I m an interventionist and have been working in the treatment field for about seven years. I ve dealt with a lot of treatment centers, and I have a tough case right now but Bryan in Admissions over at White Sands has been incredibly helpful. He s gone above and beyond to work with me to get this kid into detox and to help him stay there, even being flexible with his apprehension and resistance. I highly recommend White Sands especially if you ve got Bryan working on your case.

Excellent Treatment Facility. From the Therapists to the Medical Staff and BHTs , they are there to support on all aspects of your treatment. They give you the tools to set you up for success! The facility is beautiful, lovely accommodations, and great meals. I highly recommend if you are looking for a 30 day inpatient center. They also offer PHP, Sober Living and IOP programs. Nightly AA/NA/CA meetings are held. So thankful I found White Sands!

Accepted Insurance

WhiteSands Treatment, Fort Myers works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal. The length of stay at the detoxification program is determined according to the specific needs of the patient.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) is a modality based on strengthening moral reasoning, that can be used in substance abuse treatment. Originally created to help criminal offenders stop committing crimes, it is a structured approach that includes both group and individual counseling, as well as homework exercises. The MRT workbook is structured around 16 steps (units) focusing on 7 treatment issues, including building a healthy, positive identity; developing a higher frustration tolerance; and forming a strong moral belief structure. Participants meet 1-2 times weekly in groups, and can complete all steps of the MRT program in 3-6 months.

I just cannot say enough about the staff and facilities at White Sands Ft Myers - absolutely world class. Look, not everyone is “excited” to visit a treatment facility but in the case of White Sands Ft Myers you should be! You absolutely should be! It’s a priceless opportunity to spend 4 weeks of very intense very high quality time healing and focusing on becoming a better person, the best person you can be - everyone could benefit from 4 weeks in Ft Myers, absolutely everyone! It’s such a gift and I will remember my time there as some of the most important weeks of my entire life - and no, that is not an exaggeration! If you are considering treatment I can’t imagine there being a better choice anywhere in the US (not just Florida) than White Sands Ft Myers.

I only gave it one start because that's the minimum. DO NOT go to this place. You're just a blank check from an insurance company to them. So, after they take your money, ID, and luggage, you are essentially held against your will while they use you to bill your insurance company even more. Of course, this is after the VERY thorough strip search, but before they tell you that they'll only pay for your flight home if you stay for the completely arbitrary amount of time they decided upon. My best advice is to just take the free ticket to Florida, don't go to the facility in the first place, and just enjoy some time in Florida on them. They have absolutely no problem lying to you, so fair is fair.

White Sands was the best thing that ever happened in my life to recover. I was actively drinking for 6 years, 24/7. I hit my bottom, literally March 2024. I spent a week in the hospital, a week in detox. I had no other choice but to give in and go to treatment at White Sands in Plant City. It was amazing! The staff was great and helpful. The classes were all day every day and very informative with facing my alcoholism. The therapists were awesome. After 28 days I chose to move on to PHP for more classes and therapy sessions. PHP brought me into IOP for intense classes with 3 wonderful therapists and one on one with my therapist. I chose to extend my IOP to help my transition into the real world. I was housed, I was taught how to live a sober life. I still am as I am 14 months sober. I owe my life to White Sands.

On 04/20/2025 I celebrated 1 ur clean with the help I received at White Sands treatment center. I went to rehab in Plant City for 30 days, then to their PHP facility in Fort Myers for 6 weeks , then to their IOP program on Cape Coral for another 6 weeks. I thank God I did, I participated in class and did what I was told (for the most part (😂)..... Seriously, if you want help this is a wonderful program that help save my life, I strongly recommend them. They have amazing staff who care and will make time for you, you are not just a dolllar sign to them. They have amazing therapists, case workers, directors, just all the way down the line. If you're really ready to give up that horrible way of life and change for the better and willing to put in some work and not get caught up in the BS drama this is the place that will help you. Do yourself a and your friends and family and give them a try...it works...I am LIVING proof!!!!
