About Windmoor Healthcare

This center is a behavioral health clinic that offers crisis care, electroconvulsive therapy and treatment for military personnel and veterans, amongst many other treatment modalities. They treat a variety of conditions, such as depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD and substance use disorder. Patients receiving care can stay on-site or work in a number of programs like partial hospitalization or outpatient treatment.

Depending on patients’ needs, they may have to begin treatment with medically supervised detox. The staff will make sure that patients are safe and comfortable while any toxic substances make their way out of their bodies. Once that’s done, patients can begin therapeutic treatment.

This center offers several pathways for therapy and recovery including individual and group therapy, motivational interviewing, art therapy and pet therapy. They even have support groups that regularly visit the site and offer their services.

As this center’s dual diagnosis clinic, patients will have a recovery process that centers around their mental health. Certain issues like depression and anxiety often worsen and act as catalysts to addictive behaviors and those can be treated alongside substance use disorder.

The community seems to love this center as former patients say extremely kind things about the staff, facility and treatment. Patients in the military especially seem to benefit from care at this center. Overall it seems that this is an excellent choice for those in need of addiction treatment or mental health care.

Horrible experience for the most part, some staff were very attentive and interacted very well and that was noted and highlighted in the survey. But in the case of medical emergencies they are horrible they will watch you on the floor struggling to breathe refusing to give you your rescue inhaler or other meds because they assume you are having a mental breakdown no matter how much you beg. They watched and make comments that you wont calm down and just freaking out. I would not recommend overall they will watch you suffer on the floor and do nothing.

They charged me 6000 dollars for the privilege of kidnapping me. I want to give a big shout out to all the nurses, mental health techs therapists and doctors during my stay here. You guys were all great! Mike, Sydney, Paulina and Kei are all great MHTs and Christine is a great activities therapist. You guys did great groups and I think Sydney was a little hard on herself (she said she needs to get better at doing groups), the groups shouldn't be intensive because people freak out when you delve too much into their issues. I also want to give thanks to all the Polish nurses and nurse Melanie and Robert. Yall doing great work there.

I can’t recommend Windmoor enough for those who need it. Whether you need crisis stabilization, struggling with substance use or mental health, are active duty or a veteran struggling with PTSD, or looking for inpatient and outpatient programs they are a great facility. I have the honor of knowing a lot of their case managers and the care and support they give their patients is unmatched. They all truly value each individual and just want them to strive. I have recommended many people to Windmoor and have watched them take back their lives during their road to recovery because of them.

Accepted Insurance

Windmoor Healthcare works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) involve frequent and robust therapeutic sessions for clients requiring high-level care. Clients may engage in a combination of medication assisted treatment (MAT), addiction counseling, recovery skills training, and holistic therapies for a minimum of nine and a maximum of 20 hours per week. Intensive outpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery, those exiting detox or inpatient care, and those at an elevated relapse risk.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Rehab aftercare programs are a collection of highly individualized services designed to promote long-term recovery. These services evolve as your needs change. Case managers and recovery teams typically begin formulating the rehab aftercare service plan early in the recovery process to facilitate your reintegration back into the home, workplace, and community.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs support recovery through emotional, psychological, and spiritual development to address the root causes of addiction. These programs are peer directed, with participants regularly attending 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and accessible day and night, year-round. Recovery is based on "working the steps" to understand the source of addiction, take accountability for one's life choices, and relinquish control for that which cannot be changed. Age-specific, gender-separate, and other specialized programs are widely available.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

If a person with a substance use disorder continually denies their problem or refuses to get treatment, a drug intervention in Florida may be necessary. Intervention services can help mediate the intervention by providing an addiction expert. This professional can de-escalate situations and facilitate a healthier discussion between the individual and their loved ones. Specialists can also help families handle issues they don't know how to navigate on their own.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Often referred to as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers an intensive treatment option that allows individuals to return home at night. PHP treatment typically requires a minimum of 20 hours a week for an average of 90 days. Participants attend daily therapeutic sessions, receive medication management, and have access to skilled medical professionals. While costs can vary, most insurance will fully or partially cover a partial hospitalization program.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

24-hour clinical care in Florida is an essential part of treatment, particularly with medical detox. Withdrawal symptoms can be severe, and supervised detox provides around the clock access to medical professionals who can adminsiter proper medications and treatment to address these symptoms and step in should an emergency occur. This intensive clinical care will help curb the withdrawal effects, minimize substance dependence, and prepare you for the next step of treatment.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
military-program thumbnail image

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

I had been reaching out for help regarding post combat stress for over a decade. After giving up hope and being admitted to NHCL, I was referred to Windmoor Healthcare. The active military/ veteran units at Windmoor are amazing. Caleb was on the ball with logistics and support, the nurses were attentive and really cared about us, and the program as a whole was extremely therapeutic. It’s intensive therapy. Long days, but worth it. Veterans helping veterans. You will get out of it what you put into it. Update- after returning home, I can honestly say that I feel more myself every week after my release. After 12 years misdiagnosed and under treated, Windmoor got me back on my footing and saved my life.

Response from the owner
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad Caleb and the nursing team were supportive and caring. Your kind words will be shared!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Place Where Healing Truly Begins I came to Windmoor’s 28-day military program feeling broken—depressed, anxious, and unsure if I wanted to keep going. From day one, the staff made me feel safe, heard, and valued. Caroline helped me face my pain with compassion, and Kristina’s steady care reminded me I was still worth showing up for. My fellow veterans and I came from different battles, but together we found strength and hope. I’m leaving with renewed faith, a fresh start, and the determination to be a light for others. If you feel lost or hopeless, this is where healing can truly begin.

Response from the owner

Windmoor Saved my life - I was admitted to Windmoor unit 24 (military unit) after I made an attempt to take my own life. I have over 18 years of service and complex trauma and MH issues including PTSD. All of the staff was amazing. My therapist Dan went above and beyond some times seeing me twice a day to ensure I received the care I needed. The group sessions really helped me in my healing journey. The nursing staff especially Kaley, Christine, Cierra, Christina, Andrea, and everyone working on the unit made sure I had everything I needed and got to know me so they could tell when I was struggling and provided care proactively before I was too elevated. Even the techs were amazing Tasha, Percy, Steve and the rest of the team not only took care of me they made sure I was comfortable and talked me through multiple crises. Doctor Harvey listened to everything I said and worked very hard to get my medications just right to help me stay balanced without losing my personality. Not only do I recommend anyone who needs MH and/or Substance help serving in the military go here by name I would not even waste my time looking at other facilities.

I love Windmoor.. Hoping to repay everything they have done for me... However some of the changes from Corporate really make it hard on the staff. I feel you need to make some changes. Windmoor has been helping me for a long time. I love all of them. Especially Alex, and Chris, Kathy, Ruth, Kylie, Natalie, Carmelita, Benji, Kathy, Zee and all of them. They are all great. However, these are people with mental illnesses. And trying to force them to be in one room with nowhere to get away if they need to isn't right. I myself suffer from Social anxiety disorder and need to be in my room. Lock the doors for groups. But open them when there isn't any. They are more likely to come if you don't force them. I cannot give the guys who deliver the snacks a good review though. They give 12 and 14 all Cheerios and Cinnamon toast crunch. Hardly ever froot loops, corn pops, apple jacks etc. And I asked one of them and he told me it was none of my business. Rudely too. But anyway, I hope in 6 months, I can come work as a Tech. I would love to help people like me.

Honest review as a psychiatric patient. The good, bad and the ugly. I hope future patients read this. I was admitted here through a baker act of a medical hospital. The good, the mental health techs mainly run the unit, they do groups, engage with patients and are helpful. The bad, you barely spend time with a therapist or a psychiatrist and when you do get time it is a rushed 5 minute meeting leaving you with unanswered questions and concerns about what is going on. There was a fight everyday I was there, the same individual was involved in two fights, two different days. I never felt completely safe, considering most of the nurses or techs are small women, and it was grown men fighting. The ugly, the doctors have a flavor of choice with medication, everyone on the unit from what I figured out was all on the same meds, trazodone and hydroxyzine. Two meds that a pharmacist and my actual psychiatrist told me should not be mixed due to increasing heart side effects. After I was medically cleared and my baker act was removed, the nurses convinced me that in order for me to go home I had to sign in as a voluntary patient and then file a right to be discharged paperwork. Which is completely not true, but being scared of having any kind of negative reaction I signed and had to stay an extra day. I felt like I had no choice and I signed papers under distress. I feel like that is a dirty tactic, it preys on people who already aren't in the best state of mind, also is unlawful. In the end, if you are in crisis seek help here or anywhere whatever you are going through is not worth your life. Going here will prevent you doing something to yourself or someone else. But you could get more trauma from your experience here. Stay informed of your rights and make sure you set up someone you know and can trust to be your advocate. But otherwise, seek actual care from a doctor who will spend time with you and assess your personal needs.

My very courageous 87 yr old Mom went to Windmoor to quit drinking which hit her hard after the death of her husband of 64 years. She was sent to Northside Hospital during her withdrawal due to other medical isssues. After discharge from Northside Hospital, Mom went back to Windmoor. She was then sent home WITHOUT discharge papers, NO AFTERCARE and they even kept her medication container she went in there with for her home use!!! Mom is a sweet lady who would not complain. I am still pissed. Total letdown- they should not get paid

Response from the owner
