About Dr. Robin B. Risler, PSYD

Sometimes life feels heavier than usual or maybe you just feel disconnected and your relationships don’t feel as fulfilling as they once did. Dr. Robin Risler, a licensed psychologist, psychoanalyst and addictions counselor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania offers a safe place to slow down, look inward and work on healing.

Rediscovering Meaning Through Therapy

Through her private practice in Center City Philly, just steps from Rittenhouse Square, Dr. Risler offers both in-person and virtual sessions. Dr. Risley believes that therapy isn’t just about managing symptoms but it’s about rediscovering who you are.

She helps people explore their thoughts and emotions, both the ones they recognize and the ones buried beneath the surface. Her sessions are a space where you can explore what’s on your mind and what’s hidden beneath the surface. By unpacking thoughts and patterns, she helps people reconnect with their sense of possibility and purpose.

Wide Range of Service for People Struggling with Addiction

Overcoming addiction and dependency is often a lifelong battle to prevent or overcome relapse. Counseling helps you develop new skills and is an integral part of treatment. She works to pinpoint triggers and develop healthier coping skills. Her services provide help for people with addiction to gambling, drugs, alcohol, technology, work, and other behavioral addictions.

Healing Begins with Connection

Her approach blends relational psychoanalysis with other evidence-based therapies like CBT and psychodynamic therapy. At its core, it’s all about connection because healing often begins when you feel understood and accepted. Whether you’re working through anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, addiction or depression, she will walk beside you with empathy and honesty and help you find strength in your story.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient rehabs specialize in providing comprehensive care for clients who choose to remain in their homes and communities during treatment. Their services may include transitional support for clients stepping down from intensive inpatient programming. Ambulatory medical detox may be provided for clients at low risk for withdrawal complications. Many programs include evening, night, and weekend services to accommodate clients who are working professionals or caregivers. Addiction counseling and life skills training are common treatment modalities.

Treatments

If you have a mental health condition and an addiction, it is critical to address both conditions simultaneously. If you only address the mental health disorder, you'll likely continue to use drugs or alcohol, which can make your mental health issues even worse. On the other hand, if you only address the addiction, you won't have the tools to cope with your mental health disorder in a healthy way.

Clinical Services

Personalized therapy sessions in Pennsylvania typically include a safe and nonjudgmental setting in which you can express your deepest emotions and feelings and explore the factors that have contributed to addiction. Therapists tailor the sessions to help you develop healthier thought patterns and behaviors, which improve your self control and build a foundation for your long term sobriety.

Group therapy sessions in Pennsylvania offer you a safe space when you're struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. You can openly discuss your challenges and the progress you're making in rehabilitation. Sharing this responsibility with others in your group fosters a commitment to sobriety and helps create strong bonds with your peers.

Family therapy teaches individual family members in Pennsylvania the benefits of collectively combating addiction. Therapists help individual members establish healthy boundaries between themselves and their loved one who is struggling with addiction. This helps improve emotional support systems and creates a bond so families work together to sustain long term recovery.

Couples therapy in Pennsylvania is typically short term treatment that focuses on building skills that lead to positive long term relationship changes. Sessions with the therapist may occur both jointly and individually.

Robin is my favorite addiction psychologists in town. I have known her since we worked together as Coordinators of Tuttleman Counseling Center's Campus Alcohol and Substance Awareness at Temple University's Counseling Center. There we were responsible for all the addiction counseling for students at Temple. While she has expertise in addiction she is a general psychologist and treats patients with a variety of issues. She is warm, compassionate, sharp, practical and more dedicated to learning about psychotherapy and treatment than anyone I know.
