About Recovery Centers of America at Westminster

Recovery Centers of America at Westminster is an addiction treatment facility in Westminster, Massachusetts. The programs they offer are residential inpatient, outpatient addiction treatment, and medication for addiction treatment. Individuals can also participate in the alumni association which provides recovery meetings and activities.

They offer clients evidence-based and holistic treatment. Each client will get a personalized treatment plan that fits their goals and needs. The facility is staffed with healthcare professionals who have decades of experience in mental health services and addiction treatment. RCA at Westminster aims to create a space for clients that’s peaceful and serene to support their healing.

When clients are first admitted to the inpatient program, they’ll undergo an assessment. Clinicians will perform a medical and biopsychosocial evaluation to develop an appropriate treatment plan. The treatments offered to patients include medically monitored detox, self help, 12-step involvement and individual and group therapy sessions.

The medications that may be used for medically monitored detox are methadone, Vivitrol, Sublocade and buprenorphine. The two levels of outpatient therapy that are available for clients are the intensive outpatient program (IOP) and the partial hospitalization program (PHP).

These programs feature the same treatments as the inpatient program while allowing clients to continue going to school or work and continue taking care of their responsibilities at home. Patients will meet at the facility multiple times a week, either in the daytime or the evening.

Family support services are available to improve the relationship between clients and families. I like that RCA at Westminster also offers telehealth therapy as an option. Patients can meet with their counselor through a HIPAA-secure telehealth platform.

Hey Everyone at RCA Westminster!Rikku here, your favorite fluffy, Siberian Husky therapy dog, checking in with my human mom! We've been having a blast visiting you every Tuesday for about a year now, and we absolutely love being a part of the RCA Westminster family. It's our special way of giving back, and it brings us so much joy!You guys always make us feel so incredibly welcome! The staff are the best seriously, sometimes I think they sneak in even more cuddles than the patients (and I'm totally okay with that!). My mom loves to get me dressed up in a different bandana or outfit each week, so keep an eye out for my stylish looks! Seriously, she has something for every occasion! Our Tuesday routine involves visiting each of the three groups Wachusett, Monadnock, and Rescue for around 20-30 minutes each. I love showing off my tricks and all the cool things I've learned. It's also great hearing about your own furry friends and just getting to snuggle, especially when someone's having a tough time.My mom's face lights up whenever a patient or staff member says they've been waiting all day for our visit! We really put our hearts into making each Tuesday a special and uplifting experience for everyone.A Note from Rikku's Mom:Being part of the RCA Westminster community has been such an eye-opening and heartwarming experience. We adore our Tuesday visits, and the staff there make it so easy and enjoyable!Their genuine affection for Rikku is wonderful to see, and they always look forward to his visits and his ever-changing wardrobe.Rikku has totally got the RCA routine down. The moment we pull into the parking lot, he's ready to go, tail wagging, knowing he's about to get lots of love (and maybe a few treats, ok ok a LOT of treats!). He's even starting to pick up on when someone needs a little extra attention and will stay by their side a bit longer he's such a smart boy! We've attached some photos from our visits around RCA. You'll see Rikku with the 12 Steps, the RCA Westminster sign, the Serenity Prayer, a fun Thanksgiving picture from the great room, and one of Rikku and mom (with him in a therapist's chair and me in a patient's).Thank you all so much for having us! We're already looking forward to many more Tuesdays filled with smiles and furry cuddles!Warmly,Rikku and Dorothea(Just a reminder that in every photo, Rikku is safely on his leash, under my control, away from patients and staff, and wearing his official therapy dog tags.)

I recently went with a friend, who is an alumni of RCA, to a meeting. My friend is sober over a year and is still involved in going to RCA. They can t say enough about the place, all positive for them. To see the change in my friend and my experiences as a visitor, I feel the same as they do. They have great staff and there s a good energy in the place. I m looking forward to going back with my friend and passing it on.

Location

Accepted Insurance

Recovery Centers of America at Westminster works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab offers robust, hands-on care in a highly structured and supportive environment. The facility provides housing, meals, and round-the-clock supervision, allowing clients to focus exclusively on their recovery. Inpatient treatment typically involves intensive addiction counseling based on CBT, DBT, RBT, motivational interviewing, or other psychotherapeutic approaches. Many inpatient treatment centers also offer life skills training and/or complementary therapies, including meditation, mindfulness, and nutrition counseling.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
A sober living home offers a supportive environment where individuals in recovery provide mutual support as they share household responsibilities. Residents participate in 12-step programs and offer accountability for sobriety. To remain in men's or women's sober living, individuals must remain drug and alcohol-free, contribute to chores, attend support group meetings, and help cover expenses to live in the home.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP), also known as day treatment, allows you to receive rehab-level care while living at home. PHP treatment requires a minimum of 20 hours of treatment each week for an average of 90 days. PHP treatment plans can vary depending on your needs but typically includes relapse prevention, medication management, and evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Most insurance providers fully or partially cover PHP treatment.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

If you are experiencing intense, negative emotions, dialectical behavior therapy can help you learn how to regulate painful emotions and manage the interpersonal situations that generate them. This method is often used during substance use treatment in Massachusetts to help you develop better coping skills and avoid relapse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. At Westminster, their Family Program offers the education, skills, and support needed for family members to join the journey of recovery. Addiction impacts not just the sufferer, but the family as well – and they’re there to help.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Horrifying, That's the only way I can describe it. They make you wait hours for your medication then if you need help on between the nurses don't want to help you. It's disgusting how they treat people. And they do not give you a ride home. If you're not giving them your insurance money , then you're on your own. I went from there directly to the hospital, Found out I had a heart condition, Then I went back and nothing was what they said. They did send a ride to the hospital , but once I got back to the facility they told me if I wasn't staying , then I would have to find my own ride home. This is after being there for fourteen days, 7 days past what I originally signed up for. Plus the nurses made me wait three hours to go to the hospital. It wasn't until I started having seizures that they actually call the ambulance. It was a completely horrifying experience. The facility is nice but the care is not.

I am writing a review because i am upset at the fact that i have been reaching out to RCA in Westminister, Ma. For at least 6 months more then a few times and i was told each time that i have a red flag that they would need to speak with someone and call Me back. Mind You that the people answering the phones to help assist You on getting in, are very sweet. However each time they have gotten back to Me saying sorry but You are not able to come to RCA for Addiction Treatment and i emphasize" TREATMENT". A place where they are their to help the Sick. They do not give Me no explanation to Why i am not able to return to their Facility nor A time when i would be welcomed back ever....I am very upset and Confused to Why they will not except a sick person however many times it takes. I am sure they have had the same people time after time return to their facility whether from a relapse or Just a frequent flyer. Addiction Treatment centers are put in place for however many times it takes.I am almost 49 and havent been to a treatment center in over 16 years since my last one. Until RCA But i knew i needed to go and I knew it was time but i also am Realistic and know its gonna take Me a few trys again because it goes deeper then the addiction. And i am scared i am not in my early 20's like i was the 1st time around i dont like feeling scared or worried i dont like to feel at all. I can go on and on but the issue at hand now is i dont like a lot of stuff i have a hard time with shit and i am only willing to go to RCA because i have been there and i am at least a little familiar at what to expect. And thats why i am and have been waiting only to go there. I am set in my ways but its really easy request. Because of PDST and past abuse i feel more comfortable in my own space and the rm i was in the last time was perfect it had a wall between myself and roomate and i also think they have single rooms. Which is best for someone in my position where i have the Abuse as well as some handicap issue its easier being in my own space. I have NEVER BEEN KICKED OUT OF ANY WHERE EVER I JUST LEAVE WHEN I KNOW I AM UNABLE TO CONTINUE BECAUSE OF LACK OF SOMETHING. I FEEL AS THOUGH IF I HAD NOT BEEN rejected these past 6 months i may have been already back on track and not still sick and missing My Childrens lifes and not knowing whether i want to live anymore. I may have already had another home and Job by now but all i can do is stay positive that one day when i call Yous will say come in. I still dont understand why i have been red flad because i stated my opinion on the lack of Counseling help and after placement and how slow their Pharmacy is. I thought expressing my opinion would be a help to better the issues at hand not a 1 way ticket to never be able to return...Who makes that finally decision about someones life? How and who can fix this? I never done anything there or anywhere that should be growns for A red flag or a never come back again terms so its confusing never got into a fight or smoked in doors or used drugs or alcohol at a facility?????So i don't understand. I think asking to leave or stating your opinion about what could better the place shouldnt be grounds for permanent termination a place where its a Addiction treatment facility and the doors are suppose to be open even when a person comes and goes. To be there when they are ready again and again until hopefully they are able to get it. I Have only been 3x between the 2 RCAs i perfer Westminister, Ma. My 1st time at RCA was at the end of August 2024 before that i had not been to a Detox in 16yrs. I knew it was time but realistic i also knew i wasnt gonna get it the 1st time either it goes way deeper then just the addiction i also know how much time addiction and other stuff has taken from Myself, My Children n those i still want to care about.I am asking some1 who has more control over A Red Flag)Please reach out to Me a person who still has hope and very much wants it. I am not perfect! Sincerely n Respectively Ms. Dawn Marie J. K dawnmariekeech@gmail.com

The caring staff of professionals from the RSS’s, Clinical Director, to the counselors and therapists act in concert with the most comprehensive recovery methods which any one suffering from substance addiction can take advantage of. Their empathy, humility and diligence to healthy processes manifested a major shift in my awareness to the importance of my life and to those I affected. The subsequent IOP and PHP care with Brandon and Abbey educated me about the significance of my feelings, where they were rooted and how to reconcile them for a healthy lifestyle and meaningful relationships. Given my care at RCA and their programs of after care, I have turned a corner in my journey where I now have the confidence and ability to live my best life ever!

The time I spent at RCA was instrumental in my journey of recovery. I’ll have 2 years in a couple months and it all started at this facility. The staff was amazing, they were always accommodating to whatever requests I had. I have to single out Rob Burke, despite putting out fires that would pop up in units throughout the facility he never forgot to follow through on any thing I asked for or needed. The nursing staff was excellent also. Overall it was a great experience.

Excellent facility from top to bottom. The staff are all extremely attentive and patient. RCA gave me the tools and confidence that I needed to get back on track and recover. The real work starts when you get back into the real world, however, the staff put me in the right mindset to reach my ultimate goal of sustained sobriety. I am forever grateful.

One of few Facilities that have a program for first responders and Veterans that offer a structured path to recovery. There are also former First Responders and Veterans on staff with groups patients can better identity with. Amazing case worked and an alumni association that will help keep you connected in your aftercare long after you leave.
