This season has been hard with illness, and all of the doctors are booked for days. My 5yo is non-verbal autistic, and we can't wait in a waiting room, hoping to be squeezed in. I called Hamilton Medical Clinic and spoke to Kim. She was so kind and helpful. Instead of pushing us off, she made a few calls and got us set up with a telehealth visit. Such great service. Obviously they were slammed with in-person and telehealth calls. When I met with the Nurse Practitioner, Caring, she was very kind and informative. She wasn't trying to speed through the call and listened to my concerns and gave advice needed. Great experience all-around (as great as one can be for a sick kiddo anyways) ☺️

Valley Hope of Atchison provides a semi private residential recovery environment in a relaxed and rural setting near the Missouri River. They’re located in Atchison, Kansas, just 35 miles north of the Kansas City airport off I-435 and minutes from the Amelia Earhart Museum. They serve adults over 18 including veterans and active service members.
Atchison Valley Hope saved my life. I had tried living a life in recovery before, but it never worked out for me. When I hit a point to no return I reached out for help to Valley Hope in Atchison. From the moment I walked through the door, I was welcomed with such warm, loving compassion. The feeling of comfort and safety put me at ease and I knew from the very start something was going to be different. The staff is amazing. From the director all the way to the kitchen staff. I have never been treated with more love and respect in my life. I spent nearly 2 whole months as a patient and the tools I learned at Valley Hope with my willingness of participation, helped mold me to the human being I am today. That place is magical. It wasn't easy, but with the patience of my counselor, my Chaplin, my case manager, and all of the staff, I have been living the life of my dreams. Clean and sober. So from the deepest part of my heart of hearts Thank you Atchison Valley Hope ❤️ I love you all

I’m struggling to understand why this facility would get anything less than 5 stars. Valley Hope has truly changed my life. I called on a Wednesday morning and was in a bed by Friday. This is more than a facility or institution. It’s a home full of love and care. The staff are much more than “staff” even down to the cooks. They truly do care. They go above and beyond to listen, recognize and love. I HIGHLY recommend V.H. To anyone who’s truly wanting to live a life of sobriety. The structure, dynamics, medical care, post care recommendations and even down to the food is amazing. If I could give more stars, I would. Thank you so much Valley Hope for changing my life around. I’ll never forget what y’all have done for me.

I am a Marine Corps veteran and have had a wife gamut of health care treatment on the civilian side since leaving active duty in 1993. I took my healthcare treatment to the Kansas City VA Medical Center in 2023 because the exposure to particulates in Saudia Arabia, no thanks to Saddam, was taking a firm hold on my body. The care that I have received at the KCVA is remarkable. I've been treated as an income in other places. Here, I am one who needs care as a whole person. And that is what I have experienced. I have also met other brothers and sisters from other uniformed services and, together, we share stories of our time in service and experiences at that facility. The personnel care for the veterans they serve. I have spoken to many patients who are more than a little concerned about how things are going with the current climate in the nation. They don't want to lose this facility nor the people who make it work very well. I agree with them and have called my senators and congresswoman. Please help us keep this veterans medical center open and functional.

The VA is truly a special place. Endless money will continue be poured into DOD, but at the end of your tour, when you are discharged back into the civilian world, the VA is a place where true camaraderie and fellowship lives. I've witnessed elderly Veterans pushing other Veterans into the hospital by wheelchair. I've witnessed friendships bloom and war stories exchanged in the waiting rooms. More than likely, privatized civilian hospital staff wouldn't truly understand a patient who has struggled with severe PTSD from combat, or a veteran who has Parkinson's or severe neuropathy due to toxic exposures. Did you know, military Veterans are nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed with ALS than non military? More than likely, in a privatized civilian hospital your just another body in the door. They don't understand the plight of the military Veteran. The VA is different. A good amount of VA staff are Veterans and they choose to work for the VA to continue the mission. To serve those who have served. If our Nation's leaders will step up and fund the VA to care for those who signed a blank check (the same way they fund DOD), the VA could easily be the top in the nation. Sure, there are bad apples here and there, but the majority of VA staff feel strongly and passionately about it's patient population. I've been receiving care at the VA for nearly a decade. As a female Veteran, the VA has come a long way for women's care and if they don't have the provider to accommodate your medical need, the VA will send you out to get the care you need. I've seen many specialists at the KCVA and have overall received EXCELLENT care. This will be a challenge if the VA doesn't hire more healthcare workers who are essential to be operational. Please continue to support the VA and it's mission. Veterans need and deserve this network!

Finding a place that saw all of me meant everything. The staff respected my pronouns, and therapy felt safe and real. Art groups helped me speak without words. The food was just ok, but the care? I've been a client here since 2011, and I'm so grateful. It's a life saver, but like all recovery clinics you can only get out of it what you put into it. This amazing caring staff IS the difference at heartland. This is an underrated community resource in independence and Jackson county. It's not the abundance of resources, or judgements free environment of learning the art of new patterns and behaviors as tools to combat a variety of epidemics that affect every family. It is the HUMAN compassion, patience, counseling and tools for accountability. This place is a lifeline for those who have and have not other options or resources. Walk in and ask for help. I have worked with this organization and have several contacts enroll and receive services here. They are one of the best around if you are struggling with alcohol or substance use disorder. Very compassionate and genuinely want to help those that are wanting and needing to make positive changes in their lives. BECKY PELLEHAM IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST. MAKE SURE YOU ASK TO MEET HER WHEN YOU ARE ON SITE. SHE IS EXTREMELY RESOURCEFUL, AND IF SHE SEES THAT YOU ARE TAKING YOUR RECOVERY SERIOUS AND TRYING TO BETTER YOUR LIFE THEN THE SKYS THE LIMIT AS FAR AS WHAT SHE CAN DO FOR YOU. I wouldn't mislead or try to benefit from someone seeking recovery as so many people and places do. This is the best place around especially if you dont have private health insurance.

I believe this whole place has well-balanced intentions. yes, some staff may have their differences, we are all human, but everything they do is entirely surrounding the intention of your benefit.
