About Waves of Hope Eating Disorder Care Center: Eating Disorder Treatment In Florida

The Waves of Hope Eating Disorder Care Center in Jacksonville, Florida, is an inclusive eating disorder treatment center for people of all ages. While not dedicated to addiction treatment and recovery, they do treat co-occurring disorders like substance abuse and other behavioral health concerns. They’ll make a referral to a more specialized program in the case that they aren’t the right fit for you.

Their approach to treatment is therapeutic and trauma focused. Their multidisciplinary team utilizes multiple methods to fit different needs, allowing for greater personalization in care. They accept most insurance plans.

Nutritional Support

Not surprisingly, a center specializing in treating eating disorders has a focus on ensuring you eat right. What you might find surprising, however, is that this nutritional balance can be beneficial for overcoming substance abuse, too.

The harm that illicit substances cause your body is far reaching, affecting things like normal bodily functions and even how you absorb nutrients. By eating a healthy and balanced diet, you can help your body to repair this harm.

Creative Expression

The multidisciplinary staff at this location utilizes art and music therapy alongside traditional talk therapy options. Creative therapies like these provide an outlet, which lets you express yourself and explore your thoughts in new ways. It’s a different way to engage your brain and occupy yourself with a new, positive activity.

A Therapeutic Location

Jacksonville is a nature lover’s paradise.. The surrounding beaches make for a great day out after a tough treatment session, or you could spend some time in Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park and enjoy the progress you’ve made. It’s a free and simple way to boost your mood and support your life in sobriety.

Last Summer we went to Waves of Hope to seek a diagnosis and treatment for my loved one, because I was CERTAIN that there was an extreme problem and they remained in denial. Waves of Hope provided an extensive screening and spent a lot of time with us, and it didn’t cost us a dime. Even after Waves of Hope determined my loved one was too sick (at very high risk of refeeding syndrome) to meet their level of care, they continued to help us pro bono to research treatment programs and find them the help they needed. Ultimately my loved one signed up for a virtual IOP program that they have been in over a year now, and they are going to discharge from it soon.Facebook memories showed me a photo from a year ago that made me cry, the progress they have made it just remarkable. I’ll always be grateful to Waves of Hope for helping us start the road to recovery

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) involve frequent and robust therapeutic sessions for clients requiring high-level care. Clients may engage in a combination of medication assisted treatment (MAT), addiction counseling, recovery skills training, and holistic therapies for a minimum of nine and a maximum of 20 hours per week. Intensive outpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery, those exiting detox or inpatient care, and those at an elevated relapse risk.

Often referred to as "day treatment," a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers an intensive treatment option that allows individuals to return home at night. PHP treatment typically requires a minimum of 20 hours a week for an average of 90 days. Participants attend daily therapeutic sessions, receive medication management, and have access to skilled medical professionals. While costs can vary, most insurance will fully or partially cover a partial hospitalization program.

Clinical Services

Therapists who apply cognitive behavioral therapy in Florida believe patient thoughts and behaviors are closely linked. They use this treatment method to help clients change their thought patterns so they can also change behaviors and break free from substance abuse.

During family therapy sessions, you navigate the complexities of addiction and are provided tools to help improve communication and resolve conflicts. When you work together, families can better support their loved one's recovery and restore balance and harmony within the household.

Group therapy provides a safe and supportive environment for people in Florida who are struggling with drug addiction. There you can openly discuss the challenges and progress you're making without fear of judgment from your peers who experience many of the same things you are.

Individual therapy often includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This is a structured approach to identifying and changing negative thought patterns. During therapy you learn how what you think drives your actions so you can develop healthier coping strategies to manage addiction triggers and reduce drug use.

If I could give the people I interacted with a negative 5, I would. I have ARFID due to having a true, physical medical issue called gastroparesis, so I can't eat. I asked the gentleman if there were programs for people like me who don't have body image issues, but just anxiety because I physically get ill when I eat. I told him that I was sorry, but group therapy for people with anorexia or bulimia would not be beneficial for me as there is an issue I have with them. I tried explaining that it's apples to oranges and that I want to gain weight, but I'm physically disabled and can't eat while anorexic and bulimic people willfully starve themselves and it quite frankly irritates me that people would throw away that normal capability. He got extremely rude and said I needed compassion for those people, but I asked.. "Where is the compassion for me?" You're wanting to stick someone who wants to gain weight with gastroparesis with people who intentionally choose to engage with an eating disorder. He said I needed to open my heart more to them, but maybe y'all should offer programs for people that don't need or even want to be in group therapy with people they can't relate to. I have a physical disability and limitation, so I couldn't relate or understand. He was so rude and condescending. I'm sorry people with GI problems don't deserve compassion either.
