This place doesn't even deserve one star but I have to in order to be able to post this complaint regarding the University of Washington Medical Center Emergency Department and their failure to provide emergency medical care to my son Saturday September 27th, 2025. That night, my son was robbed and assaulted with a gun. He was taken by friends to the UWMC emergency department while bleeding from the nose and mouth and suffering from facial trauma. He was also intoxicated, disoriented, and unable to make informed decisions. Despite arriving with visible injuries and active bleeding, he was left waiting for over 30 minutes without triage or stabilization while the nurses chatted and one even slept. He was reportedly told he could not be treated due to lack of insurance. After receiving no care, he eventually walked out still injured and bleeding. The following day, when I realized what happened I (his mother) took him to another hospital where he was diagnosed with a fractured nose, dental injuries, and a tooth embedded in his lip. UWMC staff also failed to contact me, his parent and emergency contact. I would have provided insurance and consent immediately had I been notified. This situation constitutes a serious violation of EMTALA, which requires hospitals to: • Provide a medical screening exam to determine if an emergency condition exists, • Stabilize the patient regardless of insurance or payment ability, • And not delay treatment to inquire about insurance.

Last year my husband had a stroke that affected 2 areas of his brain. The ER staff here at this NW Hospital were very quick to diagnose his condition and got the Specialists he needed into his room to see him and get the treatment he needed. Because of their quick response and treatment, along with all of the wonderful care that the nurses, doctors, PT and OT staff gave my husband during his 5 days there in the hospital, he was able to Return Home with me. After more months of PT and OT, he has recovered very nicely. If he hadn't gotten the quick treatment he needed, things would've been very different and I shutter to think about what might've been. The hospital staff were wonderful with how they treated my husband and I, with caring, compassion and respect. They allowed me to stay with my husband in his room the entire 5 days, bringing in a bed for me to use. I couldn't leave his side and they understood that. Thank you, to all of you at NW Hospital! Especially the ER staff, the 5th floor nursing staff, the drs, PT & OT all who cared for my husband during his stay there from 04/17/2024 - 04/22/2024.

I hope I’m reviewing the right hospital, my loved one has stage four sarcoma, and the way they treat my loved one and us family is top tier. I’m struggling to give a five star only because her sarcoma has grown and we were told it was shrinking. I can’t take the review lower tho, because this disease is aggressive and unpredictable, and I don’t want my emotions to take from the care she is getting. The nurses and doctors are informative, caring, compassionate. They educate clinically while simplifying the language to where we understand. I’m grateful for this place, the care they are giving my loved one is as good as one can get. Sad Dr. Loggers is no longer her attending physician, but grateful for the care she’s provided at every chemo stay, at every inch of this horrible journey, the staff has tried their hardest to accommodate. The doctor called me at 7:30pm while spending time with his family, and was emotionally supportive, educationally supportive and was so kind. That was Dr Joseph, and Dr. Sears called me every day for an update at the end of her day. The nurses are so nice and on top of any urgent needs and address things right away. I cannot even begin to express the gratitude I have for how attentive everyone has been during such a hard time in our lives and while dealing with the severe impact this has had on our family. Thanks UWMC sarcoma specialists and nurses.

Accepted Insurance

Please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Northwest Hospital – Behavioral Health works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
