Better late than never!I was a patient here 13 years ago, and still clean to this day. I am currently attending school to become an addiction counselor, and I couldn t help but think about my out patient counselor from so many years ago :) This process was by far not easy, but I just had to come here and give high praise to my counselor Jim. I don t know if he is still there but he was amazing and saved my life. He was kind and patient and relatable the three things we all really need when getting ourselves and our lives back together during a difficult time. Thank you Jim, words can never express how grateful I am for you.

its tough to write a poor review for a program that looks to help both young and old who struggle from mental illness as well as substance abuse but this place absolutely deserves it. I was floored when I went for my initial consult as a senior looking foran out patient program for someone with a dual diagnosis. This is not a place for adult professionals. Young kids hanging around the entrance way, the staff that greets you is totally inappropriate and unprofessional as well as the management staff. Please make sure you sign a waiver for them to not hit your insurance unless you enter a specific program. They are all about the money and hitting your insurance. They actually made me take a breathalyzer not only once after blowing a low number but again before I left otherwise they were going to call the Paramus police. If was a ploy to keep so they can send me there bull crap sales pitch. I went there looking for a group I could trust and was understanding to my situation and they treated me like I was at Bergen County Prison. STAY AWAY IF YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL AND HAVE INSURANCE. THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE.

Was forced to go here as a teenager. The amount of drugs I was introduced to by group members was so much more detrimental than the emotional issues I was having due to abusive parents. Oh, also the driver who would pick me up from school supplied us alcohol hoping to get us loose , let people hook up in the van while glancing in the rear view mirror, tried to physically assault me and did to several of the other girls, would switch out our pee which was conveniently stored in the same closet they kept the keys with people who were sober. The school is a joke, we would smoke pens in the bathroom or snort coke quickly in the class and joke High Focus where we focus high None of the group therapy actually was effective and extremely generic. They missed signs of self harm for many of the girls or recognized when half there groups were participating high. Of the group I was in at least 4 of them died of substance abuse, 2 suicides, one became a fairly successful drug dealer and two of us were able to close the chapter of our terrible childhoods. Don't send your kids here! They are negligent at best.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Many patients who graduate intensive outpatient programs have flourished in the group setting and wish to continue in the milieu at a lower level of care. Others may be working with an outpatient substance abuse professional in the community and wish to complement their individual counseling with a weekly group session.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
The Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program at High Focus Centers helps the individual to remain abstinent, engage in the twelve-step recovery process, and return to a normal, productive life. Treatment is comprised of individual, group, family and educational therapies, all integrated within the context of the twelve-step model of recovery. They provide day and evening programs 2-5 days a week for 3 hours per day, as well as a comprehensive family program, a Saturday relapse prevention program, and psychiatric evaluations and follow-up sessions, as needed.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

Many individuals suffer from both substance abuse and psychiatric disorders simultaneously. The initial assessment at High Focus is designed to identify the nuances that these patients present and offer a proper diagnosis so that the optimal treatment course can be pursued. A comprehensive program has been designed for individuals with a dual diagnosis which includes a weekly psychiatry session, a specialized psycho-educational curriculum designed specifically for the co-occurring population, group therapy interventions and DBT skills training. Co-occurring patients are given random, supervised drug screens.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational interviewing helps clients find their motivation to change. It can be an effective method to work with clients who are angry or hostile or feel insecure about their ability to make changes in their lives. It is often used during addiction treatment or to manage physical health conditions.

The Trauma Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) treats adults who have experienced a recent traumatic event, as well as those whose past history of trauma contributes to ongoing psychiatric symptoms or PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder). Structured as an IOP, the Trauma Program at High Focus Centers provides a level of care that is higher than traditional outpatient services. The Trauma Program is meant to complement longer term individual or group therapy for trauma or PTSD, either as an initial treatment experience, or as an alternative to traditional outpatient therapy during a period of heightened symptoms.

Most experts in couples therapy are trained in several modes of treatment. This allows your therapist to draw from various techniques to personalize your therapy for your needs. This may include cognitive, emotional, and behavioral methods, which are all designed to help you strengthen your relationship.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Do not send your child to this place. My daughter thought the staff actually cared about her then she got kicked out for horse playing. She has ADHD and was expect to sit for hours. This place is BORING and they only care about making money, not actually helping and teaching children new coping skills or strategies to overcome with what they are struggling with. The staff is COLD, rude and they act like they are high class and better than others.

I am a woman in her 60"s and I spent 3 weeks in this program. I would not recommend this program to anyone irrespective of age. We also had problems with payment. I highly recommend NY Presbyterian Hospital Westchester Division in White Plains NY.

I was forced to go here after a hospital stay back in 2023 when I was 18. Since I was 18, they placed me in the adult group in which most patients seemed to be in significantly later ages (40s-60s). Which is fine. It was just very hard to relate because we were going through completely different stages in life. That defeats the purpose of group therapy which is to make you feel like you're not alone. Won't go into too much detail but do your kids a favor and find a different treatment center with different approaches. The sessions are extremely generic and just give you "coping skills" such as DBT which is not realistic to anyone that's in crisis. I did the online program, was started in IOP, then told after 3 weeks that they needed to move me to PHP (more sessions, longer days, supposed to be more intense), after reading other reviews, now I'm wondering if they just wanted to charge my insurance more. They don't try to talk about specifically what makes you struggle as an individual. Even when you're having 1 on 1 sessions (which are not often), it didn't seem like they actually cared for you to feel better, just another name they had to cross off their session checklist. Anyone who's suffering enough mentally to be made to attend a treatment center needs specialized care and clinicians who have a true regard for mental health and helping patients find their way. No one who struggles with mental health wants to continute to struggle for the rest of their lives, but this place is not doing anything for you. The months I spent in this program made for one of the worst summers of my life. 2 years later, and I still struggle heavily. Waste of time seriously.

As soon as you come they tell you it won’t be your last time because you will fail. Then accuse you of still using cause their blood tests are wrong. I was telling another counselor how aroma therapy helped me with my addiction. My counselor over heard and said “if it’s not about recovery we can’t talk about it”. Plus I was introduced to heroin from the people I met here. Terrible program.

This place is truly a life saver if you are struggling mentally. I can't speak for the drug related therapy but I can see progress in everyone. If your looking for such a service do not even hesitate to come here. Most importantly it's LGBT friendly. Yes it's important for someone to feel comfortable in their own body, regardless what your thoughts may be. Please remember therapy is a family process. NOBODY is perfect and EVERYONE should work on communication skills

i would give this place 0 stars if i could, or a negative amount. i can confidently say that high focus has harmed me more than it has ever helped me. this is not the place for you or your child to go to if you’re looking to work on your mental health, or if you’re mandated to do so. i was here this year from april to june and i dreaded every second of it. this treatment program mainly consists of clinicians reading off of the most useless and redundant worksheets. we would talk about the same specific concepts with the same talking points every session, instead of switching it up. during the group therapy sessions, much of the time was spent discussing both progress and problems in romantic relationships, which was very annoying, but the clinicians never did anything to address this despite receiving complaints. i have schizophrenia and there were absolutely no resources at high focus to help people like me. instead, i had to see a nurse practitioner named zinny, who forced me to take olanzapine/zyprexa. when i told her i didn’t want to take this medication due to the high risk of weight gain (i was already obese), she told me, word for word, “you have no choice.” i gained 40 pounds in 2 months and thanks to zinny i now starve myself because of how much i hate my body, eating the same amount as a toddler. i also had phoebe as my clinician, and the entire time, she was very condescending and disapproving towards me whenever i expressed to her that high focus wasn’t helping me and that i didn’t want to be there anymore (i had to continue with high focus because my parents threatened to kick me out if i didn’t). phoebe also told me that how much i weigh shouldn’t matter over the benefits of the medication, despite the weight gain being highly detrimental to both my mental and physical health. to conclude, please find another treatment program for yourself or your child.
