About Lighthouse Detox – Jupiter Medical Center

Lighthouse Detox – Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, Florida, was a program that helped adults safely wean their bodies off of alcohol or chemical dependency. They offered detox and inpatient treatment and served as the first step in addiction recovery for adults who were ready to turn over a new leaf.

Lighthouse Detox has closed down permanently. However, the Jupiter Medical Center is still in operation, providing a variety of medical and health and wellness services.

Medically Supervised Detoxification

The core of Lighthouse Detox was helping adults safely wean their bodies off of their chemical dependency. This was done through the use of medically supervised detox support by highly trained and experienced staff.

Once your body was stabilized, you would have received other therapies including counseling and medication assisted treatment if it was required. They also offered holistic therapies such as yoga, vibroacoustic therapy and massage therapy.

Short Term Inpatient Care

Because this was a detox facility, many of the clients who sought services here stayed an average of 5 to 7 days. After this they would have been connected to other recovery and outpatient programs in the community.

Compassionate Care

This program was deeply rooted in evidence-based clinical practices, and the care team here was known as incredibly compassionate and kind. Through counseling and other services, they addressed your emotional and social needs.

Adding to the personalized care was the size of the program. It was a smaller unit with an average of 15 clients at any given time receiving services here.

Most experiences are good buy if you ever and I mean ever want to reach someone to talk to it is all but impossible. I tried mutible times to reach two different departments and never cound reach a Human and then it reached 5pm with not luck. My suggestion is for JMC to use the service many others use in todays market which is the machine makes not of your phone number and rather than stay on hold the rest of your lift they can retrieve your number and call you back. I have one line and I can not tie it up for hours on hold with JMC. The good feeling I used to have about JMC went right out the window and I am scared to use their services as after they become unreachable so you can not follow up on anything. To be honest one dept. was billing so I have decided that it is not worth the trouble to try to pay my past due bill as if they never answer tells me they do not need my money and I assure you, track it as I now refuse to pay the past due amount and if they call me I will say please hold and never go back to my phone and let them experience what I have to when I call them. JMC go ahead and turn me over to collections as I will not be paying. Palm Beach Gardens Hosp. I will see you guys next time I have a health issue and at 68 I know I will. BY....

I would give 0 stars. Dr. Ryan Simovitch operated on me and he is the foremost ortho surgeon in the US. I have zero complaints about he and his staff and would give Dr. Simovitch 100 stars. Jupiter Medical is apparently where he operates. I requested my personal and private health information which Jupiter sent to a stranger. In return, I got another patient's private and personal information. Jim Mears, Jupiter's Compliance officer's response? "It happens all the time". Really? They just willy nilly send out highly personal medical and financial information to strangers? No apology and I still do not know where my information was sent. As for the bill, they billed me almost $2,000 more then they billed my insurance company. They are not allowed to do that legally. When questioned, I was told in WRITING by Jupiter that the discrepancy was in "late charges". Interesting since according to my insurance company, the claim was received Nov 19 and was paid Nov 28. Not sure how that is the definition of "late". In addition, the bills(s) made no mention of "late charges" and, in fact, the amount of the discrepancy added up to lab fees that were not charged to my insurance company, as verified with them, with the bill in front of me. The bill also stated that the charge for a "private" room was "verified and valid" according to "Maura" who is reportedly the Director of Finance at Jupiter. Funny thing about that, despite her writing that the private room charge was "verified and valid", my insurance company verified that they had been charged for a semi-private room, not a private room. I was also charged for a Stryker hip kit per my bill. Interestingly as I had a shoulder replacement and the products used where Anthrex, not Stryker brand. And while I may not be a doctor, I am pretty sure even I can tell the difference between a hip and a shoulder. Do not bother to call "Patient Experience" as, they are low paid high school graduates that do no more then answer the phone and pass your concerns along with no follow up. Some of those folks (Vanessa) are kind and try to help, others, (Anthony and Renee) are rude and lack common sense and manners. And if they tell you that you will hear back in 24-48 hours, do not believe it because it will not happen, ask to see my phone log. If you would like to elevate this situation to the patient Experience manager, "Michelle", she does not return calls either. What happened to me, in my opinion, is disingenuous at best and billing fraud at worst. I would be hard pressed to return to Jupiter even if I was bleeding out across the street from the ER, that is how badly I feel they treat patients. Patients DESERVE and honest Accounting of their bills and, the DESEVE to have private medical information protected from others. If Jupiter cannot even manage to do the small things correctly, how do we trust them with the big things? (I have sent a certified letter to the mystery person at Patient Experience, since none of their correspondence is signed. That letter was copied to both the Jupiter CEO and Dr. Simovitch. (I notice another one of his patients had a bad experience as evidenced by a review here. Let it also be known that nay kind of orthopedic surgery is a money maker for hospitals. Hospitals turn a HUGE profit margin on orthopedic procedures, even if you are honest in your billing. I would guess that theta might put Dr. S in the drivers seat.) I will update this review if I hear any response from Jupiter. In the mean while, I am more then happy to share the documents in my possession showing exactly what happened and Jupiter's response - just ask. Do note that I will not share the other patients information as that would not be nice or ethical. I do not say things that I cannot prove....in writing.) Lastly, in my opinion, stay away from Jupiter, in my opinion, they are 1 death or lawsuit away their next outcome.

I've been to many hospitals in my 68 years, from Maine to Boston to South Florida. I've been to three including overnight stays in the WPB area.I will never stay in any here otherwise than Jupiter medical center. Each time here Everyone, including front desk employees, nurses, doctors and technicians were ALL friendly, professional , polite, inviting and skilled.Your entire nursing staff is the very best I've ever encountered. Today I had quad tendon repair surgery following a total knee revision I had done three months ago. It looks like I got a bit aggressive in my rehab and suffered a rare tear.Iwas seen the day after my therapy session by my doctor, had an MRI the same day with surgery the following day.All staff at Dr Akermans office and Jupiter medical center were extremely sensitive to my obvious nervousness and got me through this ordeal with compassion and understanding. They made it much more tolerable.I sincerely thank every person who helped guide me through this unpleasant surgery. My surgeon and his staff are first class! I leave it at that as I'm preparing that review for Dr Akerman and his staffThank you again

Accepted Insurance

Lighthouse Detox – Jupiter Medical Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Florida provides quality treatment to help individuals overcome dependency related to a wide range of addictive substances. Programs address both the physical and mental aspects of addiction in order to help you make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

The nursing and general hospital staff at Jupiter Hospital were overall decent and compassionate, which I genuinely appreciated during a difficult time. Their care for patients was evident in many interactions, and I want to acknowledge the individuals who worked hard to provide comfort and basic care. However, my experience with the hospital’s social work and case management departments was deeply disappointing. If you are accompanying an elderly parent, especially one with Alzheimer’s or other cognitive challenges, I strongly advise you to be prepared to advocate hard on your own—because the support you should expect may not be there. Despite emailing Director Regina Fyke to raise serious concerns, I received no response at all. This lack of acknowledgment from leadership was disheartening. Stephanie did not adhere to Medicare rules regarding a patient’s right to choose a preferred facility, and Kimberly failed to assist with the Medicare discharge process—even after I repeatedly asked for clarity on discharge plans and safety measures required by Medicare standards. Nicole was the only case manager who made an effort to help and was honest in sharing that no notes had been entered in my mother’s file. That explained why my mother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, was approached at her bedside with pressure to go home—without any family consultation or proper communication. That was both distressing and unacceptable. The lack of communication and coordination among the social work staff was striking—and loud. It is clear that if you’re navigating this system with a vulnerable family member, you will likely be left to do the heavy lifting yourself. That shouldn’t be the case in a hospital setting. In short: decent clinical staff, but be cautious and proactive regarding discharge planning and social work support. Don’t expect meaningful help from leadership or case management if issues arise.

Careful with emergency care. Nurses are unprofessional and ER Dr are worse! Hospitalists are good once you get out of the ER! As an RN NO ER visits again! Beyond anything I’ve seen in my entire career!

I called to schedule a CT Scan. Was quoted $300 for self pay. I confirmed twice (once over the phone and at the time of service) the cost. They confirmed both times. I paid the fee before I started the CT scan. Three days later, I get an additional invoice for $742! A little maddening. Very deceptive and frustrating. Won’t be going back.

“Dr” Canik is a JOKE! She tells people to understand there is no hope, she was unable to diagnose MSSA (which he got from the biopsy she insisted he have for cancer. Which he ended up not having) and then tried to insist it was not MSSA and wasn’t able to find the right medication to help my father. They had to call in an infectious disease Dr. and HE had to the have nurse literally rip the IV out with the meds she prescribed because it was doing nothing but causing more problems. Finally the new doctor was able to get my dad on the mend but I’m sorry Canik is an embarrassment. She’s rude, she’s wrong and she’s a HUGE disservice to the hospital. Please rethink your choices while hiring!!!!! Also she avoids talking to the patients when the family is there. She comes before or after visiting hours. Especially when she has to admit she is WRONG!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:

I've been to this hospital for emergency services for my family and had a dear friend stay here as well. Everyone was treated with kindness and professionalism. When they moved my friend from the hospital to hospice, I was amazed at how beautiful his transition was because of the amazing staff. Great hospital!

I would like to commend the exceptional customer service provided by Twan Richards at the radiology scheduling desk. I hand delivered a Stat radiology Rx to Twan from a physician outside the JMC system. Twan immediately recognized that the Rx was flawed and that the event could not be scheduled. After consulting with her supervisor, Twan pointed out to me where the Rx was flawed. Twan called the prescribing physician and related the error in the Rx. Long story short...in just a few hours time the Rx was corrected and the event was scheduled all due to Twan's professionalism and tenacity. I own a small business and it is RARE that when I interact with a customer service rep I am served as well as I serve my customers. Twan's customer service skill set is exceptional. Thank you Twan!!! *************************************************** Update on April 15th, 2025 My wife was recently Emergency Room admitted at Jupiter Medical Center for a neurological issue. She was treated by Neurologist Dr. Abdullah Bin Zahid. Dr Zahid is one of the finest physicians I have ever interacted with...and I am stating this after a very long term relationship with some of the world's best physicians at MD Anderson, Houston. Dr. Zahid is an MD Anderson level practitioner in my opinion. He is a very intelligent physician. His work ethic is phenomenal. He is very approachable. His bedside manner and his ability to communicate complex medical issues on the patient's level is exceptional. Dr. Zahid could easily be practicing at any flagship national medical center. That he is at Jupiter Medical Center is a gift to his patients. JMC is VERY lucky to have him on staff. Thank you Dr Zahid!!!!! ******************************************* 2nd Update on April 15th, 2025 I need to mention a few other exceptional providers from my wife's recent visit. I will be following up with a few Starfish Award nominations and a personal letter of thanks to Julia Click highlighting the JMC superstars we interacted with. 1. Dr Tony Bruno; the on call ER Physician at time of admittance to the ER. Calm, cool as a cucumber under pressure, met with me multiple times as my wife was worked up in the ER. Just a great guy! 2. Dr. Gordana Bjekic; the Critical Care Physician that took over my wife's case in the ER. Also very calm, very reassuring, met with me multiple times before my wife transferred to ICU. 3. Dr. Marek Galzka; the Critical Care Physician in the ICU. Took over immediately when my wife arrived in the ICU. Very thorough and also a great communicator. Very reassuring. 4. Dr. Michael J. Agatstein; the ICU Internist. Great bedside manner. Very thorough making sure all efforts were coordinated and that my wife received the best care. Every Physician we interacted with was very technically competent, very personable, empathetic, strong communicators who all took their time to explain the various issues on a patient/lay person level, and most importantly...rock solid under pressure. I also must point out that the JMC ICU nursing staff is a well oiled machine of some of the kindest, most caring, hardest working nurses I have ever interacted with. I will share all their names with Julia in my letter. I cannot thank the ENTIRE staff at Jupiter Medical Center enough for taking such great care of my wife. Thank you all! ******************************************* 3rd Update April 27th, 2025 Met last week with my wife's two primary doctors at MD Anderson Houston. Both doctors had consulted with JMC Neurologist Dr. Abdullah Bin Zahid.during my wife's inpatient admission April 11-17. Both MD Anderson doctors told us how very impressed they were with JMC Neurologist Dr. Abdullah Bin Zahid. It takes A LOT to impress a full Professor, PhD/MD at MD Anderson. One of the MDA doctors commented...We only do cancer at MD Anderson, but we have partner hospitals here at the Texas Medical Center who would be thrilled to have a neurologist of Dr Abdullah Bin Zahid's caliber.

I’m 37 weeks and 5 days pregnant, I went to the ER sometimes around 11ish because I had pink spotting, as I was instructed by my OB, I got there and showed the nurses pictures because I felt like without pictures they wouldn't believe you. After a while Dr. Antoine, Vanessa, MD Walk in with an attitude like I did something to her, my friend asked me do I knew her, and I responded Why, Dr. asked me why I was here, I was trying to tell her, she cut me off and said oh I heard you got pictures, I pull out my phone and showed her she said that was my mucus plug, my mucus fall out when I was 32wks because I took 2 injections at Wellington Hospital in case my baby come early. As she continued she sat on the right side of my bed to check if I was dilated she told me I was 1 or 2 dilated, and I asked her what do you mean by one or two. That is not an answer, mind you I went to my OB on 4/24/25 he told me I was 3cm dilated, I went to the ER on 4/25/25, so I asked what to do because my OB told me if I was spotting like pink and red go to the ER. Dr. Antoine, Vanessa, MD responded and stated if I don't see blood like my period on don't come, that pissed me off, she walks in with an attitude thought she knew somewhere or I slept with her husband or something, she was not in my room for more than 2min and she told to go home until my water break or I see blood, any pregnant mother would’ve felt away knowing you close to your due date and you see blood for a doctor to tell you don’t come back until you see blood. So yes I left the hospital upset without a discharge paper

I was actually reluctant to go to Jupiter Medical Center after reading some of the reviews. However, my medical experience there was superb. The only glitch was when checking in, the individual asked me for my birthdate threr times, tried to put the wristband on my husband and then said I was admitted with a cough when it was actually abdominal pain. This was concerning, However, Every medical professional I met there was excellent. The two Becky‘s were great, Bob in the CAT scan room was pleasant,. And James the phlebotomist was very good and put me at ease. Dr. Timothy Allison was professional, cordial and comprehensive. He even took the time to recommend a physician in the area. Although I own a home here, I am from out of state and know my local medical professionals at my regional hospital. However, I would go to Jupiter Medical Center without hesitation. I was there for 5 hours, but I had a lot of tests and scans. While there, aids offer water and warm blankets! Other than the weird sign in - it was excellent! ** I only knew I was admitted for a cough because of the diligence of one of the professionals at the center. They told me they outsourced the intake person.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. So sorry for the glitch in checking in, we'll address that issue. Your comments will be shared with Dr. Allison and the emergency department team.

I was at this hospital for removal of water on my brain due to a fall earlier this year. The surgeon put in a shunt to take out the water. Of course, this is a very painful surgery, but I can’t imagine being at a different hospital having to go through that because all of these employees at Jupiter hospital were fantastic. If I called for them, they didn’t make me wait and wait and wait. They’re all very, very pleasant. The food was mostly good. The Employees in the kitchen were great. The month Before I had gone to Gardens hospital. The treatment there was terrible and I couldn’t imagine having to have my surgery done in a place like that. Praise God for Jupiter medical Center and all of it’semployees. From the ones who meet you to those who send you on your way back home!
