About Vista del Mar Hospital

This program is available to adult clients and takes place in a community setting. During this phase of treatment, clients are cared for 24 hours a day by medical staff as they withdraw from drugs and alcohol.

This facility has separate adolescent and adult inpatient programs. Inpatient care takes clients out of potentially distracting environments and has them reside on campus, where they can be cared for by staff. Treatment plans are individualized and may include individual, group, and family therapy. Clients also participate in education groups, life skills building, medication management, expressive therapies, physical recreation, and socialization programs.

Their partial hospitalization program (PHP) meets Monday through Friday for two to four weeks. This intensive day program for adult clients emphasizes group and family therapy.

The intensive outpatient program (IOP) is designed for clients transitioning out of a higher level of care. This day program has three sessions a week with a heavy focus on symptom management.

Dual diagnosis care is designed for clients living with both addiction and a mental health diagnosis. This form of treatment addresses both diagnoses to lower the risk of relapse. Dual diagnosis treatment at this facility incorporates the 12 Step model.

Vista Del Mar Hospital works with many major insurance plans, including Aetna, Compcare, Healthsmart, Value Options, and Multiplan. Clients should confirm coverage with their plan before enrolling in a treatment plan, as out-of-network benefits may vary.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Commonly known as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is an intensive form of outpatient treatment where clients meet during the day and return home in the evening. PHP treatment doesn't require 24-hour care and often serves as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a step-down after a residential program. With PHP treatment, you can receive daily support for 6 to 8 hours which includes evidence-based therapies and medication management. The cost of PHP treatment typically varies but averages 90 days.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

I had a negative experience at Vista del Mar. I was brought in over a minor issue, but while there, I felt uncomfortable due to the behavior of other patients and a lack of staff intervention. I experienced verbal and physical mistreatment and didn't feel supported when I reached out for help. The restrooms lacked privacy, and some staff appeared disengaged or unprofessional. While the facility may follow certain policies, I personally found the environment lacking in care and safety.

First and foremost, I am a Case Manager who oversees a Mental Health Living Program in Camarillo, California. One of my clients/residents ended up at this Vista Del Mar location, and the communication level there is just so unprofessional. Initially, it took me quite a while before I was even able to speak with someone regarding my clients status, and when I was finally able to speak with a Case Manager there, she provided me with a bunch of information pertaining to my client. Information regarding incidents that occurred involving him and other patients there, and this was without her ever having him sign a Release of Information document granting her permission to speak with me. After that occurred, she wouldn't return any of my calls, so I ended up driving all the way out there to see my client and speak with staff in hopes of getting a status upset. They refused to allow me to see my client and told me to come back during normal visiting hours between 6 pm and 7 pm. I then asked to speak to an administrative staff member. To make a long story short, they finally put him on the phone with me and I asked him to let them know that he wanted a Release of Information form on file so they can speak with me, and even then they provided me with minimal information and seemed very reluctant to disclose the necessary information that I needed for documentation purposes. This location deserves zero stars in my book. Let's get it together, Vista Del Mar! Your patients, their family members, and staff of outside organizations deserve much better treatment. Thank you.

Stay away from this place. I was experiencing postpartum depression in the beginning of this year and checked myself in, worst experience of my life. Staff is young, under qualified, and insensitive. Stay here if you want to be taunted by staff and send you into a full psychosis. I would never recommend this place to anyone, you’re better off dealing on your own. I had to threaten to sue them multiple times for them to call an ambulance for me due to a bowel obstruction from the medication they were giving me. Why would they give a breastfeeding mom who’s 5 months postpartum 4 different antipsychotics? You tell me. They want to keep patients sedated. They need to hire qualified staff who are experienced and have sympathy towards patients. I will say the only staff to be truly caring and professional was a nurse named Arnold and another named Ana. I’m still recovering from this traumatic stay.
