Heywood Hospital in my opinion is a Gem. Unlike other hospitals, Heywood is perfectly located away from chaotic traffic and congested busy streets. Including one-way streets as is the case in Boston or Worcester. In addition, Heywood provides plenty of free parking with cover for it's patients. The hospital is very clean, updated, and well maintained inside and out. The restrooms appear to be cleaned on a regular. The staff here have always been polite, professional, courteous and willing to help. Today I had an Xray scheduled and while at the patient registration I met Alice H. Alice has been working here for fifty-five years and was so friendly, kind, and helpful. Instead of given me verbal directions to the Xray department (It's been a while since my last visit) Alice H got up from her desk and accompanied me to the Xray area. Great lady I wish all staff were as kind and helpful as Alice H. I would also like to note the gentleman who preformed my Xray was equally as nice. 30 seconds to a minute and the entire process was complete. Now, that was a 2-hour round-trip commute every morning, but Information about Spectrum (20 minutes away) was hidden from me (despite my inquiries) for months because it was a separate organization and they likely didn't want to lose me as a paycheck -- I mean patient. Spectrum is the total opposite. It has changed my life. I wasted years fearing a program, and the stigma attached. But I realized-- since I was already dealing with the stigma of having fibromyalgia and chronic pain, it made no difference, and I needed to try -- for me. I was at the Betty Ford before this, and it was absolute garbage in comparison, both in quality of care and quality of the property. Every single staff member at fernside absolutely cares about patients and the staff outnumber and patients - which is extremely rare. Betty Ford was something like four patients per staff member. Here there’s typically 3MD’s, 3-4 nurses, multiple therapists, and an amazing private chef. At fernside you have industry leading experts with resources directly from Harvard meeting as a team to diagnose, underlying health conditions, and treat various addictions. You meet with them all individually multiple times per week and they speak with each other to discuss mental health, medications, etc. It’s like the show house. They have the time to do so because there are typically 4-6 patients and a maximum of 9. If you want a full breakdown and evaluation with individualized care, this is the place for you. The company (CHC) does take my insurance and I was unsure why they would not allow me to see a specific dr in the same clinic but allowed other ones. Doug the call reprisentative, agreed and confirmed the company does take that insurance he took it to the manager of community health connections and got things handled for me, CHC delt with the insurance company directly. New Director. My psychiatrist got an assistant, Nicole and she is amazing. Anytime I need anything she is on top of it. I'm with the same therapist and our relationship is getting more and more trusting. I encourage people to try this place out. Their partial hospitalization program is great for adults and adolescents. They are separate. Update, it's now 2023 and theres a new director for a couple of years now.I have to be honest and say this place has gone downhill. They barely offer groups and most of them are on Zoom which in my opinion is so impersonal. I switched my pharmacy for the first time in over 10 years and they haven't updated my chart so my psychiatrist sent my meds to the wrong pharmacy. This might not sound like a big deal but I use medminder a mailing service and all my meds come prepackaged by dose so having to pick up certain meds in a bottle and put them in each little container for a month or two defeats the purpose of having them prepackaged for me. If you're just looking for a therapist and not groups or a psychiatrist then you will probably be okay here but it you're like me and need more help than that you will be at a loss. My therapist is great so I won't leave but I thought they have declined enough update my review. I didn’t have a good time and do not remember much of the experience though the shock and awe campaign and culture they have and create for their clients can leave you ( later on down the road ) in a better place than you might have otherwise been. I cannot help, however, recalling Ivan Illich’s words, “That the true nature of medicine is diabolical in that it makes entire populations survive on inhumanely low levels of health.” Frankly, though, you could find the same in any ward for the seriously ill, as having severe symptoms requires treatment and sometimes ( I am sure ) it is hard to know what to do. Everybody was polite, and they're very, very well progressive for a recovery hospital. To help people and they're helping my friend a lot, to communicate with me better.
