My experience with this particular facility has been nothing but a positive situation for me. The staff, all the way from the Director down to the office girls have been almost like a family to me. The compassion that I have been shown means so much to me & out of all the programs I have encountered, this one is by far the BEST. My councilor has also been a positive force in my life & really gone to bat for me. But most of all, although everyone remains very professional, they are all very caring & treat me with respect. I'm very grateful for this place & I just would like to say "THANK YOU". Sincerely, Jeff Butterfield

Located in the southwestern corner of Utah, in the small town of Virgin, is the Liahona Treatment Center. The residential treatment prog
When I sent my Godson to Liahona Academy, it was the hardest decision that I ever made. He has recently graduated, and I now know that it was also the best decision that I ever made. He struggled in the beginning, but once he finally understood that I only wanted him to become a better person, he started making changes. He is now ahead in school, has great grades, and an excellent relationship with anyone that he wants to have a relationship with. I can guarantee that if you sent your son here and you give him time to figure it out, he eventually will, and you will never regret your decision. My Godson came out of Liahona academy as a completely transformed man. He was a child with all kinds of manipulative “techniques”. Now he is a reborn man, a man who is honest and sincere, a man who you can count on to be a positive leader and have a great attitude. I am grateful for all the staff at Liahona academy, and especially for his therapist Benjamin Haslam, the program director, Richard May, and the case manager, Beverly Carayas. THANK YOU 🙏🏻

I was sent to Liahona Academy on September 20, 2019. I graduated on May 7, 2021. This placed changed my life. If I was not sent here, I would be either dead, homeless, or in jail. I was skipping school nearly every day and my grades were terrible. My relationship with my parents was terrible. I was smoking weed almost every day. I dreaded every aspect of my life. Now, I am a year ahead of my regular grade, with a GPA of 3.78. My relationship with my parents is fantastic. I don’t ever want to go back to my old life. I love this new life. I recommend that any parent who is struggling with their teen to send them here. It will be a very hard decision, but I can 100% guarantee that it will be worth it. Haris Husetic

Liahona was our last hope and nothing short of a miracle for saving my son’s life. The Liahona approach allows customized care based on timing of each boy’s willingness to embrace the opportunity for real, lasting change. The Owner Clay along with Rich, Bear and Beverly were wonderful to work with! The Liahona Virgin campus team have built an amazing program with a successful track record and long-term results at treating the whole person, not just the symptoms of bad behavior/substance abuse, but dares to dig deeper uncovering root causes of the problems. My son was a complex case as he exhibited erratic and dangerous behavior along with lingering effects of substance abuse which could have ended his life on multiple occasions prior to admittance. The highly-structured environment with set “wake” and “lights-out” times, allows the boys to get into a healthy, balanced and predictable schedule resulting in a solid foundation to become the best versions of themselves and make the most of the program. The well-regulated agenda culminates dependable sleep patterns, individual and group therapy, chores, healthy and consistent meals, with time built-in for exercise, school, homework, faith (of any kind or none at all), personal growth, journaling and reading. Based on progress, working the program and meeting milestones, the boys can earn group outings that may include volunteering a chance to give back to the community, or a fun outing like bowling, hiking or trip to the lake, etc. The staff at the Virgin facility were simply amazing! I can’t thank Rich (Program Director) and Bear (our son’s Therapist) enough for their vision and “lead by example” approach to earn credibility, respect and have such a positive power of influence over the most challenging of behaviors. Bear was very honest that our son was one of the more complex cases he had seen and that he wasn’t sure if Liahona would be the “best fit” for him. Bear was absolutely remarkable in treating my son, from day 1, as a fully 100% capable individual and he saw through the façade of substance psychosis, anger, low self-esteem, manipulative and self-centered behavior. The value of the Liahona program incorporates a loving and supportive environment, patiently allowing each boy to come to their own realization and choose to begin the journey-cycle of initiating progress, resulting in gaining confidence, motivating them to work harder, embracing the courage to face adversity and proving to themselves they are capable of setting goals and exceeding expectations. The Liahona program results in building confidence, fueling motivation for more continued growth and is the recipe for achieving not only success in Liahona but prepares each boy for a successful life outside of Liahona in the real world. My son entered Liahona as a troubled boy and graduated the program as a confident young man, eager to work hard, face adversity, exceed every goal placed in front of him, fully equipped with the knowledge and desire to help others along the way. We couldn’t be more proud and are forever grateful to the incredible staff and program at Liahona for doing God’s work here on earth!

Best decision I ever made. Being out in nature and having to overcome fears that you wouldnt experience in a normal rehab setting taught me a ton and gave me a different perspective on life & recovery. I went to 2 different places for treatment before Legacy and the people that work at Legacy care so much more. It was the hardest thing I’ve had to do, it definitely wasn’t easy. I wanted to leave everyday for a month but sticking through it benefited me so much and I grew to love all the badass stuff you get to do there. I have the most sobriety now since trying to get sober, most likely wouldn’t be the case if I didn’t go there

Choosing to enroll in a program like this is a significant financial and emotional commitment, and I hope my experience can help guide others facing the same decision. I waited to write this review until several months after our son John completed his time at Legacy, since the real measure of a treatment center is how a child fares after discharge. There aren’t enough stars to rate Legacy, nor enough words to express how profoundly their treatment benefited John. Before Legacy, John was struggling—depressed, anxious, and lacking direction after high school graduation. He was caught up in computer and phone addiction, using marijuana, and eventually experiencing suicidal thoughts. Despite years in traditional therapy with caring counselors, nothing seemed to help. With the help of a consulting firm, we discovered Legacy. At 18, John had to make the decision himself. Initially, he resisted and was upset by the idea, convinced he could recover at home. Chris in admissions and Derek supported us, helping us communicate with John. During a particularly difficult period, we persuaded him to try Legacy. The wilderness portion was tough for him as he doesn't enjoy being outdoors, but the staff’s kindness convinced him to stay for the full three months. We visited John during the family weekend workshop two thirds of the way through his treatment, and saw remarkable progress—he was more patient, optimistic, and confident, discovering joy in small things and learning he could overcome fears. The staff was compassionate and informative, and the group activities, (run by Mike, Troy and Justin), went much deeper than traditional therapy. Brody’s caring attitude, along with his dog Nemo, made a lasting impact, and Amber, John’s counselor, worked tirelessly to equip us all with the tools for John’s lasting success. John returned home just before Thanksgiving. While we still take things one day at a time, we are amazed at his transformation. He’s regained his spark—earning praise at his new job, attending school with perfect attendance, working out daily, and independently managing his appointments. We’re beyond grateful to see his joyful self again. I hope our story offers encouragement to anyone considering Legacy for their loved one.

I felt extremely comfortable working under Mike Hinkle, Kyle, Bek, and Jake as directors. Jake was wicked smart and poetic, challenged people, Beks a fantastic listnener and lax human who I wish I got to work with more. Kyle is very in touch with reality and intelligent, great with boundaries. Mike Hinkle is one of the best humans at connection and compassion I’ve witnessed. Brody is a great guide too, especially at building relationships, true role model human. Ted as well, that guy has a ton of experience and really enjoyed my week with him and Bek. I had some very difficult challenges before I made the tough decision to leave back to Arizona and felt loved and supported by all of them. I’ll certainly miss interacting with these stand out people.

This clinic is the best in town by LEAPS. My husband and I sadly had to move back to Washington state but we were wiring with Loren the director to do our intake and she was just incredibly helpful and so kind. Methadone still gets a bad rap (even though it shouldn’t) she made us feel genuinely supported and not just like a number in line (the other in town clinic does unfortunately so don’t waste your time even trying) if we move back to Utah we will be BACK! Thank you Loren for all of your time and help and kindness! You are spectacular and so is your team and clinic!!!!! (Side note, the prices are MUCH better even if you are self pay) I do wish they have sub shot but either way it’s worth staying because the quality of care I could tell is super!!!

Forte Strong is a residential treatment program for young men in St. George, Utah. They provide residential mental health treatment and coaching for young adult men aged 18 through 30. Specifically, this program is for men struggling with failure to launch syndrome, avoidant personality, social anxiety disorder, and adjustment disorder. They do not
When our son arrived at Forte Strong, our family was exhausted, overwhelmed, and honestly out of answers. What started as a slow decline over several years had eventually spiraled into depression, anxiety, substance abuse challenges, hospitalizations, and interactions with law enforcement. We had reached the limits of what we could do on our own and knew we needed help. What we didn’t fully understand at the time was that Forte Strong would not only help our son—it would help our entire family. Our son is incredibly bright and capable, but he also struggles with autism and ADHD, diagnoses he did not receive until adulthood. Looking back, so many things made sense through that lens, but by the time he arrived at Forte, our family dynamic had become unhealthy in ways we didn’t fully recognize. Forte Strong helped us see that with honesty, compassion, and zero judgment. One of the greatest gifts Forte gave us was helping us understand that growth requires discomfort, struggle, accountability, and independence—not constant rescuing. They taught us how to separate what feels urgent from what actually is urgent, how to hold boundaries, and how to support our son without unintentionally reinforcing unhealthy patterns. The staff at Forte Strong are exceptional. They deeply understand young adult men and the challenges they face, and time and time again they were able to predict situations and behaviors with remarkable accuracy. As frustrating as that occasionally was in the moment, it was also incredibly reassuring because it meant our son was in the hands of people who truly knew what they were doing. The weekly parent webinars and family support were equally life-changing for us. They provided practical guidance, emotional support, and a community of parents who understood this experience in a way few others can. Those calls became one of the most meaningful parts of our week. Most importantly, Forte Strong helped give our son his life back. His progress has not been linear—there have been setbacks along the way—but he is in a far healthier and more hopeful place than he was before arriving there. He has built friendships, coping strategies, confidence, and independence in ways we honestly once thought might not be possible. Forte Strong is not a “quick fix,” because there is no quick fix. What they provide is something far more valuable: structure, accountability, support, expertise, and the opportunity for real growth—for both the young men there and their families. We will always be deeply grateful for the role Forte Strong has played in our son’s life and in ours.

What a great program!!! teaches you how to become independent step by step!!! Each step you take builds a great ladder of success as an adult. From budgeting, to managing a vehicle, to finding the perfect job. Are there gonna be some bumps and complications along the way, definitely, but with the support of the staff coaches and your housemates, you can get through it fast. I’ve learned that there are a lot of of great benefits and opportunities that arrive from here. A great example is that I’ve been working at two jobs I enjoy, plus I met my wife during the program. We have been married one year this year!! I hope many of the new faces at forte get to discover this same bonding and companionship that I had.

I recently left Forte Strong and am currently residing in St. George. I have a great job now and a chance to move up in my company by going to graduate school. Forte Strong was very tough in the beginning and to be completely honest, I actually hated it. I felt like everyone was against me, including the director. I thought they were just trying to make me jump through meaningless hoops. I was tired, depressed, anxious, and had very little self confidence. In a fit of frustration, I vented to one of my housemates the director wasn’t helping and was actually making it worse. The guy said the director’s methods will all make sense in the end. Obviously, at the time, I blew that off as utter nonsense. A month or so later, I was having a lot of anxiety and the director supported me in my time of need in a way that was quite unfamiliar to me at the time. I was shocked. He did care and not only that, he believed in my strength and resilience. My opinions of him changed almost immediately. He became my biggest mentor in the program. I went to him for problems I may have had, how I could have handled this situation differently, how I could have a better relationship with my parents, etc. He was there for me and I was ready to listen. In a matter of 5 and half months, my relationship with one of my parents changed drastically, a feat I thought was near impossible and hopeless when I entered the program. My resilience increased, my self confidence increased because I was doing well at work, and I had more trust in my abilities. Everything was changing for the better. I was going to be fine. I also made countless friends along the way, people that I will still keep in contact with for a while. I have also dealt with challenging people in the program, people who I really didn’t care for and who didn’t really align with my values. The program director mentored me through dealing with difficult people. It was an uphill battle, but it is all about learning. Now, I’m not going to say that this program is for everyone. It definitely is not. There is a stark contrast between the people who actually want to be there and to work on themselves and the people who feel forced by their parents. I was fortunately the former. And as I sit in my new apartment in St. George on a bright Saturday morning, I want to say thank you Brook for all you have done for me.

I know this place has had its ups and downs in the past, and probably still isn't perfect across the board, BUT, I want to share my personal experience. Almost 4 years ago I went to them seeking help for a couple of mental conditions that were scaring me. One was what I called "zoning out" while still awake, and interacting with people/things I realized weren't really there...and even upon realizing they weren't real, I could/would continue interacting/wasting time with it. The other condition was that upon getting to the point of falling asleep, my mind/brain would experience an extremely LOUD explosion that would Jolt me so dangerously, I feared I was having a heart attack. So shocking and scary were these episodes, I was staying awake for days at a time out of terror they'd happen again. (and no, not like the common 'jerking awake' we all have had--like falling off the bed, this was like a massive bomb going off just outside the house, sloshing my brains inside my skull. They started me with a very nice older gentleman counselor. He was a great listener and took copious notes about my experiences and condition. He realized soon that my ailments were a bit out of his league, so he started looking to transfer me to someone else. BUT, he didn't just throw a dart at the names of other counselors, he really asked around and checked out their CVs and kept asking me questions until TOGETHER we found someone we thought was a better fit. Her name was Amanda Mendenhall. Obviously, when I started with her I was a complete MESS. My issues had gotten worse. The medications I was on from my family doctor were...extreme, in my opinion--hundreds of mgs of Trazadone a day, hundreds of mgs of Quetiapine a day, lots of tranquilizers and a couple anti-psychotics. Anyway, Amanda took interest in my case. She began pulling research and doing her own investigations, while at the same time looking to supplement me with a MEDICAL PSYCHIATRIST. Amanda taught me tools...a bit oddball at beginning, but very effective in helping me. And no, NOT counting to 10 doing finger touching!! These tools involved temperature, water, electrical stimulus, etc. They helped STOP a panic attack within seconds, with no drugs! Sure, she taught me techniques of Mind over Mind, but that was only a tenth of the treatment. She quickly found me a medical psychiatrist who tested my genetics to find the correct drug treatment without guessing! Between the 2 of them, my improvement happened quickly. Oh, and that "BOMB" thing? Amanda discovered what it was called: Exploding Head Syndrome. And they found a medicine to stop it 85% of the time--to be able to lay down without absolute TERROR is a really blessed thing. So, my advice to you is this: Ask to talk to an administrator there. Have you list of problems written down and ready to show. Then ASK: Which counselor is best suited to helping me? You may include treatments you do NOT want because they didn't help you in the past. If you are not PRECISE with disclosing your problems and PRECISE with what treatments you don't like....well, you will not be likely to find the help you want and need. Don't rely on luck. And don't expect every counselor to be BRILLIANT with every mental health issue! But, IF you explain properly what's going on with your, AND what types of therapy you're looking for (meds, counsel, quick techniques, etc.), you stand a better chance of getting someone who can help you improve! Best Wishes!!

Here, people with addiction histories, cancer survivors, with surgery complications, and many other issues come seeking for solace. Their treatment addresses the root of the problem but also rehabilitate all aspects that need healing through physical therapists, massage therapists, acupuncture, conventional western medical professionals, psychologists, and mind-body practices. I never like anyone doubted of my pain, but rather they taught me new ways of thinking and approaching my challenges to manage my illness and live a happier life.

Impressive! Absolutely the most professional and friendly VA clinic. Dr Tiller and his team Nurse Ron Barron and ICT Jill Flores are amazing human beings. There is not enough I can say about these amazing people. They treated my father with respect, kindness, friendliness and professional. Dr Tiller is a hell of a man and cared and Nurse Barron was caring and you could tell all she wants to do is help veterans. ICT Jill was by far the most professional and powerful ICT we have met. I cannot express my gratitude and appreciation to these people enough. Thank you to them and for the ability to make sure my father gets and retains the medical help he needs.

Both of my children were adopted out of foster care and suffered early childhood trauma. This led to complicated attachment problems. My daughter in particular was at five different Residential programs prior to going to Sorenson Ranch. This program was by far the best program she attended. The Therapist and staff are very compassionate, and understand the complexities of attachment disorders. They provided the structure that my daughter needed to keep her safe and to help her develop skills to self regulate and manage her complicated emotional issues. If you have a trouble teen would recommend you consider Sorenson Ranch School; they have changed our lives.

I have to disagree with some of the latest post. I attended sorensons for a long period of time. Not only did I benefit from the expertise from the many qualified staff. I can tell you first hand that while I was there for 4 years, I did not experience any abuse. Quite the opposite actually, I finally found people who listened to me, people who showed me tough love. I truly believe that was the best thing to happen in my life and Im still in contact with the staff there and it’s been years. Alot of the staff there take a personal intrest in the students. I know I could call Grandma, Jill or Layne if I ever needed anything and they would help. All I can say some of the kids DONT want help.. or to change.. coming from a child whom suffered a lot of physical abuse before getting to the ranch, the consequences they issued like mucking stalls and doing workouts built my character and weren’t abusive, and I’m beyond grateful for this place.

After a hard decision, I sent my son to SRS in 2020, 4 years ago. It changed his life for the better. It took him 2 years, but he did it. Was he 100% different, no, probably 80%, it's a work in progress. Your entire life you will work on your skills with your mental illness and behaviors, but he definitely came home so much better then when he left our family. Life was so much better, and we were able to have a relationship that we haven't had before and the sibling were too. The therapist was fantastic. He even did family therapy with one of the siblings at home that was having the most trouble with my son. He had a genuine interest in the entire family and having them be able to all work together. The entire staff at Sorenson's was wonderful and caring. His case manager would call weekly and update me with what was going on. They made sure he always had doctor and dentist appointments made when needed. If he was ever hurt, they would notify me and take him to the doctors. His favorite things were the campouts and the horses. Yes, you did have to earn them through your levels, which meant you needed to do your work and stay on task with your program. And if you weren't or got in trouble, you lost your points, and you started working on yourself again to earn them back. Things are a privilege and you learn that and you work for them. Yes there we're some people that may have been rougher than they needed to be with the kids but the kids figured out, don't misbehave, Get yourself in gear. My son made great friends while he was there. He even moved back and went to college in the area and was room mates with one of them. He also went back and wanted to work there to help the kids out, but wasn't old enough. Unfortunately almost a year after he graduated he was killed in a car accident. Some of the boys (friends) from the school came to his service, I didn't even know about them, and they shared wonderful stories about their experiences at the school with me. Some of them check in with me online just to see how I'm doing. There's a lot more good things that came out of the school then bad I can say. I highly recommend Sorensons Ranch School.

Words cannot begin to described how positive Embark Hurricane was for our son. The change that I could see and hear in 3 months time was incredible. Daniel was great with admissions and helping us get everything lined up. He made himself available to answer any questions we had. My son's therapist Jared did an amazing job working with him and the director Taylor was very thorough as well. My kid was here for 11 months. They took him when no other place would because he had a history of aggression. It is a very restrictive environment - kids can’t leave campus for the first five months, then they can only leave with a parent for 3 hours. It basically felt like juvee with therapy. He couldn’t bring any personal items with him - not even his own underwear. Which, sadly, was what my kid needed and completely reformed him. He was able to get a new mindset and take ownership for his bad behaviors and make the changes he needed. He was able to finish their program in 11 months, which is unusual- most kids take 12-18 months. He was also able to keep up with his academics, which was amazing since he had lost a lot of time while he was struggling earlier. They have set up the structure so that it’s clear what you need to do to get out, and a kid with the right mindset can do it once they set their mind to it. I am only giving 4 starts because they were very restrictive and didn’t prepare him to COME HOME. Because of their highly restrictive program, even once my kid graduated to their second phase, he had little freedom so we didn’t feel comfortable bringing him home without having him do a step down transition first. It is very old school, but might be what your kid needs if they are really struggling.

Cinnamon Hills Youth Crisis Center truly cares about young people in a way that goes far beyond supervision or “babysitting.” The staff see these kids not as problems to manage, but as individuals with potential, worth, and a future. What sets this program apart is its commitment to long-term success. They don’t just focus on short-term stabilization — they help youth build the skills, confidence, and support systems they need for life. The staff actively encourage and support students in staying on track academically, working toward graduation, and believing that finishing high school is not only possible but expected. The team creates structure, accountability, and genuine connection. They provide guidance, mentorship, and opportunities for growth that many of these youth may not have experienced before. It’s clear they want each young person to leave not just stabilized, but stronger, more hopeful, and better prepared for adulthood. If you are looking for a crisis center that truly invests in youth — their healing, their education, and their future — this is a place that makes a real difference.

If you feel like you’re hitting a brick wall with recovery in this town, stop looking and go see Dr. Brinkerhoff. I was completely hopeless, stuck in a cycle with doctors who had no clue how to handle a complex medication taper. I felt invisible and stuck—until I walked into this office. Dr. Brinkerhoff is on an entirely different level. • He actually listens. (A rarity!) • He knows his stuff. He navigated my transition perfectly when no one else could. • He gets results.
