About Shorehaven Behavioral Health

Just 15 minutes north of downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin is the Shore Haven Behavioral Health Clinic. This is one of three clinics operating under this organization and this location primarily serves residents throughout the northern suburbs of the state. You’ll find comprehensive counseling services here for adults, teens, and families.

Their programs cover everything from mental health counseling needs to chemical dependency struggles. They also have programs that help you work through traumatic experiences, as well as counseling to address gender dysphoria and related issues that often impact members of the LGBTQ community.

Counseling Rooted in Evidence Based Therapies

All of their services help you work through the challenges you’re facing by employing evidence based therapies. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy are some of the treatments that may be used. The aim of their approaches is to get to the root cause of the behavioral health struggles you’re facing.

As you work through counseling, you’ll develop recovery skills that are specific to the disorder impacting your life. They also offer developmentally appropriate approaches through their specialized child and adolescent therapy programs.

Experience Handling Complex Behavioral Health Disorders

Often, struggles with substance abuse mask more intensive or complex underlying behavioral health struggles. At this facility, you’ll work with highly trained professionals who have experience dealing with behavioral health challenges such as post traumatic stress disorder and bipolar disorder.

Accessible Care Near Downtown

Being just outside of downtown Milwaukee means you’re close to a number of community services and social support programs that can make it easier for you to lead a healthier life. You can connect with local 12 step chapters, stroll by the shores of Lake Michigan to your east, and explore the different natural parks and hiking trails here. It’s easy to get around town and to the office for care thanks to the public transportation services that run through this region.

There are many aspects of Shorehaven that are commendable. First and foremost is the focus on increasing access for those with Medicaid insurance. While many other clinics only work with commercial or private payment, Shorehaven prides itself on being a resource for those that are less fortunate financially. Shorehaven is also a resource for rapid access to treatment with most being able to get an appointment within days. It can be very difficult to find mental health providers that work with children but Shorehaven can provide rapid access to outpatient therapy for all ages. In my nearly 2 decades of experience in the mental health field Shorehaven has always stood out as a company that cares more about helping people and bettering the community than making money and that is the most commendable of all.

Thank you. We do work to change lives through effective services and truly believe all persons deserve the same high quality of help, children and adults, Medicaid recipients as well as others. And we do work to have rapid access to first appointments.

Accepted Insurance

Shorehaven Behavioral Health works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Just as an update, the owner asked me to send him an email and let’s just say my email went out on Dec 6th and I still haven’t heard back. Not to mention when I called services until further notice my daughters fill in therapist Sarah, not one time called to check in with my daughter and her overall health in over 3 weeks but called to make sure the company can bill the insurance today. I discontinued services about a month ago. SMH!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We cannot go into HIPAA-protected information here, but we hope the resolution of your concern has been satisfactory. We spoke with MR Friday to make sure the plan is working out well.

This is not to down the office. The young lasy who is the receptionist has always been amazing. When I'd come in there she has always been respectful. The therapist for my daughter has been amazing even though she is on leave 😞. My own therapist has been amazing so this is not to thr staff because they have worked hard for people. This is to the lack of regard, respect, and empathy those who have higher titles wear. Some things recently changed in my life causing me to have a old bill. I knew the bill was due and had intentions on paying I just requested a little time. So I was transferred to someone in the billing department. The first person I spoke to was Michelle. She was very unpleasant with rude like tone, but I digressed and asked to speak to the manager which is Kathy Schwengel. Well apparently the manager works from home. So she emails me. I tell her no I asked for a phone call. She finally calls. Me thinking that she is the overseer I thought it would be of wise counsel to address my concern that I had with Michelle the previous day. Unbeknownst to me she is just as rude. I tell her my story. Letting her know that I will be making a payment and that I just needed some time to handle some things. She's rude and tells me "well you received a service and you need to pay". I tell her that I am not, not trying to pay but that I need to make sure that I handle something and then I'll be ok. So I just need time. I think asked about their policy about not being turned away for services. Never mind you she's telling me that I'll just be going to collections. She tells me that the policy is true but very rudely say we'll you received a service so you need go pay. I told her well what if im unable to pay? I said you know people go through things, she tells me rudely that I paid for a service and I need to just pay. I tell her that she is not going to talk to me like that. She proceeds to try to talk over me. So I tell her again don't talk to me like that. She screams really loud in the phone and say oh Well, just pay your bill then. As to not lose my cool I hang up the phone. I cancel services until further notice. Not to mention I reach out to the director letting her know my concerns. Let's just say it's been at least two going on three weeks without so much as a phone call. Not to mention shes very well aware of my phone call. As someone who has been going to this clinic for over 2 years, I am very appalled by this treatment seriously. As much growth I've made over this time I don't think I'd be back. This situation truly left a nasty taste in my mouth. You guys really need to think more about the people that you have handling people. Especially those trying to figure life out. They need help not to be scolded like a child. They can keep that for their own children.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Due to HIPAA, I can only provide a limited response. Thank you for complimenting one of our support staff and one of our therapists. They are indeed commendable and merit a positive mention. As to Kathy, she is not a director, but is in our billing department. So is Michelle. So, it's no wonder they focus on a bill. Though we do want all of our staff to be consumer-focused. I am the President of the company and welcome feedback that we can use for improving our customer service. If you want to spell out the subjects in your review further, email me at drosenberg@shorehavenbhi.com
This is troubling for us. I am the owner of the company and I have not had any interactions at our offices the past several weeks other than with my staff. So, I would like to know more about this complaint and see what we can do to improve. You can email me at drosenberg@shorehavenbhi.com. Our goal is to investigate and resolve concerns rapidly.
This place was great a few years back however my grandson attended with great therapist at that time I just recently reached out at this clinic for my grandson and the therapist was great at that time we met with him but do to transportation issues.. I wasn’t able to keep schedule appointments I was unaware of the policy of two missed appointments they discharge you however I feel the therapist that my grandson was very very unconcerned of the reason for missed appointments and I felt when I spoke to him concerning upcoming appointments he was very rude and dismissive and unconcerned so far as I’m concerned I will never return here not professional!!!!!!

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
We are always extremely concerned about any lapses in our services. Due to HIPAA, we cannot given a specific reply in a public forum.
