Health issues can strike quickly and from nowhere, they can linger and become chronic. Dr. Corbin has been my primary since I was reassigned to him years ago and the craziest thing happened— he listened to me. I am a frequent flyer of doctors for the last decade— and when you find a good one- you keep them on the roster. The entire squad at all the SYH locations are brilliant! Dr. Corbin and his team are my home team! Courteous, kind, and through the years some funny anecdotes. I could not be more grateful to Dr. Corbin, Taj, Yolanda, Maria, the front desk, the security guard— each a special character for helping navigate the tedious and painful journey to run smoothly, respectfully, and sprinkled with smiles. There is no better care you can find than with Dr. Corbin & CO. I am and will be forever in your debt. Thanks for hearing me, helping me— and laughing at my jokes. You have helped guide my mind, body, and soul through some epic crises and changes. And the work is not done- because all I am is a piece of work! Thanks team! Forever grateful, G.

There is no better dual diagnoses program than what is provided here. I turned to this vervet when I dig myself into bedrock and ready to drill even further. I had no hope for help, but so dying as I was, I gave life one more chance. I was seen immediately and had a treatment plan developed that suited my needs and interests rather than some prescribed formula. The only challenge I faced was the motivation to show up. After a short amount of time, there was nowhere else I wanted to be than the clinic. The sessions taught me how to develop emotional intelligence, get services I needed to thrive, and get my life where I wanted it. Working on myself became a wonderful and fun journey rather than just something to appease my family. Over time, my mental health began to stabilize, I found sobriety, and I engaged with my spiritual parts. Today, I have been reintegrated with my wife, children, and employment. Everything I was willing to sacrifice for my selfishness became nothing compared to what I got from sobriety. I will forever be thankful for MHS. Without them, I would either be in jail, an institution, or a cemetery.

Restore is a miracle resource. I have been welcomed into its community with open arms, although I am not alumni of Restore. Weekly groups led by Steven promote authenticity, openness, humility and unconditional love. The land and energy at Restore is healing and magical. This place was great, I had a wonderful experience. It's low client, great staff and a safe place for when you truly need it. I specifically enjoyed the low client aspect of it. The groups feel personal and urges you to share and process things once you are done detoxing. Plus the house is beautiful and the property sits on top of a hill far away from any distractions so it is as quiet as North County SD can get. The owner is genuine and cares for your sobriety. Thank you restore and thank you Steven!

Wow, I am so grateful for Restore and the incredible team and their unconditional love! The home is beautiful and the view breathtaking, but the care, connection and joy of the team are the pillars of Restore. I have been to dozens of detox and treatments centers over the last 10 years and Restore is the first place that has helped me get to the heart of the matter- I cannot recover alone. Restore taught me how to work a simple AA program, give my fears away to my god, and speak my truth authentically to connect with others. Restore's program supported my recovery in all facets- mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. And one of the most amazing parts that NO other place offers- it is welcoming FOREVER to alumni! Steven's house meetings are the most powerful tool in my recovery toolbox. I go to Restore at least 2x a week for house meetings along with other alumni and have the joy of seeing Steven, staff, and alumni at outside AA meetings throughout the week. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Restore, for teaching me recovery is possible.

I can honestly say that what Rachel did for me in our individual sessions fundamentally changed the way I understand myself. AToN saved my life, and I don't say that lightly as someone who completed their program two years ago and has stayed sober since. Dr. Kevin's approach to clinical care is unlike anything I encountered in years of outpatient therapy. He has a way of cutting through the noise and getting to what's actually driving the behavior, without ever making you feel judged or reduced. The group sessions, the holistic work, the food, the grounds - all of it creates an environment where healing doesn't just feel possible, it feels inevitable. If you're on the fence, please get off it. This place is the real thing.

I went through the program at AToN and it changed everything. The care, the setting, the people - there is nothing else like it. This disease is insidious - it's doing push-ups and waiting for us to take our guards down. Don't let it ruin your life like it tried to do to mine. I didn't let it and AToN helped me along the way. Thanks.

We are so grateful for the care our daughter received at Evolve Cole Ranch. She truly thrived, growing in confidence, accountability, and self-awareness. The facility is beautiful and creates a peaceful, healing environment. There’s also a positive, uplifting energy—it was important to us that treatment felt like support, not punishment, and Cole Ranch delivered. We especially appreciated the small group setting (only about six kids), which allows for individualized attention and meaningful peer connections. She benefited from both traditional therapy (individual, group, and family) and experiential therapies like equine and surf—she can’t wait to surf again! Most importantly, she left with real skills she’s already using at home. We’re incredibly proud of her and deeply thankful to the entire team—especially her therapist, Charlie, who seemed to know exactly how to connect with her. Ermias was great with and Rafa the chef made her laugh and smile. (I’m not sure I can compete with his cooking!). Thank you to everyone at Cole Ranch—you truly changed her life.

My daughter’s mental health symptoms showed up at age thirteen. It seemed like overnight we went from having a typical child who enjoyed spending time with family, playing with friends, reading books, going on outings to just wanting to die. It was a very scary and confusing place for our family. I tried and tried to find providers who could help her. She went to multiple providers and programs with little change. After our insurance changed, we were able to start treatment at Evolve. From the very beginning, I felt that we were in good hands. The staff are well trained and the program is well designed. My daughter’s behaviors and our family’s communication patterns changed dramatically. After four years of feelings as if I had lost my daughter, I have my daughter back. I’m grateful that the providers at Evolve have extensive knowledge and experience with teens with mental health issues, and we finally got the help we needed!

Evolve did wonders for our teen. I'm sure it's hard for them to get reviews as this is such a private matter. The whole process is utterly heartbreaking. You don't end up here because you wanna be here. That being said they worked with us as a family so well. I really liked that. They involve you in the treatment and try to ensure that you will have the tools necessary to help your child continue on their path of healing. The path is BUMPY, and it heartbreaking. I remember graduating out of program thinking I don't know if I am ready to do it without them. They helped us navigate tough topics and issues our teen would shut down on us with. Helped us see each other's sides. Helped our teen see themeself. When we graduated out were ok and we did move forward on our own. As a family we are so thankful for the staff at Evolve and the forever impact they have made on our child's life. The skills they shared, our kiddo still uses. Our kiddo really had a connection to the staff. There was also a pet lizard that meant a lot to our kiddo. There's so much I could say about this place. But the biggest is just two words FOREVER THANKFUL.

Located in San Diego, California, Soledad House offers women experiencing alcohol and substance use disorder a wide variety of treatment options. Recognizing that women have unique treatment needs, their certified addictions professionals provide holistic and evidenced based treatment options to meet their client’s mind, body and spiritual needs.
I didn’t come to Soledad because I “wanted help.” I came because I was out of options. By the time I made that call, I was completely desperate—emotionally, mentally, and spiritually drained. I felt alone, without hope, and I was slowly killing myself. I thought I had everything I once prayed for but, I could no longer feel joy or happiness. I was in complete darkness and a big black hole that I couldn't dig out of. I wasn’t living anymore… I was just existing and a shell of a person. And that’s when Soledad stepped in—and changed and saved my life. I came into the program not fully honest with myself, stuck in a prison of my own making. I believed leaving my responsibilities was impossible, and I was terrified of judgment. But desperation has a way of opening doors you never thought you’d walk through. With nowhere else to turn, I said yes. From the moment I arrived, the staff, counselors, and volunteers met me with a kind of love I didn’t know how to receive. They showed up for me when I couldn’t show up for myself. They loved me when I couldn’t love myself—and that was the beginning of everything changing. What I gained here goes far beyond putting down alcohol. Yes, alcohol was destroying me—but it was never the real problem. It was my solution to something much deeper. By simply showing up, being willing, and taking suggestions, I started to see patterns I had been blind to my entire life. I realized how much I resented myself. How deeply I hated myself. I never felt like I was enough. I’ve always been a people pleaser. I poured everything I had into others, hoping to feel valued, only to end up feeling rejected, second choice, and alone. I didn’t know how to navigate relationships, and I lived with the belief that if people would just be kind and do what I thought was right, I’d finally be okay. What I didn’t understand was this: when I was pouring into others, I was trying to give them what I so desperately needed myself. I had everyone else’s back—but I never had my own. I set impossible expectations—for myself and for others. I chased perfection, and because perfection doesn’t exist, I was constantly left disappointed. That cycle kept me stuck, resentful, and in pain. This program helped me break that cycle. I'm leaving Soledad a better person—with real tools and a new way of living. I’m equipped to do life. I’ve learned how to pause, how to reflect, and how to respond instead of react. I’m no longer rushing to fix everything. I take life one moment at a time, one day at a time—and I actually find joy in the process. For the first time in my life, I can celebrate myself. I can look in the mirror with confidence, amazement, and strength—and truly believe: I am enough. I am strong. I am amazing. I am beautiful. I am a badass. I look at myself now the way I used to look at people I wished I could be. The pain I carried was anchored deep, and I know this journey doesn’t end here. Recovery is something I’ll continue to prioritize, because I want to keep everything I’ve been given. And what I’ve been given is nothing short of a miracle—my life, my joy, my peace. Not just restored, but better than I’ve ever experienced, even before alcohol. I wake up without panic. I feel calm. I feel grounded. Things that once felt impossible are now manageable. And maybe the greatest gift of all—I finally have my own back. If you’re at a loss… if you’re desperate… if you’re scared, terrified, or worried about what people will think—make the call. This is the place you want to be. Give yourself the chance to live. You will receive more than you ever thought possible. There is something better—and it’s waiting for you here.

Monte Catini was a place where, for the first time in a long time, I felt like I wasn’t just a diagnosis. My treatment team was incredible — supportive, attentive, and genuinely invested in my recovery. The director of nursing, especially, made a huge difference. She listened, she cared, and she helped me feel safe in a body that often didn’t. Most of the staff went above and beyond. I was surrounded by people who made me feel human again, and that mattered more than I can say. That’s why my discharge was so painful. When I spoke up about what I was struggling with — not to act on anything, but to ask for help — I was discharged. It felt like the decision came from fear, not from understanding. I wish the CEO had taken the time to hear me out, to collaborate on a plan instead of making me feel like I no longer belonged there. I didn’t want to leave. I was doing the hard work. I just needed more support — not a closed door. Despite how it ended, I’m still grateful for the care I received at Monte. I grew a lot during my time there, and many of the people I met left a lasting impact on me. I just wish I had been given the chance to stay and keep going.

Montecatini Review – by Kelley Goode Montecatini was, for me, a place of deep transformation, held together by a handful of truly extraordinary people. I came in uncertain, fragile, and afraid—but there were individuals there who showed up for me in powerful and lasting ways. Alixe, my therapist, was nothing short of phenomenal. Her ability to cut through the noise and get to the heart of things is a gift. She is fierce, insightful, and deeply compassionate—a force to be reckoned with. The work I did with her was some of the most meaningful therapy I’ve ever had, and I will carry it with me always. Janel, who served as one of the house moms, held such a loving and nurturing presence. Her warmth, humor, and grounded care made all the difference on hard days. I will be eternally grateful for her steady kindness and for the way she made the house feel like a safe place to land. Lexi is an intelligent and wise woman who clearly lives by her values. Natalie has a heart of gold while still being able to “throw down” when needed—fierce and loving in equal measure. Katie brings together wit, intelligence, and humor in a way that makes her instantly magnetic. Emily, although officially the exercise physiologist, could easily be a therapist with her deep ability to listen and truly hear people. Glee made me feel seen every single day, simply by saying hello each time we passed. Yasmine is elegance defined, with a wicked sense of humor that always made me smile. Dr. Morache is one of the kindest, funniest, most loving men I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting—an absolute gem in the field. The BHA team are the backbone of the program—dedicated, tireless, and deeply compassionate. The nurses bust their butts in a very hard situation, and their work deserves immense respect and recognition. Not everything was perfect—particularly the food, which often felt like an afterthought in an environment where nourishment is central to healing. But despite that, the human beings at Monte—those who truly show up—are what made the experience valuable. To those staff members who gave their full hearts: thank you. You helped me find parts of myself I thought I had lost.

JOSE, PETE, MARIO AND NADIA along with every member of the staff is ABSOLUTELY UNDER PAID FOR THE CARE THEY PROVIDE, THEY NOT ONLY LITERALLY SAVED MY LIFE (NO EXAGGERATION) BUT THEY MADE ME FEEL LIKE FAMILY FOR THE SHORT TIME I WAS THERE, I OWE MY LIFE TO THE WHOLE ENTIRE STAFF, if it were not for paradise I know I wouldn't be alive, the words THANK YOU and GREATFUL do NOT suffice what that staff means to me and what they are worth, you have a TEAM OF NOTHING BUT ROCKSTARS THERE THAT GO ABOVE AND WAY BEYOND WHAT THEY NEED TO, THEY NEVER DO THE BARE MINIMUM TO GET BY BUT INSTEAD THEY TREAT YOU LIKE YOU MATTER, LIKE YOUR SOMEONE SPECIAL AND THAT IS PRICELESS, when your a recovering addic you already have no self-esteem, self respect or self worth but the staff helps you not only recover but they also help you get all the self worth, respect and esteem back as well, I could go on forever so I'll leave it with this, PARADISE ISN'T JUST A REHAB / DETOX FACILITY BUT ITS ALSO A PLACE THAT TREATS YOU LIKE YOU MATTER AND AS A ADDIC THAT MEANS EVERYTHING!!! The people that make up the team at Brightquest are some of the most compassionate, patient and caring people you’ll come across. Simon in admissions takes the time to understand what’s going on with your loved one and how to get them from point A to point B. He really cares and takes the time to understand the whole picture. Rey is one of the client care coordinators at Brightquest and he takes the time to build rapport with each and every one of the clients. You will be able to quickly tell Rey has a huge love for simply helping people.

Overall, Brightquest seems to have the potential to be a beautiful place if you make it one and if all those involved (parent, client, referrant, etc) fall under-- to each's own capacity-- a conjoined understanding of what enrolling into the facility truly entails before onboarding. Top of the Line professionals in terms of medical, psychiatric, directorial staff, and coordinators. In the San Diego office, administrative advision and onboarding facilitators seemed to be - at a minimum - understaffed, underprepared, rushed... disjointed, disoriented - retaining inconsistent speech and tonal behaviors. First day, as most everyone will tell you, is definitely whiplashy; so be prepared. Most, if not all therapists are pretty fantastic, though there's a healthy sprinkling that will likely benefit from more seasoning or better balance when it comes to working with the clientele that comes through the facility--especially considering the severity of what Brightquest's treatment plans offer. Resolution could see steps towards improvement with a simple forum on situational and environmental threats, could addtly. benefit from the inclusion of more proactive superiors. (aside from weekly staff meetings which seem to not be too productive, I really just believe there should be a massive overhaul/addition to supervising faculty, or an increase in physical foot traction of prior mentioned superiors, wherever they're holding these mystery figures. Yes, it is true from what I've read in other reviews that plenty key players are conveniently often on vacation. Website also needs an update.) I definitely think that clients should have a say in who they work with throughout their time in treatment, if afforded the luxury-- e.g. building or altering their own teams. The option of choice and communication does so much for clients in a space with inconsistent, often seemingly unclear boundaries and assistance. Also, on the DEI note, not very accommodating in terms of practicing religion. Last and certainly MOST important. If at this point you have any retainer hesitations-- great resources, work study programming, activities, group sessions, and residential function is a very intelligent, strategic layout. Each individual playing a hand in house management, whether that be house managers themselves, night staff, or especially nurse Theresa (who is working 24/7!) are diamonds in the rough of it all. At the end of a long day, throughout any level, at Brightquest (with the right treatment and mentality) you can fall on the network you've built for yourself within the community there. I truly do hope to see the team at BQ San Diego weed out some of the bad parts, as there is so much light and an outpouring of love and friendship in the work done there.

Vista Balboa Crisis Center is a crisis residential treatment program in San Diego, California offering short term stabilization for adults experiencing psychiatric emergencies. I wanted to leave this long review with the hope that someone at the center would take it seriously and learn from it. To begin, I gained entry to this program because a doctor recommended me. And honestly? It was the best thing to happen to me that year. The staff is friendly and kind, and they will connect you to lots of resources. That said, there is always room for improvement. For the record, I was homeless when I entered this program (I’m not anymore) due to having lost my job during CO VID. I am an educated woman with a BA in English literature and a survivor of long term narcissistic abuse. My criticism of Balboa Crisis Center is that they don’t enforce the rules! Clients are supposed to attend groups, participate in chores, and respect other people’s food in the fridge. I had a roommate who did the exact opposite and was allowed to stay in the center for a very long time, instead of being kicked out as she should have been. One day she became randomly angry at me and started stealing my food out of the fridge. By this point I realized she was a narcissist – as in, she had full blown NPD – and had imagined some insult from me against her, which narcissists are known to do, often because they are projecting. When I told the staff about this, nothing was done. So I did what I could to minimize the situation by avoiding my roommate as much as possible and asking to be moved to another room. What the staff should have done was exit VICTORIA from the program, instead of allowing her to stay, steal food, shirk chores, and claim a bed that someone else needed more. I was allowed to stay a long time myself, but the end of my stay was coming, and I would be homeless on the street again. I was very upset about the prospect, and Victoria knew this. As I walked past her in the kitchen, she sarcastically said “Bye!” as a passive aggressive way of mocking me for being homeless again soon. This is how narcissists operate, through plausible deniability. I couldn’t prove that she was mocking me because she had been passive aggressive about it. It was covert, reactive abuse. Suddenly sick of always attracting narcissistic bullies into my life, I wheeled back around and asked her what was wrong with her. I think it was at this point that she realized she may have IMAGINED whatever she was mad at me for. She started insisting that she meant nothing by it,that she was just saying goodbye (lies). Things escalated to the point that I picked up a cup from the table and threw it at her (she thought it would be funny to get in my face). I was sick and tired of narcissists. I’ve been abused by a LOT of them and they are drawn to me because I’m quiet, shy, and a loner, the perfect candidate for covert abuse. Well, not anymore. Everyone acted like I was crazy and imagined Victoria’s behavior, but I know the truth. She stole from me and made me do her chores for weeks, then had the gall to mock me about being exited, and when I finally snapped, tried to make herself out to be the victim. How do I know Victoria was the one stealing? I SAW her sitting in bed eating cake she had stolen. I SAW her in the kitchen looking guilty when everyone else was in group. I SAW her smirking in triumph when Christopher was complaining about someone stealing his ice cream. To anyone who was paying attention, it was obvious that Victoria was the theif. Classic narcissist behavior. And since the staff is made up of psych students, I hope they read this and learn something about narcissists. So on top of being in a crisis (homelessness), I put up with abuse from narcissistic Victoria AND bullying from some of the women on staff, women who were jealous, petty, and insecure. It was a lot to deal with at the time, and with Victoria actively provoking me, it's no wonder I finally snapped. Did anyone there see me with empathy at all? You know, as a human being with feelings? Either way, I am still grateful to Balboa Crisis Center and I hope they take steps to prevent something similar from happening in the future. Yes, this is Ashley. =)

My 21 day stay at vista balboa. I came here not expecting anything. Didn't know what a crisis house was and certainly have never been to one . I came in lost, broken and defeated. The staff( clinicians, peer support, managers, nurses, assistant director) welcomed me with open arms. I felt like I was at home during my stay here. They really care and that is so important when working with mental health. I had a beautiful experience, I got my life back and I know that it wouldn't have been possible with the staff that work here. Thank you♥️

Downtown Family Health Center and Dr. Matthew Lloyd is nothing short of life-saving.When I first came here, I had not seen a doctor in over two decades and was in active fentanyl addiction. Today, thanks to this incredible team, I am alive, healthy, and building a future. Dr. Matthew Lloyd and his medical assistant Rose have provided me with the highest level of care I have ever experienced. From the very beginning, they treated me with dignity and respect at a time when I could barely show up for myself. I still receive their services regularly — in fact, I’m there once or twice a week — and every single visit I feel valued, cared for, and supported. Dr. Lloyd’s medical knowledge combined with Rose’s compassion and efficiency make me feel like I am in the very best hands. On top of that, Erin G., the SUD counselor and supervisor of the MAT program, has been a guiding light. Her encouragement and wisdom have carried me through some of my hardest days, and her dedication to patients like me is unmatched. What this team has done for me cannot be measured. They didn’t just provide medical treatment — they gave me back my health, my self-respect, and my hope. The care here is truly world-class. I will never stop being grateful to Dr. Lloyd, Rose, Erin, and the entire Downtown Family Health Center staff. They are heroes in every sense of the word. If you are looking for a place where you will be seen, heard, respected, and genuinely cared for, this is it. I recommend them with all my heart.
