About Black Bear Lodge

At Black Bear Lodge, each person’s treatment journey will be unique. Most programs start with a subacute detox period where you’ll be able to rid your body of any drug toxins. Medical teams will be monitoring you or a loved one to help with any symptoms that arise as a result of withdrawal.

Next, individuals attend a residential program where they can take advantage of recreational therapy, talk therapy, and group activities. One of the best things about Black Bear Lodge is that they offer unique nature retreats, hikes, and outdoor experiences. Something about the great outdoors is always healing and refreshing.

Another great thing about Black Bear Lodge is the impact it has on individuals who seek out the facility’s help. Previous clients have felt safe and supported in the program and were very glad they chose to seek treatment here. These experiences highlight how impactful the program can be on a person’s journey towards recovery.

Accepted Insurance

Black Bear Lodge works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient drug rehab programs offer clients an amazing amount of options. Often, programs differ due to the intensity of the treatments they provide to their clients. At one end of the spectrum, some programs provide care in a series of appointments, asking clients to head in for treatments on a weekly basis. This could be an ideal type of care for people who have already been through an intensive form of treatment and who need only a few sessions of follow-up care in order to stay successful. Those who need a little more help, however, might need to enroll in programs that provide a few more hours of care each week.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential addiction treatment is considered the best path to recovery. Comprehensive in nature, a residential program can provide clients with all the resources and support he or she needs to move past addiction. Residential treatment gives patients the opportunity to dedicate all their time to healing and growth in recovery. As a 24-hour treatment program offers patients room and board as well as constant therapeutic and medical support, patients are without the stressors of daily life or relationships to distract them. They are free to engage in a number of different treatment resources chosen based on their personal needs with around-the-clock assistance should they need it.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober living homes in Georgia offers an alternative to the abrupt change of moving from intensive treatment to an unstructured home environment. Men's and women's sober living homes replicate everyday life situations, but they do so in a sober environment while also reinforcing healthy habits. This reduces the chance of relapse. Individuals who could use extra support after rehab or don't have a stable home environment can benefit from this transitional option.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

24-hour clinical care in Georgia reduces the risks involved in detox and addiction treatment. Without access to professional medical care, individuals may experience withdrawal symptoms that become life threatening. For example, alcohol withdrawal can cause delirium tremens, confusion, and cardiac symptoms. Without medical supervision to step in, these symptoms could potentially turn fatal.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

A person with a substance abuse issue might easily qualify for a diagnosis of mental illness. People who use and abuse addictive substances tweak chemical levels inside the brain on a regular basis, and their moods might be erratic and changeable as a result. In a Dual Diagnosis program, therapists integrate issues that pertain to both conditions in each therapy they provide. his kind of tailored care is the best way to deal with addiction recovery complicated by mental illness.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Families are the most immediate support systems, and integrating family into the treatment and rehabilitation process is an important part of the philosophy at Black Bear Lodge. Their goal is to teach families healthy ways to communicate, how to identify healthy and unhealthy behaviors, the dangers of codependency, the development of new coping skills and the incorporation of positive beliefs and patterns.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Business office is extremely hard headed and difficult to work with! Staff is great but extemely understaffed. They do everything they can but need help with the amount of patients they try to keep. They should definitely think about capping the number of patients they have until they can hire and train more staff. Plan on waiting for 15 minutes for rides to lunch and classes since they refuse to run more than one van for 80+ patients.

This is not a safe place for women. Don’t send your female friends and family here. They will not be protected. A male patient was offering drugs to new female patients, and asking female patients for sex in exchange for drugs. This was reported several times to staff, and nothing was done. Once he found out who had reported him (which never should have happened), he retaliated against said women and threatened them. The person who told him what the women reported was also not removed, even though she put our lives in danger, and was told not to do so several times. He also broke into one of the patient reporters cabins and into her room, thankfully she wasn’t there. This was also reported. Nothing done about it. He broke in another time and went through our stuff, nothing done. They wouldn’t even let us lock the doors. He continued to threaten female patients and make disgusting remarks. Nothing was done, he was never kicked out. When we tried to go to administration for help, we were told “we don’t discuss patients with patients.” Excuse me? They allowed someone with a history of violence against women to walk free on campus and continue threatening people. They did NOTHING to protect us. I eventually got in front of the entire lodge to call this behavior out. While I was cheered on by other patients for saying something, it was the opposite with staff. I did not feel safe there. My fellow women did not feel safe. We reported this to staff over and over and they did nothing. I’m not talking about the RA’s, they always reported to the higher ups. The higher ups also delighted in constantly changing the rules, informing no one, then punishing patients for not knowing the new rules. This happened again and again. It’s like they were deliberately messing with us. There are rules posted on the wall, but someone would come in a say that rule no longer applied with no explanation. It was crazy. Take yourself 45 min to Mount Sinai

I've been too multiple programs. And I honestly have to say this program went over and beyond in my journey too sobriety. The staff actually cares about your life. Even though I'm a grown man. They held my hand and was with me through every step of the way. And what really caught my attention. Is that the other residents treated me like family from day one. I met some very extraordinary and talented people there. And some friendships that might last a lifetime. And after it was time too go. They made sure that my next phase would safe and secure. GOD is Good!!!!!🙏#facts

I went to Black Bear Lodge back in February. It was one of the best decisions, if not the best, I’ve ever made. It totally changed my life. It helped me get sober and to find my true self after 55 years on earth. The staff were amazing, especially Mrs. Ginger, Mrs. Tiffany and Jim. The RA’s helped me out a lot. Many of them are also in recovery, so they knew where I was coming from. The cabins were excellent and the food was incredible. Let me not forget about the breathtaking Mountain views. I met life long friends while being there and we still encourage each other thru text, phone and social media. I think everyone should go to Black Bear at least once, preferably sooner than later. Even if you don’t have addiction problems. This place will change the way you think and live. Five stars for Black Bear Lodge.

I attended Black Bear Treatment Center (BBTC) in North Georgia April 25th through June 24th 2025 for Alcohol Substance Use Disorder (ASUD). This was my fourth in-residence treatment for ASUD in the past 12 years. BBTC is by far the best I have been a patient at. From a programming perspective the curriculum was on point for my situation and presented in a way that was understandable. The therapists were great and available which is a big deal. My assigned therapist and processing group was the best that I have encountered and helped with many of my issues. They also scheduled outside contracted speakers who were solid and valued added. Lodging, medical and meals were also top notch making the overall stay as good as it could be. The setting is beautiful being in the North Georgia mountains living in well kept cabins. The patient community was the strongest I have ever been associated with and there was a real feeling of family and we really supported each other. There are several different weekly “off-site” opportunities once you reach qualifying levels such as A.A./N.A. Meetings, zip lining and hiking. Post treatment there is a strong Alumni Program lead by Amber and I hope to be attending the Alumni Weekend event in September 2025. Prepare to do the work though. The hours are long however if you are there for all the rights reasons you will appreciate it. Overall I highly recommend BBTC for any and all substance abuse and mental health issues, regardless if this is your first or return treatment visits.
