I must say, I'm glad I took a chance on this place. Been 6 years. I don't know where I would he without Dr. Bryant, the nurses & the scheduling girls. I'm sad to see Dr. Bryant go. She just got me ! Imma miss her so much. I almost cried when I got that call today that they were setting me up with someone else because Dr..Bryant left. 😞 but I have faith in porter-starke, I'm sure the next one will be just as good as her. But dang she was a real gem ! And they are done with telehealth visits too. That's a thumbs down. Ughhh but overall, this place has never done me wrong. I was down bad mentally when I first walked into that place 6 years ago. I was right on that edge with one foot over. The hardest thing you will ever have to do is admit you need help. One appointment with Dr. Bryant & I was immediately put on depression meds, within a month as the meds starting working I felt myself smile again for the first time in many years. Now, I'm the best I've ever been in my life. Porter starke is a village and in a moment you truly need them , they all come together. From nurses, to doctors, to front desk girls, to even a case worker. Now , I don't know if that case worker still exists, But when I first started , she would call and check on me. She has good resources to emergency housing, Food, Transportation if you need it to appointments, So many other things that she helped me with. Oh yeah And she helped me apply for disability too and other assistance. I have never had a problem getting my medication , but she also would help relay messages to the nurses and doctors for you. They also have a pharmacy inside the building. I mean It takes a village sometimes.

Honestly everyone, I been going here since I was a teenager and I have never really had a problem with them. People should understand, there are laws in place that these doctors have to follow, as long as you do your blood work when they ask and go to your appointments, you will never go without your medication. I promise. Some reviews are saying they have been without their medication for months and that the doctor just randomly stopped their medication for no reason, I don't believe that. It's simply not the truth. In 15 years, I have NEVER went without my medication! I think one time they forgot to send my scripts to the pharmacy and I simply just called the nurses and left a message and within 4 hours that medication was ready at the pharmacy and the nurse called and apologized profusely. The nurses are the backbone of that place, they try the best they can. They are human, mistakes are made. Instead of calling and yelling at them, just kindly explain the problem. They will fix it. But if you missed your appointments or didn't do what the doctor asked of you, only you can fix it , don't blame the doctors and nurses because the doctor asked you for the past 4 visits to get bloodwork and you still haven't done it (they give you several warnings) and don't blame them because you didn't go to your appointment, now your medication is due and you have no scripts at the pharmacy left. They don't ask much of us, They really don't Every 3 months they physically have to lay eyes on you and see that you are ok before sending 3 more months of scripts over to the Pharmacy. You need bloodwork maybe once a year. That's all really. I know I can't change anyone's mind about this place, but please don't read the reviews & let it stop you or scare you away from getting the help you need. They will help you, I promise!! & with no judgment. As long as you go to your appointments and do what the doctor asks of you, you won't have a problem and will never go without your medication. I promise the very last thing that place wants is a bunch of mental health patients without their medications. But their are laws they have to follow. This place isn't as bad as people make them out to be. Truly. That's I wanted to say.

I heard about this facility from a friend and I decided to give it a try. The program works really well if you put in the work. The food is great and the staff hold you accountable, the facility could be a little bit cleaner but with one cleaning lady who puts in a lot of work what do you expect.This facility makes you feel like you will be ready to get out there on your own and succeed on your recovery journey.

I can't stand the negative reviews. YES I WAS THERE. Six months ago, I almost didn't stay but I did. Such incredible staff and an incredible program. Met some of the greatest people to ever want to change their life around. Residential was amazing. PHP also an incredible program attended both with full support from all staff and peers. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND RECOVERY WORKS TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BETTER THEMSELVES.

I had a great experience with Better Life md, the whole process was very simple! I really liked the provider, and the rest of the staff were very nice and helpful. I met Dr. O today, he was so nice and informative, he does an incredible job of explaining things, and he truly cares. I can see that in people, and he is a dr that really cares about patients he cares for. It’s rare this day and age, and I really respect that, I am really happy I made the switch to Dr. O’s office. I’ve seen some of the negative reviews here, and I wanted to share a different perspective. This is difficult work. The staff often meet people on some of the hardest days of their lives, and those situations aren’t always easy. I’ve personally seen staff deal with some incredibly difficult circumstances, and I’ve been impressed by the patience, kindness, and professionalism they show. Are things always perfect? Of course not. But there are a lot of really good people here who care about what they do and genuinely want to help. I think that deserves to be said, too.

After completing inpatient rehabilitation, I transitioned into the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at Parkdale Center and I can say with my whole heart that it was one of the most life-changing and soul-healing experiences I’ve ever had. Parkdale didn’t just help me continue my recovery, they helped me to continue to find myself again. They believed in me, held space for my pain, and gave me the tools and encouragement to continue to rise stronger than I ever thought possible. From the leadership to the support staff, everyone at Parkdale exudes compassion, professionalism, and a deep commitment to healing. But what makes Parkdale truly exceptional are people like Rigo and Claudia. They treated me not like a number or a case, but like family. There was zero judgment, only humility, kindness, and an unwavering belief in my potential. Rigo felt like a steady big brother, firm when needed, but always full of heart. Claudia radiates warmth and made me feel safe, seen, and cared for in a way that felt almost sacred. These two, and so many others at Parkdale (like Dr. Chris, Denise, Ty, David) restored my faith in people and reminded me that recovery is possible when you’re surrounded by those who genuinely care. Parkdale is the best at what they do because they combine clinical excellence with human connection. Their program isn’t just about sobriety, it’s about rebuilding your life with dignity, strength, and purpose. If someone I love ever needed help, Parkdale is the place I would trust. Having used their facilities for our Union members and for a family member, the counselors are caring, responsive, and communicate very well on a treatment plan and objectives & goals. Ms Tori awesome!!!!! The group meetings and accountability for each other in treatment works in a great atmosphere. I would strongly recommend this facility if a friend, co-worker, and family members are in need of help with addictions and/or mental health. It is located in chesterton nearby for visitation purposes.

I’ve never written a review like this before, but Belinda at Regional Health absolutely deserves it. She is, without exaggeration, the sweetest and most genuinely caring person I have ever dealt with at any establishment. I’ve never even met her in person, yet she has treated me with more kindness, consistency, and dedication than most people you meet face-to-face. Belinda goes above and beyond in every way. She helped me find an amazing doctor, made sure my medications were taken care of, and anytime she said she would do something, I knew for a fact it would get done. No doubts. No chasing. No stress. There were days she even made late calls just to make sure everything was handled for me, then followed up to confirm things went smoothly. It’s rare to find someone in healthcare who brings this level of compassion and follow-through. She has made my life a million times easier, and I’m genuinely grateful for her. Let me just say I was a patient at Medmark for years and above everything no matter what because they open at 4:45 AM says it all. They generally want to meet everyday people’s needs to live a normal life.In and out the door before 5am to do what you need to do w your life. Try and find another clinic that does that for you. You won’t. Working men and women this your clinic. Just no weed. Sorry.

I do not typically do these reviews however I felt very strongly I needed to. I have been in the program for over 7 years. The program honestly saved my life after trying several other things. My addiction became like most had back problems and my doctors were very free to prescribe the opioids and benzodiazepines. Xanax was actually the worst for me hospitalized for over 10 days due to all the seizures. Anyways the nurses Yolanda Jackie Val are sweethearts and have never judged me once. Yolanda is the one person who always tells me she is proud of me I don’t even hear that from family. Kim who runs front desk is also great. In my experience I have had around 6 counselors and sorry to say this is the downfall here. I don’t know if they are overworked micromanaged or just don’t care but I have had to go elsewhere for my counseling. I have promise for my new counselor April who is new to this location. Since starting she has been on top on my case not letting anything slide. She gets accomplished what the 5 others took months to do and I appreciate that. Non judgmental follow-up and just caring she accomplishes where most can’t and this is what keeps me clean and alive and I thank her for that more than I can say. Doctor is a different story for a different day I will just say to the women ask that a third person be in the room. That’s all!

When I watched an online video of my son Terrance getting his brains obliterated and having the remaining chunks of his face slamming into the dirt I never thought I'd get over with it. Now I'm not gonna lie, I didn't. I still have nightmares of him asking for help trying to communicate with his face half-missing. But at least thanks to Edgewater Health, Dr. Lipschitz helped me get a bi-weekly supply of Zoloft and Oxycotton. We gettin' LIT. Thank you Terrance for all your help over the years, but your death has semented my life into being bliss, GOD BLESS OPIOIDS!

Over the days that the power was off the staff at Semeron/New Season did an outstanding job. They did thier best during an extremly difficult time. They went above and beyond to accommodate us patients the best they could. The only thing I would say that needs to be addressed is that they had to rent a generator because there's not one already provided for them. The amount of storms we have in NWI,it has happened before and will definitely happen again. The staff and patients deserve to know they'll have a clinic to come to everyday to continue our recovery journey.

Thankfully staff worked hard to keep the clinic open and kept everything well organized during the recent national disaster in which there was no power for almost 2 weeks! I was surprised that they didnt have a generator but that's probably bc of cooperate.

I couldn't be more thankful even if I tried to Midwest for everything they did for my child. Always informed of how things were going. Some of the issues we had there weren't caused by staff but by other residents. The staff did what they could to keep everything at peace and help them use the skills they've been taught at the facility. I'm extremely thankful for the nurses and Meghan her therapist. Everyone we dealt with from front desk to the Doctor was amazing. Reading the reviews prior to admission I was absolutely terrified and hesitant, now I'm eternally grateful for Midwest.

As a parent currently navigating the incredibly difficult and emotional experience of having a child in inpatient behavioral treatment, I wanted to share a more balanced perspective regarding Midwest. Like many parents, I read the reviews before my son arrived and was absolutely terrified. While no facility is perfect, and this type of environment is extremely intense and constantly evolving, our experience so far has included several staff members whose passion, compassion, and dedication deserve recognition. Jasmine has been absolutely incredible. Her ability to balance the emotional needs of the patients while also managing staff and unit dynamics is something I genuinely admire. She listens, communicates honestly, remains calm under pressure, and approaches these kids with both accountability and compassion. Angie has such a calming and compassionate presence. You can genuinely feel that she cares deeply about the kids and the work she is doing. Cece has years of experience and taps into her mothering nature to provide a stable environment, often at the cost of the patients giving her flack for her consistency. She is a kind soul who has clearly dedicated herself to this type of work. Mama D has shown so much affection, concern, and dedication toward these boys. In an environment where many of these kids are struggling emotionally and behaviorally, that warmth matters more than people realize. Jamar has also stood out to me because of the stability and consistency he brings to the unit. At the same time, he still seems to understand that these are teenagers who occasionally need moments of laughter, flexibility, and normalcy within appropriate boundaries. Communication has been open throughout this process, although not always perfectly consistent, which honestly should be expected in a setting where staff are constantly navigating changing emotional, behavioral, and safety situations involving multiple adolescents at once. As a parent, this has been one of the hardest experiences of my life. But I also recognize how emotionally demanding this work is for the people caring for these kids every day. I simply wanted to acknowledge the staff members who have made a meaningful difference for our family during an incredibly difficult time. I will update this review once we have completed treatment there, but going on week four, I am very thankful that we ended up choosing Midwest. My son is always clean, has not complained about the facilities or the food, and he is a very picky eater. Yes, some of these reviews probably have some basis, especially those written by former patients. These kids are navigating very difficult emotions and issues in a world that I often find difficult to navigate even as an adult. There is no doubt in my mind that each of these kids is going to have a different experience and perspective while there and post-treatment. It is very much a situation where outcomes depend partly on whether the child is emotionally able and willing to engage in the work of treatment. Many are navigating medication changes, new diagnoses, changing home environments, and hormones all at the same time. It is a lot. I also wanted to add that our son brought up an issue with a staff member to us, and at first we took it with a grain of salt. After additional conversations, we began to believe there was merit to some of his concerns regarding this staff member. Jasmine handled this situation maturely and appropriately while balancing all sides of it. While I could understand my son's perspective, I have also grown to have deep care and concern for our mental health workers. This staff member is likely in need of a break from the unit she has been on for a lengthy amount of time, and this was addressed immediately before it spiraled into something bigger. So, if you're where we were a month ago, I get it. Take some deep, deep breaths, and make a call to Midwest and talk through your concerns. I think you will find that they are a very transparent behavioral health center that is constantly striving to improve.

I was threatened by my therapist Ashley here I was told since I didn’t wanna continue appointments that I must be having a mental health crisis I told her I wasn’t and just didn’t wanna see her anymore then hung up I was then called multiple times from the regional health in Merrillville calling to inform me that they were informed I was having a mental health crisis and they may need to involve law enforcement to locate me to bring me in for a 72 hour hold even tho I was not in crisis this did however increase my anxiety and put me in a sense of I was doing something to deserve this even tho I knew I did nothing wrong I kept my phone on airplane mode since they kept calling me eventually it stoped however I did stop talking to the therapist I wanted to countuie seeing my psychiatrist dr.lee so I call to make a appointment and the lady on the phone Rosa says yes one moment we will get you back in for a appointment I wait and wait only to be hung up on. So call back only to be sent to voicemail over and over again never answers never received a call back.this place is a joke they do not care about your mental health all they care about is getting paid they don’t wanna help they just want you in and out the door as quickly as possible but when your job is to help people who are struggling with mental health issues/personal issues you don’t just wave them on or ignore them you’re supposed to be the ones helping this place is very unprofessional and needs to be looked at by the state

This place is absolutely awful. If it weren't for the one great provider I have here, I would never return. I have been in to have my bloodwork done and wound up being made to wait FORTY-FIVE MINUTES after my appointment time. Then the person taking the blood tried only a single vein and she gave up on me. I said I want to take the order elsewhere and she gave me an order not signed. I had to come back to the office to get the order and was given a manually completed order by an assistant that was incorrect and missing essential testing, such as the levels of my current medication and pregnancy test so my provider could know what she should be prescribing. This isn't the first circus with the lab I have had here but definitely the most annoying and absolutely frustrating. I also have had two therapy appointments canceled because the elevator is consistently breaking down and they were not able to accommodate me when I arrived for my appointment, as I cannot take the stairs. However, I had to reschedule the therapy appointment twice and I was told I couldn't do that according to their cancelation policy. I call and give 24 hour notice but apparently am not allowed. It seems pretty backwards that they can waste my time, my money to get a ride there and back, only to be told the elevator is broken and I can't be seen. When I give notice and reschedule that is apparently against policy. It seems backwards considering I didn't waste anyone's time or money with my advance call of notice. Also this place is absolutely awful about getting calls to the right people, or leaving messages for the correct people and never hearing back. They also cut you off when you are leaving a message. 95% of the time you are never hearing back from the staff. It makes it so frustrating and you never know if the right person received the message, if they are going to call back or if you just had to hope for the right outcome. I have also had issues refilling my medication. There have been times I have called days ahead of when I need a refill of my essential mental health medicine and did not hear anything back and did not get a refill resulting in me having to call the emergency after hours line to get any help. This shouldn't happen. These are medicines that are essential to maintain for a healthy, stable mind. If it were not for the one fantastic provider here I would never return. The building, the phones, the elevator, everything is falling apart including the service and patient care.

As a patient with a Major Depressive Disorder, I was treated with the correct treatment that helped me with my symptoms and they offered there my medication while they ordered for me, also they helped with a program application to get a discount. So sad to be updating this review because this place turned so bad. I love the staff and loved it BUT about a month or 2 ago they got a new doctor and she's so bad! Messing with so many clients meds and lying to clients faces and so so much more! It's sad when she first started my councler even warned me how bad she is :( I don't recommend this place until they get a new good doctor!

My girlfriend and I battle opiate addiction and have went to the victory clinic in south bend (where we're from)to try getting off the opiates but left there more frustrated and discouraged than before. Now we go to Swanson and it's amazing. We are understood, heard, and not judged. People there believe in us and are willing to do anything to see us succeed So far we love it.

I went to the swanson center afraid I was going to get a doctor who wasn't going to listen to me, just prescribe pills, and send me on my way. BUT no, that is not what I got. I got a nice lady named Gloria, who , like me, is a dog lover and encouraged me to bring my dog in next appointment. I am excited to go back with my dog, not only because I can bring my dog with me, but because I liked her energy and responsive care to my woes and sorrows. Made me feel comfortable and at ease.
