About Pocono Mountain Recovery Center

Pocono Mountain Recovery Center is a drug and alcohol rehab based in Henryville, Pennsylvania. The rustic, homey facility rests on 10 acres of sprawling countryside, surrounded by trees, lakes and walking trails. They offer residential addiction treatment, detox services, a partial hospitalization program and intensive outpatient services. They also have sober living facilities and an extensive aftercare program to help you transition from full time treatment into normal life. Their services are available to adults who are over the age of 18.

Their recovery process is largely based on the 12 Step principles, but it also makes use of traditional and experiential therapy methods. You’ll receive at least one hour-long individual therapy session each week, where you’ll work through the root causes of addictive behaviors and create goals for your recovery. You’ll also attend group sessions to develop coping skills, receive education on addiction and work on relapse prevention techniques. Pocono Mountain Recovery Center is big on getting your support system involved with your treatment, so they also facilitate family therapy sessions if you’d benefit from them.

During your stay, you can also participate in art therapy, music therapy, mindfulness and meditation sessions, yoga and role playing activities. These experiential methods help to round out your treatment plan so you’re tackling chemical dependency from every angle.

One thing I liked about their program is that they give you a lot of freedom in letting you customize your treatment plan. They have a bunch of elective activities you can choose to get involved with every day. They also set aside free time every day for you to partake in recreational activities or to reflect on everything you learned that day.

I went to treatment here & was treated like my life was worthless. My good friend & I ended up at the same rehab. (Pocono Mountain) She had gotten there before me & I had come in a few days later. We had been using together prior to her going to treatment. Fast forward, I had been there for about 7 days & my friend was getting ready to transfer to a different facility so they transported her home the night before to grab some extra things. She was supposed to come back to the treatment center until the following day when they were going to take her to the airport. Because she had been taken home, when she returned they had drug tested her. She had come up positive for fentanyl. Because her & I were friends & had used together in the past, they also tested me. I also came up positive for fentanyl. I had only been there 7 days. The day I came in I was no where near sober, so that was only 6 days without me putting drugs into my body. I had not touched anything since being in the rehab, I was just still positive from my prior use. They didn’t care. They refused to test my levels, they didn’t offer to take me to another treatment center, nothing. It was already after 11 pm that night & they decided to kick out two young females & drive them to two SEPARATE bus stations in the middle of nowhere where. The buses were not even running at this time. They didn’t even have the decency to drop us off together so we had each other, they purposely separated us in the middle of the night, stranded hours away from home. Now… I am almost 2 years sober today & I still think back to this night & it makes me so upset. I understand addicts lie, but I was telling the truth that night. I had NOT used or brought drugs into that facility. Even if they HAD to kick us out due to protocol, there were other ways to go about it then to leave two young women stranded, alone, in the middle of the night hours away from their homes. Any other rehab would have offered to transfer us to other facilities, but nope. Not Pocono Recovery Center. They treated us like our lives were worthless that night. I will never forget that.

Accepted Insurance

Pocono Mountain Recovery Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients receiving services from a rehab aftercare program are usually stable and in the maintenance phase of recovery, having completed detox and/or intensive inpatient treatment. Rehab aftercare services can vary widely based on clients' individual and evolving needs, but often include peer coaching, relapse prevention support, 12 step program induction, and medical, mental health, and social service referrals. Individual care plans are typically developed by the client in partnership with their case manager and care team.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober living houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle. Pocono Mountain Recovery Center offers gender specific houses with structured environments with a 24/7 staff to supervise residents.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don't require 24-hour care. The PHP at Pocono includes medication management, individual therapy, group therapy, experiential therapy and family counseling.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members. There are a variety of topics that may be covered during group therapy sessions, which can include things like coping skills development, disease education, and relapse prevention.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. Family members are encouraged to participate in their loved one’s therapeutic process at least once during the patient's time in treatment, yet sessions can occur on an ongoing basis, based on each individual’s preference and/or clinical need.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional "talk therapy" by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing. Examples of the types of experiential therapies that we offer include art therapy, music therapy, mindfulness, meditation, role playing, and yoga.

It's been a few years since i stayed but time hasnt eraesed the good memories. The place is very nice with a large cobblestone court yard in the the middle. Theres some small water features as well. I will admit that the rooms could use some updating. The folks there were very kind and respectful and the food was always good, its buffet style if I remember correctly. My counselor was great and the nursing staff was freindly. It's coed and they do the classes together but do not mess arounnd with the girls because they will boot you quickly.

There is a lot of great and caring staff from every department, but not all of them. I'm grateful for the good techs, nurses, and counselors. Before intake, I was told that my dietary restrictions would be accommodated. This was false for the week I spent there. The plumbing didn't work and housekeeping refused to clean rooms at times. Plumbing and heating issues were brushed off when complaints were made and showering and bathroom facilities were mostly out of order. They decided the laundry detergent I bought and packed should be for communal use, but only one washing machine was working at a time anyways. I passed out from malnutrition and left in an ambulance and they didn't notify either of my emergency contacts. When I returned from my overnight hospital stay to check on my belongings, less than 24 hours later, a woman said that I had to leave and was not a member of the community. I was given my stuff and didn't get any kind of discharge paperwork. This place was paid $3,800 to not feed me and kick me out when my body gave up.

I was a client there. Today I was kicked out based on lies fabricated by Rich, 2nd shift tech. A client was carrying a lot of groceries, a client asked me for a pack of smokes, I had my headphones on and thought he asked me to grab a bag of groceries, so I went inside the office, got my meds, and came out and grabbed a bag of groceries which I thought was his, brought it home, set it on the counter in the kitchen and went to bed. 30 minutes later Rich came in my room and asked if I took a bag, sleepily confused I said no. He returned 30 minutes later and said he saw me take a bag from the office porch on camera, he then asked if I had the groceries in my room, I replied no and they were welcome to search. They did not conduct a room search. I then stated I grabbed the bag for another housemate after he asked me to grab one, he went and got the other clients and the client stated he asked me for a pack. At that time I realized I had mistakenly grabbed another persons bag and went to the kitchen where I left it, followed by a tech named Tim. I handed it to him IN THE KITCHEN WHERE IT WAS LEFT, and apologized for the mistake. At that time I thought the incident was handled. Later that night rich wrote a report stating he found the items in my closet underneath a pile of clothes. This morning I was administratively discharged for theft based on Riches false report. These people are committing fraud on a daily basis. The food is terrible, houses are filthy and the groups are a joke. DO NOT GO THERE. IF YOU ARE AN ADDICT IN NEED IF HELP DO NOT GO THERE YOUR SOBRIETY WILL BE IN JEOPARDY. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT..THEY SET PEOPLE UP AND LIE IN REPORTS ALL THE TIME.

I have gone to this treatment facility at least 4 times. I stayed in Rockcrest for 4 months at one point too. I absolutely loved PMRC, the staff was amazing in every aspect. The cooks were great, the techs were extremely nice and supportive, and the counselors there were invested in their patients. I seriously recommend going to PMRC. There's a reason I always went back when I needed help in my recovery. Without them, I wouldn't be where I am today. I currently have 4 years clean and I wouldn't be here without the people at PMRC! Not to mention, the whole place let's you hang outside in the fresh air and enjoy the nature and animals around you. Extremely helpful for me compared to other places that basically keep you cooped up inside all day :)

My name is Zack, and I'm an alcoholic. PMRC saved my life. There's no other way to explain it. From the counselors to the people in the rooms in the Poconos, they all had a hand in my recovery. I'm now 6 years and 11 days sober. If you're thinking about bettering your life from addiction and don't know where to start, PMRC will guide you to that better life.

I showed up to PMRC broken. Emotionally, psychologically, & spiritually compromised. I left there for their PHP feeling better than I did in the past 15 years. During my time there I paid attention & did not cause any drama. I read books & hung out with amazing peers. Yes, some dumb things happened. You are dealing with the human condition. If you show up with the intention of getting better, you will get better. Your recovery is in your hands. The food is good, you’ll get your meds, you’ll do your groups, & if you’re lucky you’ll meet some amazing people. I still talk to people who were there with me.

Pocono Mountain Recovery Center provided me with a safe, compassionate environment to heal, and gain tools to enable me to stay sober. The staff is dedicated and experienced beyond measure. I truly appreciated that a good deal of the techs and counselors were also in recovery. They had a deep personal understanding of my illness, which better equipped them, as well as created a trusting dynamic. I was originally planning to complete a 30 day aftercare program, however, I chose to remain the sober living program for 5 months, and gain every bit of help I could get... And they gladly obliged. I celebrated my 2 year rebirthday on August 21, 2020, forged permanent bonds and friendships with those i met there, and am currently seeking a career in recovery, to pay forward the opportunity afforded me by PMRC, to live sober, and stay in service. If you are serious about sobriety, this is the place to go!
