been going here for awhile and recently moved our PCM's elsewhere. pharmacy usually has a long wait but has gotten better and isnt too bad. the customer service is pretty weak and actually become worse over the years. it seems like the PCM's dont listen at all too you so we left, our health has been much better off for it You can request a Change of PCM through the tricare website and they give you options. There are a few in the area besides Dumfries. My first visit with my new PCM was 45 minutes. I have not spent that much time total with a Dumfries PCM in over a decade. They never talk to you, they talk at you. Listening skills weak across the board with most staff. Lab people were pretty rude up front but the draw people were nice. Pharmacy nice but obviously overworked.

Accepted Insurance

Dumfries Health Center works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Clients who are in early recovery, leaving detox, or experiencing a crisis often require the intensive treatment of an inpatient rehab facility. Clients in inpatient care receive robust clinical supervision, housing, and meals, allowing them to focus exclusively on their recovery while they stabilize. The primary treatment modalities used in most inpatient centers include extensive addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Many drug rehabs also offer holistic therapies, such as music, art, fitness, and experiential therapies.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Known as the first step of the addiction recovery process, medical detox is the removal of addictive drugs and alcohol from your body and helping manage physical withdrawal. Medically assisted detox takes place in an inpatient setting where you will be closely monitored by a team of medical professionals to ensure your maximum health and safety. Medications like Suboxone or Vivitrol may be administered if needed to alleviate any potential withdrawal symptoms. This process is typically at least partially covered by most insurance plans.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enroll in drug rehab in Virginia, a treatment plan is designed by professional staff in order to help you overcome drug addiction and modify addictive behaviors. This may include evidence-based treatments, group and individual therapy, and relapse prevention.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Today, I came into the Dumfries clinic for my appointment as usual. However, it also marked the one-year anniversary of my son’s passing, so I wasn’t feeling my best. As I was heading to the elevator after my appointment, the doors opened and I was greeted by a cheerful voice saying, “Going down, let’s ride!” followed by laughter. The lady in the elevator was an employee, and as I glanced at her badge, I believe it read Susie White (forgive me if I have the name wrong—she introduced herself as Susie). She started a conversation with me in the elevator asking how my day was and if my appointment went well. By the time we reached the first floor, I already felt a sense of peace and warmth from her kindness. Our conversation continued briefly as we walked outside. Before we parted ways in different directions, she turned to me and said: “YOU’RE AWESOME. YOUR BUN IS PERFECT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE. AND I HOPE HAPPINESS CONTINUES TO FIND YOU.” Those words touched me more deeply than she may ever know. On a day that was already heavy with grief, her kindness brought comfort and light. If Susie ever sees this message, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I truly needed that moment, and I hope to meet more people as caring and genuine as you. With gratitude, SGT Walker

I would give zero stars to A.T. Augusta Ambulatory Care Center if that were possible. The level of unprofessionalism from the administrative staff is astounding, and unfortunately, it overshadows the medical care. Every single interaction feels like pulling teeth—whether it’s checking in, scheduling an appointment, or even trying to get a simple question answered. The staff at the front desk and behind the phones seem irritated by the mere fact that patients exist, and it shows in the way they speak to people. What makes matters worse is the consistency of the poor service. It isn’t just one bad experience here or there—it’s every single time. They are difficult to deal with in every way imaginable: unhelpful, dismissive, and at times flat-out rude. Rather than making the process easier for patients who are already dealing with health concerns, the administrative staff seems to go out of their way to complicate things. A medical facility should be a place where people feel cared for and respected, but this center feels like the exact opposite. The doctors and nurses may be fine, but it doesn’t matter when the first and last impressions are so overwhelmingly negative. Until the administration is completely overhauled and professionalism becomes a priority, I cannot recommend this facility.

I kid you not, every single time I go to this place something goes wrong. I have literally never had a good experience here and always come out angry or crying. From the moment you make an appointment, the staff is already not communicative. It’s like the soul has been sucked out of them when you speak to them, which usually I don’t care about how cheerful appointment call line workers are but it’s every time you call. One time I went in to get a physical for my school done and they butchered the paper. Used white out on a OFFICIAL document not once not twice but 6 times on the same paper because the NP kept messing up. The NP also argued with me about my immunization records. The ones that I got done THERE. I had multiple copies of my records on hand that I had printed out and I pointed out immunizations that I already had done that she wanted me to get AGAIN, even though I already had all of my shots done. When I went to get the shots that she put in for me even the LPN was like “you already have all of these”. To top off that visit when I left and saw my physical paper she put the wrong patient information on it and literally had illegible writing all over it AND USED A STAMP TO SIGN HER NAME INSTEAD OF PRINTING IT WITH PEN. I literally wasted so much time arguing with her and still had to come back another day. I also saw the same lady another day because I was looking into getting medicated for my ADHD. To clarify, I talked to my psychologist before going into the appointment and she stated they prescribe medication at this clinic. So I brought my documentation of my diagnosis excepting to have a nice talk to figure out the right option for medication. Instead I had to literally argue with this lady AGAIN. Because she said they didn’t do that here and that she’d never done that before. She finally agreed to go ask her colleagues about it and when she came back she didn’t ask me anything about my symptoms or what I struggle with. She didn’t even tell me what medication she prescribed. She also told me that “I’m giving you the lowest dose because you only need it when you are at school”. WHAT. Am I not supposed to be able to function outside of a school setting?? If she asked she would have known that I work full time. Oh and it was also great when the MA told me “you can’t have ADHD you are too pretty” like thanks I guess?? She ended up giving me Adderall which gave me palpitations. It’s just the fact that I am constantly having to advocate for myself in this clinic. CONSTANTLY. The NP’s name is Kim I believe by the way. Other than that, I did have a good time with the NPs up at OB/GYN. But one time I went to go schedule a 1 year follow up for a iud I got put in and the lady argued with me that I can’t get a appointment for that unless I have a referral. And maybe I could be wrong in this situation but why would that make any sense for me to go to my primary to get a referral and then have to basically do two separate appointments. Just be aware when you are here. And my heart goes out to healthcare workers. You really do a lot of work and burnout is real. But that doesn’t justify not listening or advocating for your patient. It makes people not want to come do check ups on their health.

By far the worst clinic. Was trying to get appointments for OGBYN, they were booked. I tried for three weeks to get an outside referral but was no help at all. Couldn't even get that right, I decided to just go directly through Tricare cause this clinic WILL NOT HELP.

Every person I interacted with here except my doctor was horrible. The lady at the reception in the lab should be fired. She was so bad I actually just left rather than deal with her.
