About Discovery Mood & Anxiety Program – Los Alamitos

Discovery Mood & Anxiety Program in Los Alamitos, California, provides mental health and addiction treatment to teens and adults. Support extends to veterans, active duty military staff, and the LGBTQ+ community. The center is in-network with various major insurance providers, though coverage may be subject to change, so it’s recommended you verify with the insurance team.

Outpatient Drug Rehab Services & Virtual Treatment

Choose from partial hospitalization programming (PHP) and intensive outpatient programming (IOP) depending on your personal needs and goals. PHP is highly structured, and recommended for anyone needing more substantial, structured support. Meanwhile, IOP remains structured, yet flexible in a way that allows you to access continuous care while juggling daily work or study responsibilities.

Telehealth is also a great option for anyone who can’t make regular in-person sessions, allowing you to access treatment programming remotely from the comfort of your home or place of work.

The center itself is conveniently located by the 605 freeway, and is part of a complex of office buildings with parking included.

Therapeutic Approaches & School Support

You can expect to engage in various therapeutic methods, with an overall focus on mindfulness, emotional regulation, identity exploration, distress tolerance, anger management, coping mechanisms and boosting your self-esteem.

Family involvement is also encouraged where possible, with opportunities to support the treatment planning process, and strengthen family dynamics. For teens, a school support program is available, which includes an educational liaison to help them juggle schoolwork, recovery commitments, and reintegrate back into the school environment.

A Transformative Journey with Discovery Center My teenage daughter recently completed the PHP the IOP at the Discovery Center and I cannot express enough how grateful I am for the experience. From the moment she was enrolled, I felt a warmth and understanding that was immediately comforting. Expert and Caring Staff: The team at Discovery Center is exceptional. The therapists and counselors are not only highly qualified but also incredibly empathetic. They tailor the program to fit individual needs, ensuring that everyone feels seen and heard. Their dedication to each participant's journey is evident in every interaction. My daughter spent so much time there, it was inevitable that she would make friendships and relationships even above and beyond the patient-therapist roles. My daughter would come home many times with stories about the staff members that went above and beyond their duties and would show how much they genuinely care about her and other clients. Community and Support: The sense of community within this program is something special. Group sessions were designed to be safe spaces where sharing was encouraged, but never forced. She made connections and the peer support was invaluable. Knowing she was not alone in her struggles changed everything. Accessibility: The program's structure was accommodating, with options for both PHP and IOP sessions, making it incredibly accessible. The flexibility was crucial for my family as it allowed us to balance the program with our daily responsibilities. The staff is beyond understanding with the clients/children with drop-offs and pick-ups, knowing that we all have lives outside of the program. Sustainability: Beyond the duration of the program, Discovery Center offers resources and follow-up support to ensure that the positive changes are sustainable. From workshops to alumni groups, there's a clear commitment to long-term mental health. Personal Growth: I've noticed significant changes in my daughter - increased self-awareness, better emotional regulation, and a newfound confidence. This program didn't just help her cope; it helped her thrive. In conclusion, the Discovery Center has been a beacon of hope and healing in my daughter's life. I would recommend this program to families seeking not just relief but also a path to a happier, healthier child. Thank you, Discovery Center, for not only giving my daughter the tools to manage her mental health but for also enriching her life in ways my wife and I never imagined.

This program saw me at my lowest points. Before coming, I didn't think I'd make it to the age I am now. I was in and out of their IOP and PHP programs, and thanks to the kindness of the therapists and staff, I'm now doing so much better. Recovery is scary, and therapy for 3/6 hours a day is daunting, but ultimately this program not only changed but saved my life.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Although the mental health battle is never over, after 6 months here, I was sad to leave. It's now been almost 2 years, I never thought I'd make it to adulthood and big thanks to Laura and Brittany, I'm thriving. Online, the building and idea of 3-6 hour therapy seems depressing, but in real life, it's life changing and interesting every single day.

Discovery Behavioral Health - Mood and Anxiety Program. If you can avoid to work there. Please do it. Unpleasant place. First place, I never felt uncomfortable working there. I was trapped by their fancy name and site. After a few months of working there, I realized the fakes. I believe the person who wrote a review when says is filled with favoritism and retaliation. I experienced that with the program’s president and regional director. Both are possessing a macromanaging mentality combine with poor judgment. I was traumatized and terrified by their action against me and other staff. They are making their decision according to lies and dishonesty opinion from manipulative staff who are favor staff. Every time I remember what they did to me and how they treated me. I wanted to throw up. I wish you bad karma and bad luck both of you for what you did to me and other. I hope you never find peace in your life. it is very unprofessional and evil to try destroy people's lives and reputations. I regret to work for this agency. Unfortunately, this program runs by unprofessional managers. This program is full of lies, unfairness, unprofessional attitude, and behavior. Easily you can be subject to retaliation and mistreatment. They are not supportive to their staff at any time. Easily you can get burned out. The outreach program is another story of unskilled, inexperienced, and unprofessional. They need to be trained and redirected. Need to learn first what outreach means and the goals of outreach before that learn how to be passionate and have the heart to serve people.this week I tested what a real supervisor and manager support means. The sense you missed when I was work over there. You to check that because they are lacking those skills. West of time and money. They do not deserve even one star. Is a disappointed company notpromising anything good for your future? Don't waste your time. Favoritism and distrust destroy this service and low standards managers such as the program president Regional Director, and the HR staff director. Over a year since I left this company, I feel happier and more relaxed. I can see the difference between this unkind company and where I work now. Big different. An extremely unhealthy place to be associated with. Just today I remember the HR director who is now the head employees relationship department or whatever. she is never taking the employee complaint seriously. She sided with bad people. she is unfair and not taking the employee's complaint seriously. Extremely unhealthy environment. Shame on you CEO you did see all that and never intervene to protect the agency from this kind of behavior and get rid of this dysfunctional person who destroyed people's souls and dignity. God is here. Justice will serve one day. Very toxic environment. Most weak and Disconnected management and managers. Those two ladies.Amy and Traci. I don’t know where you are in life currently. What you did to us is still fresh and will never be forgotten. Discussed program and questionable management. Micromanaging and distributing services are run by unskilled managers and leaders. Their styles are questionable. Two ways from this questionable place trauma is still there. One day will it heals. those managers ladies they don't know what are they doing. Working in place for over 20 means you are good. But the opposite. Because exposed to different. You fail to run this place.they are very mentally and emotionally abusive management. They support the bad and unprofessional behavior of some of their employees. Unfortunately, they are racist and unkind people. Bad attitudes and behavior have been tolerated in this company. Be careful when applying to work there. worse supervisor worse leaders. I am just reviewing and cleaning my office sat home I found some old documents from this discussing company. Traci and Amy you are both most rudest and discussing leaders I have to work under them. You are unprofessional behavior it costs me a lot. God will punish you one day for me and other you destroyed their lives.

Went here for about almost 2 years in between the iop and php programs they provided. In coming here I have met some of the most influential people I have ever met and a life long support system. I have seen therapist’s come and go but ultimately the program taught me incredibly valuable skills that i take with me everywhere i go. Truly has been the most helpful treatment center to note of. Staff is incredibly supportive and friendly and have very healthy theraputic relationships with their patients This is the first place I recommend to those who are struggling because it genuinely helped me find myself. Amazing tools provided for self esteem and anxiety, depression, and maladaptive behavior all around. These people really care and take time to personalize client’s individual needs. Special thanks to the program director who had a very big impact on me ♥️

They treat the kids with no respect and when dealing with racism they don’t take it seriously. They yelled at a client for standing up for themself. Never go there!!!! Melody is an awful person and should not be working with kids!!! And to be clear I went there and I would never want to wish the same thing I went through to others. It’s worse than res. melody is a deranged individual.

I went here in 2021, the program manager cynthia was so rude and unfriendly. I was struggling with an eating disorder at the time and she made so many unnecessary comments about it. they tried to scare me into eating. The only good people from the program were nate and lindsay.
