready for transition to home. I gave it four stars because she says the food is not always the best her words not mine she says at least it’s better than prison food. The counselors and staff Are very helpful in this process.

I am a recent client just retuning home from Healthy Life Recovery in San Diego, California. My intention was to stay only 30 days, however, I stayed almost one year. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and kept me engaged. I stayed at two sober living homes throughout my stay and they were both very clean and nice. The treatment and therapy I received was also quite helpful. I am sober today because Healthy Life allowed me to grow. I have found a new passion for life and will Forever, be grateful.

I’ve spent years fighting childhood trauma and with the help of my wonderful therapist, Rachel I’ve been able to move past it. I had been struggling with some major mental issues since August of 2024, which is when I admitted myself into a mental health facility for six nights and seven days in the San Fernando Valley. I wasn't able to get the proper after care treatment in Los Angeles due to Red Tape and lack of facilities. I reached out to Mädchen Amic who is the Founder/President of the Don't Mind Me Foundation in Palm Springs, Ca.I worked with her on Twin Peaks , Then Twin Peaks:The Return, and knew about her Foundation, and let her know my current situation. She was aware my past struggles. She contacted Keith Blanenship, who is the Executive Director at Healthy Life Recovery in San Diego,Ca.Within minutes, Keith contacted me. After a few minutes on then phone, He invited me down to check out their programs and facilities. The next day I drove down and was greeted by Keith. He gave me a guided tour of their operations. I was then introduced to Bonnie Mitchell, who is the Clinical Director at Healthy Life Recovery.Within seconds, I knew I had found the right home to get the help needed.What I didn't realize is that Mädchen had arranged a sponsorship thru The Don't Mind Me Scholarship Fund. I checked in two days later and had my Intake meeting with Bonnie. When that ended, I was then sent to my house I would be living at for a undecided amount of time. I want to thank Jody (House Captain) and my other six roommates who made me feel welcome and relaxed during my stay. My day consisted of four classes, medical checkups and weekly one on ones with Bonnie. Weekend events such as giving back to the community (Trash Clean Ups, Graffiti Removal), Hiking, Kickball, Volleyball, Softball, Canoeing are just some of the weekend events provided. After three weeks I felt I was ready to get back home, which was a tough decision because I enjoyed every second of my experience at Healthy Life Recovery. I am am now on their Out Patient program which includes daily assignments, Telehealth appointments and in person appointments with them once a month.I enjoy having the opportunity to still be involved with Healthy Life Recovery. I am now part of their Alumni Group, which means I can share my story with people with the same issues I have, and to inspire them the way I have been. I want to thank all of the staff and fellow clients at Healthy Life recovery. for helping me getting my life back on track.

Had my family member stay here who was struggling and this program helped them change their life, there's not a lot of places that treat every individual patient with the care they specifically need and that's what was provided to my family member. The support and comfort that is given is unmatched!! I highly recommend this place!!!!

Akua is the perfect place to recover if you are having problems with mental health and/or substance abuse. Their clinical staff are educated and well trained and very friendly. I am grateful to have built bonds with the staff and my peers. I only hope that anyone else that ends up being a client here has the same experience. I wanted to leave this long review with the hope that someone at the center would take it seriously and learn from it. To begin, I gained entry to this program because a doctor recommended me. And honestly? It was the best thing to happen to me that year. The staff is friendly and kind, and they will connect you to lots of resources. That said, there is always room for improvement. For the record, I was homeless when I entered this program (I’m not anymore) due to having lost my job during CO VID. I am an educated woman with a BA in English literature and a survivor of long term narcissistic abuse. My criticism of Balboa Crisis Center is that they don’t enforce the rules! Clients are supposed to attend groups, participate in chores, and respect other people’s food in the fridge. I had a roommate who did the exact opposite and was allowed to stay in the center for a very long time, instead of being kicked out as she should have been. One day she became randomly angry at me and started stealing my food out of the fridge. By this point I realized she was a narcissist – as in, she had full blown NPD – and had imagined some insult from me against her, which narcissists are known to do, often because they are projecting. When I told the staff about this, nothing was done. So I did what I could to minimize the situation by avoiding my roommate as much as possible and asking to be moved to another room. What the staff should have done was exit VICTORIA from the program, instead of allowing her to stay, steal food, shirk chores, and claim a bed that someone else needed more. I was allowed to stay a long time myself, but the end of my stay was coming, and I would be homeless on the street again. I was very upset about the prospect, and Victoria knew this. As I walked past her in the kitchen, she sarcastically said “Bye!” as a passive aggressive way of mocking me for being homeless again soon. This is how narcissists operate, through plausible deniability. I couldn’t prove that she was mocking me because she had been passive aggressive about it. It was covert, reactive abuse. Suddenly sick of always attracting narcissistic bullies into my life, I wheeled back around and asked her what was wrong with her. I think it was at this point that she realized she may have IMAGINED whatever she was mad at me for. She started insisting that she meant nothing by it,that she was just saying goodbye (lies). Things escalated to the point that I picked up a cup from the table and threw it at her (she thought it would be funny to get in my face). I was sick and tired of narcissists. I’ve been abused by a LOT of them and they are drawn to me because I’m quiet, shy, and a loner, the perfect candidate for covert abuse. Well, not anymore. Everyone acted like I was crazy and imagined Victoria’s behavior, but I know the truth. She stole from me and made me do her chores for weeks, then had the gall to mock me about being exited, and when I finally snapped, tried to make herself out to be the victim. How do I know Victoria was the one stealing? I SAW her sitting in bed eating cake she had stolen. I SAW her in the kitchen looking guilty when everyone else was in group. I SAW her smirking in triumph when Christopher was complaining about someone stealing his ice cream. To anyone who was paying attention, it was obvious that Victoria was the theif. Classic narcissist behavior. And since the staff is made up of psych students, I hope they read this and learn something about narcissists. So on top of being in a crisis (homelessness), I put up with abuse from narcissistic Victoria AND bullying from some of the women on staff, women who were jealous, petty, and insecure. It was a lot to deal with at the time, and with Victoria actively provoking me, it's no wonder I finally snapped. Did anyone there see me with empathy at all? You know, as a human being with feelings? Either way, I am still grateful to Balboa Crisis Center and I hope they take steps to prevent something similar from happening in the future. Excellent program. Staff are professional, compassionate and understanding. This is a great place to stabilize and find a positive direction in life. There are two staff that stand out above the rest. Dave and Hunter are outstanding staff who go beyond the call of duty to help clients. They are client centered and truly care. Thank you both for making a positive difference in clients life's. Thank you for all your help ❤️

My 21 day stay at vista balboa. I came here not expecting anything. Didn't know what a crisis house was and certainly have never been to one . I came in lost, broken and defeated. The staff( clinicians, peer support, managers, nurses, assistant director) welcomed me with open arms. I felt like I was at home during my stay here. They really care and that is so important when working with mental health. I had a beautiful experience, I got my life back and I know that it wouldn't have been possible with the staff that work here. Thank you♥️
