About Mission Prep Teen Treatment

Mission Prep Teen Treatment is located in Waterford, Virginia. They provide residential treatment with programming specifically designed to meet the unique needs of teens who are struggling with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

The facility accepts a wide range of health insurance plans. Private pay options may also be available, and potential clients are encouraged to contact the admissions team directly for detailed information about insurance verification and financial questions.

Holistic Dual Diagnosis Care for Teen Boys in Waterford

Mission Prep Teen specializes in dual diagnosis treatment for teenage boys from ages 13 to 17. That specialization allows them to tailor treatment for your son and to understand specifically what these boys need for recovery.

Their multidisciplinary team of therapists, nurses, psychiatrists and support staff utilizes evidence based practices such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy, with a particular focus on personalized treatment planning.

Education and Therapy for Loved Ones

I appreciate the strong emphasis this program places on family involvement in the healing and recovery process through family education and therapy sessions. Thorough aftercare and dedicated discharge support services are also provided to help ensure long term sobriety.

Safe and Peaceful Rural Location

The facility’s safe and peaceful location in historic Waterford stands out to me. Loudon County is well known for its bucolic rural landscape, providing a quiet and scenic environment that may be beneficial to healing.

Sugarloaf Mountain is a short distance away for potentially therapeutic outdoor recreation. The Waterford Historic District is nearby as well, offering educational and cultural enrichment opportunities for teens during breaks in treatment.

Beautiful location and such a great mission. It’s not just in its name but also by design and implementation by their staff and programming.

Woooh. It was a great and horrible time I spent there. Mission Prep is one of those places that has some really amazing people — especially the CCs. They genuinely care about the kids and try their best to make everyone feel safe and supported. But they’re so overworked it’s honestly heartbreaking. You can see it wearing them down day by day, and that exhaustion ends up affecting the kids too. When the people who care the most are being pushed past their limits, everyone feels it. Then there’s the other side — staff who gaslight the kids and act like their feelings aren’t real. It’s confusing, and it hurts. Some days you feel seen and understood, and other days you feel like you’re going crazy just trying to be heard. Mission Prep could be an amazing place if they treated their staff better and held everyone to the same level of care the CCs give. But right now, it’s a mix of kindness and chaos. Sorry, Jordan, that you had to go through this. -Laura C.

There is a stigma with RTF's, and it is a very difficult decision for parents to make. I am so grateful to have found Mission Prep for my daughter. Mission Prep is the exception to the "stigma." Other RTF's take notes.... William (admissions) was super informative and explained everything in detail to me from the smallest detail to the largest detail. His communication was nothing short of phenomenal. There was a delay because of insurance, but he picked up right where we left off and made the process flawless. He is honest. Thank you to the UA team for fighting for my daughter's right to have quality treatment. That team never stopped fighting along side myself, the school, other professionals and doctors - they were successful. The facility is nothing that I had ever seen before. It is not a stereotypical RTF where it keeps children in an environment that looks like a prison. The tour was out of this world. The staff was super friendly. It was so serene, I remember saying "is there a place like this I can go to." The food is not just edible, it is phenomenal, as they have a chef on site. It was clean, open, and calming. After I said my goodbye, I sat in my car with my sister and cried. I didn't cry because of the situation or what had transpired previously, I cried because I felt like this was going to be the facility that would save my daughters life. My daughter went in on cloud nine (she was inpatient for 8 weeks prior). She did have a downward turn of events, so much so that I was concerned she might get kicked out of the program. The doctor put in for genetic testing, which was life saving. We found out the medication that my daughter was put on prior to inpatient was a danger zone medication that exasperated all of the black box warnings that the medication had. The doctor successfully and safely tapered her off of the medication. She now wants to live! Thank you to the staff for braving the storm while she was tapering off such a powerful medication. Never giving up on her. Challenging her and getting to the root of all of the problems. Because the staff never gave up and was there constantly 24/7 giving her care, she didn't give up and wants to live. The program at Mission Prep is astounding. I heard a lot of lip service from other residentials and it turned out they didn't deliver on the scheduling, outings, and program. They have a very structured routine. School work (they even help advocate with the school for your child), groups, individual sessions, family sessions, constant updates, daily phone calls with your child, family visits are strongly encouraged. My daughter has done equine weekly, an alpaca farm weekly, baby goat therapy, gardening, outings, I could go on and on. The outings are fun and of substance! The outings help the kids feel like kids. The kids can have serious issues hence why they need 24/7 supervision by professionals but with a program like this it doesn't institutionalize them. It gives them hope, and prepares them for life outside of RTF. The way they set up family sessions and visits helps with the transition too. Financial planning, cooking classes, you name it they do it. They even set up IOP after discharge! The therapists are trained in EMDR, CBT, DBT and everywhere in between. They are really top notch. I adore the clinical director, Michelle. She is compassionate, but takes no crap. There are rules that must be followed. Her approach is necessary. She contacted me for Mother's Day to wish me a Happy Mother's Day, and I replied "Happy Mother's Day, thank you for being there for my daughter and being a mother figure in her life during treatment." Michelle is the mom of the facility and her role is essential. Michelle is irreplaceable. Mission Prep did in fact save my daughters life. I am forever grateful to have found them in the darkest of times. Mental health is a life-long ride, and I know there will be some instances where my daughter starts to steer off. Mission Prep has given my daughter and the family the tools to help with that.

Accepted Insurance

Please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Mission Prep Teen Treatment works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Clients who are in early recovery, leaving detox, or experiencing a crisis often require the intensive treatment of an inpatient rehab facility. Clients in inpatient care receive robust clinical supervision, housing, and meals, allowing them to focus exclusively on their recovery while they stabilize. The primary treatment modalities used in most inpatient centers include extensive addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Many drug rehabs also offer holistic therapies, such as music, art, fitness, and experiential therapies.

Clients in an intensive outpatient rehab (IOP) benefit from robust support but often do not require the high-level supervision and round-the-clock clinical care provided in an inpatient setting. Clients engage in multiple therapeutic sessions weekly, with most programs requiring between nine and 20 treatment hours per week. Intensive outpatient rehabs provide a wide array of evidence-based services, including addiction counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, holistic therapies, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Outpatient rehabs offer community-based addiction treatment, enabling clients to remain in their homes while in recovery. Their levels of care typically include partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), standard outpatient, and sober living programming. Most outpatient facilities offer addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Integrative programs include evidence-based holistic therapies, such as meditation, music therapy, and massage. Facilities specializing in alcohol and/or opioid addiction may also provide medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Treatments

Dual diagnosis treatment is a specialized form of rehab where you receive care for both a substance use disorder and a mental health disorder at the same time. You're provided access to medical staff and mental health experts throughout the program. Additionally, mental health services tend to include multiple forms of therapy, including individual therapy, group counseling, relapse prevention education, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

In Virginia, dual-diagnosis addiction treatment programs focus on providing integrated care for individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Specialized programs offer medically monitored detox, outpatient, inpatient, and partial hospitalization. Therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-informed therapy, and family therapy help to address both disorders simultaneously while promoting mental health and well-being.

Programs

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Virginia is a short term form of talk therapy. Participants usually have homework between sessions, which may include journaling, self talk, and setting SMART goals. The aim is to transform negative thought patterns into positive ones.

For those experiencing mental health challenges, including substance use disorder, dialectical behavior therapy in Virginia offers an evidence based method of treatment. This therapy teaches skills for emotional regulation and interpersonal relations so you can break free from negative patterns.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

Family therapists work with all members of the family to understand the roles they play in the addiction dynamic. Addressing these patterns is crucial to developing healthier ways to interact and support each other, as well as contributing to a more effective recovery for their loved ones.

When men and women in Virginia participate in group therapy sessions, they learn to freely express their emotions in a non judgmental setting. This helps you process your feelings and begin to understand the link between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are associated with addictive behavior.

Men and women in Virginia use individual therapy to focus on addiction related challenges as a necessary part of their drug and alcohol addiction treatment. Your therapist guides you in developing coping strategies, setting realistic goals, and building a strong foundation for an improved quality of life.

transcranial iconTranscranial Magnetic Stimulation

Trauma therapy helps you understand and manage the emotional and physical responses that often follow witnessing or experiencing traumatic events. Using therapeutic interventions, your therapist works with you to reframe that experience, which in turn reduces your anxiety and helps you regain control over your life.
