About WestCare – Cobb County Drug Court

WestCare Cobb County Drug Court in Marietta, Georgia, serves high-risk, high-need individuals through focused supervision and substance use disorder (SUD) treatments. Their program consists of five phases of care that last about 18 to 24 months. We like that there are no fees during the first 90 days.

Another thing we like about this program is its ideal location. Lauren Park has hosted events like the Successfully Sober Summer BBQ, to support recovering individuals through fun social activities. Marietta Square has shops, restaurants and cultural events.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park has hiking and historical exhibits. We feel that doing activities and outings like these while in the area, can enhance your treatment as part of your self-care routine.

A Structured Program

The duration of the program is 18 to 24 months in a set up of five phases. Phase 1 and 2 is a minimum of 12 weeks, phase 3 is a minimum of 20 weeks, phase 4 is a minimum of 12 weeks and phase 5 is a minimum of 22 weeks.

The treatment in these phases includes judicial oversight, random drug screens and comprehensive SUD treatments. You’ll be assisted with stable, sober housing. What strikes us the most about all of the structure of these interventions is WestCare’s sincere aim to reduce recidivism and enable you to contribute again to your community through a new path of independence and healing.

Experiences from Past Graduates of WestCare

Past graduates have expressed a lot of gratitude for the program’s impact on their life. One person said that the program had been a major help, changing their life just in time. They expressed that the tools they learned will be tools they can use for the rest of their life.

Corrupt system of government. The law is not respected nor followed by the people, who are in place to uphold the integrity of the law. It amazes me how we're supposed to believe, that when you walk into a courtroom, the law will be enforced. All I have witnessed was nothing but a (rehearsed) courtroom procedure of judicial process that involves the court personnel. It begins with the CLERKS office, the supervisor, Samantha Lincoln, the Clerk of the Court in the Small Claims Division, Anne Gordon and a structured process in Small Claims that is defective. A defendant and their Lawyers may commit perjury and fraud in a case, and the court will delay and delay your case. I had to call numerous times to get a court date. But the lawyer for the defendant is not required to call, instead, they will call him and let him know when a court date is and if he's not happy with that all he has to do is have it continued by filing a motion. The judge will not review your case which is a right you deserve and worse, not have your complaint in the case file. In my case, my complaint was NOT in the court file and I had to provide the judge with my original, copy of the complaint that was not returned to me. My journey began In August 2025 when I filed my complaint. Going to court twice. One TIME the lawyer did not appear, October 27, 2025. When he finally appeared, December 10, 2025, it was if he and the judge had coffee, if you know what I mean. (He requested a continuance days before the hearing date to the afternoon docket CLEARLY, Judge shopping) the clerks advocated for this lawyer's manipulative demand. Then, he and his client commit perjury and my case was dismissed. 24 hours later, I file a motion and provided evidence to prove they willfully committed perjury, and my case SAT and SAT until December 31, 2025, to be later scheduled to have my motion heard not until February 4, 2026. The corrupt system of government is clearly incompetent. I HAVE NO RESPECT NOR FAITH) WITH JUDGES, LAWYERS, AND THE COURT CLERKS ESPECIALLY, IN THE COBB COUNTY SMALL CLAIMS DIVISION. THE LAW AND THE BLACK ROBE IS NOTHING MORE THAN AN IMAGE OF AMERICAN JURISPRUDENCE, NOT ENFORCEMENT OF THE LAW. 25-J-12104

My experience with the magistrate representatives at the desk was absolutely horrible. I was sent from one desk to another as if no one knew what they were doing or who was actually responsible for helping me. There was no clear direction, no communication, and no sense of urgency. All I needed was a simple document printed, something that should have taken just a few minutes. Instead, it turned into a frustrating back-and-forth between staff members who seemed confused about basic procedures. If this is how they handle a straightforward request, I can only imagine how someone with a serious or urgent matter would be treated. Overall, the lack of organization and professionalism made what should have been a quick visit unnecessarily stressful and disappointing.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
