About New Hanover Metro Treatment Center

New Hanover Metro Treatment Center is an opioid addiction treatment center that’s located in Wilmington, North Carolina. They have a team of addiction professionals who will work with you to create a custom treatment plan for your needs. Medication Assisted Treatment, counseling, and medical exams are some of the services that are provided at a low fee.

Effective Treatment While Continuing Your Daily Life

The facility chooses to use medication assisted treatment for addiction recovery because they believe it’s the most effective treatment program. It’s designed to address the psychological and physiological components of your addictions. Staff members can use the approach to treat addictions to substances such as fentanyl, hydrocodone and codeine. You’ll receive your treatment while continuing to go to school, work, or tend to family obligations.

You’ll receive clinically approved medications such as methadone, Buprenorphine, or Suboxone. While methadone may be ideal for patients with higher levels of physical dependency, all three medications are effective at reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

Achieving Long Lasting Success Through Counseling

Along with medication, you’ll receive addiction counseling as a part of your medication assisted treatment. Your counselor will teach you about the effects of substances on your brain and your behaviors. Through either individual, group, or family counseling, you’ll develop your coping skills, understand your triggers, and establish a plan that will help you overcome your addiction.

Immediate Treatment Through NARCAN

One unique thing I noticed about the New Hanover Metro Treatment Center is they are a NARCAN® distribution site. NARCAN® Nasal Spray is used to immediately treat a known or suspected opioid overdose. The facility offers a confidential educational program on the medication and provides it to all individuals.

Fun Activities in Wilmington

If you want a place where all their employees quit and tell you all year you owe nothing, then the following year tell you, you owe thousands. This is the place for you. They will tell you the following year so it’s too late to switch places , too late to switch to cash pay (which would have been cheaper then insurance) , too late to even claim on taxes, too late to take advantage of meeting deductible. I’m not the only one , they admit that there are others they did this too. All to their own negligence. They didn’t bill all year and somehow that’s now our fault. They also demand you pay part of balance or they won’t dose you. The director “Charlie” is probably the worst of all. Does not know how to communicate with respect or appropriate social ques. I neeevver leave reviews. But anyone looking to dose here or guest dose. Please save yourself by going anywhere else. My insurance pays over 800 dollars a week just for methadone dosing. That’s over $40,000 dollars a year! Where as, if I was cash pay it is $5,840 a year. And then they still want me to pay thousands on top. But don’t worry they “care” about you getting treatment. That’s why there isn’t one employee who is still there from when I first came to them over a year ago.

Update; This Place still has not reimbursed my money that Medicaid has paid them. (still waiting and they refused to call me back) NOT waste your time, If you are truly serious about getting clean. They do not care about your sobriety. They are all about money, they will alter your drug screens and they CANNOT keep staff or clients. I have been clean for a year. So this review is real I’m not ranting or blaming anybody. These are facts.I have went over and beyond to change my life for the Better. I moved 4hrs, To change people, places and things. I was truly serious about my recovery. I even started taking classes to get certified for peer support and soon will be starting addiction counseling courses. All they care about is money even if you have insurance they will try to make you pay while your insurance is already paying them. I have been waiting a year to get my money refunded to me. Medicaid has already Reimbursed them, but they supposedly cannot find it. They have their own personal lab so even if you are clean, you have to still ask “ Hey, can you check my UA” bc they Alter it. Just To get $35 from you for a retest to prove it negative. I’m sorry my recovery is worth more than $35. I have been there for a year and the only thing that kept me there so long was The counselors. They were amazing. But unfortunately, they got tired of the BS And left. The nurses and doctor has also left. As well as a ton of patience, have transferred just like I have. It’s really sad in a slap in the face when the facility you’re turning to For help doesn’t even care about you. I have been to many clinics in Charlotte and never got treated like I have at this one even while I was still Actively using. I just want Them to pay me my money, what’s owed to me. Medicaid has already reimbursed them and now they need to pay me. It’s Going on a year.

Accepted Insurance

Please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

New Hanover Metro Treatment Center works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Clients receiving treatment at an inpatient rehab facility are typically in early recovery or are at heightened risk of relapse. Clients in inpatient care remain at the facility for the duration of their program, enabling them to focus solely on their recovery. Inpatient treatment typically involves extensive psychotherapy, often including group and family counseling as well as one-on-one sessions. Recovery-focused life skills education is another common service. Many rehabs also offer evidence-based holistic therapies.

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) evolve with clients' changing needs and are often well-suited for clients exiting inpatient rehab and those at an increased relapse risk. These programs typically involve between nine and 20 hours of treatment weekly, with the intensity and frequency of care decreasing as clients stabilize. Most intensive outpatient rehabs integrate a variety of treatment modalities to maintain a high level of individualized care. Services generally include counseling, recovery education, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Rehab aftercare programs offer a complete continuum of care for clients in the maintenance phase of recovery and are predicated on the idea that addiction disease is a chronic condition prone to relapse and warranting continuing care. Clients collaborate with their care team and case manager to access the specific rehab aftercare services they need to promote their sustained sobriety. Peer coaching, relapse prevention services, career counseling, and 12 step program induction are common in these programs.

12 step programs are based on a model of life-long recovery and are rooted in peer support and spiritual development. Regular attendance at 12 step meetings is the cornerstone of treatment, as is the selection of a peer sponsor to guide participants through the steps of recovery. These steps are based on non-denominational spiritual principles and are designed to foster self-awareness, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability. Specialized programs are widely available, including programs for teens, seniors, and families.

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

There are many types of drug rehab in North Carolina. To receive treatment for addiction, you can choose from many inpatient and outpatient programs. Often, participants start with detox and work through a full continuum of care that continues with ongoing support for long-term recovery.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.
