About Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital

Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital offers acute treatment for mental health and behavioral health concerns including substance use. You can find them on the Silver Cross Hospital campus in New Lenox, Illinois.

They offer inpatient chemical detox and specialized addiction programs for adults and pregnant or new mothers. While their addiction treatment primarily serves adults, they also have mental health programs for teenagers and older adults.

Different Types of Group Support

Something great about Silver Oaks is that they help you connect with people experiencing similar challenges to you. In group therapy sessions, you and other patients will discuss recovery under the guidance of a trained addiction therapist. You’ll learn helpful coping mechanisms, analyze healthy and unhealthy behavior patterns, and share in a safe and educational environment.

Process groups are slightly more informal gatherings which also give you the chance to share with similar patients. These sessions focus more on sharing your personal feelings and experiences and encouraging each other.

Practical, Evidence-Based Therapy Modalities Outside Chicago

They use several treatment modalities in individual and group therapy sessions here, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). The CBT techniques used in Silver Oaks focus on teaching you to manage your thoughts so that they positively influence your moods and behaviors. You’ll learn to work through unhelpful thoughts in real time, aiding your sobriety journey.

Their DBT techniques are similar, but place more emphasis on emotional regulation and mindfulness. Your therapist will teach you methods for tolerating discomfort and distress without turning to substance use as a coping mechanism.

I would give zero stars if I could. I had one of the worst experiences at this hospital. I ended up waiting over six hours just to be seen by a doctor. The waiting room wasn’t packed, but there was little communication from staff about why the delays were so extreme. People who arrived after me were seen before me, and no one explained why. By the time I finally got into a room, I was exhausted, frustrated, and honestly felt like the hospital didn’t care at all about patient comfort or urgency. Six hours is completely unacceptable, especially when you’re sick, scared, and just want medical help. I understand emergencies happen, but there needs to be better organization, communication, and respect for patients’ time. I will seriously think twice before ever coming back here, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless it’s absolutely the last option.

This hospital is innately unprofessional because they ignore their motto of treating you the way you should be treated. Instead, you are treated like a number, just another sheep in the herd. There is no way that it is acceptable to have testing take almost 4 hours and then have to wait more than 4 hours to get the results and have a physical exam. We're STILL WAITING! This is gross negligence OF THE HIGHEST DEGREE! Why can't this hospital hire enough people to properly take care of patients? Why are we forced to sit next to people with apparent communicable diseases when we don't have a communicable disease? Why are patients that are bleeding and should be on a hospital bed, in a ROOM, bleeding on the patient waiting room sofa instead? Why are patients that come in hacking up a lung, not put in a room immediately and quarantined? At 6p, I'm waiting to speak with the charge nurse and it's almost 7p with no charge nurse in sight!!! GROSS NEGLIGENCE!!! STILL WAITING FOR RESULTS!!! I've told them my dad is trying to beat cancer and has to be well enough to have a stent put in and WE'RE LITERALLY STUCK HERE ALL DAY LIKE HOSTAGES NEXT TO PEOPLE COUGHING LIKE THEY HAVE THE PLAGUE!!!

Accepted Insurance

Silver Oaks Behavioral Hospital works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) enable clients to receive high-level care while living at home. Clients may choose to enter IOP instead of enrolling in inpatient care post-detox or they may transition from an inpatient rehab into IOP. Intensive outpatient treatment involves multiple therapeutic sessions per week and includes a combination of psychotherapy and addiction and recovery education. Many programs also offer medication assisted treatment (MAT) and/or holistic therapies, such as acupuncture and massage.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

As a flexible option, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is tailored for those who don't require 24-hour care. PHP treatment can include daily therapeutic sessions and services such as relapse prevention and medication management. Based on your needs, PHP treatment duration can average 90 days and require a minimum of 20 hours of commitment weekly. While a partial hospitalization program typically requires a commute, telehealth may be available. PHP treatment costs can vary but are often covered by most insurance.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

During the medically supervised detox process, licensed medical professionals monitor your vitals and administer medications meant to help alleviate the physical symptoms of withdrawal. The process can take between five and seven days, although the actual length depends on your individual needs. In most cases, medically assisted detox is partially, if not fully, covered by insurance.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Motivational interviewing in Illinois is person centered and collaborative. This method allows the therapist to come alongside the client to address the issue of ambivalence toward change. By listening and reflecting, the therapist helps the client see the need for change and commit to making changes.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

My wife has had many surgeries over the past 5 yrs even this same surgery with the same doctor. This is her first and last at silver cross . She denied access to her service dog ( violation of federal law) and was treated extremely rude . No other hospital has ever denied her excess for her service dog . They wanted the dog to leave the waiting area asking for papers for the dog ( violation of federal law) . Then they just left her in recovery without her family or service dog which she needs . Northwestern , St Joseph, Rush and Palos all gave her dog access. I'm now filing complaints with the state and federal government. Don't believe the bs about this hospital caring about patients.

I am utterly disgusted by the wait that my son had to experience at silver cross hospital !!!!!! It’s called , emergency for good reason and he absolutely was not given any treatment as an emergency. He couldn’t even walk into the hospital on his own as well as the experience of , chest pains. 5 hours is how long he waited to be called into a room , which is totally unacceptable. I spoke with the house manager by the name of , Katie P and she literally had no remorse to the situation and basically justified our experience. Totally unacceptable! It just didn’t end there in the er. My son was admitted and I am utterly disgusted by the treatment that he was given. I just have to call it what it is …..exuded much racial disparity.

Im so mad I went to ER because i have a bad migraine the doctor Scheetz PA, Gayle send me home with a prescription that she forgot to sing, so when I went to the pharmacy they told me that they contacted her and let her know that they need her authorization well she told them to just cancel my medication tramadol and to let me know that i can take ibuprofen instead. Really they know that ibuprofen does nothing to me, migraines are not cured with over the counter meds, that doctor is unprofessional! Even the pharmacist was surprised because she canceled my medication knowing my condition. They need to be more compassionate and try to help their patients instead of make cancellations.

My mom was there for 4 days.. I called, I visited, NOT ONE NURSE OR DOCTOR, spoke to me about my mom's status or her care. The social worker called me three and was the only helpful person I came across. 2 stars is to generous imo.

Silver cross medical group has become so dysfunctional It's a shame what they put you through on the phone pleading for results 2 weeks to get someone to even read it. All excuses about being behind no one calls back . I've been loyal to you it's a shame that you made me feel this way. To top it off they have a nurse call me not the doctor. So disappointed!

Absolute trash. From a person who has actually worked in hospitals I will tell you that this hospital is nothing but a corporate facade. Their doctors don't care about you and their bedside manner will prove it to you. You got some good nurses but honestly most people there are miserable because the place is miserable so therefore they don't care about you. I turned down a job from this "hospital" because of just how miserable the workers/interviewers there were during interviews. After trying to receive health care multiple times each time was a nightmare of epic proportions. I witnessed an ER doctor admit to the cause of a woman's miscarriage, and he casually apologized for it in the hallway discreetly scoffing it off telling her she could try again and this happens in ERs all the time. I was admitted for a few days and was ignored by the doctor for almost 2 days while he was overdosing me with potassium(for no reason to the situation) and the nurses were going by the last told doctor's orders without response even though it was killing me. They were under orders. One nurse secretly instructed me to just rip everything out and walk out..and I did. I reluctantly had to go to the ER year later and it being local I had no choice... Boy, was that a mistake. They lied to me about tests results... Because I actually have two different conditions that are obvious to x-rays and they did not see them. In fact, when I mentioned it to them they looked at me puzzled... Denied that I had scarring on my lungs from an incident years ago that Rush Medical and Franciscan both confirm in this reality happened. And confirmed blockage in my right coronary artery that was confirmed a year previously.. they denied that these things, after the test they did, even exist. ??? But also admitted that they DID confused my charts with someone elses.. on two different occasions... And they shrugged it off. They were doing whatever they could to kick me out the door and bill me as soon as possible.. which they did. I saw/heard/smelled the ER let a guy defecate himself all the while more concerned about who's all going on break instead of helping him crying for help to the bathroom, cleaning up, But instead removed one patient from their room to put him in that clean one.. delaying the one patient's service(which was a heart condition) for over an hour until they move said patient back into the room that was defecated in again... It is a mess of a hospital with poor care, no compassion, little professionalism, and it is greedy company navigated through the Duly health system... Which is all trash. Save yourself and do not go to this hospital. Also, they do not use connected information software with other hospitals. Your records aren't shown properly on their systems and they don't bother looking into anything else from other visits. The computer systems are terrible and do not convey the information you need as a patient to the healthcare providers properly.

I was treated today at Silver Cross Hospital and I have to say it was such a pleasant experience. This hospital staff was so accommodating to me as well as my husband throughout my procedure. Everyone was so nice and thoughtful yet very professional during my procedure. I’m so glad that I chose this hospital. This is not the first time I’ve been a patient at this hospital and I always feel the same way. Great staff and a good place if you have to be in the hospital.

Response from the owner
Thank you for taking the time to leave us this review, Joanne! We always appreciate hearing from our patients, and it's always great to hear when they've had a 5-star experience. Stay well, and thank you for choosing Silver Cross Hospital!
