About Interaction Youth Services and Restorative Justice

Interaction Youth Services and Restorative Justice in Brattleboro, Vermont, offers youth programs, behavioral health, and restorative justice for the community. They are a private nonprofit organization who relies on volunteers and donations. The organization was founded in 1972 as a way to rehabilitate youth who are headed for a life of crime and criminal charges.
The center can only bill Vermont Medicaid but can provide documentation for you to request reimbursement through your insurance provider. Sliding fee scales and payment arrangements are available for those needing assistance with payments. Clients are not turned away due to their inability to pay.

Behavioral Health Counseling for Substance Use Disorders

Their Behavioral Health Department offers counseling for youth and adults ages 12 and up. Assessments are provided for the individual’s personal treatment plan as well as for the Department of Children and Families and or probation and parole. Assessments examine a client’s mental health, substance use and anger issues.

Substance use services consist of consultation, assessment and counseling. Individuals, couples, and families can receive counseling as addiction affects everyone around the addict.

Services attempt to decrease hazardous substance use, promote recovery, mend relationships, and establish coping skills. They also use harm reduction strategies along the way.

Programs to Rehabilitate Individuals with Criminal Offenses

Restorative Justice Programs are offered in conjunction with the Brattleboro Community Justice Center. Programs aim to promote accountability and change, helping the person recognize the impacts of their actions and modify their behavior in the future.

The Youth Substance Awareness Safety Program is an alternative to juvenile detention for underage people using alcohol, cannabis or buprenorphine who are ages 16 to 21. Youth court diversion is for clients referred by the Office of the State’s Attorney and allows expungement of a charge after completion of the program.

They also have voluntary or court ordered pretrial services here for adults who have been charged with offenses due to mental health or substance use issues. The client receives coordinator support through the pretrial process. This includes Tamarack, a court diversion program that refers clients who have been charged due to mental health or substance use to residential or outpatient treatment.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).
outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

A person with substance dependence can achieve recovery through drug rehab in Vermont. Professional staff provide a combination of interventions that are designed to help you attain and maintain abstinence from drugs.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

The housing program of youth services is supposed to be income base and none of the workers have been working with me properly… i have expressed an issue regarding conflict of interest and i am still being made to work with that person - and since expressing my concerns i have been on the back burner. They are withholding information that they have that can help me get my income adjusted so i can afford my rent. These people are uncoordinated, and just simply UNORGANIZED! I require adjustments to my rent due to income fluctuations - and i am being deprived of my rights to that as a client.
