I was told by the admissions team on the phone I would be able to do 3 days a week at night in order to keep my full time job. Got an intake appointment which required me to leave early from work and the woman told me I would not be able to do 3 days despite what admissions told me the day prior. This woman told me the times were entirely different than I was told and that since I couldn’t start THE NEXT DAY for therapy because I have a FULL TIME TEACHING JOB she would not preform an intake assessment. She then said 3 days a week would not be an option unless I was tapering off therapy (which was never said during my admissions call) and the program for me would be during the day. How can you tell me I need 5 days a week during the day when you don’t even know what I struggle with fully AND your admission team provides polar opposite schedule options? How are people who have to provide for their lives supposed to get the help they need if this place refuses to be flexible? “3 days a week is typically for tapering off…” So how about you have the people in ADMISSIONS warn people before they think they are able to get accommodating help around work.

TERRIBLE PLACE. do not send ur teens here. For the substance abuse program they just get introduced to more drugs and get more options for drug dealers. For the mental health program, different types of problems get placed in the same groups and is impossible to actually get help in what u need. For example my daughter had anger management problems but the other few kids has Self harm and suicidal problems. She was depressed being there because of all the things she was hearing from the other kids. She would get asked everyday 20 minutes of questions like "when's the last time u cut yourself" "when's the last time u attempted suicide" she didn't struggle with any of these things but was being surrounded by it. The clinician she had was an absolute joke. My daughter asked if she could be done with the program bc it was taking away important time at school and missing out on friends, the clician said she HAS to be there for atleast 16 more weeks. My daughter was upset and started tearing up and slightly crying. She said "see this is why your here, i don't cry when IM mad" Please don't go here no matter what positive comments say. There's more negative then positive and the bad outweighs the minor positives. All they want is money.

Accepted Insurance

High Focus Centers Paramus Outpatient Treatment Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Many patients who graduate intensive outpatient programs have flourished in the group setting and wish to continue in the milieu at a lower level of care. Others may be working with an outpatient substance abuse professional in the community and wish to complement their individual counseling with a weekly group session.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

The Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program at High Focus Centers helps the individual to remain abstinent, engage in the twelve-step recovery process, and return to a normal, productive life. Treatment is comprised of individual, group, family and educational therapies, all integrated within the context of the twelve-step model of recovery. They provide day and evening programs 2-5 days a week for 3 hours per day, as well as a comprehensive family program, a Saturday relapse prevention program, and psychiatric evaluations and follow-up sessions, as needed.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

Many individuals suffer from both substance abuse and psychiatric disorders simultaneously. The initial assessment at High Focus is designed to identify the nuances that these patients present and offer a proper diagnosis so that the optimal treatment course can be pursued. A comprehensive program has been designed for individuals with a dual diagnosis which includes a weekly psychiatry session, a specialized psycho-educational curriculum designed specifically for the co-occurring population, group therapy interventions and DBT skills training. Co-occurring patients are given random, supervised drug screens.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational interviewing helps clients find their motivation to change. It can be an effective method to work with clients who are angry or hostile or feel insecure about their ability to make changes in their lives. It is often used during addiction treatment or to manage physical health conditions.

The Trauma Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) treats adults who have experienced a recent traumatic event, as well as those whose past history of trauma contributes to ongoing psychiatric symptoms or PTSD (Posttraumatic Stress Disorder). Structured as an IOP, the Trauma Program at High Focus Centers provides a level of care that is higher than traditional outpatient services. The Trauma Program is meant to complement longer term individual or group therapy for trauma or PTSD, either as an initial treatment experience, or as an alternative to traditional outpatient therapy during a period of heightened symptoms.

Most experts in couples therapy are trained in several modes of treatment. This allows your therapist to draw from various techniques to personalize your therapy for your needs. This may include cognitive, emotional, and behavioral methods, which are all designed to help you strengthen your relationship.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Julia is an outstanding adolescent program coordinator. She is thorough, clinically intelligent, and brings a deep sense of compassion to her work. You can trust that anyone under her care will receive thoughtful, professional support and have a truly positive experience in the program.

This place should be called "No Focus", it is horrible. The office staff is either clueless or corrupt. They gave me completely wrong information, did nothing to help correct so then I got stuck with large bills for my screening that I'm still paying off. Some of the counselors are okay and they are vested in their patients well being but the office administration is a nightmare. All things considered, all this place did for me is stress me out and make me want to drink even more.

Do not send your child to this place. My daughter thought the staff actually cared about her then she got kicked out for horse playing. She has ADHD and was expect to sit for hours. This place is BORING and they only care about making money, not actually helping and teaching children new coping skills or strategies to overcome with what they are struggling with. The staff is COLD, rude and they act like they are high class and better than others.

I was forced to go here after a hospital stay back in 2023 when I was 18. Since I was 18, they placed me in the adult group in which most patients seemed to be in significantly later ages (40s-60s). Which is fine. It was just very hard to relate because we were going through completely different stages in life. That defeats the purpose of group therapy which is to make you feel like you're not alone. Won't go into too much detail but do your kids a favor and find a different treatment center with different approaches. The sessions are extremely generic and just give you "coping skills" such as DBT which is not realistic to anyone that's in crisis. I did the online program, was started in IOP, then told after 3 weeks that they needed to move me to PHP (more sessions, longer days, supposed to be more intense), after reading other reviews, now I'm wondering if they just wanted to charge my insurance more. They don't try to talk about specifically what makes you struggle as an individual. Even when you're having 1 on 1 sessions (which are not often), it didn't seem like they actually cared for you to feel better, just another name they had to cross off their session checklist. Anyone who's suffering enough mentally to be made to attend a treatment center needs specialized care and clinicians who have a true regard for mental health and helping patients find their way. No one who struggles with mental health wants to continute to struggle for the rest of their lives, but this place is not doing anything for you. The months I spent in this program made for one of the worst summers of my life. 2 years later, and I still struggle heavily. Waste of time seriously.

As soon as you come they tell you it won’t be your last time because you will fail. Then accuse you of still using cause their blood tests are wrong. I was telling another counselor how aroma therapy helped me with my addiction. My counselor over heard and said “if it’s not about recovery we can’t talk about it”. Plus I was introduced to heroin from the people I met here. Terrible program.

Better late than never! I was a patient here 13 years ago, and still clean to this day. I am currently attending school to become an addiction counselor, and I couldn’t help but think about my out patient counselor from so many years ago :) This process was by far not easy, but I just had to come here and give high praise to my counselor Jim. I don’t know if he is still there but he was amazing and saved my life. He was kind and patient and relatable… the three things we all really need when getting ourselves and our lives back together during a difficult time. Thank you Jim, words can never express how grateful I am for you.

its tough to write a poor review for a program that looks to help both young and old who struggle from mental illness as well as substance abuse but this place absolutely deserves it. I was floored when I went for my initial consult as a senior looking for an out patient program for someone with a dual diagnosis. This is not a place for adult professionals. Young kids hanging around the entrance way, the staff that greets you is totally inappropriate and unprofessional as well as the management staff. Please make sure you sign a waiver for them to not hit your insurance unless you enter a specific program. They are all about the money and hitting your insurance. They actually made me take a breathalyzer not only once after blowing a low number but again before I left otherwise they were going to call the Paramus police. If was a ploy to keep so they can send me there bull crap sales pitch. I went there looking for a group I could trust and was understanding to my situation and they treated me like I was at Bergen County Prison. STAY AWAY IF YOU ARE A PROFESSIONAL AND HAVE INSURANCE. THIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE.
