Accepted Insurance

South Nassau Communities Hospital – Inpatient works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I know this hospital very well. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. They are doing renovations on the outside but the changes need to made on the inside. I could list all of the negative experiences I’ve had with this hospital, however , I’ll just talk about the one I had yesterday. I was going to visit my father in law who was in the critical care unit. When I went to the front desk to inquire about visiting him, the woman looked at me with disgust and said “you can’t bring your child with u”. I explained that she has special needs and she made yet another face that implied that she thought I was stupid and lesser than her. It’s bad enough that I have to worry about my father in law but to be treated this way was beyond unprofessional. I understand there are policies but u don’t need to make someone feel inadequate EVER. Go to any other hospital!

Unbelievable experience here. I arrived 2pm I'm aware it is an emergency room and everyone is here for different reasons but they need to put some urgency towards how they operate their services. I do not like the triage and there is no privacy, the lady didn't even bother closing the sliding door to do my intake, I am overhearing the next patient explain their situation to the triage team and that is unacceptable, I feel like that is a violation of both our privacies. Moving forward, the wait was unbearable. Lots of back and forth to the same room for the same question, the lady doing my work up barely explained to me what was going on, these nurses also have attitudes..if you do not love what you do do not work at a hospital where people are trusting you to provide excellent service. Last from me being in the waiting area 2-6 and then another 6-9 in the actual hospital bed for a quick 5 min procedure. Again I get it, maybe they are understaff and for things to be quick and efficient they do not have the since of urgency behind it. My procedure was done at 843 yet I am still here writing this review because somehow the team did not prepare my discharge papers before they all clocked out for the night, so now I am here another 30-1hr just for discharge papers alone. Just because this hospital is in Oceanside doesn't mean anything, I forgot to mention the small parking lot for emergency, I couldn't even park my car. I'd take the drive to Long Island Jewish or anywhere else if it came down to it for real.

They upgraded the facility but forgot to upgrade the staff. Waited for more than thirty minutes and had to leave the emergency room due to their lack of regard for patients. I asked for AIR and was told no. That simple answer forced me to literally leave the ER and head to the VA that was 41 minutes away. IF YOU ARE A VETERAN, AVOID THIS SHINY NEW HELLSCAPE!

My wife is in for a colonoscopy today, she just texted me telling me the pt bathroom is filthy, not cleaned at all, is this because of budget cuts ? People going for a colonoscopy need to have a clean bathroom, especially since there are multiple people waiting for the same procedure and only 1 pt bathroom. This is how infections and germs are spread. Keep up the work of paying the big wigs, but cut the staff that actually runs , cleans and maintains the place and deals with patients on an everyday basis. Great job

Today, I had surgery at South Nassau Communities Hospital, and I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the entire team — from the parking staff and reception to the operating room and post-op care. Every single person I encountered was kind, welcoming, and a true professional. I was nervous going in, but the way everyone treated me lifted my spirits and gave me confidence. Special thanks to nurse Diana, who placed the IV painlessly and on the first try — something that rarely happens for me. I also want to mention nurse Kristina, who was incredibly warm and attentive. I might be mixing up names due to the stress and emotions of the day, and I may not remember everyone, but please know I am thankful to each and every person who helped and cared for me today. You are true professionals. A heartfelt thank you to my surgeon, Dr. Emil Gurshumov — a doctor with a capital “D” and a true master of his craft. I am so grateful I was in your hands — choosing you was absolutely the right decision. Thank you all again! Wishing you continued success, prosperity, and all the best!

I recently delivered my baby at this hospital and was surprised to find out they don’t have a nursery, especially given how large the facility is. As a mother recovering from delivery and completely exhausted, I asked if someone could take care of the baby for a little while so I could rest. Both times, a nurse came in saying she would feed and change the baby—and then never came back. It left me feeling overlooked and unsupported at a time when I genuinely needed help. I understand policies may differ, but the lack of follow-through was disappointing. Moms deserve real rest and support, especially in those first few overwhelming days.

I wanted to sincerely thank and give a shoutout to some of the hospital staff during my stay at labor and delivery and the maternity unit. First, Dr Rosner who took the time to ensure my entire team knew my birth plan and respected my wishes. He also sent the chief resident to take care of me and I had an excellent experience with her as well! Additionally, the PA and other resident I saw assisted my OB throughout the entire process and I received excellent care from them. Emily the nurse at labor and delivery was also amazing and so were all the other nurses! Overall, the care I received was excellent from everyone who was there and even though my birth plan was not able to be followed due to labor complications, I appreciated the efforts from the team to respect it and not pressure me. On the maternity side, I had a great experience with the lactation consultants Nicole and Thai as well as nurse Mary who was truly phenomenal! Overall, I recommend this hospital for all maternity services including birth classes I took with Debi Tracy

I had my daughter here and I didn’t have a great experience, the nurses there, they seem a little nonchalant, they don’t have a sense urgency when it comes to you. You are kinda left on your own most of the time, and goodness if you ask someone a simple question, they seem as if you are asking too much. Never again
