About Meritus Medical Center

The inpatient program is designed for clients with severe symptoms who may be at risk of relapse, hurting themselves, or hurting someone else. During this program, clients reside at the secure facility for the duration of their stay so medical staff can ensure their safety and provide assistance as needed. The inpatient program is rooted in therapy, which includes individual, group, and family therapy, as well as education, case management, and peer support services.

The outpatient program is a lower level of care best for those who have completed a higher level of care (such as the inpatient program) or who have mild symptoms. It uses the same programs and treatments as the inpatient program but allows clients to live at home and visit the facility on a fixed schedule to receive treatment rather than life on site.

There is a reason the locals call this place “Murder Us Medical Center.” My partner was experiencing very concerning neurological, cardiac, and gastrointestinal symptoms. We saw a PA for less than 5 minutes, waited and were treated for 6 hours in and out of the waiting room, until he was so exhausted we asked if it was okay to go home and be called with the results. We received no AMA or discharge paperwork. We were never called with any results. The next day upon receiving notifications of test results in his MyChart account, the tests showed a possible heart attack and a serious neurological issue, which I only know because I also work in the medical field. We received no continuation of care. When we called to speak to the ER department, they told us not to worry, that most people were asymptomatic. We would have never gone to the ER in the first place if he wasn’t experiencing symptoms. We then had to take it upon ourselves to schedule with cardiologists and neurologists. This is a clear case of medical negligence. Meritus DOES NOT CARE ABOUT PATIENTS. Meritus is federally registered a 501(c)(3) NONPROFIT organization, which means they do not have to pay taxes. We received two bills totaling over $3k, one for the hospital and one for the privately contracted Physicians Assistant that 1. Didn’t do her job and 2. Never disclosed information when we asked about prices. DO NOT USE ANY MERITUS MEDICAL FACILITIES!!! Meritus is a fraudulent medical company and should be avoided at all costs. There will be legal and financial repercussions for these illegal practices.

I went to this ER aprox. 6 months ago. I requested to be informed of my bill by the billing lady after my tests were taken. She stated I can't tell you that information this is ILEGAL. No surprise act applies to you as well. You guys operate as a 501(c)(3) what kind of charity are you doing by double billing people frudurlantly. This is nothing but tax evasion at its finest. You as well AMA me after telling me to leave and never told me my results. AMA is leaving against medical advice. When one tells you to leave that's not against advice. The state, the fed, and myself will be investigating this on multiple levels. Everyone beware this place it is fraudulent. I later received 2 bills one from the hospital and one from a surprise private contractor. Please everyone research your rights. Know where to report these kind of people and do it for your future and your children's.

I wouldn't give them a one star review , nurses either ignore you or straight lie to your face , I spent 7 hours in the ER . got labs and an x-ray / said everything was normal but then decide I needed a CT in which I sat there for 4 more hours and still no test. when I asked the nurse to get my DR. that I wanted to speak to them first.... the nurse lied right to my face , she never went to get my DR. and she ignored me when I said I was still in pain , said they were waiting for the DR. to change my meds.. more lies

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Inpatient rehab enables clients to focus exclusively on their recovery while living in a highly structured and supportive environment. Inpatient treatment is typically designed for clients who have just completed detox, are in early recovery, and/or are at an elevated risk of relapse. Their treatment generally involves intensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family counseling. Many inpatient rehabs also offer recovery-focused life skills training and/or holistic therapies, such as yoga, massage, and meditation.

For intensive-level rehab treatment, 24-hour clinical care in Maryland is an essential tool. Medical staff are available around the clock to supervise the process, which involves cleansing the body of toxins. Close supervision is necessary due to the potential risks of withdrawal symptoms. Medical experts on-site are available to prescribe medications and other forms of treatment to address these symptoms and ensure a safe detox process.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Im sorry for anyone who's had a negative experience at this hospital. I usually don't leave reviews, but in April I was at Meritus a lot. Generalized anxiety and panic will do it I guess. They didn't dismiss my symptoms, or treat me differently. The doctors and nurses knew me, but never treated me differently. Chest pain, shortness of breath, made sure to get an EKG, blood work. Sure there's always a bit of a wait for results, but I never feel dismissed when i go there. A couple of social workers in the ER even sat with me, they didn't lecture me, or deny my symptoms they just wanted to see me get the help I need. I'm very thankful for the nurses and doctors, and the social workers.

My wife came in for a head injury and the doctors ignored everything that was said and treated her for migraines. Didn’t even do a check for concussion.
