When I first got there, I had the attitude of “This is useless and I just want this to be over with and go on with my life. This hippie crap isn’t for me. The councilors don’t know me and don’t care so Good Lord, just let this be done.” Boy was I wrong. They worked with me and were patient with me and met me way more than half way in terms of my physiological and psychological care. As I kept attending, and that’s just what I was doing, I started to notice that they really did care about my success and my psychological growth as well as my physiological wellbeing. Then I noticed that I started to open up more…. And it felt good. I grew to see that the councilors and even the other participants really did care about what happened to me and how the status of my wellbeing in and out of the program was progressing. Slowly my family begin to notice that I was changing for the better. That my relationship with my family was improving. I was more attentive to my children and my wife,,,, My parents and siblings started to tell that I was different. Better different. I established bonds and friendships that have allowed me to open up and access my… “Betterself” if that makes sense. I’m happier with what I’ve achieved and to do away with the…. “Stinkin’ Thinkin’” if you will. Riley was my councilor and really cared about my walk and if I needed anything at all he was there for me. Jessica is the most caring person and this is her calling and not just a job. Megan…. What can I say? She is brutally honest but in a Don Rickles sort of way. She can say what she wants but it comes across as she means it. Loving and that she genuinely cares about her flock. Julie is amazingly intelligent and loving when God said blessed are the meek, he was talking directly to her. She so gentle and kind. Hannah and Jennifer keep the front part of the place running like a machine. Jill? She does the difficult task of keeping the back part and front part running like a top. All together they make an amazing team. Dr. Carpenter and Shauna and Amber do an excellent job at staying on top of the medicine side of things. They are all easily accessible and are willing to work with the patients and their medication needs. All of the team are constantly going through continuing education so they can better serve their patient’s needs. The support I received from the staff was so beneficial and they made sure that I had the psychological and physiological tools that I needed for success both during and post treatment. If you need addiction or psychological therapy or both (because they almost always go hand-in-hand) this is the place for you. They truly care and they have a calling and God-given gift for what they do.

Going to longleaf has been the best decision of my adult life. The staff is committed to your individualized care plan and they truly care about your successful recovery. From my initial intake to my experience in their aftercare program, the longleaf staff did everything in their power to encourage my healthy recovery. The medical staff accomplished more than my primary care physician and psychiatrist have in years past. They are thoughtful and knowledgeable about the specifics of addiction recovery. My individual counselors create a safe space for learning and connection. I can’t say enough kind things about this center. Our area has needed a place like this for many years and I’m glad long leaf found a necessary home in Baldwin county.
